Verbs & Prepositions: WORK Plus Prepositions - English Vocabulary Word Lesson - Duration: 4:18.

Word Wednesday starts right now!

Hey guys! It's Michael here from Happy English and

it's time for another Word Wednesday vocabulary building lesson.

Today we're going to continue this month's theme of

verbs plus prepositions.

For this lesson, we're going to look at the verb work and

all of the different prepositions that go with work .

First we're going to listen to a story that has

these verbs and prepositions combinations in context.

After the story, I'm going to go through

and explain the meaning and usage

of each verb and preposition combination.

Are you ready?

Let's check it out.

Today, while I was working on some new YouTube

videos I was working with some new software.

I was a little surprised

because it was pretty easy to use.

You know I always get inspired when I'm

working here at the office.

As you may know, I've been working in international

education since 1994, but I've only been

working on YouTube videos for a few years.

And you know, since I post a lot of these lessons

on social media, sometimes

I wonder what it would be like

to work at a company like Twitter or LinkedIn or Facebook.

It must be interesting, but you know

there is nothing better than working for yourself.

Yeah, as I work on these lessons, I come up with

a lot of different thoughts.

OK! That's the story

and now let's check out the different combinations of

work and prepositions. \

We use WORK AT followed by a place or a task.

Jack works at the bank downtown.

The boss was working his desk all day.

I had a problem with my computer yesterday and

I was working at it for a couple of hours

until it was solved.

We can use WORK FOR followed by

a company a cause or a person.

Jack works for New York City finance downtow.

Jenny has been working for animal rights

since she was in college.

I heard Guy Kawasaki used to work for Steve Jobs.

Next, we use WORK IN followed by a field or an industry.

Jack works in finance.

I've been working in international education

for almost 25 years .

We use WORK ON followed by a task.

Jack works on finance reports for the bank.

I was working on my YouTube videos all morning.

We use WORK WITH followed by a tool

a body part or a person.

Freddy is a plumber so he works

with his hands.

Jack works with a computer and a financial calculator.

I worked with my uncle when I was in college

By the way, work out is a phrasal verb

and it means to exercise.

Danny works out at the health club on 53rd Street.

I need to work out but it's so difficult to get started.

Woodturning Heart For My Valentine Plus A Collet Flop - Duration: 7:10.

Hi, Alan Stratton, from As Wood Turns (www.AsWoodTurns.com) I want to make this wooden heart for my valentine.

As I pondered this project, I ran into some problems because it needs to be a cylinder

to make the heart out of.

How do you finish the end of the cylinder?

Well, I've tried the long nose chucks before but they generally make a mark.

So, I thought I'd use a collet system.

I have a collet system.

This is one that I purchased a long time ago but I've never ever used it.

It does fit my lathe.

What it is, in effect, a clamping system; this is a tapered ring that will contract

as it is forced in to hold the tenon of a project.

But, I wanted to do the project that you could do also.

So, I decided to make a collet that fits in my chuck and use the chuck to grip the cylinder.

I failed.

This one broke and did not quite do the job.

So it is back to the drawing board on that one.

The principle of this collet is still intriguing to me.

It is used a lot in metal working.

I think it could be used some in woodworking.

Probably not to the extent of being worth buying an official chuck.

But the principle may be well worth deploying.

I need to refine it a little bit more.

After you see my mistakes in this video, please comment with your suggestions on how to use

collets better in woodturning.

And how I can hollow the insides of this heart at the same time.

Let's make this little heart out of hazelnut.

The hazelnut branch is small enough to fit in the chuck jaws just barely.

Otherwise, I would mount it between centers.

I only need to hold it long enough to cut a tenon with my skew.

Anything else is a bonus.

So I'll do some rough rounding right now for a bonus.

Next, for this project, all that I need is a cylinder about one inch in diameter.

I'm roughing with my bowl gouge and finishing with my skew.

After a thorough sanding, it's time to part off the cylinder.

This one is easy.

But I need to sand the other end.

