Today we're going to dig ourselves out of any hole in life by using
counter-intuitive motivation or in other words, we're going to stop complaining and slap any problem in the face.
If you're dealing with depression
laziness lack of achieving anything in life or you know, you just have fear of whatever
well stay tuned and you'll see how to deal with it. Now, let's go get the shovel and start with the video.
How do you motivate yourself? You watch a TED video?
Or maybe you call a friend or you read an inspiring story? That works for like
five seconds, or maybe you're writing new year's resolutions - that will work for like a month!
But what if I tell you you have the power
to dig yourself out of any hole in life without the help of anyone around you?
It's possible. It's not exactly what you think. That's why it's called counter-intuitive motivation.
I'm not gonna lie to you,
it's going to be very hard.
But master this and it will serve you for the rest of your life and you will be able to handle anything.
Depression lack of motivation or anything else that comes in your way. But seriously, how do you motivate yourself?
Let me know in the comments below and if you don't really have a strategy for dealing with hard periods in your life
well share with us what the issue is and let the community in the comments below help and maybe suggest some options for you.
So what do I mean by counter-intuitive motivation? What's the big secret behind it?
Well as most things in life, it's very simple set, but it's really hard to do and it goes like this -
JUST DO MORE
That's it. Just do more and what do I mean by that?
So for example, if you are having work problems or if you're lacking motivation at work
or if you're buried with a lot of work - just do more work.
If you are dating people and you're not finding your mate, and you're sick of dating well -
don't stop just date more people.
If you are failing your goals,
which basically happens to anyone - just set bigger and greater goals to chase after. Even if you are in a depression
this method helps, but the approach with the depression is a little bit different. (fight or flight)
So I'll leave that example for the end of the video.
We as people have
unlimited power and
just think about it what point of evolution we have reached right now and we haven't done this by just
basically sitting around and doing nothing or feeling sorry for ourselves.
We have overachieved time and time again.
We all have this power inside us and it's all about just unleashing it and
finding a way to put it into action. Let's get straight to the real life examples and you know what I mean?
It's kind of warm already.
Winter is almost gone, I guess.
Very common reason for losing motivation at work is that we just have too many things to do.
My answer to this is just bury yourself with more work and more important tasks.
This way you're going to increase your focus tenfold and you'll actually see that you have plenty of time
but you are wasting most of it on complaining, little details,
wasting your time with different tasks and not doing what you actually have to do.
Moreover, the few tasks that you had in the beginning and you thought are going to bring you slow dead, because there's so many and so
important, you will have the power to deal with them much quicker and just move to the more important tasks that will give you greater
achievements at the end of the day. It's very simple. Just when you think you have a lot of things to do
just add more and more
important tasks on your list and you'll see the changes. I remember the beginning of this year.
I was complaining and I was really demotivated, because I was so extremely busy. I had to go to work. I was shooting videos,
editing videos, which takes a lot of time, then going to German classes,
of course, spending time with family and friends.
So it was really hectic and I was like, oh man this I cannot deal with this. It's so much,
so much work to do. At some point I was like
What the hell, why am I complaining so much? Why am I whining about this?
I want to also create online classes improve my photography skills.
I had to start traveling for work and and more and more and more tasks.
So I started adding them on the list and right away
I saw where I'm losing 10 to 15 minutes or even like one hour for things that really don't bring me value like watch
sports videos or whatever just laying in bed and so on and so on so. I had all this time around me,
but I was complaining that I didn't have time. What a hypocrite!
Come on, come on man!
A quick disclaimer. If you're having issues with sleep,
or you're not eating properly, or you're not exercising enough
this could be a reason for the lack of motivation or even depression.
Very often the cause is not where we think. It's somewhere totally different.
So before you bury yourself with different tasks, I will strongly recommend to look into those three things.
But the just two more principle works also in that kind of situation.
So for example when I'm not having enough sleep the previous night the next day, I'm grumpy,
I feel bad and you know, my mood is terrible and I feel like this is a really bad day.
