Why scaling is so important - Duration: 10:05.
Alright guys, this is Adrian from Brute
Strength Training and today on this
Brute Shoot. We're going to discuss scaling. Why
is this something that most of you need
to be doing more often.
Let's talk about that. Look, in regards to
the stimulus and the desired goals of
each and every workout every time you
enter the gym your coach or the gym
atmosphere that is created where you go
for your training should have an idea of
that exact goal
you may not as an athlete but it's clear
that your coach that's running the
class that you're a part of should make that
very clear to you through communication
here's an example every time I come into
the gym and i have a class they're
standing kinda like where you are right
now and we start here at the Wodify
screens
it's what we use as our whiteboard and
we discuss what the day's training will
entail a lot of times the workouts vary
from loading, from workout duration, you
name it.
Obviously we're including that kind of
variance into our day-to-day training
many of the athletes that come into our
gym are either brand-new, which means
they've been doing crossfit for a month
or less and some of them have even been
doing crossfit for up to and over eight
years with that considered the
information that I provide to each
classes is huge, right? It's a very big
measurable and perceived on the scale
from one to ten very important ten out of
ten to the members and the reason is
because I'm then telling them how they
need to be scaling or changing the
workout in order to meet the desired
stimulus. Today we're going to talk about
a simple workout, it's a benchmark,
workout is going to be Diane. For many of
you guys that don't know what Diane its
21-15-9 deadlifts and handstand push-up. So
let's pretend that that was today's
workout we're going to kind of walk this
direction to the whiteboard will
describe exactly how the scaling might
take place but there's one thing that
you would be in mind and one thing that
you always have to consider when we do a
workout like Diane that's a benchmark
workout. We have to consider what is the
top tier of our community going to
perform that benchmark at like how fast
this workout going to be, right? From my
experience and with the community that
we have, again, I shared with you guys at
our gym specifically we've got athletes
have been doing this for more than eight
or nine years. We can guess that
a good chunk of our community at the top
tier level which means 12 athletes are
more are going to be doing this workout
under four minutes they will go through
all the deadlifts, all the handstand
push-ups and under four minutes. So what
I want is, I want to try to scale the
workout for each and every athlete so
the stimulus is very close or as close
to what those top-tier athletes at my
gym are experiencing, right? This is
important and unique because if the rest
of my gym does this work out in 15
minutes but the top-tier doing it in, four
the results that those top-tier athletes
are seeing are tremendously different
than the results that the athletes that
are seeing that can only finish it in
the 15-minute window. I hope this makes
sense too many of you obviously we've
been training now and almost completely
different energy systems and the amount
of time that it takes the athlete to do
the 15-minute workout is like, the
intensity level has completely petered
off as the time continues to go by and
that 15-minute window they're not doing
much exercising, actually doing more
standing around so an important piece of
this for coaches to think about and to
understand is you have to know your
athletes and you have to know your
community and what I mean by that is
there are certain things that you can
say to an athlete. There are certain
things that you can say to a class that
will give them a general guideline or an idea
but the bottom line is you're going to
be making specific adjustments for each
and every athlete once you get down to
the nitty-gritty before you say three,
two, one go for the workout. From a
general standpoint as you guys can
hopefully I'll see here on this
whiteboard we've got Diane written up
we've got the deadlifts, the prescribed
weight is 225 pounds and 145 pounds for
for the men and the women and
the handstand push-up is allowed to be
kipped, right? That means at the very high
level the RX level, athletes going to be
doing this against the wall, elbow
reaching full extension. Now without
getting too much into the movement
standards and the details of this
workout i'm going to try to give you
guys an idea of how I might encourage or
educate my class on how to scale
accordingly to reach that desired stimulus of
close to a four minute window. So if we know
guys hey here's an example in today's
classes we have seen athletes finish
this workout and as fast as four minutes
and below in fact we've got athlete's
in this gym that have finished it in
under three minutes so for what I want
you guys to do today is a way to take a
look at this rep scheme 21-15-9 that means
you're going to do 21 deadlifts, 21
handstand push-ups, 15 deadlifts, 15
handstand push-ups 9 and 9 then the workouts
over you can bake and sizzle and die after
that. Now, my goal to guide you guys today
is to create a few guidelines
the first one is that for the deadlift
if 225 and 145 is a weight that while you are
fresh
you can't even hit 15 times in a row
unbroken touch-and-go style I want you
to scale the weight back today and the
reason why is because I want you to feel
like you can pick up the bar and get the
