My First Games - Repton - Duration: 4:23.

My First Video Games - Repton

Setting up this new channel has given me time to do something I don't really do much on

the Livestreaming channel, talk about games that aren't really a good fit for streaming.

Maybe they're too old or the hardware to play them doesn't really exist anymore,

or they've just aged really badly and my sophisticated grown up gaming hands don't

know how to play them anymore.

Here on Britpinions however, I can stop and think about some of the games that I first

fell in love with, and given that a lot of them are weird old British home computer games

exclusive to my Dad's beloved "Acorn" computers, I think a lot of them will be unknown

to most of you guys.

I don't have much to say about the first game I ever remember playing, cesar the cat,

because I don't remember much and it's today it's pretty offensive to the eyes

and ears…

Here… take a look.

But I can talk about the first game I really fell in love with… a game for the BBC Micro

called Repton.

Repton 3 to be specific, but they're all pretty much the same so who cares.

Repton blew my mind as a kid.

I mean it looked pretty grungy even then, and it's honestly harder to imagine a game

looking much simpler, but the core gameplay still holds up pretty well.

The player has to navigate each map collecting diamonds, when all diamonds are collected

you have to find a time-bomb hidden in each level to progress.

Maps are made up of impassable walls, safes that turn to diamonds when you collect a key

hidden in each level, dirt that holds objects in place until you dig it, and boulders that,

if not properly handled, can crush you or block off access to all important diamonds.

The goal is to progress through the level without letting boulders fall in such a way

that they prevent you from completing the level.

If it has a weakness, it's that it comes from the era before games stopped you from

permanently screwing your ability to finish the job.

It is possible to render a level completely unsolvable in Repton just by digging some

dirt before checking your surroundings, often forcing you to self destruct and start all

over again.

After a while however you get the hang of checking all available routes before doing

anything drastic.

And the individual placement of boulders and diamonds often form quite complex little logic

puzzles that really reward you for finding a solution.

Take things too hasty though, and you'll be in the game's greatest trap.

Repton holds boulder.

No way to go but down.

Repton go down, Boulder goes down.

Then game over.

Outrunning it is impossible.

Once this mistake is made, the game will not act until you do, and you have only one choice

left.

Suicide.

Repton isn't a game of reflexes or quick reactions, once you've made an error, nothing

can save you.

It's about learning each of the games elements, and how they interact, and using them to plan

the perfect course of action.

Boulders on curved walls always roll off, boulders on flat walls stay.

Fuzzy monsters pass through dirt, alien monsters do not.

You can't outrun the rocks.

While the presentation is still rough around the edges, and the lack of saving is a bummer,

once you get the hang of the mechanics, it's a really satisfying game of logic.

That isn't why I liked it as a kid though…

See after they released Repton 3, they released a set of level packs for the game that included

a theme editor, allowing you to change any of the sprites in the game to a whole new

look and feel.

These level packs were also edited, including themes like Around the World, Repton Through

Time, and The Life of Repton.

These were full overhauls that kept all the mechanics the same, but changed the sprites

to represent Repton as a baby or Repton in Space!

Part of the fun of these packs wasn't just the goofy and colourful new styles, but actually

the game of trying to figure out what your new hazards were.

Oh look, what could this adorable baby's teddy bear be?

A Diamond, perhaps?

…no.

It's a boulder.

Games like Repton just don't exist anymore, and it can be hard to work through the quirks

today, but put a little time in and they're still really satisfying games.

In preparation for this video, I tried to set myself up with a BBC Micro emulator that

would run my old Floppy Disks for Repton 3 and capture it.

That was remarkably hard to do.

The problem with niche systems, I suppose, but in the end it didn't matter, because

there's an amazingly authentic flash recreation of the game online, and a few other games

for the system.

I'll put a link below if you want to try it out.

Let me know how you like it!

And that's all from me, until I think of more games I've played you've probably

never heard of.

Lawbreakers Collectors Edition Unboxing - PC Limited Run Games release - Duration: 3:35.

