Here's What Makes SM Entertainment Different from YG and JYP
As the popularity of idol groups continue to grow, the entertainment agencies that create and train them are becoming more and more competitive.
In order to distinguish themselves from others, each has found their own unique approach when it comes to producing strong idol groups.
While YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment prefer to hire domestic industry professionals, S.M.
Entertainment has opted to branch out and hire them from overseas, giving them unique sounds, choreographies, and album concepts.
SHINee was one of the first Korean groups to use overseas composers for their songs.
S.M.
Entertainment has hired several producers and composers from overseas to help them create a unique K-Pop sound.
Some overseas producing teams that have worked with S.M.
Entertainment include Teddy Riley, London Noise, and Divine Music.
Their first instance of hiring overseas musicians was in the late 2000s, with SHINee, f(x), Girls Generation, and TVXQ!.
Each group has its own distinct style mixed with elements of Korean pop and European pop and released title songs that were composed by foreign composers.
One reason hiring overseas producers and composers worked so well with S.M.
Entertainment is that it opened up a pathway to enter international markets.
Through hiring a professional in international music, S.M.
Entertainment was better able to understand the current trends and shape their music in a way that was appealing to an international audience.
BTS saw their popularity explode internationally partly due to their global music influences.
Due in part to S.M.
Entertainments breakthrough success in working with international composers, other mid-size agencies such as Big Hit Entertainment, Jellyfish Entertainment, and WM Entertainment began applying the same strategies for their own idol groups.
VIXX, under Jellyfish Entertainment, are kings of varying their sound as well as their concept.
This resulted in groups like BTS (Big Hit Entertainment), who have already gathered a huge international fanbase; VIXX (Jellyfish Entertainment), whose songs and album concepts are totally different with every new release; and Oh My Girl (WM Entertainment), whose first, second, and third mini-albums are almost entirely composed by overseas composers.
f(x)s 2012 single Electric Shock was almost entirely written and arranged by overseas producers.
While there are still many amazing domestic composers such as Shin Hyuk, Kenzie, Ryan S.
Jhun, their compositions are usually included as other tracks, while songs composed by overseas composers are released as title songs. However, S.M.
Entertainment has acknowledged that working with overseas professionals does not always guarantee success. If the artist group is incompatible with the piece that was written for them, it can result in a failed collaboration.
WMs Oh My Girl are just another group finding success with international producers.
According to an insider, S.M.
Entertainment has had countless encounters with overseas professionals whose compositions were incompatible with their artists, and thus suffered a great financial loss. YG Entertainments production and compositions are greatly influenced by Teddy, while JYP Entertainments songs tend to be by Park Jinyoung himself.
The different tactics of each agency have resulted in great music that is not only unique to each agency but has a varied and far-reaching sound that brings in audiences from all over the globe.

going to be talking about the six factors of men's style.
This is presented by Tanner Guzy.
If you're not familiar with Tanner, you're in for a treat.
He is one of the world's I think foremost thought leaders when it comes to men's style
and how to represent yourself with your clothing.
When I want to learn about men's style, I go to Tanner.
This guy is just amazing.
I've been privileged for the last four years for him to speak at my formerly StyleCon,
now Menfluential Conference.
This is a clip from his presentation.
I think you're going to just enjoy it.
It's going to open your mind to what is out there and how you can use style to send
the message you want to send.
And not necessarily hearing it from me, but from another guy with a different -- slightly
different point of view, different background.

He's got some of the best writing, but at the end of the day, I want you to get a taste

Tanner gave a great presentation, but what was amazing is after he was done with the
presentation, he came out and he hangout with everyone in the audience for two days.
And if you wanted to talk to Tanner more you wanted to talk to him about your particular
needs, he was there for you.
Without further ado, let's get into the presentation.
Tanner: Anybody used to do the ca – the cargo shorts with the flip flops?
Right?
How about any – any Bruce Campbell fans?
Right?
How many of you guys at some point in your life either had your dad dressed like this
or you dressed in like the younger version of what this is?
Right?
Yeah, I've been there.
And at some point we realized that this is inertia and this is mediocre.
We don't want to look like this.
We think that, well, it's not really consistent with what my aspirations are, I don't actually
try -- I don't accomplish the things I want to accomplish, people don't take me seriously,
dressing like this is not conducive to what my goals in my life are or it doesn't help
me with my ambitions.
The problem though is that most of the time we over correct and we go to something like
this.
Now, this is not bad and in fact, the context of this photo is great.
Any of you guys heard of Dapper Day at Disneyland?
Yeah.
So, this is – this is a shot from there where these guys they get dressed up out of
something from the 40's or the 50's or some other time, they all go to Disneyland,
they have a great time, they get dressed up.
But, I think one of the big problems that we have is we automatically assume that dressing
dapperly or dressing up is automatically better than dressing down or dressing casually.
It's an assumption that we based almost every single one of your esthetic decisions
off of and it's not a true assumption.
There are plenty of times when it is, but to treat that as a hard fast rule and as a
default means you're probably not dressing as well as you can just go over – you go
and you over correct it.
Now, one of the ways that I found to be really good to demonstrate what this actually looks
like is to understand that clothing is communication.
Right?
Easy, right?
Yeah.
And that's not new doctrine right there, everybody understands that clothing is communication,
but you think about it this way.
How many of you guys heard people complain that our language has gotten sloppy?
That people don enunciate, we use way too much slang, that the language has gone sloppy?
Right?
Yeah.
That's not a new thing.
And you see examples of this isn't necessarily a bad example, but what I show you at the
slide is going to be you'll be able to see the point that I'm trying to make with this.
Right?
We've all seen that before, we probably said that before.
My dad didn't talk that way.
And so, somebody may look at language like this and think, well, okay, it's really
short, you don't understand what it is.
I mean if you're not a native English speaker, you're not going to have any idea what something
like that means because our language continues to truncate itself and it gets lazier and
lazier.
But do we over correct and go to this?
Right?
[Laughs] Right?
How many of you guys are doing the esthetic equivalent of speaking Shakespearean English
with your clothing?
I've done that.
I've absolutely done that.
I thought, well, I'm not going to be this and the only way to not be this is to be this
and there's so much room in between those two, right?
So much room in between those two.
And you would never think I'm going to make the world a better place because I'm going
to speak like Shakespeare did.
Of course not.
You understand that that does not help you accomplish your goals, it's not going to
help you get in better with your tribe, it's not going to help you find the right woman
to marry, it's not going to help you get ahead of work, it's not going to do anything
other than make you a weirdo.
Right?
And, unfortunately, so much the time that is esthetically what we do because we're
communicating the exact same thing.
We go from cargo shorts to overly done suiting and we think that those are the only two options
when it's way, way more than that.
[0:05:10] So, what I want to talk to you guys today about are the six elements that if you
apply them, you will always be well-dressed.
You will always be dressed in a way that is both intentional and consistent with who you
want to be, but also help you be aspirational and lead to accomplishing more goals in your
life because if you think about it style doesn't matter.
As an end in it of itself, it's stupid it's clothing on our body, who cares?
But when you think about what style helps you accomplish, then that's why it matters.

