Youtube daily what to watch Jul 4 2018

JUDY WOODRUFF: The men's World Cup is in full swing in Russia, and the field of 32 nations

has now been whittled down to eight.

The early rounds produced penalty shoot-outs and late-game dramas, while underdogs have

eliminated some of the tournament's favorites.

William Brangham has more on the action from soccer's biggest stage.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: That's right, Judy.

It has been an incredibly exciting World Cup thus far.

Today, Sweden beat Switzerland and England knocked off Colombia to solidify the final

eight in the quarterfinals.

To take a quick look at this point in the tournament, I'm joined by Sebastian Abbot.

He's the author of "The Away Game: The Epic Search for Soccer's Next Superstars," which

is all about talent scouting and development of young players in Africa.

So, Sebastian Abbot, thanks for being here.

This has been such an exciting World Cup so far.

What stands out to you?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT, Author, "The Away Game: The Epic Search for Soccer's Next Superstars":

I mean, it's been one of the best World Cups I can remember.

There have been so many last-minute goals, so many big upsets, Germany out in the first

round, you know, Spain beaten by Russia, the lowest ranked team in the tournament.

And so it's just -- it's been exciting, and I think everyone who's watching has been on

the edge of their seat.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: You mentioned Germany getting knocked out.

A lot of the heavy favorites have been taking it on the chin.

Of the favorites who are left, who is considered the likeliest to make it to the end?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: I think Brazil right now is considered the favorite by most people,

with their big star Neymar, the most expensive player in the world.

And sort of behind them I think would be France, which also has a really star-studded team,

but they're both on the same side of the bracket, so only one of them is going to make it to

the final.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: We saw also two really of the most talented players in the entire game

get knocked out, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Great players often don't make it to the World Cup, but how do you explain that those two

weren't able to carry their teams the way people expected?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: I think it just shows how much soccer really is a team sport.

Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are absolutely amazing and are considered in the

conversation of the best players ever to play the game, but they're just one of 11 players.

So, at the end of the day, if you don't have the support around you, you are not really

going to be able to make it through such a long tournament like the World Cup.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Your book details the search for young stars across the continent of Africa.

And it's hard to not notice that no African nation made it to today.

How do you explain that?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: I think one of the things Africa lacks -- it definitely doesn't lack

passion for the sport.

It doesn't population.

There's a billion people on the continent of Africa.

But what it does lack is the kind of infrastructure to train and develop young players like you

have in Europe and increasingly in the U.S.

And so that's one of the things that has really held Africa back.

You're seeing a bit more of it now.

But they haven't been able to train their young talent in the same way that European

teams have.

It's very important for development of national teams to be able to identify your best players

at a very young age, train them from a very young age.

You do, of course, have a lot of the best African players who are going on and playing

in Europe.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: As I mentioned, your book is about the search for young stars.

We are seeing some of them emerge in this World Cup.

Who has stood out to you?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: I think probably the biggest young star who's emerged in the World Cup

is Kylian Mbappe, who is a striker for France.

He's only 19 years old, has already scored a few goals and impressed pretty much everyone.

And the interesting thing about Kylian Mbappe is that, even though none of the African teams

have made it to the World Cup, you have a lot of players from Europe of African descent,

like Mbappe, like Romelu Lukaku, who plays for Belgium.

And so even though the African teams themselves have not done so well, a lot of the immigrants

who move to Europe end up having children who become stars for their new European countries.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: So, for the soccer skeptics who are out there, we have some quarterfinals

and then semifinals.

What's the one match that you would point to, to say, OK, if you're skeptical about

the excitement about this game, watch this match and get a taste of what World Cup soccer

is all about?

What would you tell them to watch?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: So, I think, in the next round, Brazil-Belgium is going to be a very,

very good match.

Both of those teams have a chance of winning the whole thing.

Both have just an array of stars that play for the top clubs in the world.

So that would be good.

In the next phase, I would say, if France and Brazil both make it through, they're going

to be matched up in the semifinals, and that's a game of absolute heavyweights.

So that -- for me, I hope it happens, because it would probably be one of the most exciting

games of the tournament.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Are there any other particular storylines that have emerged for you over

the last couple of weeks?

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: I think Russia is an interesting one.

Nobody thought they'd do very much at all in the World Cup.

They're the lowest-ranked team at the tournament, and they managed to knock off Spain, who won

the World Cup in 2010 and is one of the top-ranked teams in the world.

