We caught up with Carl Clemente , from Liverpool Former Players Association 5Times, to chat all things Reds and of course transfers were very much on the agenda.

The transfer window is officially open and just one major deal in Mohamed Salah for Liverpool so far. Any anxiety or are you happy with progress?.

As you have said, the transfer window is not long open, so its still very much early days.

Many players have just recently returned from their holidays, a time where many of Klopps potential transfer targets would have been mulling over their careers with their families.

Nevertheless, p re-season is now underway at many clubs, therefore it will now be the time for players to sit down with their managers to discuss their futures.

As a result of this, I expect we will be seeing a lot more transfer activity in the next coming week or so!.   Jurgen Klopp manager of Liverpool during a training session at Melwood.

I strongly believe Klopp himself has known the players he has wanted for a long time now, hence the fact, he didnt bring in any new reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Its now down to the powers that be at FSG to do their part and provide Klopp with the players he has asked for.

Naby Keita has been the name on everybodys lips for a while now. Whats your view of how determined the Reds seem to be to try to get him?.

Naby Keita would be without a shadow of a doubt an exciting addition to our squad - a player who is more than likely to be at the top of Jürgens most wanted list.

From what I have seen of him, Keita possesses all the attributes of the complete midfielder combining power and energy with great ball control and excellent passing abilities.

FSG obviously dont agree with RB Leipzigs estimation of him. Lets be honest, £70m is a lot of money, even in todays climate.

  I agree if Liverpool are hesitating in paying so much for a player who is yet to reach his full potential.

If Keitas price tag was around £30m or even £40m, then there would be no doubt in my eyes, he would become a Liverpool player in the next week or so.

However, £70m falls into a completely different price range and one of which Leipzig say is non-negotiable.

They dont even want to sell him and have just basically come out and said: if anyone wants him, you must pay up £70m, or no deal. FSG wont fall into this trap and pay what they feel is an extortionate amount just for the sake of sealing the deal.

Especially, after buying another expensive midfielder in Georginio Wijnaldum for £25m just 12 months ago.

Unless, Leipzig lower their valuation of the player, I think well be seeing Keita doing his absolute upmost to force the move himself, which might include handing in a transfer request or even refusing to play.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out! Virgil van Dijk was back at Southampton for pre-season this week.

Do you think LFC should continue to hope the Saints change their stance or is it time to target a new centre-back? Virgil van Dijk is currently one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

However, as we know, its going to be far from an easy signature to seal.

From my point of view, the most frustrating part is that a world class player has actually said he wants to join Liverpool and work under Klopp, a feat which Brendan Rodgers failed to achieve during his time at the club.

Therefore, it would be a crying shame if Virgil doesnt end up a Liverpool player, especially after stating that Liverpool is his club of choice.

  Its common knowledge that Liverpool have been put off from making any further contact with Van Dijks agent by Southampton and will now feel that - as the Saints have accepted their apology - they wouldnt want to risk rocking the boat even more, by making more enquiries about their player.

Therefore, I reckon, Liverpools hands are tied at the moment and the ball is now in the players court. Nevertheless, If Liverpool, is indeed, his dream destination, then Van Dijk must do everything in this power to make it happen.

As there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding van Dijks future, I feel Liverpool should be patient and not rush into signing another an over priced centre-back before the season starts, as they did with Dejan Lovren.

If Virgil wants Liverpool and Liverpool want Virgil, then sometime in the future it will happen.

Im not saying that Liverpool should totally be out of the market for a new centre-back, but maybe they should wait until the van Dijk flame has completely died out.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has rejected a new deal at Arsenal - he seems to split opinion among LFC fans. Are you keen on a move for him?   Personally speaking, on paper Oxlade-Chamberlain wouldnt make Liverpools starting XI.

However, lets be honest, Liverpool dont currently boast a strong enough squad to compete against Europes elite. Furthermore, being pragmatic the players that would make up Liverpools strongest IX arent going to be playing every week.

There will be spells during the season when your Manes, your Coutinhos and Lallanas will be sidelined through injury.

Therefore, not only does Klopp need a large squad to able to compete in three domestic and one European competition, but also requires a strong and experienced one as well.

I have always said in order to find out how strong a starting XI is, you have to look at a teams bench.

Europes top clubs have always had the privilege of having seven full internationals on their benches and Klopp needs to do just that.

  If he can achieve this, when injuries and suspensions start kicking in mid-season, he will have the luxury of replacing quality with quality, in order to keep the momentum going.

A player of Oxlade-Chamberlain calibre would not only help bulk out Klopps squad, but also would provide him with another quality piece of weaponry to add to his armoury.

A larger squad which oozes quality throughout makes the competition for places much more healthier which is a welcomed perk for any manager to have.

If neither van Dijk or Keita are possible, how would you feel if Klopp decided to wait rather than buy someone who wasnt his first choice? Although Naby Keita would be a welcome addition to the squad, if his price tag doesnt come down significantly, then I feel that Liverpool will be forced to explore other options in that area.

