hey guys if you're going to make it in our business without going crazy

you have to learn to let it go you have to learn how to blow your steam off and

just keep going

hi guys Ned here from Waiters Academy helping you make a lot of money and have

beautiful life working as a waiter if you're taking everything too deep and

personally eventually your life is going to turn into a miserable existence that

is in general for all the people in the world but we as waiters interact on a

daily basis with all kind of people crazy idiots

stupid friendly drunks and so on and so on therefore you have to learn to let it

go in trust me I know better than anyone that this is very hard to do but it's

still good to remind yourself that you are the most important person in your

life and wasting your nerves on something that's already happened and

there is nothing you can do about it it's not a good thing

offer your sincere apologies if the guest takes it beautiful move on if he

doesn't take it apologize again side with him tell him that you understand

that you have made a mistake and it's unacceptable if he doesn't take it again

walk away tell your manager that you have a prick on table 5 and let him do

with that most of the time the guest will understand and not make a big deal

of it. They see that it's a busy time you're running hard and they will

forgive you just move on to do your job so the bottom line is don't get involved

deeply with your mistakes try to solve the problem as quick as possible if not

let the management handle it if you stay with a problem you're gonna

lose your track with all your tables you're gonna break your rhythm and

you're gonna have more problems and you don't want that. And guys don't forget we

Wait! Don't Close The Sale - House Cleaners Walk Away - Duration: 7:41.

Wait, don't close the sale.

What? I need the money.

I know, we're going to talk about that today.

Reasons why you should not close the sale.

Hi there, I'm Angela Brown and this is Ask a House Cleaner.

This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,

and I get to help you find an answer.

Now today we're going to cover the concept of getting to a customer's house to bid

a job, and then closing the sale.

It's a really interesting phenomenon, but there will be times when you go to bid a job

at a customer's house, and you discover when you get there, that in fact you should

say no and walk away.

Now, this is an interesting question and it comes up every day in conversation with house

cleaners that I'm working with.

I turned around I asked house cleaners in my networking groups, "What are the reasons

why you would say no when you get to a customer's house and you need the job, and the customer

is willing to hire you?"

Well, there were some legitimate excuses, and some of them were things like,

"The customer lives too far away.

They're not in the realm or the area that I'm working in."

That is a perfectly valid excuse.

There were other reasons like, "I get a vibe, and the customer is just creepy.

Then I have to say no and walk away."

Then there were some that were very interesting, where some of the house cleaners would say,

"I get to the customer's house, and they're like hoarders.

Their home is overwhelming to me, and I know that I could not clean their house in a 10

or a 12-hour window.

It's too much for me to take on, and I have to turn and walk away."

There are other reasons why house cleaners would say no to a customer

and refuse their business.

I know for me one time, I went to a lady's house, and I bid the job.

As I walked through her house,

she took a lot of pride in these little trinket collections that she had.

They looked like little ornaments that were made of glass,

and they were from all over the globe.

I asked her, just because I've been in the business long enough, and I kind of know some

of the questions to ask,

"Have any of these items ever been broken in a house cleaners care?"

She said, "Oh yeah, one time a lady broke this, that, and the other."

And she goes on to tell how she put the lady out of business because the house cleaner

broke the time, and it was thousands of dollars supposedly, and the house cleaner offered

to replace it, and she would not let her replace it because she refused and said, "It was irreplaceable."

The house cleaner then offered to barter house cleaning in exchange for whatever the value

or worth of that trinket was.

She said, "Oh no, I just took to social media and I put that girl right out of business."

Then she started telling me about how one of them got stolen, and so she took this other

house cleaner to court and insisted that she repay the, whatever it was, the value of the

lost item.

She went on, and on, and on, and on, and had all these amazing stories, how she had put

so many house cleaners out of business.

Okay, so I'm walking through her house with her, and while she seemed like a lovely lady,

in my head I'm thinking, "There's no price under which I will work for this lady.

She's run 40 house cleaners, supposedly, out of business.

I don't want to be number 41.

There is no joy in working for this lady.

No one wins," right?

At the end, she said, "So, how much will it cost for you to come clean my house?"

I said, "You know, in our conversation I discovered that you're a lovely person, but we are not

a good fit for each other."

She was like, "No, no, no, I will pay whatever you want."

"Oh, no, no, no, you don't understand.

We're just not a good fit for each other," and I walked away.

A couple days later she calls me up.

She said, "Okay, listen.

I was asking for a discounted price.

I will pay your full rate, but I've got to have you."

I said, "Oh, no, no, no, you don't understand.

We're not a good fit."

I was trying to be very diplomatic and kind, but yet I'm still walking away.

My boundaries are very firm, and I've decided we're not a good fit.

A couple of days after that she called me back again.

"Well I've done my research, and I've found that you are the best house cleaner

in this market.

I must have you.

Name your price, whatever it is, and I will have you come clean my house."

I said, "No, we're not a good fit.

We're still not a good fit at any price.

I just decided."

She waits a couple of days, then she calls me back.

She says, "Okay, well I've decided that since you're not going to come clean my house, obviously

you don't know how to run a business."

Oh, she just hit me up with some emotional manipulation, right?

But I recognized that, so I know what she's doing.

She's playing games.

"Again, we are not a good fit."

"Can you recommend someone to me?"

I said, "I cannot."

She says, "Well I thought that you worked with this whole network of house cleaners

and whatever.

Is this a lie?

I bet you just made all this stuff up."

Oh, more emotional manipulation.

