General Car Seat Guide | Which Car Seat Do I Use Next? - Duration: 9:56.

So we get a lot of questions about car seats, which one to use, and which one do I use next

and when?

So in this video we are going to show you a progression of car seats and when to switch

from one to the other.

Now the progression that I recommend to all parents is to start with an Infant Car Seat,

then move into a Convertible, and then A Combination High-back and 5 Point Harness and then to

finish off with a Combination High-Back, No-Back Booster.

Now there will be a lot of information in this video, but if you still have questions

please send those to us and you can do that by commenting below or send us an email at

hello@babycubby.com.

Please don't hesitate, this is the reason we do these videos is to help you get the

information that you need.

Now typically the first car seat that you're going to use with your child is going to be

an Infant Car Seat.

Now the biggest misconception is that you have to start with an Infant Car Seat.

You actually don't.

Most if not all Convertible Car Seats you can use to bring your child home from the

hospital.

Now you do need to make sure you have the correct infant inserts in order to do that,

some of them are included some of them you have to get them as an additional accessory.

But you can start with this and it's a little bit more budget friendly and you can skip

the Infant Car Seat all together.

However you're loosing out on the convenience of an infant seat.

Now an Infant Car Seat is designed with a base and so the base is what you're going

to install in your car so that you can easily click in and out your infant seat and that's

just in case your baby falls asleep in the car, then you can just click them out and

carry them with you and it's easy to install every time.

Now this is also convenient because you can take your infant seat and click it into a

stroller creating a travel system.

Now you can't do that with a Convertible Car Seat.

That one's just going to stay in your car and you'll take the infant in and out.

Most, I want to say probably 95% of parents are going to start with an Infant Car Seat

because they want those convenience features.

Now an Infant Car Seat you'll use from birth up until the weight or height limit of the

seat.

Average is about 30 lbs and 32 inches.

Once they reach that limit you do have to go into a Convertible Car Seat.

Now having said that most parents will stop using an Infant Car Seat at about a year or

until your baby gets too heavy, you're not really carrying it anyway because it's not

convenient anymore.

Now there are some study's showing that it's actually beneficial to stop using this at

a year and start using a Convertible Car Seat regardless if they've reached that weight

limit or that height limit just because the Convertible Car Seat is going to keep them

Safer.

Now when you're using this with an infant you do need to make sure that your using the

infant inserts that are included.

Typically those inserts are going to come out at about 10-11 lbs some of them are comfort

features so you do need to check with your car seat manual to see when those inserts

should be coming out.

Now this is a rear facing only seat.

DO NOT install an infant seat forward facing, it is not going to protect your child.

Also this handle there is a lot of confusion on whether you should keep it up or put it

down when you install and the reason for the confusion is it's different for every manufacturer

so you do need to check with your manual to see if they recommend it being up or down

or even if it matters.

Once your child reaches a year or you're not using the convenience features of an infant

car seat then you'll move into a convertible car sear.

Now the reason it's called convertible is because it does just that.

It converts from rear facing to forward facing.

Now when using it rear facing that's when you're going to use it with your little tiny

baby, make sure you're using the appropriate inserts and to take those out when it's appropriate.

Just read your manual to find out when that is.

Now one of the biggest questions is when do I switch from rear facing to forward facing?

This is probably the biggest safety tip that we can give you or the safety caution that

we can give you.

The minimum standard is 2 years AND 30 lbs.

So they need to be 2 years old and weigh 30 lbs in order to turn them forward facing.

Now best practice is even longer.

You want to reach the limits of the car seat.

So that's the weight limit OR the height limit.

Once they reach either of those then you do have to turn them forward facing.

Now some concerns that come up with keeping your child rear facing longer are #1, Leg

room.

Is my child comfortable?

First of all, your child's going to get comfortable in any seat they're in.

They can put their legs straight up on the seat behind them.

They can crisscross them, they can tuck their feet up underneath their bum.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of people think that they're going to get a leg

injury because there is no leg room in there but that's a huge misconception.