21 within two sets of your first working
set of deadlifts because we all know that
if you can't get there and at least two
out the gate and I'm not telling you
this is how you have to do the
workout today if you can get the 21 in
at least two sets fresh, you know that 15
is going to turn into multiple sets of
the nine going to turn into multiple
sets not that, that's wrong but the rest
that you'll be taking between those sets
is going to continue to increase and our
power is going to continue to decrease
so guys make sure that we scale that
weight accordingly it might look like
many of you moving a weight in
reference to your one-rep max that is
close to about fifty percent or about
sixty percent of your one-rep max as we
start to go much further over that into
seventy seventy-five or eighty percent
we're going to start to see the
intensity start to lower. For the
handstand push-ups today guys if you
can't do at least ten in a row on the
wall I'm gonna have you guys scale back
to either less reps or a scaled version
of the handstand push-up. Now, sidebar
when I teach my athletes uh how to scale
a movement like the handstand push-up in
the pull-up and the muscle up and the
toe to bar. Once they have gained the
ability to do an RX movement
I'm never really going to encourage them
to scale back to a more governed movement, right?
I don't want athletes that can do a few
handstand push-ups on the wall to go to
a box anymore i don't want athletes that
can do a pull-up on the rig, to do pull-ups
with a band anymore unless for some
reason we're doing strict and they need
to accumulate a certain amount of reps
or something like that but for this
situation where the intensity is the
desired priority I want to make sure
that my athletes that can even do a few
handstand pushups can do these in the
workout.
What that might look like is instead of
21-15-9 the athletes that can do 10
handstand push-ups in a row are going to
scale to a workout that's more like 12-9-6
or even 12-6-3
now i'm going to continue to keep the
deadlift the same and by all means after
the workouts over they can spend more
time accumulating reps and getting
density work in an increasing that work
capacity by doing extra after the
workout but they keep that unique
stimulus that four-minute window
those are some ideas on how to scale
this workout. Now one of the things that
I want to help you guys to understand
big picture is that when Coach Glassman
came in and he designed crossfit one of
his biggest selling points and obviously
I'm not inside his his a very
intelligent and ingenious brain as he
executed this thought process but he
created a system that was prescribed for
the best athletes that would come in and
want to try this and then he scaled it
for the rest of them.
So what this man is that the elite
athlete could walk into our gym right
now that could excel at crossfit a very
high level or division one football
player basketball or wrestler could come
in with high work capacity and high
skills and execute this workout beside
and athlete that is 70 years old and
has never participated in a sport in
their entire life
now how we use that as coaches and how
we use that as gyms is what is going to
continue to separate the quality of the
product that we give, the service that we
give is going to be uniquely measured
how you can scale your workouts for
particular individuals with injuries age
and work capacity variances and then
also how you can challenge the elite
athletes that walks through your gym. One of
the common things that comes up my gym
as athletes like Adrian you were trying
to kill us,
this workout was miserable, I think that
sometimes you over reach for the general
population of our gym and you know I
listen to them
of course they're their community that
makes my gym however the thing that
you've got to consider is that I want to
continue the program for the very best
and scale for the rest. So, if you come
into my gym and you notice that you can
only RX one workout every week
that's okay, you're RXing one workout
right now what I want to create that
kind of environment? Absolutely not. My
goal is to program a well balanced
approach where athletes feel like on any
given day they had that chance when the
workout drops that they can prescribe it
hinted at the RX level but I also want
to continue to even challenged the best
athletes that walk into my gym. We have
athletes here that will participate in
the crossfit games this year and i'll
tell you right now that I hope that I
continue to write up workouts or even
once, twice a year, three times a year
that they have to themselves scale back
and the reason is because i'm trying to
continue to push the margin of the
experience for everyone in my gym i
think if you guys do this continued as
athletes as gym owners as programmers or
head coaches, whatever role that you play
in your community continue to allow
those athletes to shoot for the stars
and land on the moon even as they scale
your workouts that you'll continue to
rise your whole community in their
fitness level. So guys, the question that
we often asked is "When am I going to be
able to not scale workouts?" and in your
pursuit of CrossFit and your highest
level of fitness that hopefully your
hungrily chasing on your journey
the answer is never. You should always be
forced to scale something or some skill
because you should always be pursuing
the very next level. So don't get
comfortable with your current fitness
level and expect that you're going to RX
everything everyday guys scale more, more
often for the best results that you can
see.

