Arsenal news includes a look at why Sokratis has been left out of the squad to face Watford

in the Premier League

There was a surprise omission from the Arsenal starting XI against Watford on Saturday, with

Sokratis left out of the matchday squad.

The Greek defender has been a key part of Unai Emery's side this season, starting every

Premier League game, but he was forced off before half-time against Everton last weekend

with a dead leg.

Sokratis did not feature in the Carabao Cup win against Brentford on Wednesday night but

did take full part in training on Thursday at London Colney.

Arsenal then announced that he was fit to play after recovering from his injury, so

the expectation was he would partner Shokdran Mustafi once again against Watford.

But the 30-year-old did not even make the squad, with Rob Holding getting his first

Premier League start of the season instead.

That led to fears that Sokratis had suffered some sort of setback, but football.london

understands that is not the case and that the defender has simply not been risked.

Emery was impressed by Holding's performance in midweek - and against Everton - so decided

not to rush the former Borussia Dortmund man back.

In the build-up to the game, Sokratis had been speaking about Lucas Torreira and the

influence the Uruguay international was already having at Arsenal.

"When he is off the pitch, he is so calm but when he is on the pitch, it is like 'Transformers',

he becomes crazy!" said the defender.

"He works very good, he is small but he is strong enough.

I like him very much because he gives everything, he tries to defend every time and when we

have players who do this work in front of us, it is very important.

"[The defensive unit] is getting better and better every month.

It is not just the defence but the whole team: how we work, tactically, in the offence and

the defence, we are getting better."

Trump Says UN Was Laughing WITH Him, Diplomats Say The Opposite Is True - Duration: 3:42.

So obviously by now everybody knows that Donald Trump went to the United Nations earlier this

week, gave his speech, everybody laughed at him in the General Assembly when he started

talking about how great and successful he's been as president.

About a day later, Trump was asked about that, and he said, "No, no, no, no, no.

They weren't laughing at me.

They were all laughing with me.

We were all joking around.

We were having a great time.

It was fun.

They all love me, but more importantly, they were laughing with me, not at me."

He was adamant that we know they weren't laughing at him, even though when he made the comment

he then had to wait for the laughter to stop and said, "I didn't expect that response."

They were laughing at you, and that's not speculation either.

That's literally what they've been telling reporters since you gave that speech.

BuzzFeed News actually talked to several of the diplomats who happen to be in that room

with their delegations, and they admitted 100% we weren't laughing with him.

We were absolutely laughing at him.

Here is what one Latin American diplomat had to say.

"Sometimes when we see a behavior or listen to arguments or notions that seem so far-fetched,

unreasonable, or insane, there is almost natural reaction of laughing."

Went on to add, "It is not laughing at a good joke, but a nervous laugh, or a bad joke turn

laughable precisely because the guy who tells the joke doesn't realize how bad it is."

That pretty much sums up Donald Trump, right?

We had another European diplomat who said, "What would resonate well at a political rally

in America sounded a little awkward at the UN General Assembly.

His words in the opening part of the speech were clearly addressed to a domestic audience,

but as he did it in the Trumpian way, bragging ridiculously about being one of the best administrations

in history, people in the audience reacted how they reacted."

We can now confirm pretty easily that yes, they think Donald Trump is a liar.

As the Latin American diplomat there said, he used the word insane to describe what Trump

did.

Not necessarily saying that Trump is insane, but that what he did there was absolutely

insane.

Then the European diplomat who comes out and said, "Why is he telling us this?

This was nuts.

Yeah, I'm sure that would work great in a rally, but you're at the UN.

Not only is it irrelevant, but we don't care and we don't believe you anyway.

Can we please just get down to business?"

This is one of the reasons why Donald Trump is such an ineffective leader on the world

stage, because he has no interest in international affairs, or diplomacy with other countries.

He just wants to talk about him.