But then I just find the motivation to do more things and more dynamic
things during the day so that my day is actually quite busy and it passes really quickly. So is it a good sound?
okay, so
Your day passes like like this and it's already
bedtime by the end of it and you're going there and you feel satisfied that you have achieved everything in this day.
So what if you are behind on your goals and you're thinking to quit? That I think happens to everyone, including myself.
Well, that would be the worst thing to do quitting on your goals is like quitting on life. At that moment what you should do
is just set greater goals and more goals.
So for example, if your aim is to save let's say 1,000 dollars. Well, just change it into saving $100,000.
What that would do is just
completely change your perspective.
Saving $1,000 is one thing. Cutting out, whatever,
$100 from your paycheck and just saving it might be difficult with the salary that you have right now, but if you want to have
$100,000 you need to start making more money. So it's a complete change of the perspective.
It's not like I'm earning right now this much and from that I'm going save some money
It's like how do I earn more in order to reach my goal?
Completely different! With goal-setting basically sky's the limit
and it's up to us to decide where the limit is. We all have this unlimited power.
It's all a matter of are we going to use it or not?
Finally some clouds!
What if you're struggling to find a partner you're dating different people and
things don't work out or your Tinder dates want just some very weird stuff from you and nothing really happens
and you're at the point
where you just want to quit and you're like hell, I'm gonna just stop dating and I'm not gonna do anything
I'm gonna live by myself for the rest of my life. I don't care! But that doesn't really make sense.
Just think about it. What's your goal?
Your goal is to find someone to spend the rest of your life with, have kids and so on and so on.
So if you stopped dating how exactly you're going to find this person?
So what I would do is just continue dating more and more people if you're going out only with idiots -
well, that's freaking great. It's amazing, because dating is basically a numbers game.
You have to play with the statistics.
Imagine this that in your city or in your country you have what like
five percent of the people are your type that you're going to have some kind of connection and
you have what like 1 million people living in the area.
Well if you have dated hundred of them
this means that your chances of success are just going to increase in the future because you have met with a lot of idiots or
people you don't get along with and you're like, okay now my chances of meeting someone great are increasing.
Does this make sense?
Just go out there and meet more and more people and that's the best chance that you're going to find your soulmate.
According to the World Health Organization around 300 million people around the world are in depression.
But that's only the people that actually admit it or know about it. So let's make it like 500 million.
So half a billion people are in depression and in order to get out of it there is something that I call the fight-or-flight method.
Imagine the following situation a friend of yours is in a life-threatening situation.
Something terrible has happened. Might not even be a friend of yours,
just a person on the street that you see and is in big trouble.
What would you do? You will just basically run to help and it doesn't matter what has happened to you.
You had a bad day at work, or you had an argument with your wife, or you're tired, or whatever.
Or demotivated, or depressed it doesn't matter you're going to run and help this person and
You're going to do anything possible in order to save him or her right?
In that kind of situation just replace the person with yourself.
If you are in a depression, just think about it. You are really in a life-threatening situation.
We're all always in a life-threatening situation.
In a situation of living a life without pleasure, without goals and without fulfillment. You can't let emotions
lead your life. There's always a balance.
After bad times come good times. It's not the optimist speaking inside me.
It's just how nature works.
Just think about it, after winter comes spring and there's always a cycle that you need to follow.
Knowing this, do everything possible right now to get out of the depression and just
move on with your life. Your life is really in danger.
So make everything to get yourself to a happier place.
If there's one thing that I want you to remember from this video is to change your perspective.
When we fall we tend to look only at the ground, but just get up and look around.
Don't forget that our brains are
extremely lazy.
So if they in a situation where your demotivated or you are depressed,
they would like to stay there and they will do anything
possible to not go out of this comfort zone.
So it's all up to us to make the shift, put in the work and make our brain crave motivation,
crave more work, crave a better life. That's it for this video guys.
Just do more, do great things and I'll see you in the next one. Ciao!
