Heat or Ice? Which to Use for Back Pain, Pulled Muscles and More, health tips, health care

Back pain, cramps, headaches. Some aches improve with warmth, while others benefit from cold. Heres how to find the right temperature for your troubles.

Recently, after an aggressive workout, I noticed that my hip felt tight and sore. A few days of stretching didnt bring any relief, so I tried a heating pad to loosen things up.

When my doctor recommended ice instead, I was surprised. But my MD was right—in the end, it was a cold pack that cured my pain.

Im not alone in being unsure about when its better to use cold or heat for aches and injuries.

Anne Rex, DO, a primary care sports medicine physician at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health says Theres definitely confusion—even for doctors—because there simply isnt much clear-cut evidence to guide doctors one way or another.

A good rule of thumb is to consider the timing of the injury. Is it new?

Dr.Rex says When it comes to acute pain, inflammation, and swelling, ice tends to win out. Cold slows the blood flow to an injury, reducing pain and swelling.

Heat, on the other hand, increases the flow of blood and oxygen, helping to repair damaged tissue—which can make it a better choice for older or chronic problems.

Evie Vlahakis, a physical therapist in New York City says For an injury thats older than six weeks, heat may help restart the healing process. Read on to discover your best remedy.

(Note: If you have diabetes or any circulatory problems, such as Raynauds disease, check with your doctor first.).

Sprained ankle -- > Ice. The best treatment for a sprain—as well as any new joint pain, swelling, or injury to muscular or soft tissue—is ice, coupled with rest, compression, and elevation (the combo is known as RICE).

Wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage and prop it up on pillows above the level of your heart.

Joyner, MD, a physiologist and anesthesiologist at the Mayo Clinic says Apply ice 30 minutes on, 20 minutes off for the first 35 to 48 hours after the injury.

Vlahakisse recommends a ziplock bag filled with crushed ice cubes, a frozen gel pack, or a bag of frozen peas molded over the muscle or joint. Place a towel under the ice to avoid skin irritation.

Pulled muscle -- > Ice, then heat. Hamstring or glute feeling tight after a tough workout? Dr. Rex says A new pulled muscle should be pulled as soon as possible, because you want to stop the inflammation.

But if the muscle takes weeks to heal or tends to act up down the road, try a warm compress—especially right before you exercise. And dont just jump into that workout.

Joyner says Rolling and moving the muscles before exercising dilates the blood vessels, which warms the muscles and ensures theyre supplied with oxygen. That helps increase flexibility and prevent further injury. .

Menstrual cramps -- > Heat .Mary Jane Minkin, MD, clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at Yale University School of Medicine says With cramps, youre not really suffering an injury.

The uterine muscle is tensing up and simply needs to relax, which a warm heating pad accomplishes, she explains: The heat may stop the production of prostaglandins—hormone-like chemicals produced by the uterine lining after ovulation—which stimulate the contraction of normally smooth uterine muscle.

Lower back pain -- > Ice or heat. You shoveled the driveway and now your back is killing you.

While you may be tempted to sit down on a heating pad to chase away the chill, if its a new injury—your back hasnt bothered you before—you should reach for an ice pack.

But if your back always seems to act up in the same spot? You could have underlying arthritis, and warmth may improve it.

Headache -- > Ice or heat. Dr Joyner says Check with your doctor if you havent experienced any relief after icing for 48 hours. She might suggest heat instead.

Fiona Gupta, MD, a neurologist at North Jersey Brain and Spine Center says Ice has a numbing effect, which can help with headache pain, especially migraines.

Place an ice pack on the painful spot in 10-minute intervals for 30 to 60 minutes.

Cold on the front of the neck may work, too: One study found that applying a frozen neck wrap there (targeting the carotid arteries) at the onset of a migraine significantly reduced pain.

However, for some, heat can help by relaxing tense head and neck muscles. Gupta advises using a heating pad in 10-minute intervals for 30 to 60 minutes.

Hemorrhoids -- > Ice, then heat. A cold pack will immediately reduce blood flow to the hemorrhoids, which are basically swollen and inflamed veins. Minkin says When they flare up, use an ice pack.

Once youve got them under control, you can try a warm water sitz bath, which is soothing. She also suggests using a hair dryer on low heat after a shower or bath to keep the area dry and prevent irritation.

Then you can use an over-the-counter hemorrhoid treatment cream.