Why Mentors Are So Important - Duration: 1:01.
My Business acumen:
I remember this one guy in particular, this Italian guy....
I went to him and my pitch to him was like
"Hey... let me do your drycleaning
and then convince your neighbor
to do your dry cleaning and you get
5% of.... it was very like
very.....
Low Level.
Entry-level business thinking.
He was like "This guy's a disaster."
He said let me teach you - he's got this
heavy Italian accent - Teach you concepts
Let me teach you Innovation, etc.
And so he began developing my acumen.
He would spend so much time with me...
and I had 0 idea why...
and this is when I really began
understanding the really beautiful
relationship. Having a mentor is an
intimate, very beautiful, very rare type
of relationship. And if you're so lucky
to have one, two, three... I really don't think of
mentors like you you don't typically
have five or ten of them. It's like
three to four... maybe five people that are
very close to you who get emotionally
invested in your growth and do it for
nothing in return.

Why Does Toothpaste Make Things Like Orange Juice Taste So Awful? - Duration: 3:22.
Why Does Toothpaste Make Things Like Orange Juice Taste So Awful?
You may think the reason toothpaste makes things like orange juice taste so awful is
simply due to the common mint flavor of toothpaste clashing with other flavors, but this isn't
actually what's going on here.
The real culprit is thought to be two compounds almost universally added to toothpastes -sodium
lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl ether sulfate, which are anionic surfactants, meaning they
lower the surface tension of water.
Why is that desirable in toothpaste?
Because it works as something of a detergent, and makes the toothpaste foam to help it spread
around inside your mouth easier.
Besides any cleaning effect, this has the by-product of making you feel like the toothpaste
is doing something, which toothpaste manufacturers have found to be a great way to get people
to buy more of their toothpaste.
Mint is added to toothpaste for this same reason, as it leaves your mouth feeling cool,
clean, and fresh, particularly if it's well distributed throughout your mouth.
As Tracy Sinclair, one-time brand manager at Oral-B stated in the book The Power of
Habit, by Charles Duhigg,
Consumers need some kind of signal that a product is working.
We can make toothpaste taste like anything — blueberries, green tea — and as long
as it has a cool tingle, people feel like their mouth is clean.
The tingling doesn't make the toothpaste work any better.
It just convinces people it's doing the job.
(Interestingly enough, besides any real cleaning effect, sodium lauryl sulfate is added to
shampoo for similar marketing reasons, as people perceive that foaming shampoo works
better than non-foaming, whether a particular brand's foaming shampoo actually cleans
better than some other non-foaming shampoo or not.)
Back to your taste-buds -the sodium lauryl sulfate interacts with your sweet taste receptors,
making them less sensitive, and thus dulling the sweet flavor.
In addition to that, it also destroys phospholipids in your mouth, which are compounds that have
the same type of effect sodium lauryl sulfate has on sweet taste buds, except the phospholipids
dampen your bitter taste buds.
