Bonjour tout le monde and welcome back to Musings of a Fox! This week's video is
tackling plus-size boudoir. I hope serves as a sort of guide for those
who are interested in boudoir photography but feel for some reason
that maybe boudoir isn't right for them or they don't have the body type for
boudoir or all sorts of different hang-ups they might have. I'm here to
tell you that you absolutely are meant for boudoir.
One of my wedding day presents to my now husband Joel was a book I had made of
a boudoir shoot done for me by my maid of honor
Victoria HungerHurst of Dungee media on my wedding day or more like the night
before all my bridesmaids really wanted to check it out because most of them had
only really heard of boudoir copy but hadn't really seen what it looks like I
don't say an on model and and talking with one of my closest friends I realize
it might be helpful if I talk about my experiences with boudoir but in the form
of a guide at least it's like come on boys serve as a useful guide for you
when deciding is boudoir photography is right for you hint it it is my first tip
for anyone who's considering boudoir photography is you have to define sexy
for yourself I think a lot of people hear the term boudoir photography and
things that they need to be as scantily clad as possible as dumb as possible and
in certain specific closes that evoke maybe an old Hollywood film style but
the true definition of boudoir comes from an old French word for a private
room so how do you address boudoir exactly if you feel comfortable in a
private room of your own whatever that means to you because this was intended
as a gift for my been Beyonce now husband I decided that I wanted to use
input on the shoot he knew it was happening it we had planned to do the
shoot while on our Co bachelor/bachelorette getaway so you
kind of have to tell the guys you're going with that they need to be locked
in a room for an hour to two hours while you and your maid of honor run around a
rented cabin half-naked taking photos okay anyway so I know that Joel is not
an over-the-top really creepy lingerie type so I said to hand here hand in my
laptop and I gave him to lingerie anyone calm lingerie because I actually we
ended up ordering from torrid so and I'm the laptop and said okay you pick what
you want to see we have open honest communication I wasn't scared of what
you pick plus that way or control what we both felt comfortable showing and not
on camera the most important thing about bridge bar is that it's personal a house
would mean something to you and the version you may intend to give these
photos to so maybe that means fancy underwear
it means no underwear maybe it means fully clothed boudoir is about
sensuality not about blatant erotic sexy you know sweaty person and in a hyper
sexualized setting spot sensuality and that means something different to
everyone so whatever you feel conveyed your sexuality and your sensuality is
exactly what the boudoir shoot should look like
disclaimer know we're in this guide will you find tips on how to diet and
exercise for a boudoir shoot I'm telling you right now that your body is a
hundred percent boudoir ready as it is right this second now you just need the
right photographer to capture you one of my most important tips that I'm really
diehard on is find a photographer with plus-size clients in their portfolio it
is possible that your preferred photographer does not have any plus-size
boudoir clients in their portfolio this is not uncommon demands on who is reach
out to run or what their previous clients have said they can and cannot
share online or on social media about their shoot but if the photographer has
beautiful plus-size clients proudly on display you can be sure that they know
the intricacies of shooting a plus-size body here's a rough reality when
researching professional photographer all body types photograph differently
now I am not about to get into discussion of what I feel is really
loaded controversial words flattering if your photographer is used to working
with short to average height client the same angles are not going to work on a
taller client if they try to use the same angles it's going to end up looking
like a Godzilla inspired shoot the same guideline applies to different body
types now again my photographer was my maid of honor and she was also one of
the photographer's on my very first engagement shoot my very first I mean by
the time I got married I had about three engagement you so I had full confidence
that she would photograph me with sensitivity respect and honesty the
photos from the shoot are 100% my body there is not one month or
one roll that has been photoshopped trust me
while mass media may not find all these photos to be flattering there my body
which I wholeheartedly loved and so does the person who these photographs were
intended for buying a photographer with plus-sized clients in their portfolio is
important across all types of photography when my husband and I were
looking for our wedding photographer because Victoria was serving as our maid
of honor her second shooter is my bride space pretty much I hired all my
favorite photographers to be in my wedding party so I couldn't hire them
because that was good planning but luckily we found our wedding
photographer now when I was looking through her galleries I didn't quite see
people with similar or larger body types to mine but I wasn't worried because the
way she captured her subjects just emitted light and love and exactly the
emotions you hope to capture on such an important day one of the first issues
you ran into is that our photographer is much shorter than my husband's 511 and
my 5/8 plus the 4-inch heels I decided would be a great idea to wear during our
engagement shoot and she was typically used to shooting from a lower angle a
lower angle on plus-sized bodies let's just say unfortunately the end result is
our first engagement shoot was not what we wanted luckily for Jill and I our
wedding photographer is an incredible person and we were able to have an open
and honest discussion about the shoot and we both agreed that we had some
research to do her on angles and me on posing she also graciously and
generously offered to do a reshoot and the results were absolutely magical and
the photos from our wedding even more so but this is a very special
situation we have time on our side we have time for learning experiences and
to do the research when you're doing a one-off shoot like boudoir you only get
the one shot and you both have to be on the same page so you can go in feeling
confident that your photographer knows how to best convey the view
your body type then you're already far ahead in the game my first suggestion
practice if you're trying hair and makeup as outside your normal routine
