Why didn't anyone ever tell me college was going to be like this?
They told me that everyone should go to college!
I thought the teacher was going to help me with every single assignment!
What I'm about to say is going to be hard for some people to accept:
Don't go to college if you suck at school!
Welcome back to CapOhTV, the channel where we know school is a joke but you still have

This video is a little follow-up to the one I did recently about how high school isn't
free.
Well, I got a comment on that video from mmmuuj and mmmuj said:
"I think some students really need to realize that college is not kindergarten and most
of the time no one will bother to cover the gaps in their knowledge as it is done in school
at the beginning of the year."
That comment reminded me of a long-held belief of mine that not everyone should go to college.
But the mainstream rhetoric is that everyone needs to go to college in order to compete
in a 21st-century world.
I've heard it said that the college degree is like the new high school diploma.
But if everyone goes to college and gets a bachelor's degree, then how are you able to
set yourself apart from other people?
If you're pulling straight C's with the occasional low B or occasional high D, then you should
not go to college.
And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
There are a lot of people that suck at school.
I think the worst thing you could do is sign up for four more years of it by going to college!
If you're getting C's in a public high school in regular classes, in a place that is designed
to hold your hand and pull you through the system and make things as easy and foolproof
as possible, then you're going to be destroyed in your first college class.
Let me give you a preview.
You show up to your first class, which only meets twice a week, which means that you don't
get to see the teacher very often.
The teacher hands you a syllabus with all of the work required for the class and your
first homework assignment is to read 50 pages of theory and write a 500-word reflection
and bring it to class in a day and a half.
And you're sitting there thinking: Why didn't anyone ever tell me college was
going to be like this?
They told me everyone should go to college!
I thought there were going to be more worksheets to fill in!
I thought the teacher was going to help me with every single assignment!
I thought it was going to be different because now I'm paying for it!
If you know that you suck at school, then please don't waste your time and money by
going to college.
Don't buy into the idea that just because you get a four-year college degree that means
that people are going to hire you left and right.
That might have been the case thirty years ago, but today it's more about what you do
than what is on a piece of paper.
On the same token, though, it's a belief of mine that if you want to be a lawyer, a doctor,
or even an engineer of some sort, then you need to go to college.
A degree in fields like that usually comes with a license of some sort and the debt that
you incur while you're studying for that license and degree is usually worth it because of
the high salary you can get after graduation.
But the type of students that usually pursue those fields are A-students with the occasional
B here and there.
If you're getting C's and some D's with the occasional low B, then you have no business
in a college classroom.
Your C's in high school are going to turn into D's and F's in college and then you're
going to wonder why everyone lied to you.
Please, save yourself a lot of frustration and know that you shouldn't go to college
if you suck at school.
How many times have people told you to go to college when you really know that it's
not for you?
Leave a comment down below and maybe we can figure out some things you could do instead
of college.