He just wants it to be about him, and he wants everybody else on the planet to care as much

about his alleged victories as he does, even though really the man has such a short list

of victories that he could carry it around on a tiny Post-It note and just show people,

but that's not who he is.

This guy is all about Donald Trump and that is that classic narcissism that we see coming

out of him every time he gets on the global stage.

As long as this man is president and able to go out there and speak to foreign dignitaries

in places like the UN, and the G7, and all of that, as long as he's doing that, he is

going to continue to be a national embarrassment, and worse, a laughing stock around the rest

of the world.

Republican Lawmaker's Tax Break Yacht Was Financed By Foreign Bank - Duration: 4:06.

We, here at Ring of Fire, have told you the story of Republican Florida congressman Vern

Buchanan in the past, but in case you didn't see that or you want a refresher here it is

in a nutshell.

Vern Buchanan, Republican representative in the US House from the state of Florida, last

year on the same day he voted in favor of the Republican tax cut package he went and

signed the paperwork to purchase a new multimillion dollar yacht.

The cost of that yacht also happened to be roughly the same amount that Vern Buchanan

himself was going to save each year because of his tax cut package.

Vern Buchanan is one of the wealthiest members of the US House of Representatives with a

net worth estimated around $80 million.

He owns several companies here in Florida that he still pulls millions of dollars from,

and he's benefiting greatly to the tune of a couple million a year from the tax cut package

that he passed.

That's the Vern Buchanan story that we have told you in the past, everything about that

is 100% accurate.

Guess what?

There were apparently a few missing pieces to the Vern Buchanan puzzle that investigative

journalists Andrew Perez and David Sirota managed to find this week in a report with

Capital & Main and MapLight.

They found the missing pieces of the Vern Buchanan puzzle, and uncovered the fact that

not only did he buy the yacht, but do you know who financed the yacht?

It was a company, BMO Harris Bank, which is a subsidiary of the Bank of Montreal.

The BMO Harris Bank is the one that loaned him the money to buy this yacht because, obviously,

he didn't have his tax cut money yet, he had to get it from somewhere to pay back the loan.

BMO also happens to be one of the biggest lobbyists for the tax subcommittee that Buchanan

leads because they were lobbying to get the tax cut bill passed.

Now, this isn't just a story of a wealthy member of Congress passing legislation to

personally benefit him to go buy a yacht.

Now, we're looking at potential pay-to-play because the bank that had been telling Buchanan

to pass this legislation, lobbying, spending on it, donating money they're the same ones

who as soon as he signed it turned around and said, "Awesome job.

Let's get you fast tracked on that loan, so you can pull outta here with that new yacht

today."

That's a big issue because now it's not just a Republican's greed, now we're talking about

full-blown corruption, possible illegal activity with a Republican member of Congress.

That's what's happening now thanks to the work of Sirota and Perez here.

As it turns out, Buchanan this was not the first interaction that he's had with this

bank, this foreign bank by the way.

They have also lent him money over the years for his other businesses.

It's kind of his go to bank.

They lobby him, they get what they want, he gets loans for his businesses.

He got loans from them for a new, private, 10 person jet a little while ago as well.

Then, he delivers everything they ask for when they want legislation passed.

This is 100% pay-to-play, this is absolute criminal corruption at the hands of a Republican

congressman.

I hope that this story gains traction, I hope that everybody pays attention to this because

Vern Buchanan, like every other member of the US House of Representatives, is up for

reelection in a couple weeks, and I want everybody that lives in that district in Florida where

Vern Buchanan is running to understand that this man is not only rich as hell and corrupt

as hell, but his activities in the US House of Representatives are now bordering on criminal.

Is that really the kind of person you want to send to Congress?

That's the question that his voters need to be asking themselves right now.

That Time a Soldier Was Awarded a Posthumous Medal While Still Alive - Duration: 8:45.

The Param Vir Chakra (roughly, the "Wheel of the Ultimate Brave") is India's highest

military decoration for gallantry during battle and is "awarded for rarest of the rare gallantry

which is beyond the call of duty and which in normal life is considered impossible to

do".

