Hello everybody! In this video, I will tell you how to run old DOS games on modern computers

with Windows 10, 8 or 7. I will also explain what a DOSBox virtual machine is, where you

can download it, change settings and make old DOS games run on such machine.

With every new version of Windows, Microsoft reduced compatibility of its operating system

with DOS. As a result, the latest versions of Windows are totally incompatible with DOS,

and users cannot run programs and games developed for MS-DOS.

Why would anyone need to run old games and programs nowadays? One of the most widespread

and possibly the most serious reasons is playing classic and iconic games of the past. For

some people, it's an opportunity to feel be nostalgic about the old times, and some

have never completed their campaigns in Red Alert, Warcraft or Dune 2 back in the 1990s.

Generally speaking, it is your choice what you use a DOS emulator for, but in my case

it is mostly used for retro gaming.

So, let's begin. What is DOSBox?

DOSBox is a computer emulator creating a DOS environment required to run old programs and

games developed for MS-DOS. DOSBox partially emulates the MS-DOS operating environment,

BIOS interrupt vectors, and IBM PC hardware, and you don't need to have an x86 processor

or an original copy of MS-DOS. As well as any emulator, DOSBox requires a considerably

more powerful hardware (especially CPU) than the operating system that it emulates. MS-DOS

environment and PC hardware are emulated partially, that is why it is difficult to run Windows

95, Windows 98 and Windows ME in DOSBox. Hence we can conclude that this emulator is mostly

suitable for the purposes we have mentioned before - for retro gaming.

So, where can you download DOSBox, and how can you install and set it up?

Follow the link to the developer's website (find the link in the description: https://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1)

and download this emulator for Windows. After that, run the installation file and install

the program.

When it is over, run DOSBox.

You can see that its interface looks very much like Command prompt in Windows. Generally,

they work on similar principles, as the Command prompt dates back to the times when the most

popular and often the only possible way of working with a computer was by entering special

commands.

Now we have to create a kind of a virtual disk that we will work with in the DOSBox

environment.

To do it, open the Explorer, go to disk C and create a folder with the name "DOS"

After that, enter the following command in DOSBox command prompt:

mount c c:\dos\

Press Enter

You can see the message "Drive C is mounted as local directory c:\dos\".

It means that we have just connected a virtual disk C. Now all DOS games and programs which

we will put into the DOS folder we have created can be run from DOSBox virtual machine.

Now let's enter the command:

С:\

Now press Enter to go to our disk C.

Ready.

After we have prepared the DOS virtual environment, we can get to the most interesting part - retro

gaming!

Follow the link to the retro games website (you can find the link in the description:

http://www.myabandonware.com/) and select any DOS game you like. I will choose the great

and awesome DOOM.

Download the archive with the game and extract it to the DOS folder that we have previously

created.

Note. Ideally, inside the DOS folder you should create separate directories where you keep

games and programs. However, this version of DOOM was quite prankish and I managed to

run it only from the root directory.

Now let's try to start the game by clicking on the file DOOM.EXE.

As you can see, Windows 10 shows the message that this game cannot run on this computer.

To start the game, go to DOSBox window and enter the following command:

doom.exe

By doing this, you show the path to the file which we have just tried to run.

Press Enter

As you can see, the game starts. To maximize the window to full screen, press the key sequence

Alt + Enter.

What's your thoughts about the 3rd episode of Game of Thrones?

Looks like it was a quieter episode comparing to the 1st and 2nd episode..

but there was still some interesting happenings.

For example,, the reunion of Bran and Sansa!

Sor Jorah getting healed thanks to Sam =]

The badass x]

And I'm glad he was renowned for that. Hopefully he won't need to clean up the potty anymore!

The war strategies was quite interesting too.

Jamie saying that he has learned with Robb Stark.

And that's how things work, right?

We are always learning with our mistakes.

And he seems to have learned quite well hehe!

It was awesome to see Tyrion and Jon Snow seeing each other again.

Melisandre not wanting to meet the northerners,, probably because she knew that it wouldn't end up well for her lol.

But at least,, she did contributed to the union of Daenerys and Jon Snow.

Not sure if this union will work since they don't seem to have had a good start lol!

Both sides seems to be a bit proud!

But let's see how things will flow from now on ^^

At least, she did let him to collect the Dragonglass! =]

But gee,, nothing is working out for Daenerys right now..

let's see how far this thing will go x3

It was also interesting to see the hurry of Bran wanting to tell something to Jon.

And my heart was broken with the death of Olenna Tyrell :'( </3

I loved that character,, she will be truly missed x3

It was incredible how she was herself even at her end lol

being sarcastic and all haha!

we're just going to tell you how to do it this one is one of the easier ones to

unlock this is Lorenzo the destroyer yeah he destroys everything you can see

plans and C bought it and it again yeah he's usually asleep when we make it you

know excited to show you he's excited to

rock this character you need two people so go ahead you can pick any character

I'm going to pick smash he picks Savior so you want to pick this particular map

Chris Rush is the one yet that winner and you want to I put my disables I got

is telling what nice yeah I know keep it on disabled you come down here

and you want to lower it all the way to 5 that'll make you have got all your

settings to this that is when you're going to get game dark ok so you want to

make sure you keep your Knights on the same side so Savior or yes Savior is

going to be blue and mine so excited is that I'm gonna play as it we're gonna

play out tonight yes the act so when you go you really don't even need the other

controller you're just going to have him stand there so if you get two drills it

goes constantly and you can bust these crystals quite crazy and I apologize for

learning so to destroy because he is just going to be all up in

everybody's business this whole time he's got his own little controller that

doesn't have any batteries in it so it makes him feel like he's playing even

though he's not so what you're going to do is you've got to bust 24 crystals in

a row yeah we're not telling what night we're

gonna pick yeah I like sweets so pretty much you're gonna play this

game you should only play it four times to get twenty four for some reason I had

to play it five times in a row the last time when I when I got this character

this particular character now you tell you over here

yeah I'm tell you re super secret like icy want to pick the same thing Oh

you guys man after we get this we're definitely going to be changing some

grab two drills and go on down to them crystals I don't think the color of the

crystals matter I don't know why I picked the blue crystals I just do so

just make sure you bust this same color crystal make the same person win every

time

all right so that's 14 crystals we've eliminated flava

we've got 14 crystals completed completed yes we need 24 Wow

24 24 he said yeah yeah so excited nothing yeah tell me something I'm going

like see that you're holding a that is 21 crystals so we should play this skate

one more time and this will unlock that secret character and then regular imply

action I'm sure will show you what he does and and play item I guess you could

play as him haha hard to get and we may as well play

with them hey there's another one lined up kind of easy to get I say kind of and

we're going to come time I'll try and work my way up to a point

I know hired it I think I know how to and then I'll do it okay so whenever we

get our 24th axel is it that
