JOHN 2: Maybe so.
BOTH JOHNS: But we're coming back next week.
JOHN 2: I can't wait until next week.
BOTH JOHNS: Now it's time for us to say so long.
(BOTH JOHNS VOCALIZING)

Handball Star Luc Abalo Finds Equality on the Court | Flag and Family - Duration: 4:50.
I've never asked myself that question.
I was born in France, I grew up in France.
It goes without saying that I'd play for France.
(FLAG AND FAMILY)
(LUC ABALO)
(FRANCE, PARIS)
I'm Luc Abalo,
a player on the French national handball team.
I started when I was 14 at Ivry-sur-Seine,
in a club on the outskirts of Paris.
Ivry is a town where handball
has always played a vital role.
There has always been a good handball team in this town.
My favourite memory
is of the 2012 Olympic Games.
That was the hardest tournament for me.
We weren't a very confident team.
Nevertheless, we managed to win.
The Paris Saint-Germain team
represents diverse nationalities and cultures.
Other players grew up differently from me.
Sometimes there are situations where we don't all react
the same way.
That's due to how we grew up
and the country in which we were born.
It also depends on the parents.
I've learned to put myself in their shoes
and to understand how they
live and experience it.
(PSG HANDBALL
(18 ATHLETES - 8 NATIONS - 1 TEAM)
There are differences on the court that you would notice.
But there are in everyday life.
That's where you can feel
that we're not from the same culture.
It wasn't my dream to become a handball player
or a top athlete.
It was my dream to become
a painter or an illustrator.
I think I'll do that after handball.
In photography I like the way
objects are arranged in the frame,
Whether it's painting or photography,
I like portraits best.
I think facial expressions have so much power.
I love... I love faces.
I do a lot of art-related things
because I have a creative drive.
It's like a calling.
A voice inside me says,
"Don't sit around in front of the TV doing nothing."
I'm a little hyperactive,
so I need to be creative.
(CREATIVITY FACTS
(CREATIVITY DOES NOT HAVE A CORRECT ANSWER)
I don't accept borders.
Humanity has its differences:
skin colour, we don't all speak the same language.
But we're all human beings.
It doesn't matter if the jerseys
we're wearing are blue, yellow or red.
When we're on the court, fighting to win,
we don't see the differences in skin colour, nationality,
culture or upbringing.
On the court, we're all just equals.

Israelis: Why did your family come to Israel? - Duration: 14:54.
Where are your parents from? Where were they born?
My mother in Nahalal and my father on a Kibbutz (Israel)
Where were your grandparents born?
Amos Rishon Lezion
My father's parents were born in Poland
my grandmother came to Israel
at the beginning of World War 2
My grandfather towards the end of the war
Why did they come?
They were Zionists
pioneers
friends in a Zionist youth group
they attended pioneer training
The other side of your family?
The other side
My grandfather was born in Israel
His parents came in the Second Aliya
1880s?
No, early 1900s
In the first decade of the 20th century
From where?
What is today Ukraine
So they also came for Zionist reasons
They were very Zionist and were friends also in youth groups
in Europe and then came here
to settle the Land of Israel
Also my grandmother's parents came in the Third Aliya
What ethnic group are you from?
Come stand here so they see the sign
Gil Rehovot
Hummus Levinsky
What ethnicity?
I am half Tunisian and half Moroccan
On both sides
I assume they came in the 1950s, right
True
So why did they come?
Why did they come?
Wow, they waited to come to Israel
Their entire dream was to go to Israel
What do you mean? Their dream?
Their dream. Their parent's parents
They always prayed to go to Israel
You mean in every generation
Every generation
So they came because...why Israel?
They were Zionists
My grandfather served in the Israeli army
My grandfather even served in the army even though he was too old
Nice
So why were they Zionists?
Why be Zionist?
Look, whoever...