The medal is known for having one of the most stringent selection process of any military

award in the world and 14 of the 24 total recipients were killed during the action that

earned it.

One such posthumous recipient was Yogendra Singh Yadav…

The problem was that Yadav was very much alive and heard about his own heroic death while

recovering in the hospital.

Born in 1980 in the village of Aurangabad Ahir, Yadav was the son of former soldier

who'd fought in the Indo-Pakistan wars as part of the Kumaon Regiment.

Yadav, along with his brothers, would frequently spend evenings listening to their father's

war stories and tales of famous Indian military heroes.

This instilled a deep sense of patriotism and duty in Yadav from a young age, so it

was no surprise to his family when he decided to join the military at just 16 years old,

joining the Grenadier Regiment.

Yadav subsequently proved to be a formidable asset to the military, quickly rising through

the ranks and eventually coming to serve with an elite commando unit of the 18 Grenadiers

called the Ghatak's- basically, elite shock troops tasked with being the first boots on

the ground in any conflict.

On May 3, 1999, Kashmiri and Pakistani militants managed to storm and take control of several

strategic forts and bunkers along the border that had been left abandoned since the end

of the war.

This action prompted the start of what became known as the Kargil Conflict- a series of

bloody confrontations between the two countries that lasted just over 3 months.

One of the most strategically valuable points captured was a group of fortified hardpoints

atop a 17,411 foot (5,307 m) tall mountain known colloquially as "Tiger Hill", or

officially as Point 4660.

As the tallest peak in the Kargil region, Tiger Hill allowed the enemy soldiers to look

down on the 56 Brigade's headquarters, as well as watch the Srinagar-Leh highway for

troop and supply movements.

Unsurprisingly, the top Indian military brass demanded its immediate recapture at any cost-

enter Yadav's commando platoon, the 18 Grenadiers.

The mission of the 18 Grenadiers (which has been called one of the most brazen ever attempted

in open combat) was to scale an icy, 1000 foot near vertical section of the mountain

and assault the 3 fortified bunkers atop it, while artillery bombardments distracted the

combined Pakistani Kashmiri forces stationed in them.

Yadav (who was just 19 years old at this point) wasted no time volunteering to climb the snow-covered

peak unassisted and lead the assault.

Yadav's mission was to affix ropes to specific areas so that the rest of the near couple

dozen 18 Grenadiers squad could follow him more quickly.

Trained in both mountaineering and alpine warfare, Yadav was an exceptional climber

and was reportedly able to scale half that section of the mountain in mere minutes- a

feat that becomes all the more impressive when you realise this assault began at night

(roughly 11pm local time) and the elevation in that area is approximately 17,000 feet

(5,100 meters), meaning light and oxygen levels wouldn't exactly have been ideal for such

fast climbing.

Unfortunately for Yadav, as he was closing on the top of the mountain, with his platoon

now following closely behind, he was spotted and the enemy opened fire with machine-guns

and rocket launchers.

The initial volley killed Yadav's commanding officer along with a few others of his squad,

all of whom were either killed outright or who fell to their deaths.

Clinging both metaphorically and quite literally to life, Yadav sustained three significant

injuries while pushing himself to climb the rest of the way, taking two bullets to the

shoulder and one to his groin in the process.

Despite the injuries and being under heavy fire with little cover, he managed to make

it to the first bunker, hurling a grenade into it and killing everyone inside, silencing

the enemy fire from that position, allowing his squad to continue their ascent.

Unfortunately for Yadav, the attention of the second enemy position was now directly

on him and they opened fire on the young man, who was soon joined by two of his companions.

Yadav then led this trio of death in charging into the storm of bullets and rockets being

aimed at them, with Yadav ultimately managing to reach the enemy bunker.

In the ensuing hand-to-hand melee in which he used his climbing ice axe as his primary

weapon, he killed the four Pakistani soldiers manning the position.