I've been SUPER busy behind the scenes wrapping up my OBS Studio course, but I wanted to quickly

share the Lawbreakers Collectors Edition with you.

This was put out by LimitedRunGames, who releases a lot of physical copies of digital-only games.

I've picked up a few in the past and wanted to support Lawbreakers, so I grabbed this

one.

I was disappointed to learn and realize that the physical disc copy of the game itself

only came with the PS4 release, whereas I picked up the PC copy that came with a Steam

code and no actual disc.

Seemed... against LRG's values, but oh well.

The box has a nice graphic, though hard to see.

Inside you get the Limited Run post card, some stickers, a couple packs of trading cards,

and this really slick notebook.

I'm always afraid to actually use stuff like this and then run out of pages, but I'm ALWAYS

filling notebooks so I'm sure I will eventually.

The stickers are pretty cool.

I tried opening everything in non-destructive ways, even the cards.

Which was... difficult.

They're all nice and shiny foil.

Faust, Baron, Cronos, Feng, Helix, Kintaro, Kitsune, Nash, and

Toska-9 in this first pack.

They all look really nice.

Probably don't have actualy TCG value, but nice to keep in one of my card binders anyway,

at least.

Next pack has Abaddon, Aegis, Axel, Bombchelle - I love that name - , deadlock, Hellion,

Maverick, Sunshine, Tokki, and

another just art card.

Also there's the actual LimitedRunGames Trading Card which they give with each release.

This is number 028.

There are gold and silver border variants, with gold being more rare.

I've only ever gotten silver.

And that's it.

Lawbreakers is a really cool game and I would love for it to get more attention - from myself,

too.

I've not gotten to play a whole lot of anything, so I haven't even played much of it myself.

But I would like to see it get more players going.

Hit the like button if you enjoyed, subscribe for more, and I'll see you in the next one.

10 TIPS TO UP YOUR LETTERING GAME - Duration: 6:52.

hey everyone it's sarah from sarahtypes.com today i'm going to show you ten

ways that you can up your lettering game number one make sure you have a really

good paper my favorite paper is marker paper when

you have better paper not only does your marker or your pen go on much smoother

it also doesn't eat up your brush pens and fray all of the tips so it not only

keeps your brushes lasting longer but it also makes your writing look way

better number two find the perfect pen there are so many different ways that

you can do lettering and calligraphy there's a million different pens and

they all achieve different results the best thing to do is to buy a few

different styles and try them out and see which ones that you gravitate

towards and then once you've found that one that just clicks either you feel the

most comfortable with it in your hand or maybe you like the way it looks at the

end the best once you found that pen start practicing with that one more so

than the others and then really develop your own style

number three don't stare while copying you should

never really copy anyone's work verbatim but sometimes you do need a reference

especially when you're a beginner and maybe if you don't have a lot of

experience with illustrating you might need to look at something as a reference

and that's okay but don't stare at it while you create your own artworks

because not only will not look good because you're focusing so much on the

other person's artwork and not really on what you're doing but it's also not

going to be your style so it's gonna look forced if you can look at it as a

reference and then pay attention to your piece then you'll see that your own

style will come through. it may not be perfect at first but eventually it will turn into

something that other people might want to look at as a reference

number four

vectorize your artwork - that is a great way to bring whatever you've done

up a level you can use vector projects for almost anything it's really good to

vectorize it because you can make it pretty much any size so that means you

can use it for large print scale things or even t-shirts or phone cases

then you can also really play around with it in Photoshop and illustrator

and add more effects to it, some 3d looks, there's so many things you

can do it that just take it up another level and of course I do have a tutorial

on how to vectorize your lettering so if you want to try it I will link that

above and go check it out if you have any questions make sure to leave a

comment below which leads me into number five ask questions if you have letterers

