Everton told to increase their £30m bid if they want to land Swansea ace Gylfi Sigurdsson

EVERTON have been told to increase their offer for Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson after a £30million bid failed. And while the Toffees chase the Icelandic playmaker, Ross Barkley is ready to quit the club to save his England career.

Everton will need to up their £30m bid if they want to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has spent £58. 4m on Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez — and may need to smash the £100m barrier to land his No 1 target Sigurdsson, 27.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins insisted last week his star player would only depart if the Welsh club received an offer they could not refuse.

He said: "It's hard to suggest what sort of value Gylfi has in today's market but to us he is priceless and we've got to make sure we do everything in our power to make sure he stays.

Gylfi Sigurdsson looks braced to leave the Swans after firing them to Premier League safety. Barkley has fallen behind 24-year-old Klaassen in Everton's pecking order and will not be their main creative force in midfield next season.

The 23-year-old Scouser wants regular football to ensure he is in England boss Gareth Southgate's plans for the World Cup in 12 months' time. Injury ruled Barkley out of the Three Lions' end-of-season matches against Scotland and France.

Ross Barkley is looking for a way out of the club to save his England career.

Gylfi Sigurdsson factfile Born in Reykjavik, Iceland in September 1989 Signed for Reading on a scholarship in 2005 before earning professional contract two years later Had loan spells at Shrewsbury and Crewe Joined Hoffenheim in 2010 before spending time on loan at Swansea two years later Earned a £8.

8m move to Tottenham under Andre Villas-Boas Moved back to Swansea in 2014 Won Swanseas Player of the Season for the last two years Six-time Icelandic Footballer of the Year.

Davy Klaassen has already joined Everton in a £26m deal. His place in the squad was on a knife-edge before he was crocked after dips in form and a public row with Koeman over his contract.

He went to Euro 2016 in France but did not play a single minute during the disastrous campaign under then boss Roy Hodgson.

And his last appearance for the country was in April last year, when he came off the bench in the friendly win over Australia.

Ronald Koeman is spent early in a bid to transform his Everton squad. Barkley has one year left on his deal and Koeman told him to sign new terms — or be sold.

Dutch legend Koeman, 54, is considering a move for West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans. The Northern Ireland international, 29, is ready to quit Albion after seeing Darren Fletcher join Stoke.

Leicester have already had a bid knocked back for the former Manchester United defender.

$10m Land Saga: Eletu Family Appeals Judgment Approving ICPC Probe

The prominent Gbadamosi Eletu family of Osapa London in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State has appealed a judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos, approving an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) of a private land transaction between the Eletus and their former lawyer, Mr Afe Babalola (SAN).

. In the Federal High Court judgment delivered on 19 June, Justice Aikawa interpreted Sections 6 and 10 of the ICPC Act as empowering the anti-graft agency to investigate allegations of corruption made against private citizens.

Following the familys dissatisfaction with the judgment, it instructed its lawyer, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, to file an appeal at the Court of Appeal.                  .

In the notice of appeal filed at the Registry of the Federal High Court on 22 June 22, the family raised four grounds of appeal.

The Gbadamosi Eletus stated that the trial court erred by conferring on the ICPC wide-ranging powers to investigate private individuals involved in transactions that have nothing to do with government revenue.

The family also noted that none of its members is a public officer, beneficiary or an administrator of public funds.

The appeal, stated the family, equally seeks to question the judgment of the trial court for its failure to interrogate the true facts of the case.

These, the family explained, include the fact that the Gbadamosi Eletus were contesting the figure of $10 million contained in the agreement in question.

The notice of appeal similarly complained of the failure of the trial court to follow established decisions of superior courts in determining fundamental rights cases by wrongly placing the burden of proof of likely violations of the familys on it instead of the ICPC, which should have the the onus of justifying the circumstances of infringement.

The family also stated that the trial court erred in its refusal to examine the true issues in controversy between the parties, especially the facts stated.

in the affidavit that the Eletu family had already paid N200m to their lawyer, Mr Babalola, out of his total claims for his legal services.                        .

The family maintained that as the custodian of the Supreme Court judgment on their family land at Osapa London, it has the power to sell their family inheritance and such. a decision could not be subject of an investigation by the ICPC.

The notice of appeal has since been served on the ICPC. The court, SaharaReporters learned, has already fixed a date for the settlement of records of appeal.

Relatedly, Mr Adegboruwa stated on behalf of the Eletus that the matter between them and Mr Babalola has been fairly settled. The settlement took the shape of intervention by Mr Adegboruwa and other senior lawyers, who mediated between the Eletu family and Mr.

Babalola.                              .

SaharaReporters gathered that an agreement has been reached to compensate Mr Babalola from the land allocation of the Eletu family upon the resolution of the issue of alleged $10 million.

On account of the mediation, the judgment of the Federal High Court is thought to have been overtaken by events. Yet, the ICPC has continued with the case for what observers think is for the agencys own interest and image.