At this point, the surviving members of the 18 Grenadiers reached Yadav and were greeted

to the sight of an extremely bloodied and injured young man surrounded by dead enemy

soldiers.

Remarkably, during his two headlong charges, Yadav had sustained a further 12 bullet wounds

two "hand grenade wounds" and had his arm broken and nearly ripped from its socket

by an explosion, leaving it hanging limply at his side.

Yadav shrugged off these injuries (presumably metaphorically as literally shrugging would

have been a tough act given the two bullet wounds to his shoulder) and used his belt

to make a sling for his arm.

Next, he pulled out his pistol and charged the third and final position.

Rallied by Yadav's bravery once again in the face of heavy, near point-blank fire,

the rest of his squad followed and captured the final point.

News of Yadav's valor and total disregard for his own safety in the face of overwhelming

opposition soon reached the military brass and he was immediately recommended for the

prestigious Param Vir Chakra at the tender age of just 19 years old.

Now, the Param Vir Chakra has one of the most robust selection process of any medal for

heroism in the world, which is a particular point of pride for the Indian military.

The medal isn't just awarded for "everyday" gallantry- it is awarded for the "Most conspicuous

bravery or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, in the presence

of the enemy, whether on land, at sea, or in the air".

As such, those eligible for the award are scrutinised at length by no less than six

different facets of the Indian military hierarchy.

To quote:

Recommendation for any gallantry award for a soldier is initiated by the commanding officer

of a battalion to the brigade headquarters.

From the brigade headquarters it is passed on after scrutiny to the divisional headquarters

and from there to the corps headquarters.

From the corps, after detailed discussion and correlation of the claims, it is the send

to the command headquarters, where from it is forwarded to the army headquarters in New

Delhi.

At the army headquarters it is finally scrutinised by the Honours and Awards committee headed

by the army chief, which has principal staff officers such as military secretary and adjutant

general as its members.

The decision of this committee is forwarded to the ministry of defence for its final approval.

Needless to say, it was a curious, and embarrassing thing, that they subsequently awarded Yadav

the Param Vir Chakra posthumously, despite the fact that he was lying in a hospital bed

at the time.

Yes, not only had he sustained a body's full of serious injuries, but he made it back

down the mountain and to the base hospital.

In fact, after the award announcement went out, it was Yadav's young wife who subsequently

notified the military brass at the base hospital that her husband was indeed alive and reasonably

well all things considered.

It is often claimed that the number of serious injuries Yadav sustained combined with his

unbelievable actions were such that it was simply assumed he'd died before making it

back to medical aid.

However, the selection process for that award is far too rigorous to let such a thing slip

normally.

What actually happened is that in Yadav's squad there was another soldier with the exact

same name- Yogendra Singh Yadav – who did die during the battle.

As a result, when the living Yadav was recommended for the Param Vir Chakra, officials attributed

the remarkable actions of Yadav to that guy instead- whether because they simply assumed

the Yadav who died must be the one who sustained all those injures and performed the unbelievable

acts, or simply because nobody noticed there were two Yogendra Singh Yadav's on the squad,

isn't clear.

To further confuse things, it's also noteworthy that the other Yadav was among the first to

scale the cliff after the surviving Yadav, and that both men engaged the enemy in ferocious

hand-to-hand combat.

During an interview from his hospital bed, Yadav was asked to comment on rumors he was

planning on taking an exam to become an officer.

Yadav responded that he would like to, but had to pass his high-school exams first…

Once again, he was just 19 years old.

The scythe wielding embodiment of death.

A ghoulish cloaked humanoid walking among the living in order to collect the dead and

take them to the afterlife.

Doesn't sound like a chap I want to party with, although I don't have to because he

simply isn't real.

What if he was, though?

Hello and welcome back to Life's Biggest Questions, the channel that likes to answer

a breadth of queries, from history, politics, science, pop culture and fiction…why?

Because curious minds are strong minds.

