Buying a new car is a major purchase — and an exciting one.
Congratulations!
Don't forget to think about your insurance needs.
The coverage you had on your previous vehicle may not be sufficient for your new car.
New car replacement coverage is one type of optional coverage you may want to consider.
You may choose to purchase this in addition to the coverage you are required to buy.
Most lenders typically require comprehensive and collision coverage.
These coverages help pay to replace a totaled car, but they factor in depreciation.
Due to depreciation, your new car loses value as soon as you drive it off the lot.
Say you bought a new car for $25,000.
Shortly after, your car was totaled in a covered collision.
Your collision coverage would pay up to the car's depreciated value — for example, $20,000.
That wouldn't be enough money to buy the same brand-new car that costs $25,000.
But, if you had new car replacement coverage, you would be able to replace your totaled
car with a new one of the same or similar make, model and equipment.

I usually don't do car stereo but in my quest to get reasonable sound quality in my
car, I found a solution you - as music lover - might also like as an alternative for Bluetooth:
Airplay uncompressed.
This was the problem I had: with my new car, would I go for A2DP Bluetooth or just plug
the headphone output of my iPhone 6 into the audio input of my car stereo.
A2DP Bluetooth was the third option but on my car the upgrade was relatively expensive
while the SBC codec of the A2DP Bluetooth protocol - the one used for stereo audio - didn't
appeal to me.
Not that it would be a bad codec, to judge that I would have had to evaluate it thoroughly.
But the idea that the AAC coded music on my iPhone was decoded to be coded again in SBC
wasn't a nice one.
Two different codecs, both having their own rules for throwing away information, might
lead to a very unpleasant sound, as research had shown already years ago.
So I chose the option to use cables - for a short while.
Not the most attractive option either since I had to run wires from the glove box to the
iPhone.Then I thought I might be able to program a Raspberry Pi as a Wifi access point and
install Shairpoint, a program to let the Raspberry Pi function as an Airplay station.
Googling for a ready to use image that did just that, I came across the Nexus Linka.
The Linka measures about 85 x 50 x 15 millimetre and weighs about nothing, slightly over 50
grams.
On one end two cables come out, one ending in a USB connector for powering and one in
a 3.5 millimetre jack that does the audio output.
There are no controls apart from a reset button hidden behind a very tiny hole.
The second hole holds the blue status led of which the manual only says that it will
blink when functioning.
Just stick the USB plug into a USB power socket in the car and the audio jack into the Aux
input of your car stereo.
In my case the aux in is in the glove box, together with a 12 volt cigaret lighter socket.
So I had to use an adapter to the 5 volts USB socket.
Since the power socket in the glove box is switched on and off by the ignition key, the
Linka is automatically switched on and off too.
When switched on it takes about 7 seconds to boot after which a Wifi access point becomes
available.
You simply log your smartphone on to it and - in the music player program you use - select
it as Airplay station.
Since Airplay uses lossless compression, no quality is lost by another codec.
According to the manufacturers information it is also possible to connect with an Android
phone and use DLNA for playback.
There are also programs that enable airplay on Android devices.
Convenience wise the Linka isn't as comfortable as Bluetooth A2DP.
Where Bluetooth automatically connects and even starts playback, with the Linka you do
need to start the player and select the Linka as Airplay output.
But since it boots within seven seconds, it's probably ready before you have buckled up.
On the other hand, only the music playing is heard over the car speakers and not the
bleeps and other sounds a smartphone might make.
For phone calls you can still use the car's bluetooth and the Navigon software I use also
uses Bluetooth for driving instructions.
Since I only wants to use it in the car, I didn't try it on one of the stereo setups
I normally use.
Although you could link the Linka to your home wifi network, it is intended to be used
as access point.
In the car the unit surprised my since it sounded more open and better in control than
the iPhone's headphone output connected over a cable to the same aux in.
That might sound strange but a headphone output is not necessarily the best to drive a line
input as where the Wolfson WM8988 DAC chip used offers proper line outputs.
Some say that the DAT causes the better sound.
Of course if the DAC isn't good, the sound would be bad.
But the difference between the DAC in the iPhone and the Linka can't cause such a
difference.
There are no hick-ups or other nasties, it works stable and sounds great.
Is this a true review??
No.
I just came across a good solution for in my car and thought it would be nice to share
since I like it.
It was the only device I could find, but there might be others around and they might even
be better and for less money.
But at just under 90 euros I find it a very fine solutions.
There are people that don't like the fact the Wifi access is not password protected.
Others might not like the fact that you have to switch over the iPhone to the Linka.
But who will break into the Linka, what damage can be done and how much trouble is it to
tap the Airplay icon and select the Linka?
It does improve the sound in the car compared to using the headphone output.