Arthritis -- > Heat. Dr .Rex says Arthritis—chronic, painful inflammation of the joints—generally responds well to warmth. Dr . Rex adds Not only does the heat soothe and relax stiff muscles and joints, it also increases circulation, delivering more blood and nutrients to the area.

Vlahakis advises Use a microwavable heating pad or an old-fashioned hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Aim to apply it for only 15 to 20 minutes while lying or sitting in a relaxing position.

You could also try moist heat—a warm, damp washcloth, for example. Rex warns against electrical heating pads, which can be dangerous if you fall asleep while using one.

Stiff neck -- > Ice. Dr. Rex says Slept funny and woke up with a painful crick in your neck? Hit it with a blast of cold.

A stiff neck is definitely an acute injury, and the quicker you ice it down, the quicker it will feel better. Look for a way to mold the cold to your neck.

One good option: Soak a towel in icy water, then wring it out and place it on the back of your neck.

What about hot-cold creams? Dr. Rex says Wondering whats up with those sports creams that claim to be cold or hot (or both)? Many contain menthol or camphor, which creates a superficial cooling effect that can distract you from pain.

A warming sensation is produced by capsaicin (thats the ingredient that makes chili peppers spicy), which can interfere with pain signals in the body. But these creams cant actually change the temperature of your skin .

Trading or Investing, which is better? - Duration: 5:57.

Hi guys, hi from Andrea Unger: trading or investing?

this is a question that is often posed

and somebody claims that trading is not worth the effort because in investing,

at the end of the story, you make more money than in trading. I'm not claiming this is true

or that is true because it depends on many factors. I just want to compare these worlds

and to add my personal experience. I'm a trader, so obviously, I am in the trading world but I would

not I would not, not consider investing. What I believe is that in investing you have a

lower level of stress: you are supposed to invest in dedicated structures, funds or bonds

or stocks whatever, and you are supposed to allocate your money into these entities

and then forget about it , let's say, and wait; while in trading you are obviously strongly committed

and you are on a daily basis involved in the decisions; so when you invest you might

have an easier life in waiting for the results; while in trading you are always there wondering

whether what you do is right or wrong; well, when you're having a good period you don't

question anything, but when things go wrong obviously you start doubting..which is normal.

In investing you put your money into something where you believe that those who are, let's say, using

your money to produce profits are experts and you rely on them, while in trading you might fear

you are not good enough when things go wrong and this causes a lot of stress because

you are doubting about two things: what you have done, the work, and yourself your own

capacity: so this is a source of stress. On the other side, in this first case investing

could be considered better than trading, on the other side in trading you are directly

involved and you might have the feeling to keep things under control: you are free to

make all the changes that you want, you are free to add strategies to your portfolio, to

change those depending on the market situation, whatever, because it's you..it's you doing

things; the extreme concept of this is scalping, in scalping you are "pim pum pam" you're going in and

out you don't care about the direction of the market and you have a very strong feeling

of keeping your balance under control or at least of not depending on market fluctuation,

because short medium-term moves don't affect your position. You're scalping, you are jumping

in and out, so you don't care about that open position because there is no open position

lasting that long to put you in a situation to worry about it. So, scalping could bring extreme

benefits but I don't scalp because I don't think I could be a good scalper, I don't want

that level of involvement that you need in being a scalper, monitor involved mouse clicking

involvement; I am a trader, I would also consider investing, I'm not claiming which one is better.

I am trying to show you that whatever thing you choose, you have to make a careful choice:

investing you have to choose the right places to invest so you have some important decision to make

but if you decide to do it on your own, believing to be better than the dedicated Institutes,

that's fine but don't think you can do it in an easy way, don't think you can start tomorrow:

you need to be prepared to do it properly because if you don't, you would probably face

a disaster. So you can take your money under control provided you prepare yourself

duly; which means you study carefully what you can do and then, once you find out what

is the best thing that you feel you can do, you study the best way to do it. Which is not

a short path: don't believe in those who claim to transform you into a successful trader

with two or three lessons; it's very hard it's a long path, it can be done, but it needs a careful

and dedicated study of all -all- the matters which are involved. So guys, you can become

traders, you need to study hard but you can achieve it, if that is what you wish to do.

If you choose that only because you think it's a shortcut to success you better abandon it

because it's not the way to go. Ciao from Andrea Unger, see you next time!

Google Docs vs Dropbox Paper: Which To Choose?! - Duration: 10:09.