or artists that you follow on Instagram or YouTube and you really like

techniques that they show you don't be afraid to ask them how they did that tip

number six relax your hand when you first start you are probably going to be

very tense when you're lettering and you'll notice that that will show in the

way that you've gripped your tools I do this all the time so just think about it

when your lettering if you find that maybe it's looking a little robotic and

you wanted to have a little bit more flow just take a deep breath relax and

let your hand go a little bit and let the movements come from your wrist

number seven inspiration

when you want to sit down

and letter sometimes you don't know what to write and I think that's a common

problem for everybody especially myself so my advice to you is to go on

Pinterest and find quotes words lyrics anything that really rings a bell and

then create a board where you can pin all those that

way when you're ready to actually sit down and create something you don't have

to worry about what you're gonna write you can just go to your references grab

one of those and then just start practicing tip number eight go slow I

find that when I'm lettering and if something just isn't working out the way

I wanted to if it's a little wobbly or if it's just not it's just not what I

had imagined I find if I just slow it down and really pay attention to where I

am going with my pen that tends to help and then I usually get it a little bit

closer to what I had in mind then when I was at full speed tip number nine make

sure that you have read a little bit or studied a little bit on typography and

the core principles because those will get you very far you want to know how

letters are formed and how they are in relation to each other you want to make

sure that you're using a grid things that will just help you keep your

letters in line and make sure that it's readable these are all really important

especially when you're starting and then when you get a little bit better better

you can kind of break few of those rules not all of them because you still want

people to read what you write but you can break through them and play with it

but I suggest if you're having some issues read up a little bit on it and

take it back to the basics I'll link some really good blog post in the

description below that can help you out number 10

bring your lettering up a little bit try adding some shadows or highlights I find

when I letter something out and I feel like it's looking a little bland

or a little plain if my eye and some shadows or

like it really makes a pop and it just adds a bit of interest and it's pretty

easy to do I mean shadows can be a little tricky at first you want to make

sure you know where the sunlight is coming from so you get them all even

because if one letter shadow is different than another letter shadow

then the effect will be completely lost so you want to make sure you get that

right and if you do it adds a lot to your lettering so that's my ten tips I

do have one bonus tip and that is obviously have fun and when I say have

fun you can try lettering on other things besides paper try different

surfaces like bananas or bottles anything like that see what you have

lying around the house and then you know grab some sharpie oil paint pens or just

a regular sharpie and try it on different surfaces because this will

just add a level of interest to your work so I hope that's helpful if you

have any tips leave them below and let us know what your tips are I'd be happy

to hear them if you like this video give it a like and subscribe for more

Is Bubble Bobble Really A Good Game?! - Duration: 8:51.

Magic Bananas! (Angelic Choir in the background)

Too Obscure!

Too Popular!

Too Hard!

Ah, perfect!

Hello everyone!

I got the perfect game to do!

Well, not perfect, but it is not another N64 game, I can tell you that much!

We are reviewing today: Bubble Bobble!

But is it really a good game?

And you may have noticed, there is a code on here, this code will lead you straight

to Level 99, if you want to use it.

As for how that got on there?

Well, my father wrote that code on there with sharpie, so yea.

And this game is ingrained into my childhood, but I will not let that effect my review.

Disclaimers: There are spoilers, you are warned.

And I am not sponsored by Nintendo, so lets begin with the review!

Bubble Bobble is an action platformer game developed by Taito for the Nintendo Entertainment

System and released in 1988 where you play a dragon that blows bubbles and trys to reach

the 100th level.

The 1988 you see in the game is actually the NES release, as 1986 is the arcade release.

But wait, how did that happen?

The story for this game is very simplistic, heck, I was even expecting no story because

it was an NES title.

But regardless, the story is as follows: The main bad guy, "Baron Von Blubba", yes, that

guy, or monster, or whatever it is, has kidnapped the girlfriends of Bubby and Bobby (which

we will call Bub and Bob, okay, good) and by the way, they are brothers.

Right afterwards, "Baron Von Blubba" turned the brothers into bubble dragons.

Well, that is cruel and unusual... and humiliating.

You would think that is cool being turned into a dragon, but once you find out you

blow bubbles...

Then you lose all respect.

Both Bub and Bob (or mostly Bub because I play alone) has to save the girlfriends by

going through all 100 levels all the way down to the boss, yes, that boss, and defeat him

to get the girlfriends back.

