How to Make and Respond to Phone Calls Using Java 8 and Spark - Duration: 6:08.

This Java Voice Quickstart covers both inbound and outbound

voice calls. We're going to be using the code from

a Guide you can find in the Twilio Docs. There are links down in the description

if you want to follow along. To make a phone you need a phone number, so let's

go get one.

We'll start in the Phone number console and I'll search for a

267 area code number and I'll buy the

first Philadelphia area number I find. I'll click Buy This Number,

and then Setup Number. We'll come back to phone number setup later.

Let's start by talking about outbound calls. Your app

makes a POST request to Twilio. Twilio places a call

to your phone. When the call is connected, Twilio

requests some TwiML instructions from your application.

If the TwiML looks like this, then Twilio speaks some text

back to your phone. Let's write some code to make that work.

I'm using Eclipse and inside of Eclipse I'll create a new Gradle project

that I'll call MakeAndReceiveCalls.

We'll click Finish and once that's done

being set up we'll open the build.gradle file

where we can specify the dependencies for our project.

The first dependency that we need is a

logging framework called slf4j

that the Spark web framework uses under the hood.

Then we'll pull in the Spark web framework

itself that we'll use for handling POST requests.

And then we'll pull in the Twilio

helper library. Once the dependencies are

specified we can refresh the Gradle project which will bring them in

to the project. Now we'll create

a new class that we'll place in a package called com.twilio

that we'll call MakeCall

and I'll give it a main function. Inside

of MakeCall.java the first thing we need to do is import some

namespaces. We need the URI and

URISyntaxException classes as

well as the Twilio. Call, and PhoneNumber objects

from the Twilio helper library. Our main function

could throw a URISyntaxException so we'll specify

that there. Then we need some credentials

from our Twilio account. Namely, we need

the Accountsid and the AuthToken that we use to authenticate

our Twilio account. You can find those inside of the Twilio

Console. These values will look something like this

but I've got these stored in environment

variables for safe keeping so let's get them from there instead using

System.getenv(). I'll pull the Twilio_ACCOUNT_SID

and the TWILIO_AUTH_TOKEN out of my environment.

Next we'll use those 2 credentials

to initialize the Twilio REST client

passing in the ACCOUNT_SID and the AUTH_TOKEN. Now

we're ready to create that outbound call so we'll use

Call.creator(). This is gonna take a couple of phone numbers as

parameters. The first one is going to be the To phone number

and that's going to be my phone number which I have stored

inside of an environment variable as well so we'll pull

that in. Then,

the second phone number that it's going to take is going to be the Twilio

phone number that we purchased earlier in the Phone Number Console so I'll

paste that in.

The last thing we need here is

a URI. This is going to be some TwiML so

this is going to be demo.twilio.com/docs/voice.xml

This TwiML will execute when the call

is connected. Finally, we'll call create on

the creator and we will print out

to the console the call's ID

when it connects just so we know it was connected.

We'll save it and we'll give our project

a Run and a call will be placed

to my cellphone.

to see how that happened. There's a <Say> that does

text-to-speech and reads out "Thanks for trying our documentation. Enjoy!"

and then a <Play> tag that plays that lovely

classic Rickroll MP3.

Now let's talk about inbound calls. A user places

a phone call to your Twilio number. Twilio makes an HTTP request

to your app which returns some TwiML and if the TwiML looks like

this, then Twilio speaks some text back

to the user. Let's write the server code to make that happen.

We'll spin up our server.js file and

To handle our

inbound call we'll create a new Java class called

ReceiveCall and we'll give it a main function

as well. We'll import the

Spark web framework's post() function

so that we can create a POST route for Twilio to reach out to.

And then we'll pull in the Say and VoiceResponse objects

from the Twilio helper library's TwiML classes.

Now we'll create a POST route called receive-call

and in here we'll create a VoiceResponse

object which will hold the TwiML that Twilio will reach out for

when the call is connected. We'll use the

VoiceResponse.Builder and create a Say

response. This'll do text to speech and

it'll read out "Hello from your pals at Twilio. Have fun!"

We'll give that a build() and then we'll build()

the response builder. And then we'll

return the XML representation of our

VoiceResponse since TwiML is just XML.