The net effect is that your sweet taste buds are dampened while your bitter taste buds
become more sensitive.
So when you drink something like orange juice, which normally has an overpowering sweet taste
that masks an underlying bitter taste, it is going to taste drastically different -in
this case extremely bitter.
So if for some reason your morning routine includes brushing your teeth before eating,
you can simply find toothpaste that is free of sodium lauryl sulfate, and sodium lauryl
ether sulfate and the food you eat directly after shouldn't taste awful, unless you're
bad at cooking, of course.
Sodium lauryl sulfate has been shown to act as a shark repellent.
There is also evidence that it is effective as a microbicide when spread on your skin,
particularly effective in helping to prevent infection from viruses like Herpes simplex
and HIV, which are non-enveloped viruses.

FREE MAKEUP GRWM (Beauty Guru Parody) | Sarah May - Duration: 5:08.
Hi guys, it's Stacey and welcome to my first video here on YouTube, yay!
I've been wanting to make videos for literally my entire life but I'm finally doing itttt!
I just have a passion for beauty, ya know?
Like, I would literally die without makeup, so why not make videos about it?
Cause making videos is super easy, right?
But anyways, enough about little old me, today I'm doing a get ready with me using this
Rimmel London makeup!
Look how cute this bag is omg!
I've never actually, like, tried these products before, but I was just, you know, sent them
in the mail because I'm a beauty guru and companies send you products when you're
this important.
So I'm going to create a look with what they sent me, so let's see what I have!
Here we have BB cream in the shade Light, because I'm so white, can you see it?
...can you see it?
This is some Match Perfection foundation in the shade Ivory, it's a big bottle which
is great because I do my makeup three times a day, so I use a lot of it!
Oh, my camera isn't focusing, it's so silly!
This is a Colour Precise eyeliner, as you can see it's one of the ones with a felt
tip which is exciting because I've never used one of those before.
Here we have a Glam-Eyes Quad eyeshadow palette in the shade Smokey Purple, as you can see
it has instructions on the back which we won't be using because I'm a makeup professional,
who do they think I am?
Some kind of amateur?
This is a Magnif'eyes mono eye shadow in the shade Gold Record, no instructions on
the back, thank god, I'm much less offended now… why isn't my camera FUCKING focusing?
And this is some Moisture Renew lipstick in the shade Fancy, which is a pinky kind
of colour which is perfect… fucking USELESS camera
And finally this is a Provocalips kiss proof lip colour in the shade Make Your Move, which
is perfect for all the BOYS I'll be kissing at the clubs tonight!
Fuck it I give up.
I'm just going to start with the BB cream, I'm just going to put a little bit on my
fingers like this and then just rub it all over my face like this…
Perfect!
Oh thank god they got my colour right, I hate when makeup's just, you know, too orange for
you, ya know?
And now it's time for foundation, you know what they say, foundation is the foundation
of the look!
I'm just taking my brush – I know, it needs a wash, it's so dirty, but I just can't
be bothered to wash it – relatable right?
Make sure you get every part of your face, and that includes your ears… and over your
eyelids… but make sure you NEVER put it on your neck, because foundation is for your
face and your neck is not your face!
So for my eyes I'm going to use the purple ones, but that means the gold one isn't
being used!
So I'm going to take that, oops, open it and spill it all over the place, and use it
as a gold, glittery highlight!
It's almost as if this product was MADE for highlights, beautiful!
Now it's a little golder than what I'd usually use for a highlight, but I think the glitter just
makes my look just pop.
Now for the eyes, everyone says to start light in the middle and then move darker towards
the outside, but I'm a bit unconventional.
My face is a little bit wider so I think having the dark part in the middle really makes my
face a lot slimmer.
Honestly, don't worry about blending because I think it looks perfectly fine as it is.
See? It really slims out my face and really draws attention to my nose.
Not many people do this, but it'll catch on soon, I promise.
