This year, the ozone hole over Antarctica reminds us of what could have been.

In 1987, the world's nations agreed to the Montreal Protocol, banning the use of chemicals that destroy ozone.

The ozone layer began to recover.

The ozone hole reaches an annual maximum size at the end of each southern winter.

In recent years, these maximums have been getting slightly smaller.

The ozone hole fluctuates with temperature – chemical destruction of ozone is enhanced when it's colder.

This year, the South Pole region was relatively cold, so the hole grew larger than in the previous two years.

Scientists were able to compare this year's ozone layer to models of what the ozone layer might have looked like without the Montreal Protocol.

In spite of the colder temperatures, the ozone hole was still much smaller

than it would have been, evidence of ongoing scientific success.

Did you spot who was at Real Madrid training today? Old face returns to Bernabeu - Duration: 2:55.

Former Castilla manager Santiago Solari was handed the reigns by club president Florentino Perez on a temporary basis

Today, Solari, who played for Madrid for five years, took charge of first-team training for the first time

Madrid are expected to wait until the end of the season before appointing a permanent boss, with Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho on their shortlist

In Solari's first training session, there was another familiar face for the squad, as former fitness coach Antonio Pintus was back

Pintus worked as the fitness coach whilst Zinedine Zidane was manager, and was a popular figure amongst the squad

After Zidane left the club at the end of last season, Pintus went with him, and little was heard from him afterwards

His replacement, Oscar Caro, was unpopular with the squad and fans after the team's poor fitness levels were highlighted in a disastrous run of results

Caro left when Lopetegui was sacked by the club. Pintus was joined by Santiago Sanchez, who was Solari's assistant at Castilla

He will take up the same role with the first team as long as Solari is at the club

Solari has a tough job on his hands, as Madrid look to recover from their 5-1 embarrassment at the hands of Barcelona in El Clasico on Sunday

Madrid find themselves ninth in La Liga, seven points behind leaders Barcelona. Without a win in their last five league matches, and after suffering an embarrassing defeat to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, Madrid have it all to do in order to save their season

During their first training session with Solari, it was apparent that their fitness would be a priority

Pintus ensured the team were put through their paces at high intensity during the first 15 minutes of the session

Madrid take on Melilla tomorrow night in the Copa del Rey round of 32 first leg.

Einstein Was Here - Mount Wilson Observatory - Duration: 4:37.

Welcome to Mount Wilson Observatory. We're here above Los Angeles at 5700ft

above sea level. Come on follow me.

This is the famous Einstein bridge. In 1931, Einstein visited Mount Wilson

Observatory, so I'm now standing in the footsteps of Einstein. The only

difference is actually had a little more hair than I did.

This is it. The famous 100-inch telescope. This is being supported by

tubs of liquid mercury. This platform can ride up and down and then left to right

so as you aim the telescope in awkward positions and you needed to reach where

the eyepiece was you would just take that platform and ride that along.

Because it would be difficult to continue using that platform up there

for public use we now have this light tube. We're sending the light from the

hundred inch telescope into this smaller telescope here, so in essence

we're using a telescope to look through a telescope. We have so many discoveries

with this telescope that we would basically be here all night talking

about all of them, so I just want to mention one of the most famous ones

which is the fact that we discovered that Andromeda was its own galaxy.

As Hubble imaged this galaxy which, he did know there was its own galaxy, he was

marking all the Nova that he was discovering and when he marked this one

he later realized: that's not a nova. So he crossed out the Nova marking and wrote

variable or VAR, because now that he knows that that's a variable star he can

finally get the distance to this object. And in gaining the distance we proved

that this is a galaxy outside our own. The reason why Einstein came here in 1931

was because this telescope discovered the expansion of the universe.

Einstein felt that that was his biggest blunder that he did not account for the

expansion of the universe, so when we finally discovered that with this

magnificent telescope he felt compelled to visit the telescope and he felt

compelled to meet the astronomers who made that discovery. That's why Einstein came here.

Watch your step, we're about 50 feet up on this catwalk.

Every time I'm up here, it always feels like the sunset is different.

Today we're actually seeing a little bit of the effect from the nearby wildfires.

This telescope now is a hundred years old. The 60 inch is a hundred and ten

years old, so there is that connection of how they operated telescopes back then

and what they must have thought when they saw it because when I look at

objects even to this day, I'm still amazed. First time I saw Saturn I

actually cried. And I'm not the only one that has those feelings we often get

people that come up here and just break down because it's so beautiful.

