Princess Diana's 'Bravery in Fighting for Good Causes' Celebrated at Her Family Home - Duration: 2:15.
Princess Diana�s lasting charitable legacy was celebrated at a fundraising gala at her
family home on Wednesday evening.
The gala, held at the Althorp Estate and hosted by Diana�s brother Charles Spencer, honored
The Diana Award charity, which celebrates young people who are walking in Diana�s
footsteps.
In a statement, Charles Spencer said, �I have always championed The Diana Award, from
the moment it was raised as a possibility in the grim days after my sister�s death.
It so clearly chimed with her love for children and young people, and reflected her bravery
in fighting for good causes, a gift that she possessed from a very early age.� Actress
Pamela Anderson and King Arthur actor Craig McGinlay were among the 75 guests at the bash,
which was in partnership with Global Gift Initiative, an international program from
the Global Gift Foundation, a charity founded by actress and producer Maria Bravo.
�Twenty years on, she is still touching hundreds and hundreds of lives through her
legacy,� says Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award.
�It made me even more conscious of the responsibility that we have in continuing her legacy.
Not that we shy away from that, but I was more aware of how much we have a huge responsibility
to make sure people continue to remember her and that what she lived by continues to be
remembered.� Althorp Estate is also hosting an exhibit, Walking in her Shoes, of the 20
Legacy Award winners who received their honors last month from Diana�s sons, Princes William
and Harry.
Maria Bravo added in a statement, �Like Princess Diana, the work of The Diana Award
transforms the lives of so many young people.
On this 20th anniversary of her passing, we are proud to have created a unique evening

Princess Diana Would Have Been 56 Today, and Her Family Is Marking It in the Most Poignant Way - Duration: 2:11.
Princess Diana was remembered by her sons and close family in an intimate service at
her family home on Saturday, the day that would have been her 56th birthday.
Her resting place on the island of the Oval Lake at Althorp House was re-dedicated in
the presence of her sons Prince William and Prince Harry, along with Princess Kate and
her brother Charles, 9th Earl Spencer.
William and Kate brought their children, nearly 4-year-old Prince George and 2-year-old Princess
Charlotte, to the private service as well, which was led by Justin Welby, the Archbishop
of Canterbury.
�The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend a private service to re-dedicate
the grave of Diana, Princess of Wales at Althorp House on Saturday 1 July,� Kensington Palace
said in a simple statement earlier this week.
�The service, which will fall on what would have been The Princess�s birthday, will
be conducted by The Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by her family.� Diana died
following a car crash in Paris nearly 20 years ago, on August 31, 1997.
She was laid to rest on the Oval Lake�s island six days later after a funeral service
at Westminster Abbey.
As the anniversary nears, William and Harry are set to unveil a public commemoration of
their mother, a statue that will be erected in her honor at Kensington Palace.
Last year, Diana�s brother Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, told PEOPLE of plans to renovate
the area surrounding the memorial, including the planting of forget-me-nots and rhododendrons.
�They were Diana�s favorite flower,� he said last year.
�I still remember giving her some when we were children.
