Eyeshadow Dos & Don'ts - Duration: 3:07.
Don't apply eyeshadow directly to your lids.
There may be some oils on your skin that can mix into your eyeshadow,
and start creasing badly.
Like really badly!
Do always prime your lids.
Because primer is essential to keep your eyeshadow in place,
and for it to stay on for a couple of hours.
If you don't own an eyeshadow primer just use a concealer.
It's just as good and will conceal away dark areas all at once.
Don't use a very structured or thin brush.
Using the wrong brush can have your eyeshadow looking like a hot mess.
Also, it's key to never press your brush or hold it too close to the bristles.
Do however choose a fluffy brush with easy bristles.
This allow the mix of colours to blend perfectly together.
Hold the brush towards the back, and with a circling motion blend it out.
Don't apply a dark colour directly to your eyelid.
Using a dark shade will make it tough for you to blend the colour and it's just going to look way too harsh.
Do start off with a transition shade first.
This is essentially used on your crease.
Use a light shade and with a gently stokes go back and forth until you see a dual colour.
You can then add another colour to the centre of the lid and start blending it into the crease.
Don't apply your mascara, eyeliner, or your compact powder before your eyeshadow.
There's bound to be fall-out of pigment when you apply your eyeshadow
and it's super hard to clean these things.
Especially the powder over your cream or liquid foundation.
Do apply the rest of these add ons after you apply the eyeshadow.
See? Eyeshadow application doesn't have to be hard.
With the right tools and steps, you are an assured pro!

I'm opportunistically Andrew Heaton and this is Mostly Weekly, right?
So last week what happened was Hillary Clinton released her memoir about the 2016 election
entitled What Happened.
To deliver the definitive Clinton explanation of what happened,
rather than the truly burning question of:
What the **** roller-coaster **** happened?
So I had my head writer comb through the book, these were her reactions.

Here's the main takeaway from What Happened:
Hillary got a sucky deal, but she's also kind of a sucky politician,
so it's sort of like seeing someone get shat upon by a bird,
but then finding out that person is Charlie Sheen, so,
ehhhh?
Hillary appears to be suffering from early onset I.D.D.
Introspection Deficit Disorder.
The book spends a lot of time taking complete ownership of how her actions
are all your fault.
Come on Ron Ham, even Dominoes owned up to their terrible pizza,
don't be the Papa John's of politicians.
So here are the top three reasons Hillary Clinton is not President Hillary Clinton,
according to not President Hillary Clinton.
Number one, Bernie Sanders.
Clinton claims that she lost, in part, because a disheveled socialist grandpa
promised wide eyed millennials a college tuition farting unicorn.
Because Hillary Clinton never ever promised her constituents something unrealistic.
No Way!
No!
Number two, the media.
Ah, the media.
The classic bastion of right wing conspiracies.
Hillary blames the media for it's free coverage of Donald Trump,
who, yes, did get millions of dollars worth of free air time by acting like a jackass,
when they could have been airing footage of her zingers like this:
I'm trying to figure out how we get them to have Pokemon Go to the polls.
So relevant.
Number three, white women.
Apparently, some white women did not vote for Hillary Clinton.
In an interview Hillary says quote:
Okay I think I get it,
so women were sexist against Hillary because they're too weak willed
against the desires of the men in their lives.
It's definitely not because some women
might have autonomously developed reasons not to vote for Hillary.
And although Bernie, the media and white ladies share the bulk of the blame,
What Happened has a lot more pages to fill.
And so it offers plenty of other scapegoats.
Hillary does talk about her own faults,
albeit in a way that's uh
what's that word?
Wrong!
What some might call constant repeated lying to the press about financial entanglement,
she describes as being 'guarded'.
What some might call risking national security,
she describes as being 'technologically flawed'.
She is a bit vague about her flaws so let's be specific about them.
We noticed a few in the book.
She compares crowds shouting 'guilty guilty' at Trump rallies
to a scene from Game of Thrones
where crowds shouted 'shame shame' at Cercei Lannister.
Did anyone tell her that Cercei Lannister is one of the bad guys?
She knows that nurse Ratchet isn't the hero, right?
Was she rooting for Scar?
Another example of her tone deafness is her take on 1984.
When describing the purpose of the torture scene:
That's odd.
Because usually everyone else interprets 1984 as
'Don't rust the people in power.'
But there's one person Hillary Clinton was right to blame:
Donald Trump.
In her book, Hillary called our 45th man-child in chief a:
'Flagrantly sexist, hateful creep.'
and a 'clear and present danger to the country and the world.'
In response, Trump re-tweeted a gif of himself hitting Hillary with a golf ball.
But really the main person at fault for the failure of Hillary Clinton is:
Hillary Clinton!

