[Music] For so many of us our car is our
lifeline, you need it for work, family, and
personal time.
It's like a family member
but what do you really know about it?
Today Designing Spaces presents Driving
Spaces and it starts right now.
[Music] So when I was younger my dad and
I would always work on cars and he'd
always brag about how much money he had
saved by doing himself.
What's this do?
That's a power steering reservoir,
I think it's on page 2.
Could you do me a
favor and flip that page sweetie?
I always told him when I grow up, I'm going to do the
same thing.
I'm going to follow in his footstep and do
everything myself.
Recently my dad actually got me a gift
he got me a Haynes manual and that's the
ones that he's to use when I was little.
So sentimental but also helpful they
have pictures, easy directions to
follow and actually feel kind of proud
of myself what I'm done with everything I
do.
Right there that's what I need
yes!
[Music] Hayne's has been providing
do-it-yourselfers with trusted step-by-step maintenance and
repair instructions that provide the
confidence and knowledge needed to perform
tasks.
From simple maintenance to repair
procedures, John Haynes begin publishing
Haynes manuals in 1960 from a modest
office on Regent Street in London UK, the
publishing business grew and expanded to
include how to maintenance and repair of
motorcycles, boats, ATVs, tractors, and more.
The principle on which we create the
manuals has always been the same since
the very beginning, they take the car you
take it apart you photograph it and then
through those photographs we're able to
help people look after, maintain and
repair their cars.
So in addition to our
print manuals, you can now find information as an online manual
or as our new service Hayne's on
Demand, which is a video based product which is a
task specific procedure allowing you
to just focus on the one repair that you
want to do on your vehicle.
All of it's compatible with all devices.
On the Haynes
website I found a bunch of free videos
that keep my car running smoothly and
functioning safely.
I honestly try to do
everything myself, tire pressure?
Looks's good.
I'm gonna go
ahead and check my oil.
You reinsert it
to see if it's out the indication line,
which it is, coolant level looks good.
I know my dad's gonna be really
proud of me.
So the next thing I'm going to do is
upgrade my headlights to brighter lights.
I've had this car since 2003 and I'd
never changed out the bulbs, so that's
what I'm gonna do today.
The Haynes video
said not to touch the bulb so I put on a
pair of gloves.
I'm just inserting it, turning it,
and be reattaching it.
It's actually very
simple once you follow step-by-step
directions.
Pop this in here and hear a
click, there it is, I love my car.
As a father of two young daughters I
looking forward to teaching them how to
look after their cars, and I believe
it's important that they have an
understanding of how the car works
because it gives them a sense of empowerment.
Here's an opportunity to
become familiar with Haynes by going to

channel Hanes manuals to see this again

Tires don't last forever, it isn't always
easy to know when you need new tires,
choosing the right ones can be even
trickier.
[Music] Luckily there's a few easy ways
to get both right, to see if you mean
your tires all you need is a quarter, turn
Washington upside down and insert him
into a groove if you can see the top of
his head you know you need new tires.
The amount
of tread left on your tires could affect
how quickly your vehicle stops especially in the rain or snow.
Here I have a 3D tread display that shows a
healthy, worn, and a bald tire.
Remember before if I showed you the trick
with the quarter?
If you turn it upside down
and you can see the top of Washington's
head, you know you need a replacing tires.
For the most accurate results visit your
auto dealer for a professional tire
tread inspection.
And for getting the right
tires, size is only a part of it, it is
actually possible to get the wrong tires
even if they fit, to find your car
specific requirements look inside the
vehicles driver side door jam.
At Right Turn dot com you get the
convenience of online shopping but without the
guesswork.
Right Turn shows you the tires
that meet or exceed safety and performance standards set by the
automakers.
Expert dealership installation is included and we
do deliver the tires to the
dealership for free.
So once you get new tires maintaining them will help you
get the most bang for your buck.
Proper tire
pressure is important for both vehicle
safety and tread life, we recommend that
you check this monthly and you should
keep your tires at the pressure shown on
the vehicle's tire information label.