I am your host Rebecca Felgate and today I am asking What If The Grim Reaper Was Real?

So before we get into this video I want to remind you that halloween is a coming, hip

Alright Grim Reaper, what have you got!

So the concept of the Grim Reaper dates back over many thousands of years and appears in

many hundreds of cultures.

The Egyptians, for example, put a face to death with the jackal headed Anubis – the

God of Death.

The Grim Reaper as we know today is a skeleton wearing a cloak and holding a Scythe, a tool

used by farmers to reap the harvest, much like old Grimmy chap reaps souls.

This version of the reaper was popularized after the Black Death killed off 40-60 percent

of the population of Europe.

At this point bodies were being pilled in the streets or carried by on carts and people

started imagining death walking among them, as in some ways it really was.

Death is the ultimate difficult concept to get our head around – we only know living,

so to imagine something as abstract as death, which seems so final and unfair, is better

comprehended when someone can imagine it as a thing – a character – coming to take

us away.

So we know where he came from and why he was thought up, but none of us have actually ever

seen the Grim Reaper because, well, so far as we are aware, he isn't real.

What if he was?

Well…first thing is first, he would become a lot more visible to us as he would be one

of the busiest guys in the world.

There are around 150 thousand world wide deaths a day… while a larger proportion of these

are in problem areas like third world countries, that is still an unfathomable amount of ground

to cover and souls to reap in 24 hours…without a break!

Unless the Grim Reaper is some kind of tireless time traveller then there must be more than

one of him…which leads to the question of whether or not the Grim Reapers are the agents

of something bigger.

Perhaps people would loiter by the dying waiting to meet the grim reaper to ask him a few questions

before he trots off to wherever he is going with the souls of the dead.

EXCUSE ME GRIM REAPER, WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?

That is another question…where exactly is he going and can non dead people see him?

Would we be able to track him and find the portal to the underworld….If the Grim Reaper

was real then that would mean the afterlife must be real and that is a whole separate

can of worms that I am not sure we have the time or breath for right now.

Suffice to say humans will WANT answers….but would we be prepared to deal with them if

they came.

While we are on some grand theological topics, let's talk about how the Grim Reaper is

often depicted holding a hourglass and he comes for you when, I quote, your time is

up?

If the Grim Reaper was real, would that mean our deaths are already predetermined?

If so, what are the wider implications of that?

If the Grim Reaper is real, does that mean that fate is real?

Does it mean we were all doomed from day one?

So, here is a thought for you – if the Grim Reaper was real, a real guy or walking skeleton…however

you want him…but real…. does that mean that we could cheat him?

Could we cheat death?

I don't know if you have ever played the Sims…but I have …and it is a constant

battle to try and shut the Grim Reaper out… but he comes anyway.

Some people say in the Sims 4 they have managed to stop him….would we humans do the same…obviously

we would!

Businesses would start selling literal death traps… but would they work?

And If we could stop the Grim Reaper, what would that mean for our burgeoning population?

Or would it mean that people are still dead, but their souls stay on earth rather than

being guided to the afterlife.

ARGH…I am back with the questioning again.

Maybe we need one of these death traps to keep him still for a while so we can interrogate

him.

How long til we ask him why the scythe and cloak, mate?

Ooh…do you think the Grim Reaper has a personality?

What do you think his voice sounds like…deep…right…but would he have an accent….does he have a

Mrs Reaper at home…maybe the Grim Reaper is controversially actually a woman anyway…or

maybe death doesn't have a gender?

But like… if it's a skeleton, it must have had a body once, right?

Why is the grim reaper a human skeleton?

Does the human skeleton reap the death of animals or is there be like a little skeletal

fish reaper for dying fish….and a spooky bones only owl reaper for birds?

LISTEN I just have too many questions…

So, what if the Grim Reaper was real?

Well in some ways it IS – The Grim Reaper is the personification of death and of course

death is very much real, we just can't comprehend it.