Fortunately her new book, What Happened,

In Puerto Rico after Maria, 'we've got nothing and we don't know for how long we'll go without' - Duration: 5:28.
JUDY WOODRUFF: Hurricane Maria continued her march across the Caribbean, still as a powerful
Category 3 storm.
Puerto Rico is dealing with a dam failure in the western part of the island; 70,000
people are in the process of being evacuated.
Damage estimates have already reached $45 billion for the Caribbean islands in the storm's
path.
And all told, at least 27 have been blamed on Maria.
John Yang has more.
JOHN YANG: Across waterlogged Puerto Rico, many of the 3.4 million residents have been
forced from their homes.
Two days after Maria made landfall, knocking out power and communications, the personal
stories of facing the storm's wrath are just emerging.
These women live in Salinas, along the southeast coast.
WOMAN (through translator): A lot of trees and many, many houses destroyed and boats
on the ground.
The power and the water are out, everything, everything.
We don't have anything.
We have got nothing and we don't know for how long we will go without.
WOMAN (through translator): It came when my son said that we have lost everything.
It took our house.
It's tough, but we're going to start over.
QUESTION: What are you going to do now?
WOMAN (through translator): We're going to the shelter.
JOHN YANG: Governor Ricardo Rossello reports complete devastation.
Damage estimates reached $30 billion on Puerto Rico alone.
With areas submerged beneath floodwaters, the U.S. military and Federal Emergency Management
Agency began airlifting aid, water, food, generators and temporary shelters.
MAN: We're able to fly on our mobility aircraft, firefighters, search-and-rescue and other
civil support as well.
Until probably today, there was no real understanding at all of the level, the gravity of the situation.
JOHN YANG: Today, Maria kept churning north, lashing the Turks and Caicos.
The Eastern Bahamas are next, and then is forecast to make a slight turn east into the
open Atlantic.
Damage to Saint Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the tiny island of Dominica was also extensive.
Both islands have no power and curfews are in place to prevent looting.
It could take years for some of the Caribbean islands to fully recover from Hurricanes Maria
and Irma.
That includes nation of Antigua and Barbuda.
Sir Rodney Williams is the governor general.
A family physician, he is currently on a medical mission in the United States.
He joins us from Annapolis, Maryland.
Your Excellency, let me -- can I start by asking you what conditions are like on Antigua
and Barbuda?
GOV.
GEN.
RODNEY WILLIAMS, Antigua and Barbuda: Well, in the phase now where we're trying to rebuild.
And the whole question is, how do we deal with the people from Barbuda in particular,
because we are concerned about their well-being, their protection and their social needs.
And the persons from -- all the people from Barbuda are now in Antigua, and some living
with family, some living with friends, and some living in shelters.
I must say that the government and the various agencies did a very good job in educating
the population prior to and during the hurricane.
And now it's time to rebuild.
We have actually accommodated 500 schoolchildren in schools in Antigua.
And we have also put their teachers to those schools so that they can be feeling comfortable.
Presently, the government is working on some accommodation to make them more private and
more comfortable by restructuring a hotel.
There's an old nurses' hostel that is being renovated as well.
And there's an old Pan Am base on the island that they're putting things in order so that
the Barbuda on Antigua and Barbuda can have their own private accommodation.
And things are moving along rather smoothly.
JOHN YANG: And, as you say, all the people from Barbuda have been moved to Antigua.
How long do you think they are going to have to stay there?
GOV.
GEN.
RODNEY WILLIAMS: Well, that is a very difficult question for me to answer.
A lot will depend on what they find on the ground.
Right now, they're cleaning up Barbuda.
They have been able to bury the dead animals and they're cleaning up the debris on the
island.
And persons from Barbuda have been allowed to go back on a daily basis to protect their
assets and then they return at night to Antigua.
There are teams on the ground looking at Barbuda and looking at what is needed.
From my understanding, they are trying to ensure that the rebuilding of Barbuda takes
into account the type of island that we want to bring back.
We have got to develop innovative ways and ensure that we have some of the best engineers
and technicians who will advise as to how we will build the country, the island, because
we're going to have to make sure that the buildings that we put up are durable and that
it is sustainable in the long run.