It's breathtaking. It's something that you just just stare at for hours and hours.

By the way we just have a few more minutes to enjoy this we're watching the

Earth cast the shadow into space right there. And it's the last little bits of

light bend over the horizon, we get this beautiful pinkish glow off in the

opposite side of the setting Sun. This is our own shadow

and it's beautiful! Just when you thought it couldn't get any prettier

check out the rising moon.

Tomi Lahren's Kathy Griffin Costume Was So Great Real Griffin Freaked Out on Her - Duration: 2:25.

One of the best Halloween costumes this year came from Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren

— who dressed up as anti-Trump comedian Kathy Griffin.

Griffin came under fire from both Republicans and Democrats last year for holding up a bloody,

decapitated mannequin's head resembling President Donald Trump in a picture she posted

on social media.

Since then, Griffin has made the news for several other stunts and outrageous political

statements, but nobody has forgotten about her awful photo with the decapitated head.

The huge controversy that surrounded the photo as well as its political relevance made Griffin

the perfect subject for Lahren's Halloween costume this year.

"Happy Halloween from all of us infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome!"

Lahren said on Instagram with her reenactment of the Griffin photo.

Griffin, who is likely desperate to move past the controversy, went ballistic on Twitter.

"Gosh you are just so original (Tomi Lahren)!

I thought images like this one incite violence!

At least that's what you and your colleagues at (Fox News) have told me for the past year

and a half.

I'm busy on tour right now or I'd dress up as you: a dumb, racist, and talentless

hack," Griffin said.

This seems like a hastily written tweet by someone who is freaking out.

But Griffin looked over one important detail.

Lahren's costume couldn't be considered "inciting violence" like Griffin's because

Lahren's photo used a clown mask in place of the decapitated, bloody, effegial head

seen in Griffin's original photo.

In addition, making false accusations of "racism" is such a boring, overused left-wing response.

Based on Griffin's response, you can tell she was bothered by Lahren's costume.

She should have taken a deep breath instead of responding.

Of course, Lahren shot back with a clever response.

"You're right Kathy, if I was trying to impersonate you I should have worn the clown

mask instead.

That's my bad!

Happy Halloween!"

Lahren wrote..

Lahren's Halloween costume has to be one of the best costumes this year simply because

of Griffin's reaction.

Muhammad was an illiterate man - Session 270 - Quran - The Cow - Verse 252 - Duration: 9:22.

Session 270 Chapter 2

Verse 252 These are the revelations of God which We

recite to you with the truth, and you indeed are one of the messengers.

(Chapter 2: Verse 252) Allah –the All-Merciful- addresses Prophet

Muhammad, peace be upon him.

The words: 'these are' are referring to the preceding verses that highlighted God's

power and majesty.

God says earlier in the chapter: Didn't you see those who abandoned their

homes, though they were in the thousands, for fear of death?

Allah said to them: "Die."

Then He restored them to life.

Truly, God shows real favor to people, but most of them are ungrateful.

(02:243) Allah controls life and death, and that is

a sign of His power and majesty.

When the Israelites asked for a leader to fight with, God appointed for them a king

and sent with him the lost chest containing the relics of Moses and Aaron.

Were these not great signs of God?

Allah gave David –a young man- the power to kill the great warrior Goliath.

Isn't that another sign of God's majesty?

Moreover, with God's help, a group of few believing men who were ill-equipped and exhausted

won a battle over a much larger and far superior enemy.

Isn't that another great sign of God's power?

God says: 'How many a small force has triumphed over a much greater one by God's permission!

God is with the steadfast.'

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was not aware of any of these stories before.

He was an illiterate man, a fact well known to everyone, especially his disbelieving enemies.

They knew him since he was a young boy.

He never sat down to learn from a teacher or a friend.

No one took the time to teach him history.

Even on his trading trips, where he was accompanied by many merchants, he never sat down to learn.

Had any man of Quraysh saw him learn or sit with a teacher, he would have loudly announced

it to others to discredit the prophet.

But isn't illiteracy a shame, you may ask?

We answer that yes, for you and me illiteracy is an embarrassment.

But for our beloved prophet Muhammad, it was an honor.

Why?