It just kept coming like rapid fire.

"Well if you knew somebody that was qualified, certainly you'd recommend them.

What kind of a business owner turns away business?"

Oh, "Again, we are not a good fit."

Right?

What it comes down to is this, I take care of the people that I work with.

I know that house cleaning is a really tough business, and when I recommend a customer

to a house cleaner that I know, it's because the house cleaner is going to do an amazing

job for that customer.

The house cleaner that goes to that customer's house is going to make me look good, and the

customer that I recommend is going to bring business to the house cleaner, and that customer

is going to make me look good.

If I have a customer that is full of emotional manipulation, and hate, and weirdness.

Uh-uh, there is no price that you can put on that, because suddenly although I know

lots of house cleaners, and I actually know house cleaners that could use the business,

I would not do that to my friends.

I just would not.

She kept calling, and calling, and, "Don't you know somebody, can't you recommend somebody?"

"I cannot.

I will not.

I will not recommend anyone I know, and I will not take the job myself because you are

not a good fit for any of us."

When you get to sell a customer, and you get to bid the contract, and you're going through

their house, and they're giving you bits of information, that information is going to

help you determine whether or not you're a good fit.

There are times that red flags will go up, and you'll say, "Wait, don't close this sale.

There is no price that's going to make this customer worth the stress and the anxiety,

and the havoc they're going to wreak in your life."

There are times when my best advice to you, is wait.

Don't close the sale.

Your antennas will be up, and this comes by experience.

The more jobs you bid, the more jobs you will realize that there are out there, right?

There are hundreds, and thousands of homes out there.

There's lots, and lots of work for all of us.

But if you run into a customer that's going to cost you stress, and anxiety,

turn and walk away.

Alrighty, so that's my two cents for today.

Until we meet again,

leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.

Trump FAILS Puerto Rico! - Republicans in Congress Don't Care - AM Joy - Duration: 10:35.