It's actually very rare that they're going to get a leg injury because the crash forces

or the energy is traveling in the opposite direction.

So it's actually taking them further from the seat in the car.

Now if they did get a leg injury while that is sad that is less detrimental to their health

then a neck or spine injury.

Now once your forward facing you want to continue using your convertible car seat as long as

you can and reach those limits of the car seat.

Now average convertible car seat weight limit is about 65 lbs.

I would say that most people will keep their children in a convertible car seat until they're

about 5.

However you can go all the way up to those limits and the average 9 year old is 65 lbs.

So you can use this for quite a while and you do want to keep your child as safe as

possible so try to reach those limits of the car seat.

Now once you're ready to take your child out of the convertible seat you do have a couple

options.

Now unfortunately most parents will go straight from a convertible car seat right into a high-back

or even a no back booster.

Just like this one.

Now that's not recommended now not only do they need to reach the height and weight limit

of a booster but they also have to have the maturity.

Now this is one thing that most parents don't know.

Is that in order to put your child in a booster they need to be able to sit in the seat properly,

properly harnessed every time even while sleeping.

Now if you can say that about your 5 year old go ahead and put them in a booster.

But I would say that's probably not the case.

That's where this seat comes in.

Now this is a combination high-back booster and 5 point harness.

The nice thing about it is it gives your child a little more room.

Say this one is getting a little bit squishy.

This one has a bigger seated space it also has a taller back so your child's going to

be a little bit more comfortable.

Now this is just forward facing.

So you don't have the option of going back and forth but you do still have this 5 point

harness and that's what's going to keep them contained in the event of a car accident.

Now once they reach the limits you can raise up the seat.

You can raise this all the way up.

Stop using the 5 point harness and then you can start using the seat belt of the car.

So you have a lot of flexibility with this one.

Now one thing to mention is seats like this seat or similar seats have a weight capacity

of 120 lbs.

So you really can use this until your child can sit directly on the vehicle seat.

If they reach the maturity level and they can appropriately use a booster we recommend

you going to a combination high-back/no-back booster as I showed you before you can actually

take the back off when it's appropriate.

Now the reason for the high-back or even a booster at all is really just to bring your

child up or bring the seat belt down so that it's right here at their shoulders so that's

less movement that your child does in the event of a car accident.

You want it to be snug on their hips as well as right here on their shoulders.

So you would use the high-back as long as you need to and then you can take this off

and use it just as a no back booster.

Now a lot of people will take the high-back off if it takes up too much room in their

car which is just fine as long as the seat belt is at an appropriate level.

Now when can you stop using a booster?

This is a really big question that a lot of people have.

I would say most if not 99% of parents are not using a booster long enough.

It's ok for your child to stop using a car seat all together when their bum is seated

on the seat, their back completely against the back of the car seat and their feet are

planted on the floor.

If they're seated just like that and the seat belt is right at their shoulder you don't

have to use a car seat anymore.

But until then please use a booster.

Now I'm a CPS tech that stands for Child Passenger Safety Technician.

So that just means I know a lot about car seats and honestly this is my ideal progression

of car seats this is what I personally use with my children to keep them safe.

Now all of these car seats can be purchased on our website where we price match,so why

not shop with us and they also ship for free!

Supermassive Black Holes or Their Galaxies? Which Came First? - Duration: 11:07.

There's a supermassive black hole at the center of almost every galaxy in the Universe.

How did they get there?

What's the relationship between these monster black holes and the galaxies that surround

them?

Every time astronomers look farther out in the Universe, they discover new mysteries.

These mysteries require all new tools and techniques to understand.

These mysteries lead to more mysteries.

What I'm saying is that it's mystery turtles all the way down.

One of the most fascinating is the discovery of quasars, understanding what they are, and

the unveiling of an even deeper mystery, where do they come from?

As always, I'm getting ahead of myself, so first, let's go back and talk about the

discovery of quasars.

Back in the 1950s, astronomers scanned the skies using radio telescopes, and found a

class of bizarre objects in the distant Universe.