Because it was a sign that all the knowledge that he brought us, all the revelations of

the Quran and the wisdom he speaks are taught to him directly by God.

He was not taught by any great teacher; he did not sit down with any philosopher of the

east or west.

He, peace be upon him, could not even read a book.

So everything he brought to us is from God alone.

Listen to the very first verses revealed from the Quran to Prophet Muhammad:

Read!

In the name of your Lord who created: He created man from a clinging clot.

Read!

Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One.

Who taught by the pen, who taught man what he did not know.

(96:1-5) Likewise, when it came to the Israelites,

God informed our beloved prophet of their stories.

If Muhammad had learned from a teacher, people would have used that against him.

Thus, every fact and every story the Prophet brought us is, in of itself, a miracle.

Some of the enemies of the prophet conspired to make up a story that he used to sit down

with a teacher in the town of al-Marwa to learn.

God revealed the following verse to prove their fabrications.

He says: We know very well that they say, 'It is

a man who teaches him,' but the language of the person they allude to is foreign, while

this revelation is in a clear Arabic tongue.

(16:103) The Almighty answered that the man they claimed

to have taught Muhammad was not even an Arab.

God says: 'These are the revelations of God which We recite to you with the truth,

and you indeed are one of the messengers.'

(2:252) "We recite to you" means we teach you word after word; and 'the truth' refers

to facts that took place and would not ever change.

Suppose a car accident occurred right in front of you.

No matter how many times you are asked about the accident, your answer would be the same

because you are telling the truth.

But if the accident was a lie, or if the accident was something you heard about but did not

witness, then your story would change with time.

You would forget the details you told a month ago.

When you tell the story the third time, it would be different again.

Isn't that the same technique investigators use to catch crooks and criminals?

They ask a suspect on several occasions about the details of a crime or event.

A person with an ever-changing story is a liar.

The truth never changes.

God says: 'These are the revelations of God which We recite to you with the truth.'

Allah is the one who is narrating the verses.

Thus, they are the ultimate truth.

God says: This is an account of things beyond your knowledge

that We reveal to you: you were not present among them when they drew lots to see which

of them should take care of Mary, you were not present with them when they argued.

(28:44) And in another chapter

Accordingly, We have revealed a spirit to you by Our command: you knew neither the Scripture

nor the faith, but We made it a light, guiding with it whoever We will of Our servants.

You give guidance to the straight path (42:52) The Quran is God's revelation and the light

that guides the believers to their Lord.

Our beloved prophet Muhammad calls to the straight path.

Every event in the Quran that starts with "you were not present" is a reminder that

whatever is revealed to you is from God through the angel Gabriel.

We teach you O Muhammad in the most exceptional way, even though you did not ever read a book

or learn from a teacher.

And when your enemies hear a story that matches what they already know –and hide in their

books-, they realize that the one who taught you is God Almighty.

The words of the Quran are primarily divided by chapter (sura) and verse (aya).

The chapters vary in length and are generally arranged from longest to shortest.

To make the reading process easy, the Quran is additionally divided into 30 equal sections;

each called a Juz.

These divisions make it easier for you to pace the reading of the entire Quran over

a one month period: reading a fairly equal amount of one Juz each day.

It is particularly helpful during the month of Ramadan when it is recommended to complete

one full reading of the Quran from cover to cover.

Verse 252 of 'The Cow' marks the end of the second Juz of the Nobel Quran.

For all of you who have been with Quran Garden from the beginning, we want to say: Thank

you.

God willing we will continue our journey through the Quran together.

What If Ghostface Was Real? - Duration: 4:53.

Ghostface is the masked killer from the horror franchise Scream.

Ghostface first appeared in the film in 1996.

The mask was a disguise used by local Woodsbro teens Billy Loomis and Stu Macher that allowed

them to go on a killing spree.

The mask is used to conceal the identity of two different murderers.

But seeing as how the costume is really common, and is worn by people who aren't the killer,

it's difficult to tell who's the murderer and who's simply wearing a costume.

But what if ghostface was a real killer in this day and age?

That's the question we're asking right now on life's biggest questions.

Hello and welcome to a life's biggest questions, I'm charlotte dobre.

actually want to hear about.

Ghostface is one of the most iconic masked murderers in the history of horror cinema.

The plot twist was there was actually two killers instead of one, both using the mask

to conceal their identity.

But did you know that Scream was actually inspired by a true story?