the crisis in Puerto Rico presented Donald Trump with the opportunity to

step up and embody one of the most significant roles of a president during

a time of national crisis the role of comforter in chief during times of

tragedy whether natural or man-made Americans have looked to their

presidents for hope and reassurance and how presidents respond for better or

worse can wind up defining their legacies Ronald Reagan rose to the

occasion after the Challenger disaster in 1986 George W Bush was praised for

his bullhorn addressed to first responders after 9/11 though he was

later condemned for his flyover after Hurricane Katrina President Obama

offered hugs and reassurance to the people of Joplin Missouri after a deadly

tornado there in 2011 and then we have Donald Trump the president who responded

to a desperate plea for help in Puerto Rico with mean tweets joining me now is

michelle bernard president of the bernard center for women politics and

public policy Corrine jump here senior advisor for moveon.org

media and political analyst Steve Adubato and Republican strategist and

then Siegfried and thank you all for being here I'm gonna start with the

ladies here at the table and I'll go to I'll go to you first to read on this

Quinnipiac has a new poll out that has some pretty dire numbers for the Donald

Trump of the way he is performing his presidency thus far and it was taken you

know so a lot of it is during this era Maria period 56% say that he's not fit

to be president that's not different than when he was running on those who

say they are embarrassed to have a best president 51% majority say they're

embarrassed to have him as president 57% disapprove of the overall job he's

doing and fifty fifty seven percent disapprove of the overall job that he's

doing so these are not good marks they're not you know they're not good

marks do you think that Donald Trump changes any of these numbers by the way

that he's performing visa vie hurricane Maria or is this just the way it's gonna

be for for this is just him it's definitely just him it's who he is I

mean just when you think the president hits rock bottom he finds a way to take

it even lower and I think when you look at Puerto Rico it really brings out the

worst toxic brew of Donald Trump which is the racism

which is incompetence and also just the the egomaniac that he is and that's what

we're seeing I mean we were talking about 3.4 million people who are really

trying to survive and and fighting for their life they have no medicine the

food is running out there's no water no electricity and this is what he does

from a luxury resort right tooth and then talking to the poles as well like

he's making money hand over fist what he's doing every time he's at golfing at

his resort and he has no shame about it but yet he's ok with attacking the mayor

from the 18th green that's what he does Michelle you know it's interesting that

uh just it just so happens that the attacks on the mayor of San Juan a woman

of color happened to come a year to the day after Donald Trump went on our

tweets from attacking Alicia Machado also a Latina who was the former Miss

Universe he does seem to have a reflex when it comes to women of color yeah

yeah with all women but particularly with women of color I mean the way that

he has attacked her is just absolutely like revolting you know I was speaking

with a tenured professor from Howard University last night who's a

psychologist to try to get a grasp on what it is we're dealing with

yeah with Donald Trump she's he's not her patient she's never spoken him but

she watches the news like everyone else and she's explaining to me the level of

narcissism that we see in this man and the fact that the country has to deal

with it and it's that narcissism that led him to attack the mayor of San Juan

San Juan and I don't know if you see but their photos all are online you know

with pictures of them at the exact same time yeah he is hitting the ball on the

green just in ways saving in water yes saving wild water Rico yeah and they

don't have to question yourself is it because she's a woman is it because

people speak Spanish there is it because he made me was not sure that these are

actually Americans and that Puerto Rico is you know a territory of the United

States government I mean whatever it is it is absolutely repulsive this makes

the response to Hurricane Katrina look it makes like Katrina look good yeah

like it was just sweet people trying to do their best and couldn't do it this

looks intentional yeah and I think with Katrina the idea what

was sort of indifference or incompetence here where it seems to be you know

malice yeah you know you you you you're you know you write about leadership this

is what your book was about this is a lot of what you talked about and Donald

Trump is of course the President of the United States and so it's sort of the

person who's in this position of supposed to you know sort of unify the

country in moments like this but this was his Treasury secretary explaining

why instead of doing that he attacked the mayor of San Juan this was his

Treasury secretary trying to explain that to us call me the press

you mentioned the governor but you're not mentioning the mayor why did he

attack the mirror she's in a situation of a pretty desperate situation and seem

to lack a little bit of empathy for the situation at the time why did he do this

well I think as you know when the president gets attack he attacks back

and I think the mayor's comments were unfair given what the federal government

is done Steve is that a good enough explanation when you're talking about

the president united states joy I want to trying to control the emotions the

feelings I have right now screw politics this is not about

politics it's not about Democrats Republicans conservatives or liberals I

happen to be a Roman Catholic doesn't matter what religion you are whether you

believe in religion the human side of this the human pain and suffering that

we all see in Puerto Rico 3.4 million people suffering the fact that the

president United States chose to attack mayor Cruz of San Juan forget about

where she's coming from politically he attacks her and says she's been pushed

by Democrats to say nasty things about Trump the insanity of that while people

are suffering to make this about himself as he said by other people before the

golf thing speaks for itself he talked about optics of firing you know one of

his cabinet members for optics because of private planes look at those optics

right now look at those pictures I say to every Trump supporter around this

country I don't care if you think that we're the progressive liberal Trump

bashing media ask yourself what those optics tell you ask yourself if those

pictures tell you that we have a president that gives a damn about people

who are suffering forget about who praises him and who criticizes him rise

above it and so for his second to say when he gets attacked he attacked

back I wasn't a big fan of Barack Obama in a lot of situations when he got

attacked he rose above it when he got attacked

he found the good in people and tried to bring them together this is a president

who gets a plus for divisive this and a big F for bringing this nation together

and in my book leadership is about bringing people together in the worst of

times and yet and yet you know there for some people there's a sort of a method

to the madness right lin-manuel Miranda's father at least Miranda a

former longtime public official in New York and of course they being both are

Puerto Rican and so and very proud wrote a piece in the New York Daily News in

which he he said to Donald Trump speaking to him we all know what the

president is really doing throwing red meat to the only supporters he has left

who feast upon his insults about minorities the Republican Party members

of it they're very few that have said much in response to what Donald Trump

has done is it because they too are in thrall to that same base who they know

this is going to be popular with yes they are a little bit scared of blowback

from the base but let's look at what's going on here what is happening in

Puerto Rico and with the president's disgusting tweet attacking the mayor of

San Juan yesterday it's a symptom of a larger overall problem the president is

isolated impotent and has an overblown sense of grievance and this is extending

to everything he feels he needs to be getting credit for things he shouldn't

be getting credit for because he has very few accomplishments he's becoming

isolated in that congressional Republicans largely ignore him and just

don't even talk about him or honor his requests from the White House he has no

real legislative track record he has only executive orders to show for what

he's done as a president and he's got a further divided nation at the same time

when we look at what he was saying yesterday I'm it sounds like a valley

girl oh my god there in gray I mean why don't they appreciate me there's just

this conspiracy we have a high school girl as president of the United States

essentially who's trying to make it all about him in his ego as opposed to the

fact that 55% of the people in Puerto Rico have drink don't have drinkable

water 90% don't have cell service and only 5%

have electric power the White House did drop the ball in the second week on

Puerto Rico and the optics are very bad and deserve

so but it's now all about how people don't appreciate the very great things

that are going on there I think the word he used impotence I think is really

important here and it's key I mean if you think about the optics the mayor

there was no direct attack on Donald Trump and the woman humbles herself and

goes on on worldwide television and is begging for help to save lives and the

best that he could come back with was an attack and statements that they want us

to do everything for them you know it's not a direct attack they're saying

10,000 troops is not enough people need water people need food people need to be

evacuated please help us and so right so you have to question yourself are we

really looking at what happens when when and when a man like Donald Trump feels

impotent this is the best he can give the country the country deserves more

yeah it's be quickly joi real quick Sunday morning people across this

country many of them go to church they worship they don't but they have a sense

that it's Sunday for all those Trump supporters when he spoke to the

evangelicals and tried to quote try to quote the Bible terribly ask yourself

what Jesus would have done ask yourself what any decent person would do that is

not what the president is doing people need to check themselves and ask

themselves why they're defending this president at this time with so many

people suffering and just asking begging for help this is not political it's

humanitarian or in the case of a lot of members of the Republican Party in

Washington just being quiet and silent about it on the shelling Kareem will be

back thank you guys very much we'll be back a little bit Steve Adubato and

Evans Siegfried thank you gentlemen thank you

"Stoplights Don't Stop Us!" - Duration: 5:24.

Ellana and I went one morning and

we went over here to Sixth and Commercial.

And the light's green for 27 seconds.

It took me 33 seconds to walk across the street.

We need to get that time longer.

When we were first approached about the

Community Capacity Building project,

we tried to think of something that we already had

in place rather than reinventing the wheel.

And it was a natural fit that the Friends Groups,

who come together monthly, would be a great opportunity

for the groups to get together and talk about issues that they're facing.

And we sent out a challenge to each of the groups,

to identify an advocacy topic in their local communities

that they felt strongly enough that they wanted to work on as a group.

