Youtube daily vehicle Apr 29 2017

there are many things about an SUV that

make it a questionable starting point

for a high-performance vehicle things

like its higher center of gravity and

its extra bulk but SUVs of all shapes

and sizes are popular right now and

consumers still love performance the

convergence of these two things has led

to a rise in performance SUVs like this

one here the GOC 43 is based on

Mercedes's GLC class compact luxury SUV

but it's been extensively modified by

AMG and it drives like a completely

different in much sportier SUV the GLC

43 retains the GLC class of smooth lines

that's a design themes Mercedes has been

rolling out as it redesigns its lineup

but there are various differences

between the two and most of them you can

see upfront the grille has a single

crossbar instead of the regular GL CS

dual crossbar and there are also

numerous chrome finished pins in the

grille the lower bumper opening is

bigger has a different design and the

wheels are bigger to the standard wheels

measure 20 inches but our test car has

the optional 21 inch wheels where the

GLC 300 emphasizes luxury smoothness and

isolation the DLC 43 is driving

experience is considerably more direct

and connected and the suspension tuning

plays a big part in that the DLC 43 has

a standard adaptive air suspension

that's been tuned by AMG and using the

dynamic select system you can choose

different modes like Comfort Sport and

Sport Plus to vary suspension firmness

the comfort study knows a bit of a

misnomer because even in this mode you

feel Road imperfection and bumps quite

clearly the port setting is slightly

firmer and Sport Plus take things up

considerably the ride is hard and

there's very little damping that said

the SUV corners very well with limited

body roll even in the comfort setting

the suspension isn't the only thing

that's adjustable dynamic select also

can vary the steering gas pedal

responsiveness and the transmission

operation in the most aggressive sport

bus studying the transmission up shifts

later and stays in lower gears overall

it also down shifts more aggressively

the 362 horsepower

turbo v6 is power doesn't blow you away

like some high-performance engines but

it's more than adequate whether scooting

out onto a road ahead of approaching

cars or merging with fast-moving highway

traffic it gets this SUV up to speed

swiftly in Mercedes sights of 0 to 60

miles per hour time of 4.8 seconds the

GLC 43 is focused on performance is

evident in the cabin in aesthetic ways

like this red stitching on the dashboard

and outs where and also in more

functional ways like these bolstered

sports seats they're finished in

simulated leather and suede and they do

a good job keeping you in place through

quick corners without feeling too

confining on the commute home from work

I was surprised though by how snug the

front of the cabin feels this model has

the optional panoramic moonroof so and

that's a feature that tends to decrease

Headroom despite the greater focus on

performance luxury still has a home here

their standard aluminum trim in the

interior in our test car has the

optional carbon fiber trim there's also

an optional in cabin fragrance system

that perfumes the air coming out of the

vent the cargo area measures 19 point 4

cubic feet in width the rear seats

folded there's 50 6.5 cubic feet of

space I really like how mercedes has

designed their folding rear seats

they're spring loaded and there are

switches that release them both in the

second row and in the cargo area and

when they're folded they're flat with

the cargo floor there's a shallow hidden

storage area underneath the cargo floor

for small items in the rear of the SUV

can be lowered by about an inch and a

half at the touch of a button that might

not sound like a lot but it noticeably

lowers the lift over height the move up

from an all-wheel-drive GLC 300 to the

GLC 43 is about $14,000 for a starting

price of around 56 thousand dollars with

optional features and packages the

as-tested price of this one though is a

heavy sixty nine thousand five hundred

and twenty dollars and not that far in

the future a more expensive performance

version of the GLC will debut in the DLC

63 which will have a 469 horsepower v8

under the hood

this all might sound a little kooky -

sports car traditionalist but we're in a

time where the SUV is king and

automakers are coming up with new ways

to try and entice shoppers by offering

subcompact versions

ones with coupe like styling and

performance models like the GLC 43 could

this be the sports car of the future

it's starting to look like a real

possibility

you

The Future Is Now - Duration: 3:28.

Electric vehicles are the future.

We had 66% more hybrid sales in 2016

than we had in 2015.

In 2016, overall electric vehicle sales

jumped 37% in the US.

Manufacturers hope to boost that trend

with affordable, long range electric cars,

like the Chevy Bolt.

It is a 238 mile pure electric vehicle

with a price under $30,000 after federal tax credits.

This is a vehicle that is a seven day a week,

multi-passenger, multi-occupant, high function vehicle.

It's not just a great electric car.

It's a great car period.

That's a selling point for some consumers,

electric cars that are just as stylish, powerful, and roomy.

We're excited to launch the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid,

the first seven passenger hybrid electric vehicle

capable of carrying seven people

and all of their cargo comfortably

with a 33 mile all electric range.