And so, you know, that may be upsetting for some American fans, because, obviously, there's

been a lot of consternation over Russia for a lot of reasons in the U.S., but it's caused

a lot of joy in Russia, where the tournament is being held.

So it will be interesting to see if they can keep that Cinderella story running.

So, of course, one of the disappointing things for American fans is the U.S. didn't make

the World Cup.

The U.S. really should qualify, given the growth of soccer in the United States and

the group that the U.S. qualifies from.

And definitely the audience of Americans that are watching, the World Cup is down by about

half from the 2014 tournaments, since the U.S. isn't in it.

But I would encourage American fans to tune in, because it really has been one of the

most entertaining World Cups in recent history, and I think it will continue to be.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: All right, the book is "The Away Game: The Epic Search for Soccer's Next

Superstars,"

Sebastian Abbot, thank you so much.

SEBASTIAN ABBOT: Thanks for having me.

Climbing The Skirrid to Watch the Sunset - Duration: 8:16.

Both: Hello people of the internet!

Ian: And welcome to what is it Joey?

Jo: Something Vloggy at The Skirrid... Fawr?

Ian: Fawr!

Ian: Basically we are finally going to go and climb the mountain

that we've been threatening to climb for about a year and a half.

Jo: We've done it once.

Ian: We didn't take any cameras then, which was possibly foolish.

Ian: The plan is to sit on the top of The Skirrid and watch the sunset.

Jo: I like that as a plan.

Ian: Anyway, onwards and upwards!

Well, that way!

Jo: We're climbing.

Ian: Yes, we are wandering, as you can see, out of the sunlight and into the shade;

which is really rather good because it's 24 degrees today.

Jo: It's got up to 28 so...

Ian: Yeah, we have come at the end of the day basically because it's been so hot.

Ian: Hot hot hot.

Ian: Some of our viewers, there go there's the sunlight again, ...

from sunnier climes will probably be sort of thinking

'24 degrees is that it? That's nothing! That's sort of, you know, comfortable.'

Ian: And it may well be comfortable for you, but we live in Wales, we're not used to that sort of temperature.

Comes with a bit of a shock I can tell you.

Ian: I'm not gonna talk to you the entire way up this mountain

but we'll stop it various intervals and go ooh, look at the view!

Ian: you get lots of views like that, we kind of revolve around The Skirrid with this path a little bit.

Ian: So when there are breaks in the trees you do get to see some quite stunning stuff.

Jo: We've not gone very far, and it's been a while since we've climbed a mountain so...

we chose a good one to do it

because this one you've got the excuse to stop fairly frequently to take in the views.

Ian: There's lots of criss crossing paths so you can see there's a track there,

that I'm guessing they use when they come up and maintain it.

There's this path up behind me, now that's where we're going.

Jo: I've always been able to walk fairly long distances, but give me an incline and I stumble.

Jo: I really struggle with hills for some reason.

Jo: Must be my Achilles heel in the walking world, but I can go over hill over Dale,

as long as I don't go over the hills I go around them.

Ian: Look at how pretty it is!

This is where we're walking up and that, I would say, is quite pretty.

Ian: And if we're really lucky we'll get up to the top before the sun actually sets.

We might not, we're a bit rubbish with our walking.

Ian: It's a bit steep through this bit

and she doesn't know the steep bits very much.

Ian: Who can blame her?

Jo: It's all right going up, coming down woohoo oh

Ian: Well, yeah like a slalom.

Ian: Yeah, that'll be fun.

Ian: Anyway we shall keep moving!

Jo: We are in between inclines! Woohoo!

Ian: Woohoo... I think.

Jo: And there's a view, so we have an opportunity to stop.

Ian: We're about to climb up...

That. Which, I mean, it probably it doesn't really look overly steep

but believe me it is.

Ian: Especially when it's all gravelly stuff.

So I'm gonna film myself going up it and then when I fall over you'll be able to go

'oh he fell over.'

Ian: Oh, Jo's filming me.

Ian: This is really cameras from all angles thing.

Jo: Now we're coming up to the mountain goaty bit. ...

I don't mind the mountain goaty bit, because that's less of an up, ...

and more of a be careful where you put your feet.

Jo: Dusty and slippery

Jo: Whoops!

Jo: And wobbly.

Ian: This is the final few steps and it takes to get to the top, ...

but to the bit where you can see the sun.

Ian: You can see the Brecon Beacons, ...

which is lovely.

Ian: We now have that to climb.

Ian: It's the sort of place you feel like you should be able to come to the top of and go ...