We'll run the project and you'll see that it fires up on

localhost:4567. Twilio can't

reach localhost:4567 so we'll use ngrok

to create an HTTP tunnel to port 4567

to get a publicly addressable URL that we can take

to the Phone Number Console and paste in where it says "A call comes in"

webhook and add /receive-call. Once we

save the phone number, I can pull out my cellphone and

make a call back to our Twilio phone number

so that we can here that text-to-speech response from Twilio.

Kulfi is a very popular Indian dessert which can be made in various flavours

Today I'm going to make Paan Kulfi

This paan kulfi is digestive and works as a mouth freshener too

Lets see ingredients required to make Paan Kulfi

For this we'll need

Full cream milk - 1 litre

Milk Powder - 1/2 cup

Cashew Nuts - 15 , chopped

Fennel Seeds Powder - 1/2 tsp

Green Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp

Almonds - 15, blanched and chopped

Betel Leaves - 3

Gulkand (Rose Petel Preserve) - 1 tbsp

Sugar - 2 tbsp

Pistachio - 1 tbsp, chopped

Lets start making paan kulfi

Add milk in a non stick pan

Turn on the gas and let it cook

I have washed these betel leaves, now I'll grind them into a paste

First we'll cut them into small pieces

Now I'll grind them

You can also do it in a mixer / blender

Milk has boiled, we'll cook it till it get reduced to half. Keep stirring it often.

We have made paste of betel leaves

Milk has been reduced to half

Add milk powder to the milk

Mix it and cook for another 1 minute

Add sugar, cardamom powder, fennel seed powder and dry fruits

Mix well

Turn off the gas

Let it cool down

It has came to room temperature

You can use khoa instead of milk powder too

Fennel seeds are good for digestion

Now add gulkand

Add betel leaves paste

We have not added supari that is generally used in paan

We have used dry fruits instead

Mix well

Gulkand gives it a very nice aroma and flavour

You can adjust the amount of sugar as needed

Now pour this condensed mixture in the kulfi molds

We'll put these wooden sticks in kulfi after 2 hours when the kulfi is little set

You can use moulds of any shape or size

Lets put these moulds in deep freezer

After 2 hours put the sticks in the kulfi. It will take around 8-10 hours to complete set the kulfi.

Its been 10 hours, lets check our kulfi

Dip the kulfi mould in water and gently pull it out

It is looking very nice

Similarly we can take out all the kulfi

Its a great dessert as well as mouth freshener

It contains paan, fennel seeds, green cardamom

These all are very refreshing

Paan kulfi has turned out great

You can make it as a dessert for parties, special occasions or kids

I have used non fat milk powder in this

All the ingredients used here are natural and healthy

Mental Health Month - Make a Difference! - Duration: 5:59.

Hello, Ashford. My name is Ben Gothia and this is Promoting Awareness and Wellness in Students. Each May, under the theme of Mental Health Month, the mental health community works collectively

to raise awareness of mental health impacts and combat barriers to access.

To help us understand a bit more about this month, important factors in recognizing and

treating mental health impacts, and the role that each of us can play in supporting our

community, we reached out to Dr. Stephen Brewer, Ashford Faculty and a licensed Psychologist.

Welcome to PAWs.

Dr. Brewer: Mental Health Awareness Month really is about

increasing awareness about mental health issues, ending stigma, and ensuring that we are providing

support to those who are encountering mental health issues, both the individual themselves,

and the friends and family around those people.

Ben: Recognizing that Dr. Brewer is a trained mental health professional and licensed psychologist,

we asked him to tell us about some of the primary factors that can exacerbate, or trigger,

mental health conditions?

Dr. Brewer: There are actually several factors and on

multiple levels, typically we first start off with the biological level, the stuff that

happens in your body, a lot of times that stuff, you can't really control without directed

interventions, either from a mental health professional or from your medical doctor.

This is why, as a psychologist, whenever I'm doing an intake, I always ask the patient

whether they have had recent bloodwork done, and a recent physical.

That's really the first step in any treatment, at least in my practice.

Then we go on to more of the social triggers.

These could happen with friends, family, anybody surrounding the individual.