I thought it would be appropriate to tell you about since we are discussing what would

happen if Ghostface was real.

In Gainesville Florida, during august of 1990, someone was going around mutilating and murdering

women.

The first to die were Sonja Larson and Christine powell.

Roommates.

The next was Christina hoyt.

Then it was another pair of roommates, Tracy Paules ad Manny Toboada.

All the victims were killed in their apartments.

Christina Hoyt was found popped up on a bed and bent over at the waist, and whoever was

responsible sliced off her nipples and placed her severed head on a shelf.

All the victims were killed with a knife, four of them were killed at the university

of florida.

Whoever did it wanted to terrify anyone who found the bodies, the killer would place them

in sexually provocative positions.

While this was going on, a student at the u of florida, told the Associated press that

everyone slept with their knives nearby.

AT the time, there were no cell phones, no surveillance cameras, so it was that much

harder to find the killer.

Screenwriter Kevin Williamson turned on the television when he was housesitting and he

came across a special on the Gainesville murders.

It scared him so much that he started fantasizing about a knife wielding killer that was waiting

for him outside the house he was watching.

The Gainesville mutilations eventually inspired Williamson to write scream, which was a huge

success at the box office.

The original film made 80 million initially and has now grossed well over 175 million.

The Gainsville slasher turned out to be a man called Danny Rolling.

He didn't wear a mask, but he was very disturbed.

Rolling confessed to raping several of his victims, and he attempted to kill his own

father in May of 1990.

In total, Rolling killed 8 people, plead guilty, and was sentenced to death by lethal injection.

He claimed his motive was to become a superstar, similar to serial killer ted budy.

So, first things first if ghostface was real, and it really was two killers, they would

have a lot harder of a time committing the murders in this day and age and not getting

caught early on.

Scream was released in 1996, the gainsville murders took place in 1990, this was way before

the technological society we live in today.

If there was any word about a killer on the loose, it would be all over social media.

There would be trending hashtags and widespread panic.

Remember how the ghostface character would call landlines?

Well definitely not in 2018.

Pretty much everyone has cellphones now.

And What about caller ID and voicemails?

Victims didn't have to answer the phone.

And by the way, have you ever noticed how long drew Barrymore talks on the phone with

the killer?

Dude.

Hang up and call the cops.

Yeah there's no way that would happen in real life.

Many households are also equipped with alarm systems and panic buttons.

You hit one of those buttons if you're even a little worried, and the authorities are

at your house within a couple of minutes.

And these days, the ghostface costume is not as common as it was in the 90s.

Yes it is one of the most popular costumes of all time, but its somewhat dated in this

day and age.

If there really was a masked killer running around wearing a ghostface mask, there wouldn't

be as many people wearing the costume, and the killer would be far easier to catch.

There are surveillance cameras everywhere, especially when it comes to university campuses,

where the killer who inspired the Scream movie targeted most of his victims.

School shootings have resulted in campuses becoming a lot better about security.

Whenever there's a security risk, people aren't running around attending parties

like they are in the film scream.

Campuses are on lockdown, students barricade themselves into classrooms and dorm rooms,

and campuses are even evacuated if there are potential threats.

And lets not forget that ghostface wielded a knife.

Many american's own guns in their households.

Eventually the protagonists in the film scream eventually used a gun, but that happened at

the end of the movie.

The first thing most people would do if there really were a killer on the loose is get a

gun and keep it on them at all times.

Sure, a couple of guys running around in a mask might be able to kill a couple of victims,

but a massacre wouldn't happen to the extent that it happened in Scream.

Well there you have it, these are just a few examples of what would happen if Ghostface

was real.

Did we miss anything?

Let us know in those comments.

Paul Dano Was Afraid Zoe Kazan Would Be Eaten by a Bear - Duration: 4:47.

-Congratulations on the film. -Thank you.

-I know it's your directorial debut, also, your writing debut.

You co-wrote it with it your wife, Zoe Kazan.

-Mm-hmm.

-And I'm always fascinated by the process of people

who collaborate on writing.

As a married couple, how did you figure out?

Were you sitting in a room together

at the same time working on it?

-No. So, I think most people imagine, right,

somebody standing and pacing behind the computer.

The other person's typing away and you're just having an --

that, I mean, simply would not work in a --

when we live together and go to bed together

and wake up together.