Can cat mothers distinguish between their own and alien offspring?
And can they use olfactory cues in the discrimination process?
For mammalian mothers, maternal care comes at a large energetic cost;
To maximize their fitness, mothers should preferentially care for their own offspring
and thus should be able to recognize them
The question now is how can they recognize their own offspring?
Olfactory cues have been found to play an important role in mother–offspring recognition
in a variety of mammals.
The majority of these studies have focused on herd- or colony-living species as bat,
where mothers identifying their own young among the group is a daily task.
In contrast, there is almost no study or available information on mother–offspring olfactory
recognition in solitary-living species.
This is understandable since mothers of solitary species are unlikely to encounter alien young
and thus should rarely have to distinguish them from their own
so, it is difficult—almost impossible—to observe and compare a solitary mother's
behaviour with her own and with alien young under natural conditions.
Here we propose the domestic cat as a model species to study mother–young olfactory
communication in a carnivore evolved from a solitary-living ancestor.
But why cats?
Because cats can be kept and experimented with under semi-natural free-ranging conditions,
and mothers readily permit the handling and manipulation of newborn young by familiar caretakers.
7 facts about cats

The domestic cat is a seasonal breeder; females give birth synchronously to their litters in spring.

Litter size usually varies from 3 to 5.
3.
The domestic cat is generally considered a facultatively solitary species;
in low-density populations, adult females usually live alone.
4.
Although cats do not construct nests, they are adept at hiding their kittens in refuges
providing protection from weather, predators and potentially infanticidal males.
5.
Cats have a variety of scent glands distributed over their body (cheeks, abdomen, paws, above
the tail and near anogenital region), and with these they frequently mark objects in their surroundings.
6.
During conspecific encounters, cats routinely sniff each other's faces and especially
each other's anogenital area.
7.
Cat mothers also sniff and lick their kittens upon entering the nest, focusing particularly
on their anogenital area.
Study sites and animals
The 19 domestic cat mothers participating in this study were kept as pets in private
homes in Mexico City and had recently given birth to their litters.
Since it is known that in several species maternal selectivity develops rapidly
—even within hours of giving birth—
we carried out our experiments at an early lactational age.
Experiment 1: retrieval to the nest
We conducted retrieval tests with 12 mothers.
We used 2 of the mothers' own and 2 alien kittens in all trials.
When choosing the test kittens from the litters, we tried to match their sex and colour whenever possible.
Tests were performed at a time when the mother had spontaneously left the nest site and the room.
One experimenter placed in alternating order 2 alien and 2 own kittens approximately 1 m
from the entrance of the nest in separated plastic containers, leaving 25 cm between kittens.
After the experimenter positioned the kittens in the containers, she walked to the farthest
corner of the room and stayed there motionless.
Within seconds, the kittens started emitting separation cries, which prompted the mothers
to return quickly to the room.
Results and discussion
7 of the 12 mothers retrieved all 4 kittens, 2 only retrieved 2 kittens (in both cases
1 own and 1 alien kitten), and the other 3 mothers did not retrieve any.
Thus, only the data for the 9 mothers retrieving kittens are given in Table 1.
However, we found no difference in mothers' behaviour toward own and alien kittens except
mothers tended to investigate alien kittens earlier and longer.
Furthermore, we found no significant difference in the latency to retrieve own and alien young
nor in the order to retrieve them.
We suggest that upon entering the room, mothers noticed (perhaps by olfactory or vocal cues)
there were unfamiliar kittens present and so they investigated those first.
These results are consistent with the previous findings of Ohkawa and Hidaka (1987) that
cat mothers do not discriminate between own and alien offspring; they retrieve them equally.
This nevertheless raises the question whether mothers who provide nondiscriminative maternal
care are in fact able to distinguish between their own and alien offspring?
Several studies have shown that although in some mammalian species mothers have the ability