You are explaining this to outsiders
Of course
They prayed their entire lives
they prayed in Hebrew
even though they spoke Arabic they prayed in Hebrew
and all the prayers (in Judaism) are about returning to Israel
All prayers
So they had the chance
They had the chance
The first chance they had they came here
What is your ethnic background?
Moroccan
Both sides? - Yes
Shlomi Tel Aviv
My grandfather is from Morocco
Your parents came from Morocco?
Why did they come here?
Explain to people outside Israel
Why did they come?
First of all
everyone was obsessed with going to Israel
to the Promised Land
to "our home", a safe place
Muslims in Morocco claim
that the Jews one day disappeared and that they were kidnapped
the Ashkenazis (European Jews) kidnapped them
Who was kidnapped?
You
Moroccan Jews
I don't understand What...?
There is a claim in Morocco
that the European Jews came to Morocco
kidnapped the Moroccan Jews
How they kidnapped so many I have no idea
Do you know the difference between a battery and a Moroccan?
A battery has a positive side (it is a joke about Moroccan Israelis)
Kidding
Who kidnapped them? No one kidnapped them
They left for Israel
Immigration
I remember hearing that the young men left first
my father went first
actually, his brother went first
Basically, it was
youth immigration
If I remember correctly
So then his parents came?
Yes, first the youth left
and later the parents
But why did they want to move?
Why did the Jews of Morocco... they are Moroccan!
That is the claim
why should they go to Israel
"a land that doesn't belong to them"
That doesn't belong to the Moroccans?
No, doesn't belong to the Jews
The land doesn't belong to the Jews?
That is the claim
Of course the land belongs to the Jews what are you talking about?
The claim in Morocco
The question actually comes from this claim
the claim in Morocco is that this land is not Jewish
Moroccan Jews are Moroccan
Period
There isn't even a connection between the Jews and this place
No, that is rediculous
Israel is the country of the Jews
The moment that the Jews act properly (according to the Torah)
then they need to return to their home
the moment the Jews start to not follow the rules (of the Torah)
then they will lose it
What is your ethnic background?
Ayelet Ramat Gan
Half Iraqi, half Moroccan
From both sides, why did they come to Israel?
As part of Zionism
and also they had nowhere to live anymore
What does that mean?
In Iraq, there was the Farhoud (mass attack on Jews)
so they fled
and also in Morocco.. it was also for Zionist reasons I think
You know this or you think?
Zionism and love of the land of Israel
and Judaism, they were religious Jews
Why am I asking?
The question comes from someone in Morocco
who says
that his grandmother told him that one day
all the Jews of the village disappeared
and until today, they don't know why
Oh
So why?
I think as part of Zionism
and Judaism
So why didn't they tell the Muslims why they were leaving?
I never looked into it to that extent
What is your ethnic background?
Half and half
Gilad Natanya
My father is Ashkenazi (European Jew)
he was born in Israel but his parents were from Poland
and my mother is from Morocco She was born there
(applause)
Everyone is Moroccan today
Why did they come to Israel? - Magreb!
You need to ask Eppie he has a good story
My father's parents ran away from the Second World War
Before or after?
During
The war broke out, they fled and came here
to Afula (town in Israel)
I think my mother immigrated
My father... Oh, sorry
My uncle tells that his father
said that when they came here
that they were coming to Zion
to Jerusalem to study Torah
So part of this is from religion not just Zionism
Yes
Not Zionism as we think of it today
Not the "Love of Zion" the Land of Israel
Meaning the idea of a country - Yes
As you know, Zionism as
Jerusalem (the religious sense)
meaning the prayers that they have been saying for 2000 years
about return to the land
maybe something...
They weren't that religious
they were traditional people
my mother's family
Yes, there is an aspect of Messianism as well
the love of return to our roots
What ethnic group do you belong to?
Michal Tel Aviv
Why do you need to know?
Libya
Because the Arabs didn't want them to be there anymore
Of course
There was violence, ok
What ethnic background do you come from?