Well most of us live right here at Broadview.

So we sit and we get together, we visit. We help each other out.

Whenever we go to the meetings, it helps us to associate

a little more with one another,

whereas maybe we wouldn't visit as much,

and to hear one another's concerns.

It's just a good time of fellowship. You know everybody,

if they have other concerns or things that they've noted

in the community or problems they've been having,

we come and talk about it as a group. So it's a really good time.

So many times people think that they are just one person

and they may not make a difference.

But as our groups show, one person brings up an issue and

others realize they have the same issue,

and it kind of snowballs into a larger movement.

It's a feeling of empowerment.

Disabilities don't necessarily have to stop someone.

We have the will if somebody can provide the way.

It was a long process. We worked on it slowly, you know.

We'd come out for 15 to 20 minutes perhaps.

Then we eventually contacted the city and they came.

Then they contacted the Department of Transportation in Hutchison.

Then they came and actually did the timing.

They were very organized. And it's amazing that once they identified,

they systematically developed a plan to do research, first of all,

to learn more about it before they just went and tried to advocate.

And they were very passionate about it and very involved in taking a role.

Leaders emerged from the Friends Group

and they helped to facilitate the process.

With myself, you know I'm in an electric chair,

for me it was the button.

I could not reach the button,

so they did an extension on it.

So I just started speaking up,

knowing what areas I had difficulty in.

And they would note them down and before I knew it,

things got improved and I was surprised!

I'm moral support and helping the facilitators

as they run into barriers.

I'm able to help them brainstorm and I can pass down the ideas

that I've learned from the other centers who are involved in the project

from all around the country.

The Community Tool Box was another resource that

we were able to use to help them identify ways

to advocate within their communities.

Well RCIL has always been a great company about

advocating for one's self.

So they taught me a lot of things about

learning to advocate and speak up.

Certainly, whenever there is any community advocacy

that's done and has a successful result,

not only does it benefit the people who were involved in that advocacy,

but people who don't even realize it was a problem to begin with.

So whether that's a mother pushing a stroller across an intersection,

or someone who wants to walk across the street,

they don't realize necessarily the work that all went in to getting

those stoplights changed and made more safe for the entire community.

If it's something that's really for everybody, I'll push for it.

When they have the success, it motivates them to be more active

and take on other challenges in the community.

And even just giving them the self-confidence to not necessarily advocate,

but to be involved in boards such as the

Accessibility Advisory Committee or even something

as big as running for local office.

As they increase their confidence through advocacy,

it can certainly lead to a lot of other opportunities for them in the community.

Emporia says that it's an inclusive community,

but it's even more inclusive because

at independent living centers like RCIL,

it enables people to become involved.

DON'T BE THAT PARENT /Think of other's - Duration: 3:47.

hey you it'sEvie :)

I'm just gonna make this a real quick message okay but it's

really important for starting this school year one thing that I was really

worried about and not looking forward to when it came to public school was all

the sicknesses now I know now you can't always prevent your kids getting sick

you can't always tell your kids are sick sometimes just there'll be a class and

all sudden they're throwing up and you had no idea they were sick that happens

it's just they claim that you're sick three days before you show any symptoms

I'm sure any school you have parents that can to always find sitters for

their kids but you should always at least find one person to look after your

kid or her children the point on this message is is that I am waiting to hear

back from my daughter's school principal to see what he thinks but I was asking

what we could do to maybe have face masks available at school so when you

get kids that are sick they can throw on a face mask you see I never seen a face

mask before it look like this I'm not just asking because my dad has leukemia

or because my mom has MS or I have an autumn autoimmune disease but there's

tons of people that have autoimmune diseases where they have like no

immunity so for them to catch a cold it's it's like that it happens really

quick can't prevent everything but I really think that if we could have a

masks at school that would really help I used to be a sub teacher at a day care

center I seen parents that could clearly tell

their kids were sick I mean they came in just read you know they weren't feeling

good in their eyes are all puffy they didn't look good never failed every time

because you think oh maybe it just happened just now maybe the mom and dad

didn't see it but never failed every time that happened I would try calling

their parents to come pick up their kids they don't have their phone or their

phone died or they were too busy to answer it which I don't know why because

if your child's daycare center is trying to get ahold of you it there's a reason

for it besides the point my point is there are

some parents that are like yeah it's okay

it's to help everybody look at the cancer there's cancer everywhere and

it's just growing and growing in all these illnesses and autoimmune diseases

all this stuff is going on try to think of others

not just the sick but the elderly newborns the ones that don't have so

much immune system this stuff could actually kill them all I ask is you if

you really can't keep your kid home put a mask on your face allow them I want to

talk to the principal maybe I can talk the the hospitals see if they would

donate some face masks to school I know what isn't gonna fix it all but I really

feel that'll help I was just talking abou Stryver she says bunch of kids are

coughing at school and that there's three different types of flus running

around already it's just ridiculous it's let's see this is his fourth day at

school you guys fourth day at school that's it and if you have a nice strong

immune system awesome enjoy it but as for others

you'd really appreciate it if you just put the damn mask on thanks for

What We Still Don't Know About Stockholm Syndrome - Duration: 6:10.

It's a lot of people's worst nightmare:

They're at the bank, and suddenly they find themselves

being held hostage in the middle of a robbery, not knowing if they'll live or die.

It's hard to imagine how, in that kind of situation,

someone would actually grow to like their captors.