'I can see my house from here'

Ian: The problem with that is we can't cuz we don't live that close to here.

Ian: We certainly live close enough to make it worthwhile to pootle out here to catch the views from the top, ...

and to sit and watch the Sun go down.

Ian: Speaking of which,

it's getting a bit low on the horizon.

Jo: So, I'm nearly at the top.

Jo: Just stopped to take a stunning shot out over to the Brecons.

Jo: I don't know the view from the tops going to be like, but the view from here is absolutely stunning.

Jo: Sunset from the top of a mountain is really quite something to behold.

Ian: We should get up to the top just in time to make ourselves comfortable and watch the Sun go down.

Ian: This here's the last ridge up until the top,

Ian: and we'll know it's the top because when we get there there will be a trig point.

Ian: We've got... probably about ten minutes 'til the sun starts to set.

Ian: Which, I know it's cutting it a bit fine. it's a stunning night I mean look at that.

Ian: it's pretty good innit.

Ian: And here it is.

Ian: That thing there that's the trig point that tells me I'm at the top.

Ian: Here we go, one trig point!

Ian: Skirrid Fawr!

Ian: Not that I'm I'm probably pronouncing that in any way shape or form correctly, ...

but again I can only apologise.

Ian: Well that's it, we made it to the top of The Skirrid, ...

we filmed the sunset which you've just seen, ...

and that was absolutely lovely and beautiful, ...

and one of those sort of moments that you're kinda go- ...

"oh my god I'm here"

Ian: But in a way of sort of like oh my god I'm having to hold a tripod to stop the camera from waving around.

Jo: And we didn't even manage to get any tea.

Ian: We'll be drinking tea probably on the way down, ...

but you won't see that because it'll be too dark.

ian: Anyway, we're gonna head back down again before it really is too dark to see, ...

and we will obviously be seeing you on Friday for the Friday show

when and we'll probably be telling you whether or not we got down from the mountain okay.

Ian: If you want to make sure that you see the next film and, you haven't already, ...

click the subscribe button.

Jo: Snd if you want to get notifications click the little bell

Both: To give it some ears!

Jo: See you next time Ian: TTFN

What To Look For Before Investing In Property - Duration: 3:20.

So I think when you're investing it's really important to turn to know your

own circumstances and take sort of a short-term, media term and longer term

view and try and diversify your portfolio as much as possible and the

reality is if you're not investing you're losing money every day because of

the rate of inflation so there aren't some great opportunities out there take

time to sort of be educated start small sort of don't put your life savings into

the first investment but also don't be scared off you know buy it buy things

that you don't even fully understand you know take it take a small position and

actually build up your your knowledge base there's a lot of great information

out there on the Shojin website but also on on You Tube videos and blogs and

articles so you know get educated and don't be scared about things even if you

haven't done them before because everyone has to take the first step.

Let me take a step back and say what you should look for before even investing

look at the people who you are going to be putting your money with you know they

are the ones that are fundamentally in charge of the delivery of the investment

whether it's a stock market fund, whether it's a property development project

whatever it is it could it could be funding cruise liners in the Caribbean

it doesn't really matter you know what you need to do is understand who you are

investing with and understand the actual investment that you're going to be

participating in a lot of people are just very passive with their money I

mean maybe you know I'm perhaps of a different elk you know I'm not that

passive I like to be you know fully in the knowledge of what I'm investing in

but fundamentally we know what I do want people to do is do their homework do

their homework on the risks read the information memorandums read about the

people that you're investing with and hopefully once you've read about the

rest of the market you'll read about Shojin and you'll see transparency,

honesty, integrity and investors well-being at the center of everything

they do you know those four things really for me set them apart from other

investment platforms and other developers as a cautious person I would

say do your due diligence but the beauty about the Shojin platform is that

there's it's a transparent process on what you see

is what you're going to get and the beauty is that in terms of investors

development to actually have skin in the game so when you're looking at a new

type of platform as opposed to just being brokers the fun part is that you

have a vested interest in making anything that's going to go wrong better

which gives a comfort of how the project will work.

With any investment I think you obviously have to meet the guys do your due diligence on

on the company their history as I said my track record with them has been has

been solid and not having had any issues so I would hope that they would also use

things like these testimonials to perhaps get some sense of of where

investors have put their money and how it's actually performed for them so

that's that's really what I would say but in the terms of the platform itself

and what they're offering I think it's a unique product which is which is about

the right time for the market to have that sort of product.
