"I have no wish to play politics.
I have no grievance with the City, not anymore.
I have no grand hopes to end the war, for long have I known I will not see its end.
I am here for one battle, and one alone, because it is a battle we must all fight, together
or separately.
So I will warn the defenders, together or separately.
I will do anything—" her low voice shook with passion— "to end Oryx."
Then a small smile curved the Queen's lips.
"Well said."
She straightened, and leaned slightly forward so the room's light fell on her face.
"So let us end him."
Welcome back Guardians, today I wanted to talk about Eris Morn and specifically her
involvement in the Queen's plan and where she has been since Destiny 1.
When I say, the Queen's plan, I am speaking that infamous line during the Taken King cutscene,
"The Awoken have played their part, this was all part of the plan, guide them my hidden
friend.
It is all up to you now."
This is finally explained in the lore of Forsaken.
If you have not seen my video on the Queen's origin story, it may also be helpful to watch
that video before this one, as the Queen's plan will make more sense.
As usual, the artwork at the beginning of this video was provided by Gammatrap, all
patreon donations go towards paying for the artwork, see the patreon link below for more
details and rewards.
This is myelin games, and I hope you enjoy this latest Destiny 2 lore episode.
[INTRO] To try and predict where Eris is, it is important
to understand her backstory, starting with losing her Ghost and Light in the Hellmouth.
Eris Morn was part of a fireteam, which also included, Toland Shattered, who descended
into the Hellmouth to try and destroy, Oryx's son, Crota.
Crota had just killed many Guardians during the battle for the Moon.
The entirety of the fireteam is killed, well, sort of, Toland is killed but technically
transitions into the Hive Ascendant Realm, leaving Eris Morn as the sole survivor.
Somehow, Eris Morn merges from the Hellmouth, with out Light and without her Ghost.
It is finally revealed that Eris Morn was able to escape the Hellmouth because she made
a wish using an Ahamkara bone.
Have a listen to the Cloak of the Great Hunt, it reads,
I am lost in these lunar tunnels.
Out of ammo.
Short on Light.
I am out of moves, save one.
I clutch an Ahamkara bone in one hand, and my dead Ghost in the other.
I hear a whisper.
My vision is gone.
My face itches from the viscous flow from my eyes.
Though I can't see, I find that I suddenly know the way out.
For those of you who missed my video about Riven, Ahamkara can still grant wishes upon
death, and often they tempt those who posses their remains, such as their bones or heart,
to make more wishes.
Now the reason, why Eris Morn had an Ahamkara bone, is because she participated heavily
in the hunting and slaughter of the Ahamkara, known as the Great Hunt.
Have a listen to the Vest of the Great Hunt which describes Eris Morn defeating six Ahamkara
with Wei-ning, only to have the bones of the great creatures whisper to them.
It reads, An hour later, six shapes emerged from the
Venusian foliage.
Ahamkara.
Their compatriot, whom Wei-Ning continued to pound into the ground, was pulsating, growing
stronger.
Feeding.
The others had come to feast at the same table.
Eris pulled her Arc Blade from the air and Blinked.
When the Hunter and the Titan finished their hunt, Eris thought she heard Wei-Ning whisper.
"Did you say something?"
"I was about to ask you."
"Huh."
And this, where Ikora and Eris kill an entire army of Ahamkara, and then vaporized their
bones with an arc storm.
The strides of the Great Hunt reads, Eris and Ikora stood over a graveyard of whispering
bones.
An hour ago, this was a vibrant army of Ahamkara.
Together, the Guardians summoned a storm of Light that consumed the bones around them.
They ignored the whispers, but the voices grew louder, harsher as the maelstrom progressed.
Soon, they couldn't tell the difference between the whispers and the storm.
So, the Great Hunt occurred, where the Ahamkara were Hunted to near extinction, Eris Morn
obviously stashed an Ahamkara bone, which she would later use to escape the Hellmouth.
The Queen of the Reef, Mara Sov, captured and kept Riven, the last remaining Ahamkara.
Now, this is when the infamous Plan begins, Guardians slay Crota, Oryx's son, and Eris
Morn and Osiris visit the Queen of the Reef, Mara Sov.
The Ghost Fragment: The Queen 2 reads, The Hunter's pale lips tightened slightly,
then resumed their usual stony mien.
"Your Grace," she said.