But in 1973, that's exactly what happened during a bank robbery in Sweden,

and the name Stockholm Syndrome was born.

Ever since, experts have been trying to figure out how and why it happens,

and whether it's even something we can call a syndrome at all.

More than four decades later, they still aren't sure.

[INTRO ♪]

At that bank in Stockholm, four people were held for six days until they were rescued.

Afterward, all four defended the robbers, refusing to testify against them,

and saying they felt more threatened by the police than by their captors.

Someone is said to have Stockholm Syndrome if they formed a positive bond with their captor—

a friendly relationship, or at least friendly feelings.

Sometimes, the captor also had positive feelings back.

But even though we can describe what it looks like,

there's still a lot of debate among psychologists, medical and military professionals,

and other experts about whether Stockholm Syndrome actually exists.

We know people do have these positive feelings—that's not what's in question.

What we don't know is whether those feelings are part of a specific,

unique pattern of thoughts and behaviors that qualifies as a disorder.

Part of the problem is that there isn't much scientific research,

because Stockholm Syndrome is rare and hard to study.

It shows up a lot in popular media, but it's much less common in real life.

For most mental health professionals, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,

or DSM, is basically the authoritative guide to everything mental health.

For a disorder to be included in the DSM, researchers and clinicians have to

agree on what symptoms and experiences are part of the disorder,

creating a list of criteria.

There has to be evidence of what it is, as well as how it's different from other disorders—

essentially, why it deserves its own name and treatment strategies.

And it has to impact the person in some way,

making it hard for them to go about their normal daily life.

The latest edition, the DSM-5, describes a bunch of different kinds of

trauma-related disorders, where people have typically experienced

some very stressful or traumatic event, like an accident or attack.

The feelings we call Stockholm Syndrome aren't in the DSM,

but they don't match any of the existing trauma-related disorders, either.

For example, it's not the same as PTSD, because that generally involves very negative feelings—

although it is possible for someone who has positive feelings about their

captors to also experience PTSD when it comes to other parts of their ordeal.

Stockholm Syndrome also isn't simply brainwashing,

where someone uses manipulative techniques to convince their victims to believe something.

With Stockholm Syndrome, the captor doesn't need to actively do anything—

it just seems to happen on its own.

So Stockholm Syndrome doesn't match other disorders that can come from similar experiences.

But researchers aren't sure that it should get its own diagnosis.

A big part of trying to figure that out has involved

interviewing people who were in hostage situations.

They've looked for any common experiences, behaviors,

and feelings that could be an important part of a diagnosis.

They've also tried to learn more about why some people

develop Stockholm Syndrome and some don't, since that could help us better define it.

From those interviews, they found plenty of people with feelings that matched Stockholm Syndrome.

Even though the people they talked to had been held hostage

and you'd expect them to not like the people who put them through a terrible experience,

they said positive things about their captors,

describing some sort of friendship or bond.

They also often experienced negative feelings toward law enforcement,

and some people who'd had an opportunity to escape didn't take it.

But very little research has described what people experienced afterward.

We don't know whether they have challenges similar to people with PTSD,

or if they were affected in some special way because of this unusual positive bond.

We also don't know whether Stockholm Syndrome itself was harmful,

beyond what you'd expect from being held hostage.

There are some common themes to when people experience it,

and that's been studied a little more.

Typically, the person was isolated, felt that their life was in their captor's hands,

and felt like they couldn't escape.

And maybe most importantly, they also saw some kindness, however small.

In 2007, an examination of case studies by American researchers

collaborating with the FBI suggested that if the captor treated the hostages well,

Stockholm Syndrome was more likely to happen.

Even just a small kindness like not being treated as badly as they possibly could have been.

For example, in Moscow in 2002, over 800 people in a theater

were held captive for three days by a group of 40 terrorists.

The terrorists provided food, water, and medicine, and let a lot of children go.

Five weeks after it ended, a research team from Russia, the US,

and Belarus interviewed 11 of the hostages.

Ten of them showed signs of Stockholm Syndrome,

saying things like they felt bad that the terrorists were killed,

and that some of them were good-looking.

The good treatment seemed to be very important to their opinions.

So, we don't know exactly what people experience with Stockholm Syndrome,

or how it impacts their life afterward, and at least for now,

it can't be considered an official disorder.

But we're pretty sure the phenomenon exists, even though it's rare.

When people experience these stressful hostage situations,

they might end up feeling positively toward their captor,

especially if the captor was kind.

The question is: why do people end up with those good feelings?

Being slightly less awful to them at some point doesn't seem like it should be enough—

there's still the fact that their captors took them hostage in the first place.

One reason is that it might be helpful for managing stress.

In 1994, a group of researchers from Virginia and Illinois

conducted an experiment where 57 airline employee volunteers

were fake-kidnapped by a group of FBI agents who

acted as terrorists and held them for four days.

Everyone knew it was fake, but it was still very stressful for the subjects.

The researchers found that when hostages managed their stress

by focusing on their emotions, they developed more positive bonds with the captors,

who in turn tended to treat them better.

Simply put, it made the experience less stressful.

So, Stockholm Syndrome might exist, and it might even be helpful or adaptive

in some ways, at least during the event.

But there are still too many unanswered questions to establish it as an actual disorder,

and we have a long way to go before we can say that we understand it.

First of all,

Whoever Im talking to today,

you gonna tear up

the good with the bad.

If you do what you gonna do.

You gonna do more bilateral damage,

than is necessary to get the prize.

See, God is such a surgeon.

He is so skillful and is so precise.