We are not doing a limited rollout.

These will be available for sale and service nationwide.

Minivans aren't the only

new electric rides on the road.

Certainly, there's gonna be more competition

in the electric space.

We're building a whole, brand new family

of electric vehicles, so that wouldn't just be Volkswagens.

It would also include Audis and Porsches.

Ford's announced that we've got 13

new electrified vehicles coming by 2020,

one of which is a mid-size SUV that's all electric

with at least 300 miles range.

As you get more cars going into the marketplace,

the cost is gonna come down.

By 2025, we think that it'll be awash in terms of the cost.

And manufacturers are addressing

another long standing problem, range anxiety.

We believe that more consistent range

would get more people interested in electric cars.

We've introduced an improved battery

in our Focus electric,

so it's now, instead of being 78 miles range,

it's 113 mile range.

We're gonna be building cars with a range of

probably 250 miles plus,

and they'll be much more usable on a day to day basis.

The Mission E in terms of concept that we presented

wants to guarantee a 300 mile plus electric range.

You really can go anywhere you want to go.

Consumers not only have

more options for vehicles,

there are now more ways to charge them.

If you get the 240 volt setup in your house,

you can reduce the charging time significantly.

And in a vehicle like Bolt EV,

you can get 25 miles of range

in an hour of charging at level two.

You go through a DC Fast Charging,

and you can get 80% of the charge in roughly 30 minutes.

The coolest way to be able to charge a vehicle

would be inductively.

You can have wireless charging.

Instead of having to plug the vehicle in,

you basically just drive the car over a pad.

We've got a coil on the ground,

where we start cycling current.

And the car inductively charges.

Imagine if all you had to do was pull into a parking spot

and your car would charge.

There's a lot of talk and a lot of interest,

but the real trick is translating that interest into action.

Our aim is to basically build a million

electric vehicles by 2025.

It's only gonna get better.

At some point, people will say,

okay it's finally time for me.

Vehicle Idling at Schools: I Turn It Off - Duration: 1:11.

Parents are great at being safe at school pick-up times.

They drive slowly... very slowly...

And they watch out for kids.

But they may be harming students in another way.

Air monitoring at schools has shown elevated levels of toxins during pick-up times as parents

idle their cars while they wait for their kids.

Exhaust fumes from cars are linked to increases in asthma, allergies, heart and lung disease

and even cancer.

Children are especially at risk because their lungs are still developing and they inhale

more air per pound of body weight.

Breathing these fumes can damage brain cells.

You can help keep your kids and their classmates healthy: If you'll be waiting more than

10 seconds, turn off your engine.

This simple step can dramatically reduce children's exposure to these pollutants, save a little

money, and help the environment.

It's your turn, Turn It Off Share the Turn It Off message with other parents

and school officials.

And take our pledge to stop idling at iturnitoff.com/schools

Best new cars for 2018 - Duration: 22:55.

Best new cars for 2018

Superminis and SUVs look set to dominate as we look at the best new cars to come in 2018

We've already picked our best new cars for 2017, but there are many more models set to arrive in 2018.

SUVs and superminis have been dominating sales charts in recent times, and the best new cars for 2018 reflects this as there are a host of models set to arrive in the two sectors.

Highlights in 2018 include the new Audi A1, Volkswagen Polo and Mercedes A-Class, plus the BMW X2, Skoda Karoq and Jaguar I-Pace are just a few of the new SUVs on the horizon.

However, there are also plenty of other exciting new cars approaching, with the Tesla Pick-up, BMW i8 Roadster and Toyota Supra sure to attract plenty of attention.

To keep you up-to-date with all the models arriving in the future, check out our list of the best new cars for 2018 below. The best new cars for 2018.

Alfa Romeo executive saloon

Price: From £36,000 (est). On sale: 2018.

Following the success of the Giulia, Alfa Romeo is readying a larger executive saloon to compete with the BMW 5 Series. It'll use an enlarged version of the Giulia's platform and the same range of engines.

Our exclusive image previews a sharp look to echo the smaller Giulia, while a flagship Quadrifoglio variant is likely to use the same Ferrari-engineered tech to take on cars like the Mercedes-AMG E 63.

Alpine A110

  Price: From £50,000 (est).

After a seemingly endless wait, and following countless concepts, teasers and leaked details, the all-new Alpine A110 was revealed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The Porsche 718 Cayman rival is set to go on sale next year.

The two-seater arrives 55 years after the iconic original was introduced, and features a much more modern 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbo engine producing 249bhp and 320Nm of torque – making the Alpine good for 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

However, instead of using a six-speed manual gearbox like some competitors, the car feeds power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. Keeping weight to 1,080kg should make it lots of fun to drive.

