Welcome back to Psych-Minded.

I'm your host Kalley Marie and today we are going to continue on with the eating disorder

series and talk about Bulimia Nervosa.

Bulimia Nervosa is a life-threatening eating disorder that can affect any demographic of

person, any gender, any class of people, and can be very severe.

The main symptom of Bulimia is uncontrollable eating, followed by a period of essentially

making up for the intake.

So the individual with Bulimia will have a period of time where they feel uncontrollable

in their eating and then eventually either make themselves throw up or use diuretics

and laxatives to help the food exit quicker.

It sounds very uncomfortable to talk about or think about, but for someone with Bulimia,

this a compulsion -- an obsessive thing surrounding food and is deeply rooted in a lot of different

issues.

The behaviors of somebody with Bulimia Nervosa are going to be, typically, revolved around

dieting, weight loss, obsessions and preoccupations with food.

You may notice that they take frequent trips to the bathroom after eating meals or before

meals.

Along with disappearing after meals, you may notice that they skip meals entirely.

Part of someone's Bulimia might be that they're afraid to eat in front of other people.

And so a lot of their eating is secretive.

This can only add to the problem because they feel a sense of shame surrounding their food

intake to begin with, and do it in secret -- only adding to the guilt that they feel.

So socially, Bulimia can be a huge roadblock to leading a normal social life and maintaining

an active social network.

Someone who has Bulimia is going to be constantly worried about what their body looks like,

if they've lost weight, if they're gaining weight -- there's going to be a constant preoccupation

similar to Anorexia or any other eating disorder, where it seemingly overtakes the mind of the

individual.

At a certain point, someone with Bulimia might feel completely out of control, and as though

they are unable to stop these behaviors and these thoughts; which is why it is imperative

to get help with eating disorders, whether through therapy or support groups in order

to help combat some of these negative thoughts and these obsessive behaviors.

Additionally, someone with Bulimia may have bad mood swings due to blood sugar levels

being off.

They may show weight fluctuations, whether losing weight or gaining weight.

And this may happen in a very short period of time.

They may also complain of stomach cramping, of feeling dizzy, or being unable to concentrate.

One of the most damaging symptoms of Bulimia is the damage that it does to one's esophagus,

teeth, and gums.

When you're forcing yourself to throw up, you're forcing your body to do something that

typically isn't always natural.

It's a mechanism the body uses for a specific purpose and certainly not to get rid of nutrients

that the body needs.

So when you're forcing yourself to do those things, it can cause a lot of damage to one's

throat and to the teeth.

This is due to the stomach acid that is regurgitated and can hit the gum line and start to erode

and decay the teeth of someone with Bulimia.

Additionally, the stomach problems from taking diuretics or laxatives can be absolutely detrimental

and cause severe pain and serious medical problems.

If you're struggling with Bulimia or an eating disorder or you're not sure, please visit

the National Eating Disorders Association.

I'll leave a link in the description below.

What's My Hogwarts House? - Duration: 9:39.

- Hello, hello, hello my friends.

Kaitlyn here and what's my Hogwarts House?

(upbeat electronic music)

So growing up, I was a huge Harry Potter fan,

like I read the first book when I was in 4th grade

and my best friend and I would play our own

like Harry Potter Hogwarts games where we were

like characters inside of the books.

One of the big things about Harry Potter is

kind of wondering what is your Hogwarts House?

And so everybody has like their own opinions

and you wanna take quizzes about what it is

and so I had always imagined myself as a Ravenclaw

because I went to William and Mary,

I was like top of my class and just always like

reading books and learning and stuff,

but when Pottermore first came out

and there was like an official Sorting Hat

quiz made by JK Rowling,

I took that and I was actually sorted into Gryffindor,

and I was like, oh, okay, well, I guess I can

see this because Hermione's in Gryffindor,

you can still be really smart and stuff,

that makes sense and then a couple years later

they relaunched Pottermore and had like

a lot more stuff on it and so I wanted to

go back and look and found that I couldn't

access my original account,

so I had to take the sorting quiz again.

I was like, that's fine, I'll just be Gryffindor again,

obviously, but when I took it, I was actually

sorted into Slytherin and I was like, what?!

How could I possibly be a Slytherin,

that just seems crazy to me.

Okay, so the Sorting Hat says about Gryffindor:

"you might belong in Gryffindor,

"where dwell the brave at heart,

"their daring, nerve and chivalry set Gryffindors apart."

Okay, makes sense, so what did it say about Slytherin?

"Or perhaps in Slytherin,

"You'll make your real friends,

"those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends."

Generally, we think of Slytherin as like

cunning and ambitious, right?

We tend to take that negatively and I don't think

that JK Rowling intended for ambition,

cunning, resourcefulness, to just be a negative thing.

So what I wanted to do is to take a couple of quizzes online

including the Pottermore quiz again,

and definitively decide, with the internet as my witness,

what Hogwarts House I'm actually in,

because now people ask me what it is and I'm like,

I don't know anymore, but we're gonna do this

and we're gonna accept whatever the results are.