They were very bright, and incredibly far away; hundreds of millions or even billion

of light-years away.

The first ones were discovered in the radio spectrum, but over time, astronomers found

even more blazing in the visible spectrum.

The astronomer Hong-Yee Chiu coined the term "quasar", which stood for quasi-stellar

object.

They were like stars, shining from a single point source, but they clearly weren't stars,

blazing with more radiation than an entire galaxy.

Over the decades, astronomers puzzled out the nature of quasars, learning that they

were actually black holes, actively feeding and blasting out radiation, visible billions

of light-years away.

But they weren't the stellar mass black holes, which were known to be from the death

of giant stars.

These were supermassive black holes, with millions or even billions of times the mass

of the Sun.

As far back as the 1970s, astronomers considered the possibility that there might be these

supermassive black holes at the heart of many other galaxies, even the Milky Way.

In 1974, astronomers discovered a radio source at the center of the Milky Way emitting radiation.

It was titled Sagittarius A*, with an asterisk that stands for "exciting", well, in the

"excited atoms" perspective.

This would match the emissions of a supermassive black hole that wasn't actively feeding

on material.

Our own galaxy could have been a quasar in the past, or in the future, but right now,

the black hole was mostly silent, apart from this subtle radiation.

Astronomers needed to be certain, so they performed a detailed survey of the very center

of the Milky Way in the infrared spectrum, which allowed them to see through the gas

and dust that obscures the core in visible light.

They discovered a group of stars orbiting Sagittarius A-star, like comets orbiting the

Sun.

Only a black hole with millions of times the mass of the Sun could provide the kind of

gravitational anchor to whip these stars around in such bizarre orbits.

Further surveys found a supermassive black hole at the heart of the Andromeda Galaxy,

in fact, it appears as if these monsters are at the center of almost every galaxy in the

Universe.

But how did they form?

Where did they come from?

Did the galaxy form first, and cause the black hole to form at the middle, or did the black

hole form, and build up a galaxy around them?

Until recently, this was actually still one of the big unsolved mysteries in astronomy.

That said, astronomers have done plenty of research, using more and more sensitive observatories,

worked out their theories, and now they're gathering evidence to help get to the bottom

of this mystery.

Astronomers have developed two models for how the large scale structure of the Universe

came together: top down and bottom up.

In the top down model, an entire galactic supercluster formed all at once out of a huge

cloud of primordial hydrogen left over from the Big Bang.

A supercluster's worth of stars.

As the cloud came together it, it spun up, kicking out smaller spirals and dwarf galaxies.

These could have combined later on to form the more complex structure we see today.

The supermassive black holes would have formed as the dense cores of these galaxies as they

came together.

If you want to wrap your mind around this, think of the stellar nursery that formed our

Sun and a bunch of other stars.

Imagine a single cloud of gas and dust forming multiple stars systems within it.

Over time, the stars matured and drifted away from each other.

That's top down.

One big event that leads to the structure we see today.

In the bottom up model, pockets of gas and dust collected together into larger and larger

masses, eventually forming dwarf galaxies, and even the clusters and superclusters we

see today.

The supermassive black holes at the heart of galaxies were grown from collisions and

mergers between black holes over eons.

In fact, this is actually how astronomers think the planets in the Solar System formed.

By pieces of dust attracting one another into larger and larger grains until the planet-sized

objects formed over millions of years.

Bottom up, small parts coming together.

So which is it?

Astronomers think they know the answer now, and we'll get to it in a second, but first

I'd like to thank:

Pablo Petit Nathan

Dana Basken

And the rest of our 773 patrons for their generous support.

If you love what we're doing and want to get in on the action, head over to patreon.com/universetoday.

Shortly after the Big Bang, the entire Universe was incredibly dense.

But it wasn't the same density everywhere.

Tiny quantum fluctuations in density at the beginning evolved over billions of years of

expansion into the galactic superclusters we see today.

I want to stop and let this sink into your brain for a second.

