Well, I believe it's been about
3 months since I started playing
a song once a month here on my channel
for you with my ukulele,
which I started learning in January and I haven't
played a song in
Portuguese yet and many of you have been
asking: "where's the song in Portuguese?"
"Where's the song in Portuguese?"
So, why not play a song
I composed to be the first song in Portuguese?
I'm not a musician. Those of you who follow me
here on this channel know it, but this song, in
fact, was a poem I wrote and
then I thought: why not turn
this poem into a song? So I
read the poem several times
until a melody came to my
mind and then, the most difficult part,
of course, was to find the chords for it because I'm
not a musician,
but I remembered of two singers
who I heard saying that
in order to compose many, thousands of songs,
you only need 4 chords or 5
chords and then I thought: well, if I only need 4 chords,
maybe I can do this, so....and those
singers were Kate Nash and Lana Del Rey, by the way.
So, I...first, I...I don't
have a piano, but I played the
online piano until I found the key
my song is in and then I listened to
some chord progressions
and chose the one I thought matched
my song and coincidentally,
or not, it's one of the most common
chord progressions in pop music of the last, the
last decades.
When it comes to the theme
of the song, those of you who've seen the video
I made called "Open your mind" will
better understand what I mean
in this song because I think that in a
world like ours where everybody tries...
many people try to simplify everything
into this or that,
us versus them,
right-wing versus left-wing,
I think it's important to remember that the
world is more complex than that and that
things are not always divided into
two opposite realities and also, in
a way or another, this song is
a little tribute to Brazilian culture
and Brazilian artists, the
loved ones, the hated ones,
and the ones in the middle,
so that's it.
A Cecília me dizia
que temos todos que escolher
entre isto ou aquilo,
correr ou estar tranquilo.
Caminhando outro dia,
alguém veio me dizer:
"mas e aquilo outro?
Nem tudo é 80 ou 8".
"A vida é feita de escolhas,
mas nem sempre elas vêm em pares.
Se não souber o que fazer, pare
e veja se você está em uma bolha".
Casamento ou bicicleta?
"Que tal pedalar com o marido?"
Ser artista ou ter dinheiro?
"Vai perguntar pro Britto."
Para ser escritor,
tem que escrever complicado?
"Ah, faça-me o favor,
"Supere o falso dilema."
E como eu faço isso?
"Entre na toca do Coelho."
Como um alquimista?
"Escolha o comprimido vermelho."
"A vida é feita de escolhas
mas nem sempre elas vêm em pares,
se não souber o que fazer, pare...
talvez você esteja em uma bolha..."
"There is always something more than two opposing truths. The whole truth always includes a third part, which is the reconciliation" - Jacob Needleman