We actually discovered a super natural work flow

which I hope we get to do again someday,

which is we simply traded drafts back and forth.

So I would take it away for a while.

We'd go over it.

We'd be each other's editor in a way.

And then she would take it.

And it was really actually fun.

-Did you ever have to watch the other person read the draft?

Because that would be very stressful.

-Yeah, but I learned my lesson the first draft I wrote.

-Uh-huh.

-I waited for her to read it.

It was an eternity.

And she had a lot of notes.

[ Laughter ]

-So, Carey Mulligan, who's one of the stars

and is fantastic in it.

You sent it to her.

She did not wait a long time to read it.

-No, probably the fastest read I'll ever have.

I mean, luckily I know Carey, so I could call her.

I said, "Hey, I'm gonna send you the script tonight."

And the next morning she called

and she was all in from the get-go.

And she is a really great actor.

So to have somebody like that respond that immediately

to the character, to the script, was just a great burst of energy

and was such an important step in the process.

-Yeah, because nothing is worse than when you give somebody

something to read,

if each day that passes you just, in your head,

think that they're coming up with a way to phrase

how little they liked it.

-Totally. [ Laughter ]

-Yeah. -Well, also being friends.

You know, when we have to let somebody down, it's the worst.

You know she'd be pacing around her room.

"Oh, I got to go call Paul and let go of this somehow."

And so, yeah.

-You shot in Oklahoma and Montana.

It's a beautiful film.

I know you and Zoe went out to the Northwest.

Did you drive out there?

-So we did -- The family in the film moves from Lewiston, Idaho,

to Great Falls, Montana.

So we thought, "Let's go do the road trip that the family does."

A beautiful part of the country.

So we took, like, a little vacay writing trip,

stayed in bed and breakfasts.

So, Zoe wanted to go on a hike one day out to this waterfall

we heard about. -Are you hiking people?

-No. -Okay.

-We live in Manhattan. [ Laughter ]

-You live in Manhattan. Yeah, that's not --

-We're city dwellers. -Yes, okay, gotcha.

-And it's, like, bear season, apparently.

It's like end of August, early September.

-Yeah, that would be something I wouldn't know.

I would have to be told. Yeah.

-No, we were told this. -Okay, gotcha.

-But the bears are apparently, like, storing up for the winter.

So they're hungry. They know what's coming.

So I asked the woman at the bed and breakfast,

"Hey, we're gonna for this hike. You know, the bears?"

And she happened to be a woman

who worked at the San Diego Zoo for, like, 30 years.

She said, "Well, you don't want to run into a bear

because they pin you down and peel you like a banana."

-Uh-huh. [ Laughter ]

-She was like, "If you're gonna run into something, you know,

a lion is better because they go straight for your throat."

[ Laughter ]

I was like, "Thanks." [ Laughter ]

-Yeah, this seems wildly unhelpful. Yeah.

-So, I said to Zoe, I was like, "Let's go to, like,

the mountaineering store, the trail store."

See, I don't even know what to call the store one goes to,

to like, buy, you know, hiking apparel.

-Both of those sounded pretty good. Yeah.

-And I said, "Let's go talk to them."

And I said, "Hey, the bears." You know.

"You know, do I worry about this?"

And they said, "No, you know, like, don't shower --

I mean, don't shampoo, condition,

don't wear deodorant, you know.

And if you're on your womanly times, you know,

they can smell that."

And I looked at Zoe, and that morning she had taken a bath,

shampoo, conditioner, deodorant.

[ Laughter ]

She had put on sun screen on every inch of her body.

And she was on her period.

-There you go. [ Laughter ]

That's the hat trick for bears right there.

[ Laughter ]

-You know, it was like a cartoon

when my wife turned into this little edible bear treat.

[ Laughter ]

You know, and they said,

"Just make a lot of noise as you walk."

So we started on our hike.

And so, she's having a great time bopping around the trails.

And I'm just seeing her, like, this animated bear treat.

[ Laughter ]

And so every 5 to 10 seconds I was just shouting, "Yo, bear!"

[ Laughter ]

Just kind of letting them know I was here.

-That sounds like the least relaxing hike

that's ever been taken.

-I'm so embarrassed to say that I was terrified the whole time.

-Yeah, no. I think that is very accurate.

And I think you behaved the right way

and you both made it back.

And congratulations. You just had a baby girl.

So everything worked out great.
