Welcome to the forestry minute

As we enter into another wildfire season

It is a good idea to make sure your driveway and woods roads can handle emergency vehicles

that means your driveway and roads need to be at least twelve feet wide

and be clear of branches and other obstacles up to fifteen feet high

If you can, create an open area near to your home and other structures to allow emergency vehicles to maneuver and turn around

If you have a long driveway or extensive road system,

then it is a good idea to widen them to twenty feet.

Additionally, you may want to take out any sharp turns and try to make it as level as possible.

Remember, the easier it is for fire fighting equipment to get into your property, the easier it will be for them to protect you home from oncoming wildfires
