- Guys, it's a long December, and there's no reason
to believe maybe this year will be better than the last.
But, you got to try it, right?
Today we're talking about ways to navigate
the holiday season because Dad's What's Up.

Congratulations, you made it through another year.
Wait, no you didn't.
You have a whole nother month of holiday parties,
buying presents, wall-to-wall Christmas music,
and elves on shelves, it's the finale of the year.
You put in some good practice.
You threw a killer fourth of July barbecue,
made some good Halloween costumes,
and who wouldn't want to do Thanksgiving again
right away and add in religion and money?
Plus, you can pick up that political discussion
you were having with your Uncle Rick
right where you two left off.
Here are a few ways to make your holiday season
a little bit easier.
Number one, get ready for those parties.
Now, a holiday party is a party
that you don't want to go to, but you have to.
Make it easy on yourself.
Get in there, show your face, eat some food,
show your face again, and then split.
You could try to have fun at a holiday party,
you could also try to have fun at jury duty.
You do you.
Number two, now lots of families try to spice up
the holidays with crazy gift giving games.
Exchanging gifts is fun, but do you know what's even better?
Rules! The Yankee Swap,
now with this, you get a gift, and then everyone else
can like steal it from you.
I don't a hundred percent understand the rules,
and neither do you.
Why are we doing it?- We're not.
White elephant, under this system, let's be clear,
we are all exchanging trash from our house.
Say that again out loud and see how it sounds to you.
Trash from our house.
Right? Is it me?
Secret Santa, now I don't hate it.
It's a good way to limit the number of presents
that everybody has to buy.
Let's see who I got... Brian.
There's nobody in this family named Brian.
Oh, this is my niece's boyfriend.
Brian, when you're here, you're not family,
but at Olive Garden...
Rule number three, there's really only one gift
that you've got to get right.
Mine.
Now, a lot of people pride themselves on being
good gift givers, that might be a talent,
but it's wasted on me.
You know what isn't wasted on me? Money.
Have you ever opened an envelope full of cash and been mad?
I get it though, it's tricky.
There's no one central place for dad gifts.
There's no dad shop or shopthedad.com, or
shop.thedad.com or go to thedad.com and click on shop.
You can't just get great dad gear like t-shirts,
hats, and mugs, it's a shame.
But until that day comes, don't sweat the small stuff.
The holidays are a time to see your family
and play with your kids, even if they did make you
a gift out of toilet paper rolls.
Keep it fun.