He knows how to cut out the cancer,

and leave the kidney.

But if you jump in there

and start cutting stuff.

You gonna cut out the kidney

with the cancer.

And so God says,

leave it alone,

let both of them grow up together

and when the time is right

I will handle it.

Touch somebody and tell them,

"This is Gods fight!"

I dont know who Im preaching to this morning.

I dont know what you are going through in your life.

I dont know what you got to deal with at this moment.

But whatever that thing is,

that shocked you.

And blindsided you.

And seemingly came out of nowhere.

The battle is not yours,

it belongs to God.

God is going to get the victory

if you just believe him.

What Most People Don't Know About John Cena - Duration: 5:04.

WWE champion John Cena is the undisputed face of modern professional wrestling. And with

a growing film career, Cena is steadily turning wrestling fame into Hollywood gold as well.

But the road to triumph wasn't easy for Cena. The superstar champ worked and hustled his

way into show business after experiencing some surprising setbacks in the start of his

career. Here's a look back at John Cena's tough journey to the top.

Childhood bullying

Although you'd be hardpressed to find someone who'd pick on Cena now, as a kid he was on

the receiving end of some serious bullying.

"I remember the walk to the school bus, at the very least five times, shoved down."

In his younger years, he was relatively scrawny, so he started to pack on some muscle as a

means of defending himself from his attackers.

"By the time I showed up at high school, I was big. The guys who were pushing me down

in high school were kinda like, 'we cool?'"

Sports selection

While growing up in Massachusetts, Cena's father was a huge fan of professional wrestling

and he loved taking his sons to see WWF matches in the "cheap seats" at Boston Garden. But

while Cena enjoyed watching the greats and reenacting their moves like a lot of young

boys growing up in the '80s, he told the Huffington Post that he was actually more interested

in "proving himself on the baseball diamond or football field than in the wrestling ring."

Despite the fact that he'd become a WWE giant in later years, he wasn't big enough for the

professional gridiron. So he set his sights on California where he unfortunately learned

that there were way more careers than football that weren't the best fit.

Odd jobs

After graduating with a bachelor's in exercise physiology, Cena headed to Santa Monica at

21 years old to be around the bodybuilding scene in Venice Beach and also to prove himself

to his father — who'd said he wouldn't last on his own for longer than two weeks.

He told ABC News, "I left with 500 bucks and an Army duffle bag, and hit ground in Santa

Monica and just started working. No career, just working a job to make money to stay out

there to spite my father and the jobs were taking me nowhere."

In addition to trying to make it as a limo driver and failing the highway patrol exam,

he picked up a position as a bar bouncer.

"Early twenties and I was a d**k."

"I'm sitting at the front door in a Hawaiian shirt that's six sizes too small and a blonde

mohawk just like this"

Perhaps the strangest gig Cena found himself doing to make ends meet was his brief stint

as a competitive eater.

He explained, "I'm a Zeppy's pizza-eating champion. [...] I was broke and didn't have

any food, and they had a promotion, they had really thick dish pizza, if you ate a whole

pizza, you'd get the pizza free. So, I went in there on a lunch break and crushed a pizza

in about 20 minutes and the [pizza parlor] guy's face dropped. He didn't realize that

I was broke and hungry, so I went back the next day and did the same thing. Finally,

he pulled me over and he's like, 'Man, I kind of know what you're doing. Just stop by for

a free slice any time you want.'"

Near-enlistment

This next part of Cena's early history can be a controversial topic for some wrestling

fans and veterans. To promote his 2006 movie, The Marine, Cena began incorporating dog tags

and military elements into his WWE uniform and entrances, making fans question for years

what branch Cena served in. The answer is none.

However, he did say he almost joined the Marines while struggling to make it in California.

He explained, "I just thought because, of all the service branches, it kind of exemplified

who I was as a 22-year-old. You think you're bulletproof, and you can handle any sort of

resistance put in front of you, and you're gungho to the hilt."

But according to Cena, the very same weekend he made the decision to enlist, a chance encounter

changed his life forever.

Toilet to Tinseltown

Cena landed a job at a Gold's Gym cleaning toilets while living out of his car. Despite

working his way up and even starring in a commercial for the Gold's Gym franchise, Cena

was about to enlist in the Marines — until fate stepped in.

A patron of the gym overheard him discussing wrestling. Since he was training to become

a wrestler himself, he made Cena the offer to train with him. Cena told ABC News, "I

was already up to my eyeballs in debt, but I leveraged every credit card I had… paid

a promoter out in southern California, and learned the trade. Had we never had that conversation,

I would have probably been honorably discharged or medically discharged from the Marines."

And with that, a star was born …

Cena still had to work his way through the ranks at the WWE, but while Vince McMahon

wasn't sold on him right away, his daughter Stephanie McMahon saw some serious potential

in the budding wrestler. She gave him the gig that would become a superstar career.

The rest is wrestling history.

Successful People DON'T Complain! - Study Motivation - Duration: 11:38.