Religion? Jewish
No, ethnicity
Ashkenazi (European Jew)
From?
Tal Tel Aviv
My grandparents were from Poland, Luxembourg
Russia and Romania
Luxembourg is beautiful
Why did they come here?
All of them ran away from the Nazis
Before the war?
Yes
Two or three years before the war
but the grandmother from Russia
her family came from Russia
she was born here
and they came as immigrants
as Zionists
What is your ethnic background?
Yemenite
Both sides
Shai Tel Aviv
Both sides but there is some Polish in us too
Where?
My mother has green eyes
Because of that...
Who came from Yemen? How many generations?
I am second generation here
So my grandparents came from Yemen
Why did they come?
Because its amazing here
They didn't know that before they left
They came because this is their place
they came because of a deep sense of mission
What is your ethnic background?
Tom Holon
Half Syrian, half from the Caucasus
So from Syria and the Caucusus
why did they come here?
Why did they come?
The Caucus side
were in Eastern Europe
during the Holocaust
They were in a concentration camp
so they wanted to come to Israel
So they came after the Holocaust?
Yes, after the Holocaust
And the Syrian side?
On the Syrian side, my father met Yigal Alon
who brought him to Israel
and they organized Syrian Jews to come to Israel
He was an underground activist
But why did he want to come?
To immigrate to Israel
as a mission
But why?
It was my grandfather, I don't know
The mission of bringing Jews to the Land of Israel
What is your ethnic background?
I am Tunian and Libyan
Dana Tel Aviv
Your grandparents came here? - Yes
Why did they come to Israel?
Why did they come?
You are explaining to people outside Israel, not to me
I think because of Zionism
They never told you anything about that?
about why?
They died young so I don't know
but I heard from my parents that they came as Zionists
and that they weren't wanted in those countries
and this was their place
and we have no other country
Owen Tel Aviv
I love it and believe in it
What is your ethnic background?
Half Moroccan, half Iraqi
Everyone is Moroccan today
Meirav Rishon Lezion
Both sides, I assume it was your grandparents that came
Why did they come here?
On my mother's side from Morocco
my grandfather immigrated to Israel as a patriot
he came to fight (for Israel)
and settle the land
My grandmother...
Why was that important to him?
I think because he was a Jew
and they wanted to settle the country of Israel
the state of the Jews
He wanted to contribute his part
so he ran away from there (Morocco)
Did he tell you this? - Yes
And the other side?
The other side is from Iraq
also there were
violent riots (against the Jews)
so they had to leave
So they left everything there
Businesses, homes
and ran away to Israel
If there hadn't been the Farhoud (violent riots) do you think
they would have moved to Israel anyways?
From Iraq?
From a religious perspective was it important?
I assume the reasons were both
My grandfather on my father's side
I never met him
I know the Iraqi Jews were in a good situation actually in Morocco also
I know in Iraq they were in a very good situation
also in Morocco my grandfather's family
my grandfather was 16 and decided on his own to leave
his home (in Morocco) and come to Israel
Did his parents come after or did they stay there?
Yes, they came here
I don't know if his mother came
but his father did for sure
They lived here in Tel Aviv
in the Carmel Market
That's it
About my Iraqi grandfather I never met him
so only through stories do I know
that he came because of the riots
What is your ethnic background?
Half Egyptian, half Syrian and half Ashkenazi (European Jew)
Why did your grandparents
come to Israel?
Bar Tel Aviv
I don't know
I think because
their families were already here
before them, their brothers and sisters were already here
From what year?
1930 something
That is the Egyptian side
and from Syria, because it was very dangerous in Syria
in that period
There is a really cool story where they dressed up as Muslim women
and got on the train
and came to Israel
and then my great grandfather came
But the reasons
I have none
You don't know
Things were not good in Damascus
and Egypt they all came here because everyone else came here
Because everyone came here
And my Ashkenazi side is five generations here
so I have no idea, I don't know them