The cabin uses a high-quality blend of leather, aluminium and carbon fibre, with one-piece quilted bucket seats. Prices haven't been announced, but we expect the new A110 to cost from around £50,000 when it arrives in showrooms. .

Audi A1

Image 4 of 38  . Price: From £15,000 (est) On sale: 2018. Audi will roll into next year with an all-new version of its A1 supermini, injecting more style, technology and practicality into its smallest model.

Our exclusive image previews the look of the second-generation A1: sharper LED headlamps and a bolder front grille will lead the charge.

However, you can expect more to change beneath the skin, as the new A1 will switch to the smallest version of the VW Group's MQB platform, called A0. Production will also shift from the A1's current location in Brussels to Barcelona.

The new platform will allow Audi to make big improvements when it comes to on-board technology and practicality, too.

A longer wheelbase will free up more space in the cabin for passengers and luggage, while a new 1.5-litre EVO petrol engine and updated 10-litre three-cylinder turbo will be offered.

Audi A6

Price: £35,000 (est). On sale: Mid 2018.

While minor tweaks have kept the A6 competitive in the executive class over the past few years, the arrival of the all-new BMW 5 Series has put the onus on Audi to introduce a replacement model.

As our exclusive image shows, the new A6 will get a far sportier look than the current car, with a design inspired by the 2014 Audi Prologue Concept.

Lightweight construction and efficient engines will keep running costs down, plus hi-tech electronics and connectivity will bring the A6 a step closer to being the first autonomous Audi.

Audi e-tron

Price: £50,000 (est). Audi will fill another gap in its SUV range early next year with the e-tron, and the car will break new ground as it'll be a fully electric rival to the Tesla Model X.

The newcomer was previewed at 2015's Frankfurt Motor Show by the e-tron concept, which featured a triple electric motor set up to produce 496bhp. This gave a claimed 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds.

Of more interest is the lithium-ion battery pack; on a full charge, this should provide the e-tron with a 311-mile range.

Audi Q3

Price: From £29,000 (est). Following the recent launch of the Q5 SUV, Audi is preparing a successor for the smaller Q3 model. It's set to be ready in 2018, and our exclusive image previews how the car will look.

Exterior changes won't be revolutionary – the newcomer is a similar size and shape to the current model – but a longer wheelbase should mean there's more room inside than at present.

The next Q3 is going to be based on the MQB platform, which is the same architecture that underpins its SUV siblings in the VW Group range, the SEAT Ateca and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Sharper LED headlights and a new grille will be the main changes, although inside we expect the new car to get much more of an overhaul.

A new dash design and Virtual Cockpit instrument display will bring the cabin right up to date.

There's the possibility of a new set of engines on the new model, too, with a plug-in hybrid Q3 e-tron on the cards alongside the more familiar line-up of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Audi could also introduce an all-electric version of the SUV, with underpinnings from VW's e-Golf.

Audi Q8

Price: From £70,000 (est). If you didn't think the Audi Q7 was big enough, then the Q8 might fit the bill. It's a five-metre-long coupe-SUV that majors on style and spaciousness, and will feature plenty of cutting-edge technology.

The Q8 was revealed in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show back in January 2017. The roadgoing version will only be toned down slightly, although the 443bhp plug-in hybrid drivetrain that powered the show car should make production.

BMW 3 Series

. Price: From £26k (est) On sale: Late 2018. It doesn't seem that long since BMW unveiled its current 3 Series, but the compact executive class moves fast, and the all-new car is due to land in 2018.

As our exclusive image previews, it will feature evolutionary lines. It's set to use hi-tech lightweight construction inspired by the latest 7 Series, plus efficient three and four-cylinder engines, potent six-cylinders and a plug-in hybrid.

BMW is believed to be working on a Tesla-rivalling electric version, too.

BMW i8 Roadster

   . Price: £120,000 (est) On sale: 2018.

We've already seen the i8 Roadster in concept form when the i8 Concept Spyder appeared at the Beijing Motor Show back in 2012, and then more recently as the iVision Future Interaction concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2016.

But it will finally make production in 2018. The second bodystyle for BMW's hi-tech supercar will get a few tweaks over the coupe.

We're not yet sure whether the i8 roadster will feature a folding hard-top or fabric hood (if any), but the two bold rear haunches seen on the concept have still been visible in prototypes caught on test by our spies recently.

The Roadster is also set to benefit from a stiffer carbon-reinforced plastic shell, as well as improved range from the lithium-ion battery.

BMW X2

. Price: From £30,000 (est) On sale: Early 2018.