  Virgil Van Dijk and Naby Keita - Jurgen Klopps top transfer priorities Regarding van Dijk, Klopps priority is to improve his defence and, as Ive said, Virgil in my eyes is one of the leagues best central defenders.

Adding the fact that he wants to work with Klopp, if Liverpool are seen to be exploring further options on strengthening their back line, then Virgil might think that he isnt in Klopps plans anymore. Its a difficult one.

On the one hand, Liverpool can only hold out for so long as Klopp will be keen to upgrade his defence before the Champions League starts. However, a player of Virgils quality doesnt come around that often.

I dont know the ins and outs of what Liverpool can and cant do in terms of speaking with Southampton or the player.

However, Klopp cant really wait around for much longer, which would ultimately result in him missing out on, not only van Dijks signature, but also on other possible reinforcements as well.

Any player youre expecting to emerge in pre-season just as someone like Ben Woodburn did last year?   I hope Trent Alexander-Arnold gets a lot of game time during pre-season so that he gains vital experience to be able to push Nathaniel Clyne further for the right-back spot.

Although, last season, Clyne didnt have a particularly bad season, I do think if Alexander-Arnold can get in front of him, he will be able to offer a lot more going forward.

Maybe Im asking too much of Clyne - hes a full-back and his priority is to defend, which he doesnt do a bad job at.

However, being honest, I do feel Alexander-Arnold would be a lot more dangerous in the oppositions final third. Any other business?   Id like to express my content in Klopps decision to keep Daniel Sturridge at the club.

Although, the reason for him staying has been mainly a financial one, rather than for his unique footballing abilities, Daniel is still one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

His goalscoring record speaks for itself: 60 goals in 119 games is second to none.

Fingers crossed that at the age of 27, he can now put all of his injuries and illnesses behind him and become more of a regular fixture for Liverpool next season.

To he honest, I did get the impression that Daniel was mollycoddled too much under Brendan Rodgers and Im pleased that Klopp has took a more no nonsense approach with him, which in the long run will benefit Daniels game, physically and physiologically.

Oxley Road: Singaporeans want ugly spat to end, say political observers

Singaporeans want to put the ugly dispute involving the children of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew behind them, but the debate in Parliament on the matter has not brought it to resolution, political observers said yesterday.

At the same time, it is unlikely the allegations made against Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will hold much water in court or peoples minds, unless his younger siblings can provide evidence for their accusations of abuse of power in relation to their fathers house at 38, Oxley Road, the observers added.

The two-day debate on Monday and Tuesday, in which a total of 36 ministers and MPs spoke, drew mixed reviews from the observers.

Some felt it has put to rest the allegations, with the Government providing clarity on key issues that had previously been topics of contention.

These include how and why a ministerial committee to look at options for the Oxley Road house came to be, and why the National Heritage Board (NHB) had tried to back out of a deal with the estate of Mr Lee over some artefacts from the home.

Dr Gillian Koh of the Institute of Policy Studies said the ministerial committee was not a mysterious or secret one, as alleged by Dr Lee Wei Ling and Mr Lee Hsien Yang.

 she said - From the debate, we have learnt all the three siblings knew what the point of the committee was, and had responded to it.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who chairs the committee, said Dr Lee and Mr Lee Hsien Yang were informed about the committee on July 27 last year, shortly after it was formed.

He also said they were invited to make representations to the committee. Another issue was on a donation deal between the NHB and the executors of the late Mr Lees estate.

Mr Lee Hsien Yang, who with his sister are the executors, had complained that the NHB had tried to back out of a legally binding deal to exhibit artefacts from the home.

But Dr Koh said: We have learnt that the PM was involved not only as a PM but a beneficiary as well, and his consent was not sought for the gift or the terms in the deed.

But, in order not to create a ruckus, he had let the whole issue slide..

She added: So, it was ironic that one side of the equation was calling the other out for not doing it properly, when that side had not conducted itself properly.

Some observers, however, felt that the debate did not probe deep enough in some areas. SIM Global Educations Dr Felix Tan noted that fewer than half of the 101 parliamentarians spoke.

He said MPs should have grilled PM Lee more, for example, on how he would handle his siblings allegations of abuse of power since he is not willing to sue them at this point.

From what I have seen on social media, which I take with a pinch of salt, many people are not satisfied with the debate but just want to see the matter resolved, said Dr Tan.

Ultimately, the debate has not brought the issue to a close.

This is exacerbated by the fact that PM Lees siblings are unlikely to let the matter rest, said East Asian Institute senior research fellow Lam Peng Er.

In the coming days, I am sure things will come in dribs and drabs from the siblings on Facebook because they were not represented in Parliament, he said.

I dont expect Lee Hsien Yang to ride off into the sunset after conducting guerilla warfare. Political commentator Derek da Cunha said: Many Singaporeans will likely identify with the Workers Partys brand of opposition - being constructive and responsible.

The party had prioritised national interest and did not take potshots at PM Lee, he added. The WP was prepared to cut the PM some slack on the matter because emotions can run high in family disputes.
