So today we have a facelifted Hyundai Tucson with its new diesel engine option.
Let's see why Tucson is rival of Peugeot 3008,
Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Karoq
and Nissan Qashqai?
Differences are so scarce with pre-facelift Tucson.
That details includes new grille, new fog lamps,
fuel cap, and new stop lights -which makes Tucson's back similiar to i30-
Let's call the driver Şafak a pre-facelifted Tucson.
Therefore we can call the narrator Şafak a facelifted Tucson.
That's what is all about.
New Tucson is more whole and pretty.
We can call the Tucson's 513 L cargo hold
is on its segment standarts. But models like
Skoda Karoq or SEAT Ateca offers more space
despite their smaller sizes.
We have a baffleboard. I'm not good with that thing but it is great.
You can open and close like that.
You have a large, rectangle cargo hold.
That's great too but there is nothing more except you see.
For example, you think there is more space under that lid.
But it is a spare tire hold. It is not useful.
By the way there are two small holds on both sides.
You can stash small items in them. We have 6
hooks. And one holder to hang your stuff.
Also there is a 12 V socket in there.
You can use brooms... I mean hand brooms to
clean up your trunk. With that, there is nothing more to say.
By the way we have a electronic lid too.
That's great.
Let's not forget.. If you want to change your cargo capacity
just pull the levers positioned on the side of the seats.
And fold them. It's easy.
Then it becomes 1503 l.
Tucson's interior holds are mediocre.
There are some holders on the door panels but they are not so useful because of their size.
But it can hold 1.5 l bottles. There is 2 glass holders near
the gear. Also there is a hold which works as a wireless charging station.
There is a great holder under the armrest. Also Tucson has glovebox and glass holder.
Don't bother with the lid on the side of the steering. It is a fuse box.
At the back, there is no space apart from back of
the seats and door panels.
Tucson offers a great shoulder room.
Both seat and steering positioning are good. It offers a
great driving position. With its 2670 mm wheelbase
Tucson offered me and my 171 cm height
a great legroom. Also It is also good that there
are foot space. Backseats are low. Which means there are
more headspace that you can imagine. But, the door panels ar
e getting your point of view. That makes the back side a bit claustrophobic.
Shaft tunnels heights are normal. It didn't bothered me.
Also I think Tucson's back side can hold trio of me but I don't reccomend the mid sized
fellas to sit at the back.
There are Isofix points at the back. It is great
for the kids.
Tucson's interior is appealing.
Leather seats are comfortable. Hyundai used great materials and colours to spice it up.
Tucson's almost all of the ceiling works as a window.
So it makes the interior spacious. That's a plus.
However the material quality on the dashboard
,especially below that point, changes drastically. Let's call it 7 out of 10.
Also, don't forget to
hook up your seatbelt for your own safety.
Tucson Elite Plus has; long beam asistant,
blind spot detection, smart cruise control,
front, back and two side mirror cameras,
leather seats, LED lights,
19 inch wheels, hill descent asistant,
lane asistant, heated back and front seats,
heated steering and more.
Our infotainment system is located in this 8 inch screen.
System has a navigation, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity.
You can control the system by using the screen, using the physical buttons and the buttons on the steering.
It is very easy to use but I couldn't figure
out the navigation. Just use the Apple CarPlay connection. It solves the problem.
Also the connectivity is great.
The audio system is great which I think
it has at least 7 speakers.
It works and sounds great. System canalize the sound to the back
when you have a notification on your phone
or when you put the car in the rear gear. It is a great feature to have
but it suprised me for a second.
I think Tucson is useful on the city.
It has a great diesel, automatic gearbox combination
which allows Tucson to be a great off-roader.
But I think it is more reliable on the city. Hyundai also thinks that because they
designed it for the city. We have great security equipments.
Suspensions are soft.
Isolation is great too. Wind noise
don't bother until 120 km/h speed.
Road noise... check. But engine noise...
Let me say that; you can hear it above the 2000 rpm.
Also when you start the car, on the lower rpms,
It makes a growly sound.
Except that, Tucson is very comfortable.
Suspension.. Yeah you are great at your seat.
You can't feel what is going on on the outside at the normal speeds.
But, you can hear the working sound of back suspension,
on the big obstacles. Also I came across a
suspension problem at the back. However front suspension works well.
Let's talk about it's size. It is not the biggest SUV.
