What you are about to watch now
will make lots of dudes angry AF.
I don't think that this great songs need presentation.
Halo as a franchise has always been distinguished for it's music
to the point of been considered as something emblematic
that has formed it's identity
and made it stand out between other games.
It has had many masterpieces
that can't be mistaken for something else.
In my opinion, each game has
had good musical elements
but between these albums,
there are those that I personally prefer over other ones
.This video will expose them 1 by 1
until that one that won my addiction.
Cherlo:
WHICH HALO GAME HAS THE BEST SOUNDTRACK?
I'll go from my least favorite to my most favorite.
In the last spot,
#10 Halo Wars 2
Don't get me wrong,
I really loved this OST
and to me it resembled a bit to the first one.
And definitely has many moments
that can make itself feel like something that identifies with the Halo franchise.
But the very few cutscenes and the fact that most of the time they were only
ambientation for the gameplay moments, kept it from being as high as the others.
In 9th spot, there is a tie.
But calm down,
this is the first and last one.
Halo: Spartan Assault & Strike.
Now,
I have a special respect for this 2 soundtracks.
The cause: their composer,
Mr. Tom Salta, understood
perfectly how does Halo sounds originally.
Like Halo, and just Halo.
This guy was hired for Halo CE Anniversary
and so, there is no doubt
that he got completely immersed
of this talent.
When he retouched second by second
all the songs in the first game.
Assault & Strike returned
to the traditional mode
in which Halo melodies sound.
I think their music is not regarded as deserves.
In the 8th spot: Halo 5 Guardians
I know it may seem weird to put it
below Halo 4's
because Halo 5 also had some
songs that resembled those
of the first 3 original titles
as well as instruments and sound
that has more relation with them, thus contradicting my eariler "Halo identity" point.
And I really doubted on putting it here.
However, I also must consider that music in the
world of videogames, is more than just listening itself.
The cause for me having to let the
OST of Halo 5 here, is that in
the campaign, it went right past me 99% of times
without noticing.
It's no secret now that 5's story was a failure,
and partially that hit the music experience.
In other words, in those missions
the music failed at
integrating itself and emphasize what
was happening, becoming repetitive,
boring and barely noticeable and present
from my point of view. Although... how can I blame it with that story to develop?
#7: Halo 4
I have aways believed that Halo 4 is full of things that
no one appreciated, and the music is susch one.
This time it had 2 composers:
Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi, who
was the only one in Halo 5. Dangerous move.
It always appeared to me that this is the
opposite of 5's OST, taking a much more
electronic style and departing a lot from the tone
that the Bungie games had.
Marty O'Donell himself said it once,
"ancient, epic and mysterious"
It is strange for Halo 4 to combine
these 3 elements at the same time.
That celtic, prominent style.
But especially, I hold it as the opposite of 5's
because of how perfectly it can connect
with the great story and adds quality.
Not lying,
Halo 4's soundtrack could touch my
soul and make me feel, most of the time.
Also, it brought a lot of variety,
making sure to feature tracks that could
deliver any type of sensation to it's pinnacle.
It was VERY hard to me to let it here.
I would really have loved if I
could give it a better position.
But that missing HALO ingredient...
#6: Halo Wars
There are little things this soundtrack did wrong.
One of them, it was only playing safe
in the back during gameplay almost always.
But it didn't stop there though.
The thing that saves it from being below H4
because Stephen Rippy,
the composer,
did a work that I run out of words to describe.
If someone told me that Marty did this
before I knew, I would easily believe it.
It has that style that Halo 4 forgot.
Plus, Spirit Of Fire is here.
#5, we start with Marty,
entering the major leagues.
Halo 3.
It may sound very stupid to put it here.
But just think in which ones are missing.
Now, I consider H3 to be the best in the
series generally, because
it built upon great features from Halo and Halo 2.
And Marty did an outstanding job.
Though, lots of the best songs
that decorate this genius work
are remakes or remixes inspired in songs from H1 and H2.
It's a pure taste of Halo.
It made me experiment feelings to an extent
that I never imagined. Nostalgia,
deep lament, horror,
wonder and mystery,
a war out of scale, you name it.
It's married perfectly to the incredible campaign.
#4:
Is Halo 3 ODST... OST.
Marty said this baby
was his most personal creation.
There are LOTS of things that make this
compilation, pure gold.
I really admire that for the 1st time,
he used no songs that
were previously present, and achieved something
that felt very familiar simoultaneously.
Those pianos and saxophones, mixed with the
rampant action, guitars and drums, all got me
to feel that even the silence was a belonging part.
New Mombasa being this emmersive, helped it to be impossibly atmospherical.
It's inspiring. It ALMOST arrived to my top 3.
Now, the third one, is no other than Reach.
What can I say about this godly tracks
that hasn't been said?
Clearly, one of Marty's most brilliant works.
To this day I'm blown away
how it can be as varied as it's
neighboors, while also keeping
that dark, desperate ambient that dresses the campaign.
Of course, it's different,
because Halo Reach has a very diferent focus.
But the music is perfectly
like something I'd expect from a
Halo game, regardless of the changes and new
dimensions explored when writing it.
#2: Halo. That's right.
The first. The one and only.
Father and architect.
This small piece of total perfection is an
icon in the world of videogames.
Again, every single thing that made the other
titles I mentined sound magnificent,
are here, and are flawless.
Nothing can make me feel Halo
more, that the timeless soundtrack
of this classic.
Remeber when I said that H3 took
many songs from here and from Halo 2?
Well, those games CRAFTED them.
That brings me o the highest spot, the final boss,
THE SOUNDTRACK OF HALO 2.
I can't tell how many times have I
heard it from start to finish.
For me, Halo 2 has the best story
and the music only contributes to show it.
It feels so natural
every note so perfectly placed,
that it makes me think that those scenarios actually sound like that.
I just can't believe it.
Variety has no rival here,
with the craziest, most epic songs the industry
will ever see,
as well as others that can deeply be felt
so desolate, or so profound and vast, I can't expres it.
There's not 1 that I don't hold as true art.
But I don't want to make the video
90 hours long by speaking about this master.
But I haven't even mentioned that it
brought actual rock gods together, like Hoobastank, Incubus, Breaking Benjamin
or Steve Vai himself.
With what they performed here,
alongside Marty's ability at it's peak,
I can't think of one that's better.
If you liked the video,
please show it by leaving your like.
Suscribe to avoid missing any more videos,
Because for you are coming.
This was Cherlo Jomz. Until the next one.
Hope you have the best day ever.
