hey guys this is Aakarsh and this video I'm going to teach you about how to get
started with a ukulele so I bought this instrument about a month ago
and I had a lot of trouble starting with it so I took help from youtube and I
watched a lot of tutorials and they all have a different way of teaching and
after going through a lot of them I realized that how much they all confuse
you and trust me this is a really easy instrument to get a hold on and you are going
to enjoy playing it a lot so I wanted to make much easier and simpler tutorial
about the basics of ukulele which are going to include a few strumming
patterns a few chords and a song too so let's get started now different people
strum differently and the most basic way to strum is to use your index finger
to both strumming downwards and upwards to strum downwards use the nail of your
index finger and to strum upwards use the flesh of your index finger this area
it goes like this and the second way to strum is to use again the nail of your
index finger to strum downwards and to use nail of your thumb to strum upwards
this is the way that I use myself
and the last way to strum is to use all of your fingers to strum downwards and
the nail of your thumb to strum upwards
try all of these ways of strumming and choose the one you find most suitable
and to practice strumming do four downward Stokes and four upward strokes till you
get hold on it start practicing by looking at the uke and doing it
and keep doing it till you can do it without looking at the ukulele
now let's move on to our second step which is the strumming pattern
there are way too many strumming patterns and if you have watched other
YouTube videos they are going to waste a lot of your time starting with down down
down and up up up so I'm gonna straight ahead start with the strumming patterns
that you are going to use the most and once you get a hold of them you can make your
own strumming patterns so the down strokes are indicated with D the up the strokes
indicated with U and tap is indicated with T so the first
pattern that I'm going to teach you is down down up up down there's a break in
between them down down up goes together and up down goes together they're just a little bit
of break in between them so it goes like this
practice this slowly start it slowly
the second pattern is the same you just have to add one up stroke in the en d it
is down down up up down up and again there's a little bit of break between
down down up and up down up it goes like this
practice it slowly
and the third pattern is down up tap down up tap there's just a little bit of break in
between them when you tap, you have to press your hand just on all the strings
and on the uke so it makes a tap sound like this it goes like this now all you
have to do to get a hold of them is practice practice and practice but always
practice the strumming patterns with the chords and it will help you pull them
together in a sequence and you find it easier to change the chords and you'll
get used to it faster so let's move towards our final lesson which is the
chords so let's start with our final lesson because but before you start with
it I want you to practice the strumming pattern down down up up down as we will
use it to test the chords
so the first chord that I'm going to teach you is the F chord and to be able to
play the F chord put your second finger on the second fret of the fourth string and
your first finger on the first fret of the third string and it will sound like
this and on strumming pattern down down up up down up it'll sound like this then
the second chord that I'm going to teach you is the A chord you just have to
remove your index finger in the F chord you just have to press the second fret
of the first string with your second finger and it will sound like this and
on the pattern down down up up down up it'll sound like this
the third chord might seem pretty difficult to play but trust me once you
get used to it you will play it like anything so to play the third chord
which is the D chord. D minor to play it you have to use your index finger and
place it on the first fret of third string your second finger on the second fret of
the first string and your third finger on the second fret of the second string
it will sound like this and with the strumming pattern down down
up up down up it'll sound like this
and the last chord that I'm going to teach you is the C chord and to play C
chord you just have to press the third fret of the fourth string with your third finger
and it will sound like this. And with the strumming pattern down down up up
down up it will sound like this
now keep practicing these chords and now we will use all of these chords together in
the same sequence

And C
Now lets play all of these together
now let's start with the song that I'm going to teach you
It's young dumb broke by Khalid and we are going to use the same chords and
in the same sequence. You have to use each chord twice
the order is f A D C and you have to use each of the chord twice so it will sound
like this
you have to use it the same way in the whole song