Shuro and Sedia shifted, a sudden rustling and whispering.
The Queen raised one finger to silence them.
Uldren's eyes narrowed, but he said nothing.
"I am not here for you."
The Queen stared at the Hunter, her expression studiously unchanged.
A silence rang out in the room.
The Hunter kept her head raised, her ambiguous gaze directed at the shadows in the throne
where the Queen reclined.
Then a small smile curved the Queen's lips.
"Well said."
She straightened, and leaned slightly forward so the room's light fell on her face.
"So let us end him."
So, Eris Morn teams up with the Queen, becoming a Hive informant.
Have a listen to the Lore entry Throne, it reads,
Eris Morn returned to the Vestian Outpost.
Because she spoke well, it was agreed that aid would be traded for intelligence and a
long-term alliance.
In this way, the Awoken were the first to know of the Great Navigator: his philosophies,
his strategies, his weaknesses.
The great navigator is a references to Oryx, so Eris, basically provided all the intelligence
she has on Oryx and the Hive.
This is the beginning of the PLAN.
SO what is the Plan, Mara Sov's plan is to be killed by Oryx, enter Oryx's throne
world, await Eris Morn and the Guardians to kill Oryx, and when his throne is absent,
claim the Taken Throne and powers.
The reason why Mara Sov will be transported into Oryx's ascendant realm is because of
the weapon he uses against the Awoken fleet, the weapon itself pushes his throne world
into reality and so being killed by it would normally take his enemies, however, Mara Sov
survives.
One of the reasons, Mara Sov survives, I believe is two fold, the first is due to her creation
as awoken, she survived the singularity, the worm hole, see my video on Mara Sov for more
details and the second is the use of the Harbingers.
The harbingers are the weapon the Queen and her techeuns summoned, but it is hinted at
that they were not intended to defeat Oryx but allow Mara to enter his throne world.
With all that being said have a listen to Tyrannocide V, it reads,
She feels her Techeuns preparing emergency selfgates.
Shuro Chi reaches out to her—a wordless, urgent need for Mara to live—and it takes
all the cold impassive remove of Mara's millennia to turn that hand away.
The shockwave strikes.
Mara dies.
In one way, she is vaporized with her Ketch, the bonds between the very particles of her
body questioned by the harrowing logic of Oryx's weapon and found inessential.
The mechanism of devastation is spontaneous fission.
The author of the devastation is laughing in joy.
In another way, a more true and symbolic way, she is impaled on Oryx's blade.
She has thrown all her might at him, and he has answered.
He has snuffed her fledgling divinity and her meager claim to royalty, he has exposed
Mara to the raw and caustic hostility of his High War.
She has been defeated by the sword logic.
She dances down the blade and steps into his throne world.
The Harbingers give her the gate and she takes the step.
She is dead, consumed by Oryx: She is dead in his will, his Ascendant Realm.
There was no other way inside except this true way.
Inanna at least gave her people some warning; she told her minister to have her worshippers
lament, drum, pray, and lacerate their buttocks.
Inanna told her minister to beg the gods to save her.
Mara has not.
Instead, she has enlisted Eris and several million mad dancing Guardians to go knock
off the god who killed her.
It is, on that level, a very simple bank heist: Get yourself taken into the treasury as treasure,
and when the owner dies, break back out with his stuff…
Oryx's throne world tries to tear her body and psyche into a quintillion screaming pieces,
but Mara has survived the inchoate primordial chaos before space and time.
She has retained her selfhood through far worse than this—and she has patience for
eons.
Eris will succeed.
The Guardians will play their part.
When the power in this world is free for the taking, Mara will take it, not as the victor
taking spoils, but as a scavenger takes a prize component for her masterwork.
It says that when the power in this world is free for the taking, Mara will take it!
I believe this is a reference to Mara Sov claiming Oryx's throne and title as leader
of the Taken.
So, that was Eris Morn's role in the Plan, she was to guide guaridans to defeat Oryx,
and therefore allow Mara sov to claim his throne in Death.
Now, we also know that Mara Sov created her own throne world, at this stage, I believe
that Mara Sov's throne world was created as a exit door, once she had entered Oryx's
throne world in the ascendant plane, how would she escape, I believe that she made her own
throne world, which is connected to the Dreaming City, and the Oracle within the Dreaming City
so that she could return.
I could be wrong though.