from an early lactational age to discriminate between own and alien young using olfactory cues,
they do not do so when providing maternal care
Therefore, in a second experiment we were interested to know whether cat mothers show
similar behaviour,
namely, are able to discriminate between own and alien offspring, and if yes, do they use olfactory cues to do so?
Important note
In the second and third experiments, we used the olfactory habituation-discrimination technique.
In the habituation-discrimination procedure, the test animal is presented with an odour
(habituation odour) for either an extended period or over repeated trials.
During this phase, the subject's interest in the odour should decrease due to habituation.
Next, a different odour (test odour) is presented in the same way to the same test animal.
If the subject is able to differentiate between the two types of odour, the time spent investigating
the test odour increases compared to the previous habituation odour.
Experiment 2: anogenital inspection
13 cat mothers participated in this study.
In each test, we presented 3 different kittens from the mother's own litter (habituation
trials), followed by presentation of an alien kitten.
The kittens were presented in the following way: the experimenter gently wrapped them
individually in clean, unscented cloth in such a way that only their anogenital region was exposed.
The experimenter presented each kitten's anogenital region to the mother, allowing her to sniff it.
Results and discussion
Mothers spent a decreasing amount of time sniffing their own kittens' anogenital region,
but then sniffed significantly longer when we presented them with an alien kitten.
This result suggesting that the alien kitten's scent was distinct from that of their own kittens.
So, Experiment 2 showed that the cat mothers could discriminate between own and alien kittens.
Experiment 3: general body odour
11 cat mothers participated in this experiment.
Since no information is available on the development of the scent glands of young kittens,
we collected whole body odour assuming that at least some parts of the kitten produce biologically relevant odours.
Each kitten was rubbed with a dry, sterile cotton swab stick 5 times on its back, stomach,
axilla, anogenital area and on both sides of the face.
The experimenter presented one by one the first three swabs that had been rubbed on the mother's own but different kittens,
followed by a swab that had been rubbed on an alien kitten, and allowed her to sniff each one.
Results and discussion
Mothers spent a decreasing amount of time sniffing swabs that had been rubbed on their own kittens,
but then sniffed significantly longer at the swab that had been rubbed on an alien kitten.
So, Experiment 3 confirmed that cat mothers are indeed able to distinguish own from alien young using only olfactory cues.
Conclusion and general discussion
In summary, our findings suggest cat mothers have the ability from an early lactational
age to distinguish between the scent of their own and alien offspring, but in practice treat them equally.
So if mother cats have the ability, why didn't they distinguish between own and alien young in Experiment 1?
Lack of differentiation could have been due to the vocalization of the kittens outside the nest,
which would have several implications for a mother.
The basic function of separation cries is to elicit attentiveness and trigger care-giving behaviour.
Similarly to other species, in the domestic cat, kittens' vocalizations increase
the probability of the mother returning to and retrieving the young into the nest.
Therefore, the presence of a kitten crying near the nest might have had such a strong
motivational effect on the mothers that it overrode other sensory cues and the mother's need to discriminate.
From an ecological perspective, a kitten crying outside the nest might pose a threat to
the whole litter by attracting predators and hence requires rapid intervention by the mother.
As a solitary animal, if a cat mother encounters a kitten outside her nest, it is most likely her own.
Even if the mother detects that a kitten is not hers, it could be advantageous for her
to rapidly retrieve—and therefore silence—any crying kitten outside her nest.
The contribution of this study
This is the first study on mother–offspring olfactory recognition in solitary-living species.
Furthermore, clarified some gaps of knowledge in this field.
For example, future research should investigate the mechanism by which cat mothers discriminate
between own and alien offspring
or the possible source of the odours which makes the kittens distinguishable.