Hello, everyone and welcome back to another video so in today's video, we are putting

Head-to-head dropbox paper

Versus, google docs now for those, who, want to skip ahead to the certain, future that you want to hear about you can

Use the timestamps below, and also discover some of the useful functions that both of these applications have

So what we'll be doing is sort of going through the applications in general and then we're going to dive into

Some of the features that, make them really special so the first application, which is dropbox paper is clearly run, by dropbox!

It is an application that has been around for around

About two or three years now and it's been growing in popularity now for those who don't know

Dropbox is a cloud?

Storage site and essentially works allowing you to store any files or documents there

But the paper service essentially allows you to create, new

Documents or notes within the application and i would put the likes of google docs as a close competitor

Now google docs is a extension of the google drive cloud, storage service allowing you to create documents

Sheets and a host more but in this case we're just, going to be talking about google docs now. Google docs has been growing

rapidly

For maybe five six seven years now and is one big favorite for many many due to its

Collaboration function so dropbox paper although very, new

to the space has been able to add a host of different benefits now going on to dropbox paper you get a home docs and

Folders for organizing your different documents now from dropbox paper you can

Create, any new document you can, even use a host of templates as

Well which makes it really useful when it comes to saving time and starting, new

Projects now you can, also create a specific meeting note, which can be attached to your calendar, which makes everything a lot easier

Now if you want you can import any documents in most of the formats which is very helpful and?

of course once you've created the document you can, organize them into folders

now of course dropbox paper has a search functionality but one of the big bonuses

Is that it has this to do function allowing

You, to select something within your text to to do later so you can actually see per document, what you need

To, get done or even per date as, well because you can, assign due dates to those items to

This is one of the more recent functions inside of dropbox paper and one of these spirits, is that many people are enjoying

The specific things that people love, about dropbox paper are the

Conversational functions on the right hand side you can collaborate with, other people as well that's something you can

Do inside of google docs but people like the ability to add gifts, and emojis and a bit more conversational when you're already using

dropbox

Now if you, want inside of any of the dropbox paper documents you can

Add videos or images or even gifts that are more interactive allowing

You, to see them in line without any worries at

Any given time you can invite individuals to the dropbox paper you can, see the document history you can

Word count it you can, even present it print it and download it or add it to a

File star it or follow it which allows you pretty much all the access points that you need to get things done

Now a more recent feature that's been added to dropbox paper is allowing you to edit the template so you can create your own templates

To, share with others almost creating this, base now

Within dropbox paper documents you can, add dropbox files any multimedia you can, add images you can

Also, add tables to to-do lists as, well as bullet points and many more options, like, numbered lists adding

Break, break section breaks and also code too

Now, many people have rewarded dropbox paper with a more

Interactive experience allowing users to be a little more spacious with, their experience creating their

Own workspaces and allowing them to manage projects easier especially with the lengths of the things to do function as

Well as the multimedia and of course the meeting agendas function, is something that don't separate it from the likes of google docs

So moving on to google docs the experience is very easy to get on with many people have regarded this one of the best

Experiences and probably the most consistent now google docs is of course available on ios and android

So is the droplets paper as, well however the experience has been around

A little longer on google docs now if you, want to create your own, new

Brand new document you can and of course organize it in a folder system, which

Google, drive allows you to, do but you can, use one of the templates as

Well so you can actually choose it from a template they have a host of templates including flights of resumes brochures and project proposals

Now many people have?

Regarded google docs as the best way to collaborate you can invite someone to it using an open. Link they

Don't necessarily have to have a, google account to allowing them to modify the document without, any, worry as

Well as being able to add hundreds of people at

Any given time now the great thing is you can

Add that like saved images tables and a host of other functions inside of a

Google doc and they, also have an atom's function, allowing you to add a host more

in terms of the visual experience

google docs doesn't really scream beauty but it does have a pretty simplistic design

It's almost like an online version of word which it pretty much is and does allow you to do a host of beneficial things

One of the things that many people like, is the sort of like add-on

Tools that you can have so you can use a function called explorer to see different items or research items you can

Use dictionary you can, even use your, google keep notepad in there to to make other notes you can, use voice typing as

Well which is a stand-alone function, allowing you to essentially type up something using your voice

There's a host of add-ons as, well so if you've installed them you can you can install them through the google chrome

google docs web store i think it's called and

Using, these, allows you to add a little bit of tasters it's almost like apps for your

Google docs now the collaborative functions are really easy to get on with and many people sort of give a massive head

