(crowd cheering) (lively music)
- Guys, it's the 2018 World Cup.
Right under the Williamsburg Bridge,
this is Miss Favela.
I don't feel like I have to say anything.
This place is lit!
By the way, they can't fit anymore humans in there.
Guys, everyone's just standing outside,
ready to watch the game through the open doors and windows.
This place is a party.
Are you a fan of Brazilian soccer?
- Always, huge fan.
- Huge fan! - Big fan.
- I feel like you're here for the party
more than anything else.
- I don't party, I don't.
- What's your (laughs) --
my man's got a drink in his hand, he said he don't party.
You guys are just continuing the party
after beating Germany, ain't yeah?
You're switching from tequila to caipirinha?
Very nice.
You don't know what caipirinha is?
It's like the official beach drink.
What is it?
It's liquor, it's sugar, it's lime.
I kinda want a bigger one.
Are you from Brazil?
- Of course, yes!
- How long have you been a fan of Brazilian soccer?
- Since before I was born.
- It's a religion, and we're the only country
that has ever won five World Cups!
And we're about to win our sixth one right here!
- Damn!
What made you come here specifically?
- Well, I had my in-laws in town,
and I wanted to give them a flavor of Brazil.
- So excited to be here. - You guys aren't Brazilian?
You know you gotta teach them
how to move their hips to music!
- Oh, she knows!
- I don't think there's any other place
to watch the game in the city.
Miss Favela is Brazil.
- Everyone just, like, very enthusiastic, loves soccer.
I can eat coxinhas while I'm drinking caipirinha --
like, you know, like this is good.
- What's your favorite food from Brazil?
- Feijoada.
- Yeah, if you're gonna have one thing
for the rest of your life, it's gonna be a good feijoada.
- Miss Favela isn't just known for this dope party --
they're also known for their actual,
real Brazilian traditional food.
You've heard it mentioned many, many times:
feijoada. It's a bean stew with beef chorizo in here.
This over white rice,
get a nice piece of chorizo in here -- there you go.
You get a whole little crock of this.
This stuff is absolutely awesome.
Of course you wanna have some empanadas.
Tiny little pockets of goodness.
Maybe you're vegetarian, you don't wanna eat beef.
How 'bout cheese?
Is it good? Uh huh.
This is the picanha, fatiada, acebolada.
Am I pronouncing that correctly?
Probably not -- I don't speak Portuguese.
Marinated beef cooked with onions topped with French fries.
I personally mix these up, a lot of people don't.
One or two French fries fall in there -- not a problem.
It's not pretty, but it's fun.
I don't know what you skinny people do
when you go out to eat.
What if I could guarantee right now,
not only does Brazil win the World Cup,
they beat Germany 14 [to] nothing on the way there,
just to make up for last time?
- Yeah, I think that sounds about right.
- You would give up feijoada forever?
In order to do that, you can never have feijoada ever again.
- No!
- Would you take that deal? - Yeah, for sure.
- Would you take that deal?
- I'm gonna take one for the team.
- Wow, you would do it for Brazil!
- For Brazil!
- I'd say, why can't just break even?
We can beat them by 8, and I continue to have feijoada,
and everybody's happy.
(crowd groans)
- Guys, 2018 World Cup, that's what it's all about,
you never know who's gonna win or lose.
That's what makes soccer exciting --
especially a tournament like the World Cup.
If you wanna watch Brazil play,
whether they win, they draw, or they lose,
Miss Favela is always a party.
I'm gonna stick around,
gonna have a couple more caipirinhas,
maybe some more feijoada -- you never know.
Why don't you come hang out with me?
(lively music)
(singing in Portuguese)
- If you're Brazilian, you know this.
- Everything in Brazil involves drinking and dancing.
You gotta love this culture.