Rotation and alignment will help your
tires last longer, stick to what's
recommended in your vehicle's owner's
manual.
Right Turn dot com has a great team
of tire experts that you can call or
chat with, weather to find the right
tires, care for your current ones, or
something as random as how do you turn
an old tire into a squirrel house?
Yes this is a question one of our
tire representatives has received
before.

Unfortunately accidents happen, oftentimes unpredictably but
keeping your car in shape is one way to
be as prepared as possible.
[Music] There are plenty of factors that
can contribute to an accident, but
when you really get down to it it's your
brakes that are your last line of
defense against a collision.
Adjusting or
replacing your brakes is part of standard vehicle maintenance but
not all brakes are created equal.
While your
original factory installed brakes were
designed for up to 50,000 miles of stops
an aftermarket brake pad could provide
you some extra stopping power when you
need it most.
So which brakes are best for you?
And where should you buy them?
All-in-one brake kits that improve brake
performance is priced right and comes
with everything you need in a box.
If you're not a mechanic and DIY is not
for you head to Power Stop dot com and
locate someone who can get the job
done.
New brakes are installed at an
authorized power stop installation service
center, today we're heading to Kovac
Automotive in Davie.
[Music.]
Brake technician Courtney McCray
removes the old brake so what we're installing today
is the power stop z23 evolution sport
brake upgrade kit, at the heart of the
kit is our carbon fiber ceramic pad
these are gonna be very low dust, no noise
and they're gonna add safety by
having more grip than the OE pads included
with every power stop kit our
upgraded stainless steel hardware we
include Pav Loup as well and we include
these zinc coated drilled and slotted
rotors that are gonna help keep your brakes
cooler and cleaner.
You won't have that unsightly rust everywhere.
The new pads are in place and the pad
assembly is installed.
I just finished installing the fire stop
upgrade brake kit on this side we're
gonna get ready to finish up and do the
other three.
From the installer standpoint we really enjoy
installing the power stop upgrade package,
it gives a consumer a better break, a
dust free brake, and absolutely no noise,
the customers love it, we love it,
it's a great product.
Outfitted and upgraded to
make sure they perform optimally you'll
want to break them in.
Once you've had
your brake pads installed the final step
is to have them bedded in or broken in
and what this does is provide the
maximum amount of friction between the
pad and the rotor.
And this is important
because it gives the mechanic a chance
to make sure your brakes are working
properly.
The break-in procedure applies
to all new replacement brakes.
If you have any questions about your
new brakes reach out to us at power stop
dot com using the support section a
performance brake upgrade assures better vehicular
performance and contributes to safety.
Buying a vehicle is exciting but it has
a stressful side.
I'm definitely ready
for a change in the car, I need more
space, I needed something a little bit
more modern with a few more features.
I have kids I don't want to spend
all day on a Saturday when I'm off at
the dealership and trying to find a
babysitter or lug my poor children to a
dealership and spend 8, 10 hours there.
Despite her situation, 95 percent of
potential car buyers visit 7 to 12
different websites before they visit a
dealership.
This takes a lot of time as
Katie is discovering.
My last experience
at buying a car was not great, which is
another reason why I haven't really made
the change even though we need to make a
change, really want this time to be
different.
She's got wheels dot com is a
complete auto shopping mall for women
when they are ready to find a new car.
Research, compare and find values, shop
for your vehicle, even finance in
purchase can all be done from one
website.
For my next car I'm really
looking for a lot more space I need more
room in the back for the kids for really
for all their stuff.
I mean I've got the
strollers, the backpacks, the soccer bag
so I really need a lot more space.
There are over two million cars for
you to shop on the website there's
simple step by step purchase procedure is an
industry-first plus there is an auto service
and repair directory with consumer reviews.
So here's one that I really liked I
found it's I think it's gonna fit
perfectly well I love the color it's a
little different than what I have now,
it's white it's got great interior
space, I love that it has a third row,
and all the great features for the kids,
like the screen in the back and they're
gonna love it for the road trips.
So you've
picked out and financed your car all
through she's got wheels dot com.