There were microscopic variations in density in the early Universe.

And these variations became the structures hundreds of millions of light-years across

we see today.

Imagine the two forces at play as the expansion of the Universe happened.

On the one hand, you've got the mutual gravity of the particles pulling one another together.

And on the other hand, you've got the expansion of the Universe separating the particles from

one another.

The size of the galaxies, clusters and superclusters were decided by the balance point of those

opposing forces.

If small pieces came together, then you'd get that bottom up formation.

If large pieces came together, you'd get that top down formation.

When astronomers look out into the Universe at the largest scales, they observe clusters

and superclusters as far as they can see - which supports the top down model.

On the other hand, observations show that the first stars formed just a few hundred

million years after the Big Bang, which supports bottom up.

So the answer is both?

No, the most modern observations give the edge to the bottom up processes.

The key is that gravity moves at the speed of light, which means that the gravitational

interactions between particles spreading away from each other needed to catch up, going

the speed of light.

In other words, you wouldn't get a supercluster's worth of material coming together, only a

star's worth of material.

But these first stars were made of pure hydrogen and helium, and could grow much more massive

than the stars we have today.

They would live fast and die in supernova explosions, creating much more massive black

holes than we get today.

The first protogalaxies came together, collecting together these first monster black holes and

the massive stars surrounding them.

And then, over millions and billions of years, these black holes merged again and again,

accumulating millions and even billions of times the mass of the Sun.

This was how we got the modern galaxies we see today.

There was a recent observation that supports this conclusion.

Earlier this year, astronomers announced the discovery of supermassive black holes at the

center of relatively tiny galaxies.

In our own Milky Way, the supermassive black hole is 4.1 million times the mass of the

Sun, but accounts for only .01% of the galaxy's total mass.

But astronomers from the University of Utah found two ultra compact galaxies with black

holes of 4.4 million and 5.8 million times the mass of the Sun respectively.

And yet, the black holes account for 13 and 18 percent of the mass of their host galaxies.

The thinking is that these galaxies were once normal, but collided with other galaxies earlier

on in the history of the Universe, were stripped of their stars and then were spat out to roam

the cosmos.

They're the victims of those early merging events, evidence of the carnage that happened

in the early Universe when the mergers were happening.

We always talk about the unsolved mysteries in the Universe, but this is one that astronomers

are starting to puzzle out.

It seems most likely that the structure of the Universe we see today formed bottom up.

The first stars came together into protogalaxies, dying as supernova to form the first black

holes.

The structure of the Universe we see today is the end result of billions of years of

formation and destruction.

With the supermassive black holes coming together over time.

Once telescopes like James Webb get to work, we should be able to see these pieces coming

together, at the very edge of the observable Universe.

This was a fun episode, and I know you're fascinated by black holes.

Were there any other topics that you'd like me to dig into?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

In our next episode we look at the Deep Space Gateway, NASA's plans to put a space station

out at the Moon, which will serve as a stepping stone to the rest of the Solar System.

It's time for a playlist, all about supermassive black holes.

First, I'd like to direct you to an interview I did with Dr. Andrea Ghez, who found the

supermassive black hole at the heart of the Milky Way.

Followed by a TED talk she gave.

This acid prevents secretion of bad cholesterol and helps to lose weight.

If you take cheese once in a while you can get its goodness.

Chocolate is favourite for everyone.

Chocolate is full of antioxidants present in fruits and vegetables.

It fights against cancer and heart disease.

It has steric acid who helps to control cholesterol levels.

Coco in chocolate is good for health so take a piece of dark chocolate everyday and enjoy.

Pizza is healthy if you make it at home using Wheat Flour instead and Maida with added vegetables and cheese.

All of use ghee in food.

Most of us think that ghee has cholesterol and it leads to weight gain.

When you add little ghee in your food it helps digestion.

Ghee contains antioxidants,Vitamin K, linoleic acid and you can add 1 tsp of ghee in your food.

Some of you think that drinking milkshake is unhealthy.