And now it's time for eyeliner!
Now I like to add a wing, which can be tricky to do, only us professionals know how to do
it right, so just bring it up a bit further than what you'd think you'd have to bring it up to, and
then you fill it in, just like that.
Perfect!
So now we've got that eye done, so we just have to repeat it on the other eye!
And don't worry if it's even because honestly, your face isn't symmetrical so why should
your eyeliner be?
And the very last step is my lips!
So now we've got… two different products… why the fuck wouldn't they realize I can
only use one product at a time!
God they're so stupid!-
I'm going to try this exciting looking one right here, once again, there's instructions,
which is a rude assumption to make-
Step 1 is to apply the colour, and if you've got small lips like me, make sure you do a
Kylie Jenner and overline them, just a little bit...!
There we go!
So now we've got that Kylie Jenner look, we just need to apply the clear stuff to set
it into place like this...
And we're done!
This is my finished Rimmel London look, thank you so much for sending me these products,
please feel free to sponsor me so I can make more money!
Overall I REALLY like these products, like, REALLY like them so please feel free to send
me more, and other companies, you can send me more too.
If you liked my very first YouTube video please feel free to give it a like because likes
really help me out guys, like REALLY help me out, and please feel free to leave a comment
telling me how pretty this look is!
But most importantly subscribe to my channel for videos like this every single day and
to join the Stacinator family!
I love you, like, so much, like, you're beautiful, you're amazing, keep watching
my videos so I can make more money, and, like, bye!
See you tomorrow!
But seriously, I did actually get sent this makeup.
So shoutout to Amplify, who are an Australia-based company who run a touring YouTube show called
Amplify Live which I think is similar to FanFest, I wouldn't be sure because I haven't been
to either of them because I live in the middle of nowhere.
Amplify actually picked me as one of their Breakthrough YouTubers, which is pretty cool,
so a huge thank you to the Amplify team, I'll throw a bunch of links in the description
if you would like to check them out.
I hope you enjoyed this video and let me know if you want Stacey to come back!
I'm uploading twice a week in January so I will see you very very soon with a brand new video, bye!

Why Are So Many Kids Allergic to Peanuts? (The Truth About Peanut Allergies) - Duration: 3:13.
So you have a kid.
You love your little bundle of joy: but then you remember.
Oh my god, the world is a scary place.
How can I protect my child??
[ScIQ Intro]
Naturally, you avoid all danger like the Plague.
You introduce new foods slowly.
You buy only the freshest organic produce so your little munchkin never, ever has to
ingest any nasty chemicals.
And you always, always insist that your kid avoids peanuts.
You know that kids can go into anaphylactic shock and DIE from peanuts, so your kid doesn't
come within ten feet of those evil little suckers.
But this is a big mistake.
By "protecting" your kids from peanuts, you might actually be giving them a peanut
allergy,
Let me explain.
Peanut allergy has been skyrocketing, quicker than pokemon-induced traffic accidents.
The number of kids allergic to peanuts tripled in the years between 1997 and 2008.
Peanut allergies are also super duper intense - many kids have to carry around an EpiPen
and can stop breathing upon contact with peanuts.
Which explains why we now have a 'no peanut butter' table at most kindergarten now,
and a whole bunch of paranoid parents desperately trying to keep their kids away from peanuts
just in case.
But research shows avoiding peanuts in childhood could be the REASON you're allergic to peanuts
in the first place.
HUH?
How does THAT work?
Basically it works like this - if you totally avoid something during childhood - when your
kids body is building up it's immunity - then the body doesn't have an opportunity to
build immunity against that thing.
So for example, just say you get your first exposure to peanuts when you're a baby.
Your body can't have a crazy immune reaction because its still learning how to react to
stuff, but it does remember what a peanut protein looks like.
So next time peanuts come into that kids life, the kids body is like - chill out guys, no
panic, it's just peanuts - 'day cool.