I'm lucky to know a lot of famous people Bill Gates Warren Buffet Jack Welch

Larry Page Mark Zuckerberg I know all of them I would like to share with you that

those people the difference between those people and other people they are

always optimistic for the future they never complain they've always tried to

solve the problems of the others and I think where is the opportunity the

opportunity lies always lies in the place where people complain some people

sit there complaining you think if I can solve that complaint that's the

opportunity that's what I did don't complain let the other people

complain those people complain those people who still and do not always say

well I don't have think about how you can make things different use your own

brain to think the danger of low expectations

I would rather aim for the stars and not hit them then to not aim at all I would

rather go after it and not get it then not go after it at all I'd rather try

and fail then not try at all I don't want to live with the idea wonder what would

have happened had I done more with my life I'm gonna go for it come hell or

high water I'm going after my destiny touch the neighbors say run you gotta

run after your destiny you can't stroll after your destiny you can't walk after

your destiny you gotta run somebody holla run

you gotta run you gotta run you gotta run

you can't just wake up in the morning let me see what's gonna happen today I

don't know what I'm gonna do I don't know what I'm aware don't know what I'm

cook I don't know where I'm gonna go I just woke up all you should stay in the

bed give the day to somebody who's gonna run after their destiny give the day

to somebody who has a plan who has a strategy because success is never an

accident and if you don't want it get out of my way because there are some

people who want to do something with their life who will run last thing we have to talk

about is improving your sleep environment and that involves your bed

itself the amount of light in your room the sounds the odors the temperature a

lot of different factors so we're gonna briefly go through a few of them here

and while we do that for each one ask yourself if you could be making any

improvements so first up let's talk about your pillow couple of things about

pillows number one you want to replace yours every couple of years both because

it breaks down over time and gets less supportive but also because every night

you're sleeping on it you're kind of injecting that pillow with lots of dirt

and germs and body odor and stuff that makes it gross which can make it harder

to fall asleep secondly and this was news to me until just recently there are

different kinds of pillows for different kinds of sleepers for example I am a

side sleeper and for years I was just using like the most non supportive awful

pillows until I learned that a side sleeper probably is gonna need a firmer

pillow that has these gussets on the side of it instead of just the two

pieces of fabric that are stapled directly together and after sleeping on

this thing for about a week now I can tell you it is a lot better than the

stuff I was using before when it comes to the temperature in your room cooler

is better and according to the National Sleep Foundation the optimal temperature

range for sleeping is somewhere between 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 67 degrees

Fahrenheit the amount of light in your room or should I say lack of light plays

a big role as well because pitch darkness actually plays a big role in

melatonin secretion so if you have a lot of ambient light coming into your room

from like a streetlight outside your apartment you can pick up a blackout

curtain which will basically eliminate that light all together actually got one

right there that I use for filming also if you happen to fall asleep with the TV

on you should probably try to break that habit because well bluelight now if

you're one of those people who thinks that the TV is soothing and they just

can't fall asleep without it there are some sound based alternatives and

actually silence really isn't the optimal solution for all people because

silence is so often inconsistent there's a bump in the night or there's a voice

in the other room or there's somebody's snoring in the same room as you so

having some sound that can block out those inconsistencies can really help

you fall asleep one option you can check out is ambient noise generators which

can generate both white noise which is basically just consistent noise that

sounds a little bit like an air conditioner and ambient noises like rain

and thunder and for me my favorite one is noise lee because you can add as many

as you want you can change the volume of each one and basically create the

perfect mix for you there's also lots of music out there that's good for falling

asleep too i've made a playlist of my own and found several on spotify and

i'll link to those down below but my favorite way to fall asleep is with

audiobooks for me at least there is nothing better to fall asleep to than

spoken word and in fact ever since I discovered audiobooks back when I was

probably 12 or 13 all the way up until I graduated high school and got a roommate

in college I would fall asleep every single night to either Ender's Game by

Orson Scott Card or The Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy by Douglas Adams and

as a result I have huge swathes of both of those books basically memorize

there's the belief I'd like you to try on I don't need an excuse to feel good

what if I don't need an excuse to feel good I just feel good for no good reason

I would like to say to you say I now notice notice when I first said it you

guys are kind of quiet processing it like I don't need to be a reason to feel

good oh how do I know to feel good some people see that sounds really naive

really most people don't need a reason to feel bad how's it going feel like

crap how come woke up

and people go I understand I understand what if you would somebody said how's it

gonna go I feel so great how come I don't know I just feel good you don't

take that guy to the psychiatrist right there they're manic they're crazy but

somebody else who's depressed and angry and frustrated you think that's totally

normal that's the cultural hypnosis that we've

all been in no matter what country we live in people come to me all the time

and contrast this logo mr. Robbins I don't know what it is

I just feel down all the time why do you think I feel that way so I feel so up

what do you think I feel so up all the time I don't know maybe it's your body

people come up to you call Mr. Robbins I don't know what it is but for some

reason I'm angry all the time do you know what is perhaps at your face see do

we get in habits of using our body our face in a certain way over and over

again yes or no and those produce our emotion once you're in that state you'll

behave in a way that creates more of that emotion when you're angry you'll do

things that make you more angry when you're sad you do things to make you

more sad when you're excited you'll do things make you more excited

how many Follow say I so the secret is to build emotional biceps emotional fitness