Nod to them for progressing this in a space

Now creating a, google doc is pretty easy but one thing i would say

Is it's pretty bloated in terms of its experience it very static

Unlike, drum bolts paper, which is a bit more fluid and open and very much a

More media focused experience now in terms of the pricing side of stuff of course you need for dropbox paper

access to a

dropbox account the droplets account obviously needs i think you get two gigabytes free i want

Add that inscription because it's been

A long, time since i checked that but you need a dropbox account to access that you

Also need a google account to access google docs as

Well but you get a 15 gigabyte drive access which is very helpful for all?

accounts in and out of default experience

So in terms of the storage amounts

Google docs wins here only slightly but, again, you know creating documents inside these applications unless you're adding

Hideous amount of media aren't gonna fill your storage up that fast

So guys, you're probably wondering, who is the winner, what do i use now the winner here i am not

Going to give any awards i would say google docs is a very strong and reliable

Tool but i would give the more progressive tool, and fluid tool

And the one would more potential to dropbox paper

Especially due to the meeting agenda functions things to do functions and a much more but i can see google docs having a sort of

Rebrand or reskin very soon so you're probably wondering

Which one do i use and it totally depends on what experience you go with now i highly recommend keeping your

Experience if you are uploading files and documents into the same service so for example if you're a

google

Drive story or somebody stole stuff there then i would use google docs if i was a dropbox news are

Aggressively then i would probably, use dropbox paper but in this case, what i highly recommend is review?

What works best for you, what i would say is if you're in a design or more media focus team?

Dropbox paper is gonna work great for you and i think a lot of people will appreciate it as

Well as you as a creative, maybe being a bit more open, and fluid but, google docs is a bit more rigid

When you're, making proposals and business documents it does feel a lot, better and more prefer to some extent

Obviously all of this might change in the next

Year so do keep out for videos here on the keep it up to youtube channel for any updates but there are a ton of

Other videos if you, want to go and enjoy them any of you guys i hope that you enjoyed this video let me know

What you think of dramas paper versus, google docs which one have you gone with

Which one are you using now it'd be great to hear so guys you can

Also claim a two months free skill share below

If you, want it is a resource so long as you two learn loads of new things so if you

Want to go deeper with

Google docs maybe there probably is a course there for it

And if we're going is i hoped you enjoyed this video let, me know in the comments

Below what your thoughts are it'd be great to hear from you without further

Ado thank you very much make for a great week, key productive see you guys very very soon that was very fast cheers

Everything we know about the 'Captain Marvel' movie, which will be a must-watch before 'Avengers 4' - Duration: 3:47.

Everything we know about the 'Captain Marvel' movie, which will be a must-watch before 'Avengers 4'

The post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War teased a big addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Next year, Brie Larson will bring her to life.

The Captain Marvel movie will give us a better idea about how Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) knows the character well enough to contact her in a moment of crisis.

The character, whose real name is Carol Danvers, gains superpowers after being exposed to alien technology in the comic books. If the post-credits scene of Infinity War is any indication, shell play a pivotal role in finally defeating Thanos.

Theres a lot to know about the character and you can read more at Business Insider. But how much do we know about the actual movie?.

The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday that Annette Bening is joining the cast, so weve looked at everything else we know about it so far. Below is everything we know about next years Captain Marvel movie:.

The movie comes to theaters March 8, 2019 — two months before the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, which is released May 3. It will be the 21st movie in the MCU.

The official synopsis for the movie says that the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Oscar winner Brie Larson is in the title role.

Larson won the Oscar for best actress in 2016 for Room. She is also known for Kong: Skull Island, Short Term 12, Free Fire, and The Spectacular Now. The movie is set in the 1990s and co-stars Samuel L.

Jackson as Nick Fury — before he lost an eye. The period setting means that other MCU characters thought gone can return.

Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson, who died in The Avengers but was resurrected in ABCs Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show. Guardians of the Galaxy characters Ronan (Lee Pace) and Korath (Djimon Hounsou) will also return.

Ronan is of an alien species called the Kree. In the comics, Captain Marvel gains her powers when exposed to Kree technology.

Other notable cast members include Jude Law as Mar-Vell, who in the comics is a Kree military officer and the first Captain Marvel. Ben Mendelsohn, who is playing the films villain.

Its unknown exactly who his character is, but hes likely playing the leader of the shape-shifting alien race the Skrulls, who are at war with the Kree. Ben Mendelsohn in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story  .
