THEY STILL NEED TO GO TO

COURT.. TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH

THEY OWE THE FAMILY FOR THE

LAND. BUT THE FAMILY SAYS

IT'S NOT ABOUT TH EMONEY.

We don't want to go anywhere.

We all come from the spirit of love right and the whole universe is love.

It's only our relationship with each other where we instill fear in each other.

This project is actually very special.

I find that first of all, the students have been amazing.

I love the open mindedness.

And the willingness to learn about Indigenous culture which one of the reasons I go into

schools and teach in the first place because we need to start educating realities of Indigenous

culture.

It allows students to come in contact with First Nation artists and the culture and it

allows them to create an understanding of these people and these cultures which I hope

will create a tolerance for the future.

So there is a great openness, the students that are exploring and how to express indigeneity

without appropriating it.

I mean for today it's really just reinforced for me the need that students have to connect

with this type of knowledge in terms of being centred and in terms of being mindful and

in terms of creating with purpose and meaning.

Part of that is connecting with themselves spiritually.

And partly connecting with the larger community and with nature and seeing those connections

and those relationships.

This is extremely important especially for those that are immigrating to Canada because

anybody who wants to learn about Canadian culture, this is it!

This is Canadian culture and we need to make this normal and we need to have that kind

of platform where everybody is included and not just have a history of Canada that still

continues on today without that indigenous voice.

And not to just victimize them or patronize them either but just have them as a solid

voice in Canadian cultures.

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners look to land Genk defensive midfield whizkid Sander Berge for £18million

ARSENAL have Genk whizkid Sander Berge on their radar. The 19-year-old Norwegian defensive midfielder has been watched several times by the Gunners, who are considering making a bid of around £18million.

Sander Berge…could cost £35million. But according to the Daily Mirror they will have to pip Sevilla, Monaco and Everton – who tried to sign the youngster last season – to his signature.

Arsene Wenger has tried several options in his hunt for a worthy enforcer in front of his back line.

The Frenchman, who has just signed a new two-year deal at the Emirates, has Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny in the past couple of seasons.

  Arsenal signing Sead Kolasinac is pleased to be joining the Premier league team. But he appears to have run out of patience with both of them.

Granit Xhaka showed improved form in the last few weeks of 2016/2017 and remains a decent option, but Wenger is still keen to reinforce a position he sees as vital to improving Arsenals fortunes in the Premier League.

Berge is a terrific defensive midfield prospect.

hit some good form at the back end of last season. Berge has won three senior Norway caps, having played 15 times for Genk in the Belgian and Europa Leagues last season.

Everton were linked with Berge last summer, when he was at Valerenga. But the Toffees have a different scouting network led by former Leicester man Steve Walsh.

Voices of the Land - What inspired this project? - Duration: 2:19.

What inspired this project?

I had a student named Yuelin and she approached me and wanted to do a work of art based on

exploring her Canadian identity.

I had a teacher with Indigenous background and while we were doing visual arts she talked

about the culture of Indigenous arts and how that should be related to Canadian culture

and Canadian history.

I said to her in Grade 9 I promise you, we're going to do something.

We're going to have that voice and that culture shine through.

We did have to chose an element and with that element, we had to create a piece of artwork

that's kind of inspired by that.

And then we had guest artists that would accompany us and talk with us tell us stories.

I chose fire.

I chose fire because it's so raw and powerful.

The element that i have is water which is really close to me.

I chose the earth sign because my astronomical sign is related around the earth so I decided

to do that one.

I have earth hands.

I'm air and i guess the fluidity of air and how it's very creative and the movement

of air.

I kind of really resonate with that.

I never really thought about storytelling through painting before.

So I found it really interesting to hear the stories and the tales connected with Donald's

paintings so I'm really inspired now to incorporate some stories into my artwork now.

I think that was important for me always to have that kind of culture mixed in to modern

day culture as well and when I saw that a little bit lacking in Canada, I felt we just

need to have that voice and that platform.

She formulated a team of students who are like minded.

And she encouraged me to contact the Board and things began to snowball and here we are

here.