An Asteroid Didn't Kill the Dinosaurs, Here's a New Theory About What Did - Duration: 2:15.
A group of scientists is saying that the asteroid impact that killed off the dinosaurs might've
changed the world far more than we realized!
Some 66 million years ago, a 10-kilometer-wide asteroid hit the Yucatan Peninsula and the
global effects killed more than three-quarters of all species, including dinosaurs and many
ocean-dwelling life forms.
The immediate aftermath was earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, as well as vaporized
rock launched high above the surface that heated as it fell back to Earth, sparking
fires.
And these fires are what changed the climate and decimated most living things!
According to this new model: Soot from the global wildfires was heated by the Sun and
lofted high into the atmosphere.
There, it created an impenetrable barrier around the globe.
Just picture it…
The planet is as dark as a moonlit night in the middle of the day, meaning little to no
photosynthesis.
Any plants not killed by wildfires are dead.
The the lynchpin of the ocean food chain -- phytoplankton -- is gone.
All the species that rely on these for food are dead.
The atmospheric soot causes global surface temperatures to drop by as much as 28 Celsius
over land and 11 over the oceans.
But the soot in the atmosphere keeps absorbing sunlight, heating the stratosphere, sucking
up water vapour, and destroying the ozone.
Eventually the atmosphere is cleared of soot, but only after a year of darkness, and then
the environment is decimated.
This is not a planet to call home.
Amazingly, this model shows it doesn't take a lot of soot for this kind of global devastation
to happen.
One simulation used just 5 billion tons of soot, about a third of what scientists think
was actually produced after the impact.
But this simulation isn't exact to how the world was 66 million years ago.
Still, it's a sobering thought.
While nuclear warfare or a smaller impact wouldn't have the same effects, either would
still put enough soot into the atmosphere to cool the surface and heat the upper atmosphere,
potentially changing the global climate enough to wipe out multiple species.

FALL EQUINOX 2017: HERE'S WHY THE LEAVES CHANGE COLORS IN AUTUMN
Friday September 22 marked the Autumnal, or Fall Equinox, and for the Northern hemisphere, that means the beginning of fall.
Along with the onset of pumpkin spice everything, fall is also known for the beautiful color changing of the leaves.
But why exactly does this happen? We're so happy you asked.
Newsweek spoke with Dr.
Dennis Stevenson, Vice President for Botanical Research and Cullman Curator at the New York Botanical Gardens in New York City to get a better idea of this breathtaking phenomenon.
According to Stevenson, unlike most living things that gain energy through food, trees get their energy from sunlight.
Chlorophyll, a chemical inside leaves, converts this sunlight into energy for the trees through a process called photosynthesis.
However, during the equinox there is far less sunlight than usual, which means less energy for the trees.
Stevenson explains that this shift in sunlight is the main reason behind why the leaves fall in autumn.

"The trees are getting ready for winter, which means shorter days and very cold weather," said Stevenson.
"Normally, the trees are not able to go through photosynthesis to maintain themselves, plus they have to deal with the risk of their leaves freezing.
The simplest way to deal with this is to get rid of their leaves.".
Okay, this explains why the leaves fall off, but what about the color changes?.
Chlorophyll is also what gives leaves their bright green coloring.
Stevenson explains that most of the leaf colors we see in fall come about from the loss of chlorophyll.
In preparation for the dark winter months, trees stop making as much chlorophyll, once again in an effort to conserve energy.

"The normal greens change into reds as the plants lose chlorophyll," said Stevenson.
"Take away the chlorophyll and other pigments such as yellows, reds, and other various shades can be seen.".
Some strange factors can affects how and when the leaves change colors.
For example, according to Stevenson, temperature has an effect on the changing of the leaves.
Warmer or cooler seasons can yield different colors.
"If it stays a little warmer but dry, you have less vivid colors than a cooler dry fall may have.".
The presence of unnatural light can also affect a tree's leaf color.
A plant situated underneath a street light may not change its colors in the same way as one in nature would.
Ultimately, the changing of the leaves is a natural part of the season shift, and a way for trees to survive during the cold dark winter.
Most importantly this fire-like performance from nature is a reason to go outside for a long autumn walk—before it's over and you have to wait until next year.