don't be afraid to practice unless your day job is underwear or bathing suit
model this shirt is going to be awkward it's going to feel awkward posing in
your skivvies and owning your sexuality for possibly the first time on camera if
possible practice your hair and makeup as many times it takes it to get to feel
normal and take a bunch of selfies learn your angles for yourself learn how you
feel you pose best like me if you are doing falsies for maybe the fifth time
in your life outside a musical theater learn how to bat those falsies without
gluing your eyes shut even working in new hair cell can be cumbersome when
you're trying to do sensual or artistic poses if you're not used to having
voluminous curls and you're used to having your hair up in a bun you're
going to have different head movements and those are good to practice I have a
penchant when curling my hair to look like the Beast and his makeover scene
before the big dance scene with Belle so I made sure that the day of the shoot I
had practice having loose wavy hand combed pearls rather than fresh type
ringlets I decided to do my own makeup for the shoot was getting plenty of time
before our trip to practice that perfect level of dewy skin
what ironer was going to not sweat off what would she look natural but not like
I forgot to put anything on if you're serious about the makeup that I work for
my boudoir shoot next week's video will actually be my first ever negative
tutorial on this channel doing that makeup for you make sure you hit the
subscribe button so you don't miss it I'm not going to make sure you're as
comfortable as possible during your shoot is to meet your photographer
before the big day try to meet them for coffee and get to know their personality
again I know my photographer was my maid of
honor and one of my best friends so it still don't make it not awkward to be in
my underwear especially during some of the more sexy
both it but you know what helps cut the awkward
music music that makes you feel good the music you can't help but start shaking
it - that is perfect for a photo shoot whatever makes you comfortable and
forget that the camera / anyway also music is a great inspiration when you
feel like you're stuck in the same coated Co shots are great in boudoir but
if you got good music going you're going to get the most beautiful candid that
you wouldn't expect photos of you laughing or is if you just feel in the
moment but without something to cut the tension might come off more stiff the
other burger music no one can hear it in the photos so black betim seeing the
battery boys of Spice Girls whatever gets you shakin it my last suggestion on
comfort is you might go into this thinking you know exactly what you want
to wear thinking that it is a day comes you'll be ready to throw up the robe and
stand there in your bronze penny may be that might not be actually how you end
up feeling it's always good to pack a plan B maybe it's a robe maybe it's a
sheer wrap anything that lets you start to take off the layers at your own pace
don't rush yourself you need the time to feel comfortable in your own skin and
plus this adds a beautiful element the Rifa tog refer will know how to take
your shyness and turn you into the most irresistible cook pet all right so my
fourth tip is do your research and know what you want
while the main goal of this shoot was to have an incredible one-of-a-kind gift
for my husband on our wedding day not every shot was meant to be scintillating
I also wanted photos that captured for me how excited I was to become a wife I
wanted some photos that I could post publicly to advocate people to realize
how beautiful they are and treat themselves digital luxurious kind of
shoot for your demanding attention for yourself and saying I'm beautiful look
at me and maybe your words a little bit of
worship because I was focused on true the shoot was for I feel my excitement
and my confidence radiates in every photo I
owned it I was in there let any second slip feeling like I wasn't worthy of the
attention I was getting and now I have these amazing intimate shots meant to
the most exclusive of eyes but also some incredible photos that can post
advocating for self love and body positivity I also discussed with my
photographer what she had in mind for the shoot knowing to do the adventure I
knew that she was going to want to blend the beauty of the human body and the
beauty of nature and since we had rented a fairly remote cabin we took some shots
outside thankfully we never had to see those neighbors again fYI pebbles hurt
your touch but they make some killer shots don't forget you ultimately
control what the shoot looks like your photographer is just there to capture
the ride this leads me to my final and most important guidelines set rule from
what you're wearing or not wearing the positive you do and don't want and also
what you're comfortable lanes of joggers post after the shoot these rules will
help you feel like you're in control in the most vulnerable circumstances the
thing is your shoot is going to be incredible and if you're a photographer
social media savvy they're going to want to show you off so it's a good idea to
discuss the forehead what your rules are for posting the photos after this is
necessary to make sure it's in the contract I said a rule with Victoria to
not post any full body shots but that close-up and chest up shots and certain
shots that we had agreed on that technically our full body shot but are
actually close up chest up here I'll put that one here these kind of shots I feel
are more art and beauty than downright eroticism alright I said many times this
shoot was a gift sure my husband and therefore I want the most intimate shots
kept for his eyes only even in making this video and the blog I took into
consideration his feelings on what he was comfortable
Green to the Internet but I made sure to tell her that if she gets a plus-sized
client who isn't feeling confident in films he doesn't think that it's right
for them she is more than welcome to privately share those photos with them
so they can see that everybody is beautiful and everyone can do boudoir I
also want to make sure they see the care and compassion but she puts into her
work the most important died rule that I can leave you with is this shoot is what
you want it to be all these ostriches of youth aren't subjective they means
different things to different people so whatever beautiful sensual sexy means
to you boundary you should make this shoes not what anyone or Instagram or
Pinterest tells you what boudoir is this is your moment and what you want to
express between you and a possible partner but all these versions of
confidence Beauty sensuality are worthy of being documented on that note thank
