We are at Palais Garnier

It's a spectacular place

It's construction was ordered by Napoleon

And it reflects the opulence of the II French Empire

It's very elegant, it's very imposing and very Rococo

The most impressive places are this staircase that you see here behind me

And also the Hall, which we will see in just a bit

The ostentatious Garnier Palace owes its name to the architect Charles Garnier

It was built between 1861 and 1875

And it has a capacity for almost 2,000 people

It is one of the most famous opera houses in the world

Due in part to the novel and the play of the Phantom of the Opera

In which the Palace is an essential part of the story

We are right in front of the Place de la Concorde

And here we will also find the Obelisk

Which we'll show in just a bit and give you more information about it

The Place de la Concorde is the second largest square in France

And they say it is one of the most important in Paris, perhaps the most important

It was known as the Square of the Revolution

Marie-Anoinette and King Louis XVI were beheaded here

This is the Obelisk I was telling you about. It's called the Obelisk of Luxor

It was brought by King Louis Philippe I

But it was actually built by Ramesses II

Louis Philippe fell in love with the Obelisk and sent a boat to Egypt to bring it here

During the travel, the obelisk suffered a little

And they also say that the parisian contamination is also affecting it

The tip, as you can see, was added later

There are many disputes between the government here from France and the Egyptian scientists

Because they think that it should return to Egypt but here they want to keep it

To my back we have the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais

Right now, they are museums

They were built for the 1900 Universal Expo and they're style is Beaux-Arts

This right here is Alexander III bridge. Also built in 1900 for the Universal Expo

And declared a historical monument in 1975

It is the second largest of all Paris

We are already finishing the day, we are going to take a walk around the Champs Elysees

In Christmas they build a very large market

It has many food kiosks and all the Christmas decorations kiosks

Here we finish our tour of the Champs Elysees

We want to emphasize that here we are going to see Nairo Champion in 2017

Because the Tour de France runs on the Champs Elysees

And back here, where Champs Elysees ends, is the Arc de Triomphe

It is a monument in honor of all the people who died during the revolution

And during the Napoleonic wars. Below is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Andrew: Hey, I'm Drew.

Pearl: We're here at the Abilities Expo 2017.

Andrew: Yeah, it's…

Pearl: Having a good ol' time. And we're getting photo bombed.

Luda: Yeah, by Michael. Michal, say "hi."

Michael: Hello.

Luda: Ready and go.

Andrew: Wait, hold on, hold on, I have to…

Luda: No?

Andrew: I feel like I'm gonna screw this up.

Luda: That's okay, so just say, like, "Hi, I'm Andrew.

I am at the Abilities Expo, and I'm having," or whatever.

Andrew: Absolutely.

Luda: Like ten seconds.

Andrew: I, yeah, okay.

Aaron: Hey, I'm Aaron Baker here at the Abilities Expo 2017.

And join me at the Wings for Life World Run on May 7th.

Andrew: Tell me when you want me to go.

Luda: Okay, go.

Andrew: Right now, like right Now?

Luda: Yeah.

Luda: So I'm trying to go to the bathroom and can someone please explain to me where the

bathroom is?

Like, where's the bathroom?

There's a door and a room, but no bathroom.

Luda: So, it's day two of the Abilities Expo.

Uh, it's almost ten o'clock so I got here good timing, so I'll see you inside. Bye!

Andrew: Okay, so I'm doing it right now?

Luda: Yeah.

Tamara: This expo unites companies and organizations that have certain supplies for people with

disabilities and so, let's check it out.

Sarah: Hello everybody, this is Sarah Brindle and I am here at the wonderful Abilities Expo

at the Convention Center and talking with Luda about the cookbook project.

Um, it is about cooking for wheelchair users, um, and you know, how to enjoy being in the

kitchen, how to enjoy being creative with cooking and adapting things.

Luda: What are some of the categories you guys are looking for?

Sarah: Well, I will tell you.

Um, so simple everyday meals, things that you make all the time, that you, you never,

fail at cooking.

Cooking with kids, uh, favorite cooking tools or accessories in the kitchen, holiday favorites,

safety tips in the kitchen, and then just different areas like juicing or eating healthy,

vegetarian cooking.

Andrew: I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just…

Ray: Hi, I'm Ray Pizzaro, I'm here at the Abilities Expo in Los Angeles.

We're out here trying to share resources and information to our community, hope you

guys come out and enjoy the day.

Janette: Hi, I'm Janette, I'm here at the Abilities Expo 2017.

Fun place to be.

All the things you might want or need if you had the money to buy them.

Uh, big social event, lots of people here.

I'm representing Ralph's Riders, ?, Triumph Foundation, and everyone else in our little community.

Andrew: Convention Center and it is fantastic, I'm just going around with my camera

going around doing the same thing Luda is doing right now.

And that is basically taking video, going up and talking with people.

Luda: Alright, you got, you're past your ten seconds, dude.

Andrew: Alright, hi, my name is Andrew Angulo and I'm here at the 2017 Los Angeles Abilities

Expo out here in Los Angeles.

Andrew: I'm filming myself, look, she just wants me to talk to the camera, so I'm gonna talk to the camera.

Say, "hi."

Luda: Hi.

I'm Luda and I, um, I just want to ask Andrew what he likes about the Abilities Expo.

Andrew: Hi, so I'm being asked to…I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just filming

myself.

Look, she just wants me to talk to the camera, so I'm gonna talk to the camera.

Say, "Hi."

Luda: Hi.

I'm Luda and I, um, I just want to ask Andrew what he likes about the Abilities Expo.