There, we are talking about stressors; these could be behaviors that firnds or family could

think of as completely normal; they think they are actually helping the person who is

suffering from a mental health issue.

In fact, a lot of these times, when people are doing these things, are actually making

things worse.

For example, shaming somebody.

Making them feel guilt.

Criticizing that person; one may think that we are trying to help them by motivating them.

A lot of times, especially for someone who is depressed, these three things can make

them quite a bit worse.

Ben: Whether for ourselves, a family member, or a friend, Dr. Brewer offers his input on

knowing when it's time to get help?

Stephen Brewer: It's a difficult question, because there are

different thresholds for mental health issues and how they affect us.

Some people experience significant trauma and still go through life, unaffected.

Whereas other people will experience a small trauma, relatively small trauma, and they

will be affected quite a bit.

So typically, when we are talking about whether a mental health issue is affecting a person's

life, we are talking about whether it's interfering with their ability to work, or their ability

to maintain a life outside of work.

That means having friends, having a relationship, being in touch with family.

Those sorts of things.

If either of those two things are impacted significantly, then there is probably a mental

health issue going on that needs some sort of professional help.

Ben: With access to treatment being an issue many face, how can we help those who are struggling

to know they are not alone?

Stephen Brewer: One of the best things you can do for somebody

who is struggling with a mental health issue and you want to, you want to help them out

in some way.

Provide support, don't try to fix them.

Don't try to do anything to change them.

Just provide support.

Be a listening ear, someone that they can vent to, and through that support, you can

nudge them in the way of suggesting that they see a professional about their problems.

And that's really the best that anybody out there can do for somebody who's affected by

a mental health condition.

Ben: As an instructor at Ashford University, we asked Dr. Brewer for some observations

that would lead him to reach out and offer additional support.

Stephen Brewer: In the online modality where our only interactions

with students occur in discussion forms, or emails, or through the assignments that students

turn in, it can be very difficult to determine whether there is a mental health issue going

on that would need some sort of intervention.

There are a few signs that you could look out for.

One would be an overt signal for help; that would be the student asking, 'Hey, can I get

some help on this?

I've just lost a family member,' or, 'I've gone through a divorce,' or any number of

traumatic things a person might go through.

You might also watch out for students withdrawing.

Let's say that students are active in weeks 1 and 2, and then all of a sudden in week

3, a student drops off the face of the planet.

That could be a signal to check in.

Or students, if you are listening to this and you have a suspicion that one of your

fellow students is going through a tough time, email your instructor first to let them know.

Because sometimes these things can escape us, and we really rely on multiple sources

of information to make these kinds of determinations and conclusions.

and I'm sure you can think of some other

creative ideas to do at the very end

My name is Craig and this here is...

And today, Elliot and I are going to be making dice and Elliot is going to help by speaking

French for us along the way, so we hope you join us for that and...

Elliot - Let's get started.

Let's get started!

So here are our cubes that we made, our 3D paper cubes.

We have our paper strips, or scrap paper torn up into little pieces and we've prepared our

glue mixture with some white glue and some water.

And now we need to cover our cubes with papier-mâché.

What do we do?

Elliot - We put it in the glue and we take it out.

Then we get it off with the fingers.

Then we put it on.

Do you want to try explaining that in French?

Elliot - D'abord on met le papier dans la colle.

Après on essuie la colle avec les doigts.

Et après on colle dessus.

So not only do you get to learn how to make awesome dice with us,

but you also learn a little bit of French.

What could you do Elliot if you have too much glue on your box?

The next step is to paint them.

to about the size of a small circle.

and I thought it would be really fun to start off the month by doing an improvised song

based on today

so i spent some time in the rain

walkin' around, kinda got a melody

worked on it a little bit, went for a walk

came back

and i just recorded it.

It's not a perfect song, but it

shows the process of sort of

how ideas come together

a lot of times people ask me how i take an idea that i have and turn it into a song

i thought i would share a process that i use a lot

which is just c'mon in, write a song

improvise, think of the lyrics quickly

have them flow out in a melody, and use that as a template

to work on a song further, or just use it

as an exercise. I hope you enjoyed this video and