by going in these states over and over again the comfort zone is one of the

greatest enemies of human potential and of your potential when people get into a

comfort zone they strive to stay in that comfort zone even if they aren't happy

with their situation often their whole lives pass them by while they're

furnishing and reinforcing their little rut of medium performance you need the

courage to continually move yourself in the direction of your biggest goals and

ambitions you need to be willing to face discomfort in order for you to grow

you need the courage to launch in faith with no guarantees of success

someone was wrote if every obstacle must first be overcome nothing will ever get

done courageous people are those who have a dream and set a goal they make a

plan and they take the first step with no assurances and no guarantees that

their efforts will result in success however if you look upon every step

forward as a learning experience at every setback is a valuable lesson that

has been sent to you to make you stronger and better you will not be

afraid to launch in faith into the unknown you need the courage to risk

failure you need the courage to endure constant setbacks and disappointments

and temporary defeats you need to learn to deal with failure by realizing that

failure is an indispensable prerequisite for success you can't succeed without

failing and failing lots of times remember that wonderful quote from

Thomas J Watson senior the founder of IBM he said if you want to be successful

faster you must double your rate of failure they said success lies on the

far side of failure you know if you're coming from a place of that fear of

inadequacy thinking someone's gonna leave you it often comes from a place of

you're not giving yourself credit you know you do good things but you don't

feel and integrate those in your identity so that you become a stronger

happier healthier adult a lot of people they're actually pretty extraordinary

people but they don't feel extraordinary because all those extraordinary things

that happen they never integrated someone gives them a compliment they're

like yeah yeah whatever they can't hear it it doesn't penetrate

into their identity where they start going you know I'm alright I am good I

can be confident now I've achieved enough I've come far enough I've

survived enough it's about giving yourself credit and remembering your

strengths you come through such difficult things in your life that

you're stronger than you know so why is that so important because you know what

if they do leave you you be fine and that is the hardest thing to

believe you have this fear of jealousy they're gonna leave and I might be

wrecked you won't be wrecked you survived a lot in the past someone's

probably already left you in your life not to be not to be a blame or or making

fun of you it's just true right lots of people walked out on me lots

people left me I've had lots of breakups in my life that happens and I'm still

here I'm still surviving I'm just still pretty annoyingly happy dude you can be

happy with or without anybody or anything you don't need more wealth you

don't need more people you don't need more higher career you don't anything

you can choose in this moment to feel grateful and blessed you can choose to

focus your attention on things that you appreciate to take in the good again and

if you start taking in those good things that you hear about yourself if you

start taking in those good wins those small daily actions that you did we hit

that goal when you got that project done when you did what you're supposed to do

we said something nice and start feeling stronger about yourself you stopped

worrying about other people and you can start to say you know what with or

without somebody I'm fine because you know what that makes you

attractive

15 Thanksgiving-Inspired Nails That Don't Take Things Literally - Duration: 4:57.

15 Thanksgiving-Inspired Nails That Don't Take Things Literally

What were serving up on Thanksgiving day (alongside our killer pecan pie, of course)? Autumnal waves, seasonal colors, and a football-themed nail look from the Monse runway show. Consider November 23 a no-kitsch zone.

Ahead, 15 manicured ways to celebrate the holiday without getting too cheesy.

1. The Thanksgiving Mantra

This is what we tell ourselves when we get to our fourth serving. If the Simpsons donut colorway is too bright, swap out the pinks and blues for more autumnal colors like burnt sienna and forest green.

2. Falling Leaves

This is an imaginative way to mimic falling leaves. Start with a bare nail, and ombré your tips in orange. Once dry, fleck on gold foil to the tips. Finish with a top coat.

3. Neutral Gold

This easy negative nail is the subtle take on metallics. Dot along the edge of your nail in a pale gold, let dry, and finish with a clear coat.

4. Marc Jacob-Inspired

Nail guru Jin Soon designed this nail for Marc Jacobs fall 2017 collection. Taking note from the 70s color theme on the runway, start by applying thin tape to the middle of your nail.

Paint the bottom half black, and the top part brown. Once dry, gently remove the tape and finish with a top coat.

5. Sporty Monse

If football is the main attraction at your fams Thanksgiving, look to Monses sporty runway manicure. Line up bare nails like a minimal football field, then choose the letter of the team youre rooting for as your statement nail.

6. Dry Brush Technique

Negative nails are typically reserved for graphic, linear designs, but the dry brush technique is shaking things up. Start with a bare nail, thinly apply a shimmery gold polish, then wipe off the majority of the product until its nearly dry.

7. Chanel Tweed

If you cant afford the 20, get the next best thing with Chanel-inspired tweed nails. Start with a white base, then alternate between black and gray in a crosshatch pattern. Keep your strokes purposefully messy to imitate the woolen textile.

8. Linear Prism

Hologram nails are rising in popularity, but you can update the on-trend look by using several chrome lacquers in a bold, graphic design.

9. Sand Jars

Revisit a favorite childhood craft with this look, inspired by sand jars. Using Thanksgiving shades of orange and gold, paint wavy lines horizontally on top of a neutral base.

10. In the Round

Take two key Thanksgiving colors—red and gold—and outline the top and bottom half of your nail for an easy negative space design.

11. Brown Isnt Boring

Brown doesnt have to be drab with this graphic Louis Vuitton design. Use nail tape to mask off different sections for clean, sharp edges.

12. Nude Grid

Elevate a nude nail with this design in contrasting textures. Start by applying a nude base then layer it with a matte top coat. Let dry, then paint a grid in a clear topcoat with a striping brush.

13. Diagonal Glitter

If you want something basic but glam, go for this simple negative nail. Start with a clear base coat.

Paint the upper half of each nail bed on the diagonal in a glittery lacquer. Once dry, seal the nail with a clear top coat.

14. Copper Plaid

Try this copper look by adding strips of metallic nail tape in a slapdash plaid design on top of a nude nail. Finish with a clear top coat.

15. Abstract Turkey

If the desire to go full-Thanksgiving is strong, suppress the need to paint mini turkeys and pumpkin pies with this abstract take.