So why did Mara, not claim Oryx's throne, and why was Mara's throne world destroyed.
Well, she did not account for Oryx launching a counter attack, and Oryx's sister, Savathun.
There is a hint that the Taken and Oryx invaded the Dreaming City immediately following the
battle with Awoken, that the Techeuns behind the Queen tried to prepare emergency selfgates,
portals, back to the Dreaming City to avoid the blast, and these portals lead Oryx directly
to the Dreaming City.
This was when Oryx found Riven still imprisoned, and when Oryx took Riven.
Eventually, Guardians would destroy Oryx leaving Riven in limbo and at this point I believe
Savathun claimed the Taken Throne, at this stage I am not too sure why Mara could not
contest it, or maybe she just didn't have the power, Mara was planning for the throne
to just be empty, not for another Hive God to claim it.
Anyway, this is what Riven says in the Boots of the Great Hunt;
I did not notice her.
That means [the light] did not notice her.
She knows that thought I am [Taken], I am beholden to no one.
So I ask her if she wishes to take up those strings.
She does.
And I take a new shape.
My cage loses its purpose.
Shuro Chi has been Taken.
Kalli and Sedia, too.
And the Reverie Dawn Bond reads, And Riven—
She used to sit in the shade of those wings.
Laugh at the riddles that rumbled in that mercurial throat.
This creature is all teeth and broken promises, transformed by the expectations of another
scheming, secretive sister.
The scheming secretive sister is commonly a referral to Savathun.
Savathun made a wish, and a curse upon the dreaming city using Riven, which is related
to the Dungeon in the Dreaming City, but I will cover that in more detail another time.
So how does this all relate back to Eris.
Well, you likely would have noticed, that even though this is new lore released with
Forsaken, chronologically, this occurred during and following the events of the Taken King,
and so chronologically the most recent update of Eris, excluding the unleased lore trimuphs
(because we are not meant to be speaking about that yet), the most recent update comes from
Age of Trimuph, the grimoire card Ghost Fragment: Eris Morn and the new Forsaken Ship Unfinal
Shapes.
The Ghost Fragment Eris morn card has Eris Morn speaking with Asher Mir who has just
lost his arm to the Vex, it reads, "Soon I will take my leave of this"—she
put her hands up, to take in the med bay, the City, the Tower, Earth—"lie."
"I must find a new path through the night.
The Hive are vast, and ancient.
A power from far beyond our realm.
If we are ever truly to face them, ever truly to put an end to their hate, I must step beyond
the safety of the City."
Now that we know that Savathun has taken over, it is reasonable to speculate that Eris is
in pursuit for Savathun, and I would also say, that Eris is still working very closely
with the Queen.
The reason why I say that Eris is still working with the Queen, is because the Queen accepted
Eris, where as the Tower and Vanguard looked down upon Eris as corrupted.
The Unfinal Shapes lore tab describes Eris writing a letter back to Asher Mir, and this
may be the most recent contact with Eris Morn, it reads,
This will be my last letter for a long while.
The Queen needs me more than the City does.
And I need her.
When she looks at me, she does not see an invalid, or a madwoman, or a burden.
She sees a Hunter.
She has pointed me at the true enemy, and with her help, I will see my quarry caught.
So, Eris seems like a very loyal servant and Hive spy with the Queen.
However, the flavor text for Unfinal Shapes makes me very suspicious, at first glance
you may assume Eris is speaking about the Queen mara sov, however she could easily be
speaking about Savathun, have a listen.
Mine is not a final shape.
She showed me that."
–Eris Morn Referring to her final shape, is something
that Oryx would usual do, Oryx would take someone, and then tell them that this was
their final shape, the fact that Eris refers to her final shape is very suspicious that
she has been speaking with Savathun.
Knowing everything we know about Eris, it would be very reasonable for her to have come
in contact with Savathun, she helped Queen Mara Sov complete her plan, by destroying
Oryx, and then she left the Tower to pursue Savathun because she claimed the throne, and
so the next question is, when Eris Morn returns and she refers to her Queen, is she referring
to Mara Sov or the Hive Queen Savathun.
That concludes this latest Destiny 2 lore episode, if you would like to support the
channel, leave the word "Unfinal shape" to represent that we do not know whose side
Eris Morn is on anymore, and which queen she refers to.
As usual, it has been a pleasure, this is myelin games.
Peace