But imagine your kid never gets exposed to peanuts until on their 12 birthday when peanut
flour gets acidentally slipped in their birthday cake.
That kids body is going to be like - what the fu** is this peanut stuff, I've never
seen it before!
Quick have a reaction.
OMG panic!!!
To make peanut allergies less lethal, it' important to promote a child's immunity
at a young age by exposing them to that things - it's the same reason why kids get their
vaccinations when they're super little.
A study by the NIAID called LEAP-On found a bunch of kids whose parents or siblings
had a peanut allergy, and then exposed those kids to peanuts from the time they were babies
until the age of five.
The study found that 81% of those 'at risk' children had reduced their chances of becoming
allergic.
The study then asked those five year old kids to avoid peanuts for a year, and then try
peanuts again - for almost all those kids, they were still totally cool with peanuts
a year later - basically by eating peanuts for the first 5 years of life, they'd avoided
contracting a serious peanut allergy forever.
So basically, by giving babies peanut butter, you may be saving them from a deadly peanut
allergy later in life.
Obviously, some peanut allergies are going to be totally deadly no matter what.
That's why you should always talk to your doctor or pediatrician before you start them
on any specific diet.
So what do you guys think, were you one of those kids on the no peanut butter table in
kindergarten?
Let us know your thoughts on peanuts in the comments below.

So You're Thinking About Buying A Home? - Duration: 2:55.
Hey everybody! This is Matt Kelderman with
The Kelderman Group and I'm here with
Stephanie Johnston of The Johnston Team
and Service First Mortgage. Today we are
talking to you people who have been
thinking about purchasing a home. There
is a ton of information out there. Some
of it's scary. Some of its oversimplified
First-time homebuyers, there are so many
benefits to purchasing your own home. Make no
mistake, every month when you cut that
rent check your paying somebody else's
mortgage. Most of us, especially in
Dallas, are probably paying a rent that's
high enough to be a mortgage payment.
If you've been thinking about getting
into a home, there are a ton of benefits
to homeownership and a lot of loan
programs that may be right for you. I
wanted to sit down with Stephanie today
and have her go over what that process
looks like at the beginning and how you
can potentially get started. So one of
the very first things that you're going
to be looking to purchase a home is just
call. It's not as scary as you think it
is. We're going to take basic information
walk you through what we need to do. Going
over how much you need to save for a
down payment and options for that. Anything
that we need to work on. It doesn't
have to be "There's something that needs
to be worked on right now, we can't go
forward." It can be something that the
work-in-progress. I always take the
stance, especially that leads down
payment, unless you know how much you're
going to need to save, then you don't know
what to do. We want you to call to go
through that information, even if this is
something that's more of a long-term
plan, we are here to help. As it relates
to down payment, there are some really
good options that are going to be very low
down payment loans. FHA is a great loan
program! You do not have to be a
first-time homebuyer to use, but a lot of
first-time home buyers opt for this
program. It's flexible in terms of
qualification and you only need three
and a half percent down. Fannie Mae, which
is a conventional mortgage, also came out
with a 3% down first-time
homebuyers product. It's a really great
product, especially in today's market, to
get into a house for low down payment, low
monthly payments and again, as Matt said,
sometimes your mortgage payment might be
less than it is for rent.
Also, you've got a lot of tax benefits.
Once you purchase your new home
consult your tax advisor, but your
mortgage interest, your property taxes
and sometimes your mortgage insurance
are tax
deductible. Those are things that are
going to help you at tax time to get a bigger
refund. Having that homeownership goal
make it even more sense.
Absolutely! Homeownership is really
one of the first steps towards building
wealth, towards moving to retirement,
towards all those things that we get to
do is grown ups. If you've been
thinking about it recently and just have
questions and want to know how that
looks,
please reach out to us. Our contact info
will be in the description. We
look forward to hearing from you. We hope
this video has helped you clear things
up a little bit and look forward to
getting your first home. Have a great day!