That story was short, but I was not expecting it.

But how is the game structured?

Like a stated before, there are 100 levels, get through all of them and you win.

But within each level are different platforms in different locations, sometimes even making

a picture of enemies, items, and more.

Sometimes the stages themselves are puzzles in which you have to be clever to figure out,

like using a water bubble to get from below the stage to above the stage.

While we are talking about bubbles, you as the player shoots bubbles, bubbles are everything

in this game, bubbles kill enemies, bubbles have elements like water, lightning, and fire,

bubbles have secrets messages, and bubbles even help you jump up to higher platforms!

There are a wide variety of enemies you have to deal with, the wind up enemies that look

like toys, the cloaked enemies that shoot fire, floating whales, propeller enemies,

Spring enemies, and that gosh darn specter whale thing!

And finally the items, there are so many items in this game, all of them give you points,

but some of them have special abilities that automatically activate when picking them up.

Like the umbrellas skip stages, candies that effect your bubbles to go faster or farther,

and there are even some (like the heart that I grabbed as soon as it spawned on top of

me) that make you feel like you are pac-man as you touch enemies to kill them (normally

if they touch you, you lose a life).

Remember that code earlier?

There is a password option in the game, and is normally used to jump to where you last

left off after getting a gameover, or if you want to jump to a certain point of the game.

And now the final boss of the game, this boss is unforgiving, you only have a few seconds

to grab that lightning bottle and jump away as the boss begins to move.

Then quickly find a corner and spam that B Button to shoot lightning as he lands.

This will not work all the time though as the boss' pattern is predictable but quick,

and at times it feels like the bottles he shoots (and the hit boxes with them) are larger

than expected, and I died more than I like to admit.

And after every time I got a gameover, I have to do the entire fight again from the beginning.

This boss' health is 60 by the way, it is hard to see, but it is at the top of the screen.

Luckily the ghost whale does not show up in the stage, so you can take your time as you

figure out how to beat this boss.

And once I was able to defeat him, I was very glad.

Yes, yes, I finally did it!

It took forever and now I can finally see the ending.

Wait, what?

Oh, come on!

That is until I read what was shown on screen, and disappointment ensued.

Apparently, that was the bad ending of the game, and I was missing an item that is needed

from a special area of the game.

And using the password to jump to Level 99 skips the item (as well as using umbrellas,

you might accidentally skip the item using them too).

I don't know what the good ending looks like, but I am not going to play the game again

just for an ending.

But it is also a nice surprise that this NES game had something like multiple endings as

this, normally games of this era was "get to the end and win".

The game controls are just moving, jumping, shooting bubbles, and pausing.

Now the game feels responsive, except for using the bubbles, I don't know why, but the

shooting feels like it is timed or delayed so you can't spam the bubbles.

This has gotten me killed multiple times as I needed a bubble to shoot so the enemies

don't jump on me so fast.

But there is some good things that bubbles can let you do, and it is to jump on them,

without this, you would be stuck with nowhere to go in certain stages (Just shoot a bubble

and quickly hold that A Button).

Platforming can be hit or miss as your jumps do have weight to them.

Running and jumping are best for those long jumps.

And if there is a sliver of a wall, the game can sometimes decide if you even make it to

the platform or let you fall back down, I am sure that with enough practice you could

easily just play this game flawlessly, but for casual sessions, this could be deal breaker

for some people.

Also, interactions with some elements can change your feeling for the controls slightly,

as using lightning will stun you as it passes through you after popping them (this is true

with the final boss as you cant spam this due to the stun on top of the delay of firing

bubbles), the water stops you from moving or jumping entirely as you are being washed

down the stage, and fire just slows you down.

Playing with another person seems like fun, but remember, the problems become twice as

easy, or twice as hard depending what happens.

You both blow bubbles, and you both pop bubbles.

But beware that if you pop a lightning bubble and it hits your friends, your friend is stunned

for a short time, if your friend pops a water bubble, you can be caught in the water slide,

and popping fire bubbles still effects both of you.

