we're doing some cutting
welcome to the Sewing Report I'm Jennifer
Moore helping you discover your love of
sewing we're going to be testing out a
product today called the super scissors
these were sent to me by the lovely
folks at evergreen art supply thank you
very much for the item to review we're
going to test it out though does it live
up to its theme are they really that
super what is your definition of super
we're going to find out so on the table
with me I've got a bunch of really
random stuff and of course because
they're scissors we're just going to
start cutting into it see how it does
I'm going to start with the finer
material and work my way to the bulkier
stuff and then after that we're going to
go back to the fine material and see how
it does because we all know when you're
cutting fabrics you're only supposed to
cut fabric with the scissors and nothing
else but I asked you guys what you
wanted me to test out and the two
responses I got were silk now I'm too
broke for silk but I got polyester
crepey ER and denim and I do have a pair
of denim jeans so we're going to try to
annihilate these even more so let's get
started and one thing I would like to
say these scissors are about $30 you can
get them on Amazon and one cool thing
about them is they come with a free pair
of snips oh and stay tuned to the end of
this video because one of you can win a
pair of these scissors if you want and
we'll see how it does on the test maybe
after this maybe you won't want one I
don't know so let's get started weevil
to the polyester crepe and these
scissors I will say this my initial
impression is they're quite sturdy
they're pretty heavy but you know they
still feel comfortable in your hand
they've got these rubberized grips and
these blades are a major alike and by
the end of this video I could this could
end with a hospital trip we don't know
we're going to try it out though so
let's try the polyester crepe very
clean-cut and we even try to get some
detail in here they're very easy to
maneuver it feels good in the hand and
the movement is pretty fluid so I would
say so far so
good you know yes very clean obviously
no difficulties but this is a very
lightweight fabric so let's do a bed
sheet this is the target sheets that
I've been using them like pretty much
every one of my videos but and I still
have some left over that's the crazy
thing I can't I can't seem to use these
up which is insane
but the truth so let's fold this up into
like a bunch of layers and we're going
to cut into it that way alright so this
is two layers four layers
alright let's do eight layers and see
how these do and if they do well with
that will try sixteen layers all right
actually that's not that it's a pretty
clean cut you know yeah I mean these did
a really nice job actually and it didn't
really struggle so I mean so far I would
say super scissors you are you are at
least meeting these expectations of
being super alright here are sixteen
layers and honestly they didn't struggle
it wasn't difficult so I'm kind of
impressed sixteen layers of fabric right
here and these things performed all
right let's try some canvas here we'll
do a couple layers of canvas alright
yeah very easy
seriously goes right through these are
cutting like butter but again we're just
we're really just on the fabric right
now all right let's try a few layers of
canvas all right so here is one layer of
canvas two layers four layers
eight layers so let's try eight layers
of canvas and see what happens now all
right
actually you know what this still very
clean cut no ragged edges I'm so far
these things are pretty darn good all
right let's do batting I got some
batting scraps here and again I mean
really the only way to test scissors is
by cutting stuff so that's pretty much
what we're doing batting I always have a
little bit of trouble with not because
it's such a dense material but just
because batting Tenzin's tend to get
like hung up on it if that makes sense
wow this is so smooth and I mean this
cut is so clean I'm this is actually
like it this is awesome yeah look at
this I mean that's that's perfect it
almost looks like a factory edge or
something so I'm so far I'm liking these
all right so what else should we try
here's some jersey knit fabric will just
try cutting that all right and jersey
again it's not a six-hour but it can be
a little tricky to cut just because it
doesn't want to stay put
let's try to cut some Jersey here Wow
alright it's actually this is it
actually I will say so far these
scissors and I've used quite a few
different brands of scissors over the
years these scissors are performing
really well and these are actually the
easiest I've ever used to cut fabric
like this Wow check this out so well
okay alright so got some Jersey and
again the thing about these scissors
that I'm noticing I've only had these
scissors for like a couple days so I
don't know what's going to happen but so
far so good
they're very easy to cut through alright
let's try some this is Pelin flex phone
so it's like a foam stabilizer will just
try cutting this again very easy there's
no drag on the scissors like you know I
can even cut like shapes in here and
it's it's actually moving quite easily
like everything here is very easy so the
denim is the thing that people were
really requesting so this is a pair of
jeans old jeans they're a little beat-up
and these might be the jeans that he was
wearing when he met me so they do have a
little sentimental value but I'm going
to cut them up for you so here goes
these are a mirror
egle jeans probably at least a decade
old and obviously they've definitely
gotten enough wear so we're going to try
to cut these jeans at the hard parts
like like where the seat where the hem
is at the bottom and then the side seam
very sick seams we're going to try to
cut into this Wow okay that was actually
really like honestly the scissors didn't
really even struggle like super clean
cut I mean look at this it's absolutely
absolutely easy alright let's try a
couple layers like they're kind of
bunched up here and the side seams
actually the part where just where the
side seam meets the hem all right this
is like a super bulky layer and it's
even cutting through that and check this
out it's super clean like there's no
it's not ragged at all it's just perfect