Consumer Reports 2018 Least Reliable Cars - Duration: 3:08.
When you buy a new car, the last thing you want to think about
are future repairs, but an unscheduled trip to the shop
may come sooner than you might expect.
In our annual reliability survey,
CR subscribers tell us what went wrong on their cars.
This year, our survey included reports
on more than 640,000 vehicles.
These are the five new vehicles that have the lowest predicted
reliability for 2018.
The Ford Fiesta makes our list for problems
that owners reported with the climate
system and transmission.
One Fiesta owner said that the automatic climate system would
stop blowing cold air and that it
had become a recurring problem.
Early clutch replacement for the dual
clutch automatic transmissions were common repairs.
Some owners even had to have their transmissions completely
rebuilt.
Ford Focus owners know transmission troubles
all too well.
This compact car lands on our list
for the second year in a row.
A number of drivers said that their Focus
would buck and stutter, especially when starting out.
Rough, erratic shifts were also common, even
at normal driving speeds.
Many owners also had to replace the clutch prematurely.
Next up is the Volvo XC90, one of three luxury
SUVs on our list.
The problem-- Volvo's complicated touch screen
infotainment system.
Drivers tell us that the system is slow to load
and constantly requires rebooting.
There were also cases where the entire screen went blank
during reboot.
This would block owners from climate controls,
audio and phone functions, and accessing safety feature menus.
Once again, the Cadillac Escalade makes our list.
The luxury SUV had tech issues both under the hood
and in the cabin.
Owners told us Cadillac's CUE infotainment system
had more than a few faults.
They said the system would freeze or crash,
and the climate system would turn on to the highest setting
without any user input.
Power train problems range from irregular
idling rough shifts and even total transmission failure.
The least reliable car in our survey
is the Tesla Model X. The all electric SUV has
many cutting edge features, but owners we surveyed
had trouble with the most basic functions,
like opening and closing the falcon wing doors.
Drivers reported that a sensor malfunction wouldn't
allow the doors to fully open.
One owner claimed to have had the sensors checked eight times
before it was properly fixed.
Fit and finish also caused concern.
Loose exterior moldings and body misalignment
were common, along with latch failures on multiple doors.

For some people, their favorite car brand
is like their favorite sports team.
They stick by them, win or lose.
But how do you know if you can count on your favorite car
brand?
Consumer Reports is here to help.
Our annual reliability survey covers over 640,000 vehicles
owned by CR subscribers.
Brand rankings are based on the average predicted
reliability scores of an automaker's entire model
line-up.
This year, our survey compared 27 manufacturers,
and we saw significant movement among the rankings.
Once again, Toyota and Lexus take the top two positions
respectively, although they swapped spots from last year.
The sister companies continue to uphold their reputations
for giving owners solid reliability.
Nearly all models from these two brands
have average or above average scores,
with the exception of Toyota's Tacoma pickup, which
is below average.
Kia breaks into the top three, jumping two spots
from last year.
The move comes thanks to the success of the all-new Niro
hybrid.
It's not only Kia's most reliable model.
It's also the most reliable new car in our entire survey.
This year's biggest jump though goes to Chrysler,
climbing 10 spots on our list.
It's improved ranking is due to the all new Pacifica
minivan, which earns an average reliability rating.
Other Fiat-Chrysler brands like Jeep, Dodge, and Ram
also showed improvement.
However, Chrysler still sits in the bottom half of our ranks
as the spotty reliability of its 300 sedan
dropped to below average this year.
In fact, it wasn't a great year for any American automaker.
Buick remains the top-ranked American brand in our survey,
but the company dropped five spots,
landing eighth on our list.
Ford was second best among the Americans,
but only managed to secure the 15th spot overall.
All brands from General Motors dropped as well,
especially Cadillac, which has the worst predicted reliability
for any brand in 2018.
All of their models are below average.
And the big, expensive Escalade SUV
is one of the least reliable models
for a second year in a row, according to our subscribers.
European brands fared better and were generally more reliable.
Audi and BMW kept their top 10 rankings,
while both Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen climbed up
the charts.
We can't say the same for Volvo.
The company's XC90 SUV has been riddled
with infotainment problems.
XC90 owners who responded to our survey
echoed that feeling, which placed it
among the least reliable new cars for 2018.