Now how do you actually get into your new
ride?
You go to a dealership and pick it
up.
So I found my car online and it's but
the best part was I got to do all my
financing ahead of time.
So I showed up to the dealership the car
was ready test drove it fell in love
with it and I got to bring it home
already.
Katie found her wheels, to get started on
your next vehicle visit she's got wheels
dot com and take a look.
This is it, this is
my car, this is my new baby, the best part
it is so easy.
[Music]
[music.]
Bye, mom I'll be safe I promise.
Please be careful, wear your seatbelt.
I have a 17
year old daughter and it was a very
nerve-wracking when she got her license,
but on the other hand it was very nice
to know that she was going to be able to
help me out, taking my son to football
practice, going to the grocery store but
it is very worrisome to have her out on
the road with the drivers.
I explained to
her I don't want you to go anywhere else
you go from point A to point B, call me
when you get there because I worry that
you know something would happen and she
wouldn't be able to contact me.
It's so awesome having my license
just having the freedom be able to go
anywhere and not rely on my parents to
take me places.
I go to the mall a lot
with my friends, I go to my friends
houses, to the park sometimes just to hang out.
I definitely think she's nervous about
me driving, especially on a day like this
when it's raining but I think she likes
it though because I can go run errands
for her and just make her life easier.
With t-mobile's new sink up drive Nicole
has everything she needs for peace of
mind, sink up drive is an app for the
road providing multiple features that
make driving your car safer and smarter.
It is very nice for her to be able to
have her freedom I want her to feel
independent I don't want her to think
I'm constantly watching her but at the
same time it does give me peace of mind
that I know that she's gotten somewhere
safely, even if she does forget to call
and let me know, I can just check it and
then I can be more relaxed I don't have
to worry about why I haven't heard from
her.
I know my mom has my back and she trusts me even more now
because she can see what a safe and
responsible driver I am now.
It's very nice to know
that I get a notification the second her
car starts ,and the second it stops as
well, and also I can watch her trip I can
see where she's going, what road she's on,
I can tell when she's speeding and when
she's driving recklessly and it's it's
kind of nice to be able to keep an eye
on her and and keep track of how she's
driving.
In addition to GPS tracking
t-mobile sync up drive has geofencing
this allows boundaries to be set you,
decide the limits.
She leaves that
boundary I get a notification not that I
think she's going to go beyond there but
it's nice to know that I will be notified if she does.
There's been times
where t-mobile sync up drive has saved
the day.
The car overheated.
Okay well did you call roadside assistance?
It's so simple that even my
mother-in-law uses it, help is on the way and it
was so simple with sync up drive, okay
we'll see you tomorrow then.
I'm so glad roadside assistance is
included with sync up drive, it's such a
help to my family.
So far so good this
situation is under control and all
vehicles are monitored, thanks to sync up
drive it's part of their real-time
vehicle and maintenance notifications.
Just last month we are getting ready for
a road trip we got a notification took it to
the mechanic and we were safely on
our way.
So Mia's at the mall with Kylie this
afternoon and I told the girls I would
take them to an early dinner, they asked
them to meet me at the restaurant at 6
o'clock so it's nice to be able to track
when she leaves the mall, when she's
gonna get there and not only do I know
she's safe, it's very helpful to coordinate our schedules.
Another feature is in our Wi-Fi the Wi-Fi
hotspot lets you connect to your laptop
tablets or other mobile devices to the
internet to be fully functional.
It's awesome my mom
was driving yesterday and I brought my
laptop in the car and I got my school
project done.
In car Wi-Fi is also great
for eliminating the age-old question
asked on every long car trip.
Are we there yet?
The passengers can always stay
connected and happily occupied.
For the kids it's such a great feature
to have the Wi-Fi for long trips they
can watch movies, play games even do their
homework.
It's really nice to know that the car is
fine but what's very important to me is
the moment she leaves the driveway, I can
keep track of her and know she's safe.
It's just your typical day for Nicole
and her family, they are staying connected and staying safe on
the road.