Also it is not the smaller. It's a compact one.
It has ideal proportions. You can use
it on the city. Also you can park it easy.
That's because of the one tiny security option:
360 degree camera. With that button
you can activate your cams. Right front wheel,
left front wheel, front and back cameras can be used on that screen.
Also you can use it on the move.
That helps you in the narrow streets.
But it works only below 15 km/h speed.
By the way, there is another thing which happens at the 15 km/h: automatic locks.
It is a "hard to see" feature on the South West cars.
Thanks Hyundai. While we mentioned about 360 degree cams, let me talk
about driving view. It is good actually.
Rear window is small but you can easily
see through that with your rear view mirror. Your rear view mirror also has
a compass on it. It's in English but it has that function.
I've never get along with compass'. However that'll be a great feature for you.
There is only one problem at the visual angle. And that is the
thick A-Pillar. But as I mentioned before, on the lower speeds
the 360 degree camera overcomes that problem.
On the higher speeds, that thick A-Pillar
won't bother you believe me.
We know it is good at the day by day drives but
what about if you are looking for performance?
How Tucson performs at high speeds?
Honestly, Tucson holds itself very great.
It is easy to control. I've never encountered that understeer
which all the other SUV models that I tested has.
Look at that, It holds its position.
It is reliable. I think its a great plus for Tucson.
But, If there is a road distortion
it will fidget. It shakes too much.
You feel that on the seat and say : "What is going on?"
It bothered me a little bit. If you are looking for performance...
I don't think Tucson has a exciting drive.
But it stays at the segment standarts.
It has a great driving dynamics for a SUV.
Steering wheel is soft on the lower speeds. It becames more stiff when the speed escalate.
Also you can see the outcome of your steering.
It is reliable as I mentioned before.
Gas pedal is mounted on the ground so it makes
easier to calibrate. But the weight of the Tucson
becomes a problem in the performance part.
I want it to push itself harder but
the weight is not letting that.
Tucson's weight is too much for this 136 HP engine.
That's why acceleration is not great.
Tucson's break pedal is interesting. I needed a time to get used to it.
Break performance is great. Even if you push a little bit
on the break, you feel the negative force.
You will get used to it believe me.
You will break hard on the first times but
when you get a hold on it, -you'll need a little bit time for that BTW-
then Tucson's break performance shows itself.
Even with its bulky and heavy stracture
it is easy to break. That's a plus too.
Let's talk about Tucson's security systems. My favorite part..
Let's call it a lane "centreing" asisstant.
Because Tucson can turn without interaction.
Your speed and the angle of the turn is matters though.
Don't forget that. But it tries to stay in the lane.
It doesn't move between the two lines.
That's great. However If you are trying a performance drive
or If yo do some imminent steering,
you should turn it off the system. Because it resists the input.
We have adaptive cruise control too.
Perfect. It breaks itself. That's what adaptive means.
It changes depending on the car above you.
With that system and steering asisstant, it becomes more comfortable.
Plus we have a blind spot detection system.
It works well on the narrow corners or on the traffic.
It is really helpful. It alerts you
when you are not be able to see that spots.
We hit 6.1 l/100 km fuel consumption on our
320 km route.
On the traffic simulation I performed
-it was not on rush hour - we saw 6.6 l/ 100 km.
Gas pedal is mounted to the ground. However because
of the inadequate acceleration
you tend to push hard. So what it does?
It increases the consumption.
With its 1.6 CRDi engine, HTRAC AWD system
and Elite Plus trim; Hyundai Tucson
can be bought at 259.600 TL. So it makes
Tucson affordable then Peugeot 3008. However Skoda Karoq
and SEAT Ateca is cheaper then Tucson.
I think Tucson's price levels are great but
the whole sector is becoming more expensive.
Doors are not long enough.
That's why watch out for mud when you are getting in or out of the car.
Tucson is heavy. That's why it can effect the fuel consumption.
Also sometimes it becomes more bulky.
Transmission works well with the engine. However
on the normal driving mode,
it couldn't reply your acceleration wish.
Also, side supports of the seats
are not working well especially on the performance
drives.
If you are looking for wide interior, lots of tech
on a C-SUV car, you should look up to the Tucson.
I think Tucson's handling is more reliable apart from its rivals.
Maybe you want to go for a drift after you drop your kids of the school.