The graphics are the usual 8-bit, typical for the NES.

As for the arcade, it uses raster graphics to show what is on screen, which are just

pictures of bits for the arcade machine to use.

Plus the arcade version looks better than the NES counterpart, due to brighter and more

detailed images used.

But for the NES version, it looks the same and plays the same from the arcade version,

but the walls and characters look more blocky.

The animations are as smooth as it gets, just moving from left to right and jumping is smooth

enough and many people won't notice that the pixels are the only things moving.

Now the music, there are 2 types of people, and they fall into 2 different camps with

the music of this game.

There are people who do not like the music as it is annoying to them, and I don't blame

them, there are only 3 pieces of music in this game.

The title and introduction to the game, the main game music, and the final boss music.

The most noticeable one is the main game music as it repeats on loop, and that is where most

of the complaints come from.

Then there is the other camp where people either fall in love with the music, or is

stuck in their heads from their childhood.

I fall into this camp.

There are points in the game where there is no music playing, this feels empty and ominous

in my opinion.

So how do I feel about this game?

Does it stand up to today's standards?

Or does it need to stay into the past?

Well, the story is short and to the point, the design is cluttered, the gameplay is smooth

and sticky at the same time (like a PB&J sandwich), the graphics are classic, the music, in my

opinion, is memorable, whether you like it or not.

I don't think I can give it a score that suits it, what I mean is, I can't recommended it

because it is stiff and difficult, but I cant say meh to it either because it is good when you

get into it.

So I will give it a score that is equivalent to a 3.5. And I call it: Meh, Recommended. or what I like

to call: Recom-meh.

This game is fun, and definitely play this with your friends.

Just beware of each other and work together, or this game won't be fun.

And the challenge is definitely there, so I don't see why not.

Oh, okay. I just realized that at this-

This does not look- What why does it say that?

It says: "These are two hungry Dino-mights and they've got bubble fight'n fun down tight"

What does this- This is so 90's.

What is this?

Anyways.

Inside the Game — The next step after running the ball more for the Broncos - Duration: 2:42.

Filling in again for Mark Schlereth, I'm Cecil Lammey taking you Inside the Game and why

Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy needs to be more like Gary Kubiak and draw up some

under-center play-action passing and bootleg for quarterback Trevor Siemian.

Listen, the Broncos are sticking with Trevor Siemian as their starter, they're sticking

with C.J. Anderson as their starting running back, and they need to run the ball.

They need to get back to running the ball and setting things up for the Broncos passing

attack.

And when they do that, notice that you're going to have 12-personnel, which is one running

back and two tight ends.

That also means two wide receivers on the outside.

This is a run-heavy formation.

You're going to see the two tight ends, as a defense, but you're already stuffing the

box to stop the run, and you're going to be thinking run all day.

Here's where the bootleg comes in, and we can see this work with Trevor Siemian under

center.

You're going to get the play and the entire offensive line to flow this way.

So, the defense is going to be reacting by flowing that way as well.

Trevor Siemian's going to fake the handoff and then bootleg out to the right, where you're

going to have a couple of options.

You're going to have the high-low read, basically.

And this will be Demaryius Thomas over here running that deep route, the play-action pass,

the deep shot that you can take off this bootleg action.

And then what you can do is you can have the tight end go kind of run a jerk route underneath.

You could also have this tight end drag underneath to make another simple throw, if you wanted

to.

But by design in this play, you have a jerk route for this tight end, you have Demaryius

Thomas deep, this receiver basically runs any sort of route — short route, long route,

it doesn't matter because the play is set up to just go to one half of the field.

You have two reads for Trevor Siemian.

You should the deep read open to Demaryius Thomas.

If not, check out the tight end, who should have fooled the linebacker by cutting inside

and then cutting back outside.

And if both of those guys are covered, then you have Trevor Siemian run the ball.

But utilizing play-action passing, when you're running the ball well, as I anticipate the

Broncos will be doing in the future, that's going to set up things nicely for Trevor Siemian

when it comes to throwing the ball.
