Experiment 10. What we are going to do is dye solution (Campeche stick).

What we are going to use in this experiment may be another Gerber, if you want,

or a plastic bottle with a cap.

You'll put it inside the Gerber,

It should be about five glass tubes.

Montaje de la exposición "Tesoros de la Hispanic Society of America. Visiones del mundo hispánico" - Duration: 4:11.

The installation of the exhibition, which occupies the three main galleries of the Jerónimos Building,

presented a challenge to the two institutions involved.

For the Museum's temporary exhibitions team the coordination of this exhibition

was complex, principally due to the large number of works and the range of different materials.

This is the first time the Hispanic Society has presented such a large selection of objects

outside its own building in New York.

To complete an installation of this type, with these levels of finish

and in the relatively short time available for installing an exhibition in a museum

with a continuous exhibition programme, we had to work as a team

and also coordinate specialised teams.

By the time the works arrived the galleries were completely finished

in terms of the construction of the walls, the wall paint,

the making of the display cases and the electrical system.

During the installation period we were able to count at all times on two restorers

from the Hispanic Society whose job was to check and supervise the installation of the works

on the basis of the exhibition project which they already knew.

We were also able to count on the support of the Museo del Prado's restoration department,

working simultaneously with the paper, sculpture,

decorative arts and paintings restorers.

The team that moves works of art at the Museo del Prado

was the one entrusted with hanging the paintings

- "When you're ready we can lift, think about the height…"

and also the installation of objects

that were more complex due to their weight or volume.

The exhibition includes more than 200 exhibits of which 76 are paintings.

The rest, more than a hundred, are marble sculptures, polychromed wood objects,

ceramics, wrought iron, silver, jewellery, furniture, books and textiles,

meaning that we had to study their display requirements in detail.

We have ensured the correct lighting level for works on paper and textiles;

created sealed cases for those objects – principally lacquer and silver

that require environmental conditions different to the normal ones in exhibition galleries;

and we have made special, individual supports for each object.

"Will the supports for the bowls be ready tomorrow?"

"Yes, they're bringing them this afternoon or tomorrow"

In the gallery displaying medieval art, for example, the tin-glazed ceramics are displayed

in a spectacular manner with supports that allow you to see both the back and front

through a window that reveals other areas in the exhibition.

We've also been able to count on textile conservation experts who have made

special supports for the Hispano-American pieces.

I would say that both institutions are very happy with the result.

We've worked with the approach of installing a permanent collection

and not a temporary exhibition, as the objects needed that.