Bea: Hi!

Luda: Hi!

Leah: Hi, Luda.

Luda: There's Bea, there's Leah.

Hi.

Here at the Ripped Bodice.

I was sent to this building, but as you can see, it has steps, so now I have to go and

find the ramp, which I don't really know where it's at.

Um, and I don't even know if I'm, like, in the right side of campus.

I have no idea where this freaking building is, I don't even know if it's in Annenberg.

Oh my gosh, what?

What!

What do I do?

Oh my gosh.

How am I supposed to open this door?

Hello!

I've got five minutes to figure this out.

Oh my gosh, I finally found it and I have like three minutes to spare, it's so crazy, hopefully

the event is worth it.

Let's go find this Annerntord, Annenberg Auditorium.

What is this?

This is so cute, oh my gosh!

What is this place?

Oh my gosh.

So I just got off the bus from um, Seventh and Hill and I'm going down to Broadway,

but this little alley way is so cute, oh my gosh, I wanna eat here.

I spent probably like ten hours on the bus today, and it's kind of crazy, you can't

even see my face it's so dark.

Why did I spend ten hours on the bus today?

I don't know, just had to go to this Book Festival, um, which I spent half the time

being lost, like I don't know where I was going, and then the other half of the time,

I had to be in the bathroom trying to get my diapers of because I really had to go pee

and well, they just fell in the toilet and I have to tell you all about the diapers,

I'm going to bed, night, Bye!

Indra's Net - Duration: 8:24.

Indra's Net

Welcome to Word of Psychology.

In this video I would like to talk about a concept that is part of Buddhist philosophy: the Indra's Net.

I don't want to sell you Buddhist religion or philosophy,

anyway I find this concept very interesting in order to understand the importance, the value and the meaning of the human relationships.

I could simply say that Indra's Net is a way to conceptualize our society

as a fabric made of interlaced threads and each node is one of us, every node is a person.

Here's why you cannot move one of these nodes without modifying the shape of the net and leaving the other nodes in place.

Let's imagine doing this thing with a fabric and it will happen exactly in that way.

Why is this metaphor, this mental image interesting?

Because, in fact, we can psychologically imagine ourselves as signal repeaters:

we are connected to each other through received and transmitted signals of information.

The human relationship is basically information.

"I say to you, you tell me something, I transmit to another person that info" and so on.

This also gives the measure of the fact that you can get the best human relationships practice

remaining within the network and not standing alone, a thing, this last one, that, by virtue of this metaphor, is just impossible.

It is impossible to isolate ourselves from the network, indeed;

it's impossible to get out of it.

We are always inside of it.

In the case of a psychopathology, and also of a physical pathology, it's possible that the repeaters cease to function or they begin to malfunction.

The message that we refer is not what we received, it is incorrect, it is a corrupted message.

Or we receive signals and we do not transmit them,

starting to function as a black hole that absorbs energy from the surrounding environment and does not reissue it.

Easy to see it when you are near a disturbed or even ill person who needs care, which demands a lot attention

- some even in a particularly selfish form -

and they give us so little.

This to give you an idea of the importance of the relationship, a network of listening, reporting, and so on.

On the other hand, it also gives us the measure of the importance that other people have for us.

We often read on the social like Facebook, quotes like:

"Be yourself don't matter what" "Don't give a f*** about what they saying…" "Others must accept you as you are" and more.

It's right and wrong in the same time.

This pop psychology also creates a great malaise as I can see among my patients, because it's linked to the feeling of being slaves of the others' will,

as if we were fashion slaves who did not express ourselves but we dress like others say.

I'm talking about social conditioning, social pressure, something that surely exists.

However, as Aristotle had pointed out saying: "We are by nature social animals",

it is beyond doubt that our personality, what we are, what we think we are, is a social conditioning that comes from millennia of social evolution anyway.

For example, an atheist born and grown in our society, build through 2000 years of religious history, cannot totally disregard this assumption, even if he thinks he does.

In fact, we are embedded in society and we bring its values forward, even those in which we don't believe or we don't want to bring.

The peaceful psychological message behind this topic is the following: we must not feel so victimized by the others' eyes

because, in fact, we build ourselves on that basis.

As usual: the right position is ... in the middle!

You can absolutely be yourself and, at the same time, to listen what others say about you, so you can "adjust" yourself.

It's a feedback that governs us.

The idea of us as hermits on the mountaintop uncaring what the others think about us,

is an idea of great psychological rebellion probably made up by people who have had some difficulties in their life about relationships.

Psychotherapy, in fact, is a human relationship:

problems in human relationships are healed through a "cleaned" human relationship with a therapist,

anyway, in its core, it is still a human relationship after which you come back in society;

better to remember that, in any case, you are always inside the society.

So we have to accept with serenity the fact that we are part of this network and that people's judgment is something that matters,

we haven't to be slave of it, of course.

but clearly the others' judgment has a value and should not be discarded on principle.

For example, about fashion: everyday we find ourselves less rebellious and original than we think we are about fashion,

because we love to recognize ourselves even in the clothes that others wear, I don't find it so unkind!

it's nice to feel part of a group also.

It is clear that that feeling of belonging to a group mustn't overpower you,

otherwise you stop being an individual and you become the infamous sheep of the flock.

Let's remember, however, that we are part of a large group that has its own history, its own rules, its values,

and we share them with our own originality, somewhat with a certain degree of conformism.

We must accept this condition without perceiving it as pathological and strongly negative,

as long as it does not create any problems with our work and our relational and social well-being.

Ciao and see you on my next video.
