Grimey!
Old!
And dirty!
(Screams).
Sound familiar?
Panic not because here's how you can make your UPVC windows look brand new in just a
few simple steps.
Firstly, make sure your window and window sill is clear of any debris.
Take a mould and mildew spray and spray it in any area affected my mildew.
Leave it to do it's thing (according to the instructions on the bottle) then wipe clear.
Also bear in mind this type of spray may fade any paintwork around the window.
Next, mix up a diluted bleach solution.
Do this using a small amount of thick bleach then top up with warm water.
Using a cloth (and with your marigolds on) give the window frame a wipe all over - getting
into all those nooks and crannies.
If you're worried about using a bleach solution on your windows, always test in an inconspicuous
area first.
Now we'll clean the inside of the window frame.
Do this by opening the window then cleaning using a toothbrush and some washing up liquid.
We use washing up liquid here because that way you won't have bleach spraying everywhere
when you're scrubbing with the toothbrush.
Then wipe away any excess water.
Another great way to make your windows sparkle is to replace the handles.
Firstly, remove the screw that's only accessible when the window handle is open, then lock
the window handle shut.
Now prise off the screw cover or sticker on the other side of the handle, then remove
this screw as well.
You should then be able to simply pull the handle off.
Also give this area a wipe so it's nice and clean, then get your new handle.
What's great about these is you can get them really cheap - because I got this sparkly
gold one for just £7.50.
Now insert the same sized spindle of the old handle into the new handle then push into
place on the window.
Firstly screw into place using the screw hole that's only accessible when the handle is
closed, then place on the screw cover.
Then open the window and fix on the second screw.
Next we'll seal around the window.
Using an anti-mould bathroom sealant that matches the colour of your window frame, seal
around all the edges between the frame, wall and window sill.
Then simply tidy it up using a sealant finishing tool or your finger.
Once you've done all your edges, leave the sealant to dry then use some window cleaner
to clean the glass.
There you have it, that's how easy it is to make your PVC windows look brand new in just
a few simple steps.