it's like a perfect cut so I will say
super scissors you are living up to your
name
so far but the test isn't over with all
right so the dad oh yeah I would say
this gets an A for the denim for sure
like and I own other brands with
scissors - I don't even know if they
would cut denim this easily but these
scissors and again I didn't have to use
really much force I have really small
hands and no upper body strength and I
was able to do this quite easily and
yeah this is where the bottom hem meets
the side seam and it's still cutting
through that without really any trouble
so can it cut denim I would say yes
let's move these off to the side all
right the next test we're gonna do some
cardboard and this cardboard I think it
came with some packaging or something
but I use cardboard quite often to make
templates like if I have a pattern I use
a lot I'll make a cardboard template
just so it's a little sturdier let's try
to custom card okay this is a super easy
cut cardboard yeah
really had no trouble at all and let's
try to do like a curvy shape or
something just to see yeah look at this
I can easily cut like little waves in
the cardboard without much trouble like
so if you're cutting out templates this
actually would be good pair of scissors
to cut things out with I'm yeah super
scissors I'm liking you so far we also
have a couple layers of cardboard here
this is an Ikea insert I bought a box
and it was meant to be like a like a
compartmental box but I didn't use this
section so we're going to try to cut a
few layers of cardboard all right let's
see here
this one and honestly this is pretty
thick cardboard it's very dense and
there's like three layers here so I'm
using both hands but it's still making
it through here ah alright I mean I
don't want to do this all day or
anything but actually performing pretty
well so far
alright so it can cut multiple layers of
cardboard alright the last test
this was a toughy I don't know if you
know what this is this is called lexan
it's sort of like Plexiglass and it's
basically like very shadow resistant you
can put them on windows is this a
security measure but this stuff is
pretty heavy-duty you can't throw a rock
through it and break it so it's pretty
alright and I don't know maybe I should
be wearing safety glasses or something
but I will say don't try this at home
kids this is just a test we're just
going to see if this can cut through
lexan alright it actually kind of is and
again I wasn't really expecting this to
be able to cut lexan be used to cut
lexan but I figured I would give it a
try and again remember I have no upper
body strength so this is pretty tough
stuff okay we're going to we might be
destroying these scissors I don't know
we're going to find out but I will say
I'm very surprised this is actually
cutting the lexan at all I thought this
was going to be a disaster let me get it
from the other side here so
Wow check that out so these super
scissors just cut a piece of lexan color
me impressed and again I know I said
impress like 50 times during this video
but it's because I'm honestly surprised
how easily these sisters were able to
cut all of these materials I mean this
stuff Wow
I can't believe I was able to cut a
piece of lexan with the super scissors
let me try another piece will turn out
to me and let me see how the scissor is
feel you know the blades really all feel
like they dulled at all
they don't yeah they seem to have good
up to the lexan pretty well they still
feel very sharp I'm I'm kind of
surprised okay we're going to try
another piece I mean honestly this isn't
really precision cutting but the fact
that it's cutting at all is pretty cool
alright let's try another piece here are
the way James is in the back of the
camera so hopefully I don't hit him with
a flying piece of lexan we will cz
alright and our my hands a little sore
right now maybe a little bit but is
because I'm cutting a piece of lexan and
yeah look at that
I cannot believe these scissors cut
lexan uh I don't even know I don't even
know what to say right now but yeah I
used it to cut two pieces of lexan but
now all right word what we're going to
do is we're going to go back to my
polyester crepe might cheap version of
silk and see how the scissors do on the
silk after cutting a piece of lexan all
right let's see here alright I will say
alright the lexan does seem to have had
a little bit of an impact
alright the scissors do seem to have
been affected by the lexan cutting but
that's kind of understandable I mean it
is a very hard material
I mean it's still coming pretty well let
me try to clean actually at my help let
me try to clean these off a little bit
with the piece of fabric or something
but I mean it still seems alright you
know what actually on the scissors I do
see a little section on the scissors
where it seems to have been dulled a
little bit by the lexan but again I just
cut a piece of frickin lexan so that's
why all right so I've cleaned off the
blade so they might need to be sharpened
now but that was really really pretty
freakin cool alright let's try the crepe
again and actually you know what after
cleaning you know after cleaning the
blade off I mean there's a little bit of
like I'm getting a few ragged edges on
the cuts like you can kind of see but if
you know if that's actually pretty
impressive you know I did just cut a
piece of lexan so if you're not using
these scissors to cut lexan or similar
materials these things will be awesome
and through all these tests I think
these things are actually pretty darn
good so super scissors I give you I give
you a solid a solid a and the product
design comfortable in the hands and the
price is about thirty dollars which is
comparable with other brands of
higher-end scissors so yeah I mean I
think these things are definitely a good
value especially if you don't plan to
cut all the things I just cut with them
and you're just cutting fabric and other
household items all of the scissors come
with these really cool snips so for the
30 dollars or under $30 in Amazon you're
getting the scissors and you're getting
these really cool like spring action
snips so these would be great for
keeping your your sewing machine for
thread and stuff and I think they're a
good little bonus item that comes with
the scissors but we're going to be