Previously, I prepared a short cylinder of cedar just a bit longer than the depth of

my shark jaws.

To make them useful, I need to drill a hole that is the same size as my cylinder.

However, I don't have the correct bit so my hole is a little undersized.

I'll find out the impact of that shortly.

But, for now, I need to cut the collet from both ends at right angles to each other.

I want to leave just a little wood at the ends so I have to cut with the round side

down.

A couple of clamps make me feel safer with my hands more out of the way.

Now to put my collet to use.

But I find that the hole is slightly too small.

I drive the cylinder in anyway breaking the uncut ends of the collet where I had stopped

my saw cut.

Still, I manage to hold it enough and concentric enough to sand the end.

Back to the drawing board for a new wooden collet design.

With my cylinder sanded on both ends, I'm back at the band saw to cut it at a fairly

steep angle.

45 degrees would result in a 90 degree angle.

So I'm aiming for a larger angle by eye not by protractor.

After test fitting the two ends, I need am even steeper angle and shorter pieces.

I carefully clamp them again and saw off a little more.

Whew – that was a white knuckle cut – Safe for me but I worried whether the cylinder

would survive.

Next, at the disk sander, I can smooth out the saw kerf and match the angles until I

like the shape.

It resembles a stylized heart.

I thought a lot about trying to hollow the heart.

But since the collette flopped, I did not attempt to drill out the center.

A twist bit against a slanted surface did not strike me as a good bet.

Now to glue the two pieces together.

I'm using Titebond original.

The extra dry time will not matter overnight.

But the glue squeeze out is much easier to sand than Titebond II.

Sanding now is with a sanding pad.

I need to sand the joint and round over the bottom of the heart.

Rather than using a drill press where I ram a bit into the heart somehow held on the table,

I mounted a bit to the lathe and I'm pressing the heart to the bit by hand to drill the

hole.

This works for small diameter drills.

For a hanger, I have a short length of silver plated wire.

I have a small diameter punch mounted to the lathe.

I'm wrapping the wire around the punch, and grabbing the ends with clamping pliers.

After winding the wire to a tight wrap, I can cut it to length.

Later, I'll glue it into the heart with CA glue.

That hole for the hanger is perfect to hold the heart while I spray it with rattle can

lacquer.

The drill bit into a hole in the offcut from the cylinder is a perfect spray stand.

Now to buff the heart and glue in the hanger.

This finishes my wife's Valentines day present.

How to Crochet Easy Cake Yarn Scarf by Naztazia plus Tips and Tricks - Duration: 3:08.

Today I'll show how to make this cake yarn scarf.

To do this I'm using one ball of Lion Brand's Mandala

yarn and a size H hook. To begin chain 37.

Skip the first chain and make one single crochet in each stitch across. I'm using

the back loops on the chain since the entire scarf will be done in the back

loops. Once completed chain one and turn your work. Make one single crochet

in each stitch across using the back loops only.

I like these row counters to help me keep track of my rows. It even fits

nicely on a crochet hook. Next it's important to measure your work. Your

scarf should be about 12 inches wide right now.

Gauge is also important. Gauge is usually the number of stitches across within 4

inches and the number of rows per 4 inches. The gauge for this scarf is 12

stitches by 14 rows. To get this pattern's gauge you might need to switch to a

different crochet hook. If you aren't using a row counter you can mark off 20

rows with paperclips. This way it's easier to quickly count. Continue

crocheting rows until you are at 30 inches, which is about 105 rows.

Let's talk about ending the work. To weave in securely first take a couple of

small stitches like this.

Then at the very last stitch it's important to pierce the center of the

yarn with your needle and then pull it through. That helps give a very secure

finish.

Ffor sewing you want to avoid bumps and lumps in your seams. To do this I like to

sew on a flat surface and put the top of a bin lid underneath where I'm sewing. To

sew I go under and then through. Then I move to the next side. Under and through.

Move to the next side. Under and through.

Once completed weave in the end securely. And that's how I make my cake yarn scarf.