But we can use fat free milk while preparing milkshake.

5 UNUSUAL FACTS ABOUT GREECE, WHICH ARE NOT A JOKE! | PL w/ ENG subs - Duration: 8:42.

Hi everyone! My name is Martyna and I would like to tell you today 5 unusual facts about Greece,

which could really be a bad joke, but… they are the truth!

I have hope it will be interesting for you and you will like it. Keep on watching!

Number 1 We are not flushing toilet paper in the toilet.

In a public toilet you can see the signs "Please don't throw paper in the toilet".

And many of my friends thought, that it was a joke.

I have to admit that I didn't follow this rule for a long time! For whole first year in Greece it was too disgusting for me!

Now I live in the place I don't really have a choice and I have to do it,

even though I really don't like it. In my opinion it's very unhygienic.

Ah, I forgot to tell you what you have to do with the used paper! You have to throw it to the garbage bin, which in always in the toilet.

I think that there is nothing worse than that!

But they require that even in hotels and I'm sure they will tell you about it many times.

The reason is very simple – pipes are too small, the diameter is very small and, simply,

paper could just block it and we can have a flood in our house. Very nasty flood.

Number 2. Stores opening hours are very strange.

In Greece we have 3 hours of siesta, between 14:30-17:30.

Moreover in every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday shops are open from morning until 14:30, but they are closed after siesta!

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday shops are open from morning until 14:30 and after siesta until very late evening.

On Sundays everything is closed, so you get the feeling,

when you come here just for one week, that everything is closed all the time!

Number 3 I think that everyone have seen "My big fat Greek wedding",

and if not I really recommend to watch it on some rainy evening!

There is one scene, which I want to show you

And it's not a joke! In Greece you have five names

and all male names have its female equivalent!

So there is Giorgos (m) and Giorgia (f), Dimitris (m) and Dimitra (f),

Panagiotis (m), Panagiota (f), Giannis (m), Gianna (f)!

And even if you really like the Greek names, I just really don't understand this tradition,

for me it's a little bit stupid.

There is also a certain way to named your baby

– firstborn boy and girl are getting a name after their grandparents from the father's side.

Second babies may, but don't have to take a name

after grandparents from the mother's side – you can choose a name you like.

But if for example my husband has a brother, they both have to named babies after their parents.

So, what you saw in "My big fat Greek wedding" is true!

In one family you can have ten Nikos's and five Giorgos's and everyone is going to be happy about it!

In my opinion it is very bad, not only because you may not like those names,

but also because there is nothing so important as choosing a name for your babe.

I think all mothers will know what I'm talking about

– choosing a name is a process, you want to pick a name with a meaning

and imagine how this name will affect your baby's life.

And here someone takes this opportunity from you.

And maybe the fathers are happy about it, maybe

they like this tradition

but I think that women raised in liberal families, like mine, won't agree for this.

Number 4 Cockroaches in Greece are that huge

– no banana for scale, but they are honestly that big.

They can be huge like your thumb.

And they can fly!

Luckily for me I have never seen one,

because I don't know how I would react. Maybe I would run home.

Or I would hide in some bunker….

There is more cockroaches in the bunkers, right?!

Number 5 Greeks are ALWAYS late.

I met very few Greek people who are on time, but even they could run late from time to time.

The reason to be late can be absolutely everything.

But one, the most common reason is… RAIN.

When it's raining outside, you can stay home, because anyone and anything will be on time!

I have an impression that Greek are made out of sugar!

but what is the worst for me,

I have never met anyone who will be sorry about being late.

I have a feeling that in central/northern Europe

… or in any other country,

when you are not on time, you are showing that person,

that his time is not valuable and important as yours.

Greeks will say:

"You know I'm going to be late, just don't come on time"!

Simple as that, right?

Thank you very much for watching, this is all I have prepared for you today.

If you like it, please give a thumb up and a comment.

You can also subscribe to my channel if you want –

– I want to record more videos about Greece, my daily life and travels.

That's all for today, thank you very much! Bye!