BMW has a wave of new SUVs on the way in the next few years, but the compact and coupe-like X2 will be the first to be revealed at the end of the year before it lands in showrooms here early in 2018.

The production model will strike a remarkably close resemblance to the Concept X2, revealed by BMW at the Paris Motor Show in September 2016.

As the name suggests, it slots between the X1 and X3 in the company's existing model range; under the skin it will share the same front-wheel-drive platform as the X1.

That also means an engine range made up entirely of four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, but xDrive four-wheel drive will be offered alongside front-wheel drive.

In the pipeline as well is a sportier model developed by BMW's M tuning division, possibly badged M25i, although this will also be powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine.

BMW X7

. Price: From £55,000 (est) On sale: 2018.

While the X5 hasn't quite offered the space to be a direct competitor to the likes of the Range Rover and Audi Q7, BMW is set to change all that with the launch of the upmarket X7 SUV.

Our exclusive image previews styling inspired by BMW's latest saloons, and the seven-seater will offer a lot more room inside than the X5.

Power is likely to come from a similar range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid power sources as found in the current X5.

And as with the smaller SUV, a coupe-style version – to be called the X8 – is set to follow, too.

Dacia Grand Duster

. Price: From £10,000 (est) On sale: 2018.

It may seem as though the Duster has only been on sale for five minutes, but by the time the all-new model arrives in showrooms later this year, it will be an eight-year-old design.

That's a long time in the car world, and the next Duster will benefit from parent company Renault's new-found success in the crossover sector.

It's likely to feature plenty of tech from other models to help keep the value price tag in check, while Dacia is rumoured to be following up the standard car with a seven-seat Grand Duster, as previewed by our exclusive image.

Ford Fiesta ST

Image 14 of 38  . Price: From £19,000 (est) On sale: 2018. The standard Fiesta hasn't reached UK showrooms yet, but Ford has already pulled the wraps off the all-new ST hot hatch.

The big changes don't stop with the revamped exterior, which features a more mature look, fancy new alloy wheels and horizontal tail-lamps.

Inside, Ford has given the car an overhaul by adding a new touchscreen infotainment system, as well as a simplified centre console design.

However, the biggest change comes under the bonnet; the old 1.6-litre four-cylinder motor is replaced by a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo. Power rises by 17bhp to 197bhp,.

while torque is up 50Nm to 290Nm. But the new ST is also more efficient; CO2 emissions tumble from 138g/km to 114g/km, thanks to cylinder deactivation technology.

The newcomer is still based on Ford's global B-car platform, but features a wider track, plus the chassis has been tuned by Ford Performance.

On top of that, driving modes comprising Normal, Sport and Track have been introduced; they'll alter throttle response, steering weight and exhaust valve settings.

Ford Focus

. Price: From £19,000 (est) On sale: 2018 (est). Ford's family hatchback will get a major update in 2018, and with it the company hopes to return to the top of the class.

As with the new Fiesta, the Mk4 Focus will be an evolution of what's gone before, although it's expected to revive the same sharp handling that made the original version such a game-changer.

Our exclusive image previews how the looks are expected to move on from those of its predecessor, while the interior will be repackaged to improve space in the rear – a particular bugbear of the existing Focus.

Hyundai FCV SUV

. Price: £40,000 (est) On sale: 2018. Hyundai has pioneered hydrogen fuel-cell tech, and it became the first company to offer an FCV to retail customers in the UK with its ix35-based model.

This has been a slow seller because of its high price, but that's something Hyundai is likely to address in 2018 when it introduces its next-generation fuel cell.

The new car is expected to be a standalone model – not based on the Tucson that replaced the ix35 – and the range will rise from 258 miles to around 373 miles.

Hyundai i30N

. Price: £26,000 (est) On sale: 2018. The new Hyundai i30 is already a strong contender in the hatchback market, and the Korean maker is taking its latest family car into performance territory with the i30N hot hatch.

The car is expected to offer just under 250bhp and Hyundai will use experience gained from its rallying exploits to get that power to the road.

Last year's RN30 concept pointed to a subtly aggressive look that won't be quite as 'in your face' as models like Honda's Civic Type R.

Infiniti QX50

. Price: From £35,000 (est) On sale: 2018. The QX50 is Infiniti's answer to the BMW X3, and the second-generation model is set to embrace its SUV roots with a more upright look than its predecessor.

The styling will largely be similar to the QX Sport Inspiration Concept, seen at last year's Paris Motor Show, and the new car will herald the introduction of Infiniti's innovative variable compression petrol engine.

This 20-litre turbo is designed to deliver the performance of a petrol unit with the efficiency of a diesel, and will appear across the company's range in the future.