So, first quiz is a BuzzFeed quiz

because obviously BuzzFeed is the internet's

foremost place to go for quizzes, right?

"You've made it to Hogwarts, which means you've already

"bought a wand from Ollivander's.

"What material is at its core?"

Unicorn hair, of course.

"During the end-of-year exams,

"you notice that one of your classmates

"is using an enchanted quill."

I feel like I'd be somewhere between encouraging

the other student and then doing nothing,

just because sometimes I'm like,

uh, just leave it alone unless someone else,

you know, it's affecting me directly.

Let's go with encourage the other student (laughs).

That's probably the Gryffindor answer,

I think at heart I wanna be a Gryffindor,

is really what happens.

"You would be most hurt if a person called you"

(stammers) ignorant.

"You're locked in a duel with a skilled opponent.

"They fire an unknown spell at you, and you shout:"

This one seems like weighted to be Slytherin

as like evil, that's not cool.

Probably Expelliarmus, I mean,

disarm them, then they can't do anything.

"Which of these most accurately describes

"your relationship with your closest friends?"

Surrounding myself with people, no (laughs).

I mean, like I am wary around new people,

but that doesn't describe my relationship

with my closest friends, so no.

"Which of your skills are you most proud of?"

Definitely not to make new friends,

we all know I'm very bad at that,

so yeah, absorb new information.

"You're allowed a pet at Hogwarts:"

A cat, obviously.

"Choose a Deathly Hallow."

Don't you have to choose the Cloak of Invisibility?

Didn't we learn that the other two were like the bad ones?

"And finally: We know the Sorting Hat takes into account

"your preferences, so which Hogwarts House

"do you feel you identify the most closely?"

Let's do Gryffindor, cause that's the one I felt like it,

(bell dings) hey, okay, see,

see, now look at this.

Alright, so BuzzFeed says I'm Gryffindor.

I feel like I've taken this before

and I've gotten this like exact result, so,

who knows, who knows, this is why we're gonna take multiple

and two out of three is what we're gonna go for.

So the second one is gonna be this Time quiz.

It's like done by social scientists, yeah.

"Social scientist from Cambridge University

"to create a science-based quiz

"on which House best matches your personality."

"If there is an important reason to face something

"that scares me, I will face it."

Yeah, definitely, if it's important.

"I tend to manipulate others to get my way."

Mmm, yes?

"I've used flattery to get my way."

Not necessarily.

"If I'm worried or anxious about something,

"I will do or face it anyway," yeah.

I hate it, but I do.

I see myself as oh, definitely not disorganized or careless.

"I wouldn't want people to treat me

"as though I were superior to them."

I guess, yeah.

"I will do things even though they seem to be dangerous."

Well, it depends, like, if I have to do them, yes.

If I don't have to do them, not so much.

"I'm an ordinary person who is no better than others."

I mean, I like to think of myself as special.

Like I don't really think that I'm really

better than others, but somewhere in between.

"I tend to exploit others toward my own end."

I don't really think so.

"I have used deceit or lied to get my way."

Maybe, sometimes, five (laughs).

"I often push myself very hard when trying to

"achieve a goal," yes (laughs).

Hufflepuff, what?

I've never been sorted into Hufflepuff before.

"Your personality shows a high degree of friendliness

"and humility, which are valued among

"members of Hufflepuff House."

What the heck, why did Pottermore sort me into Slytherin?

Alright, let's see what Pottermore says.

Uh, we can't really do two out of three,

if we get a different answer on every one.

"Moon or stars," stars.

"Four boxes are placed before you.

"Which would you try and open?"

"The small pewter box, unassuming and plain,"

uh, this one, I don't know.

"If you could have any power, which would you choose?"

Invisibility, sometimes I already feel like I have that.

Power to change the past, ooh, I would be change the past.

"Which of the following do you find

"most difficult to deal with?"

Honestly I feel like maybe cold.

I get so cranky when I'm cold.

"How would you like to be known in history?"

Kaitlyn the Wise, Kaitlyn the Good,

Kaitlyn the Great, Kaitlyn the Bold.

Either be great or bold.

Feel like probably great is where I would go.

"Left or right?"

Uh, right? (bell dings)

Okay (laughs) see?

I've now been sorted into three different Houses.

So Pottermore definitively sorts me into Slytherin.

This is two different times that I've been sorted

into Slytherin, but the other two quizzes I took

had such a low percentage of Slytherin,

one was 0.3%, one was 17%,

but Pottermore says that I'm Slytherin.

Let's try one more, tie breaker, tie breaker quiz.

"You're making a PowerPoint presentation

"for a class project, you: take charge,

"organize everyone and end up doing

"almost everything (laughs)," probably.

"When you die, you hope to:

"have achieved success and traveled the world."

Mmm hmm, yeah, achieve success.

"Which of these entertainment professions

"most appeals to you?"

The screenwriter, the storyteller.

"How do you flirt with someone you like?"

Not very well (sucks teeth).

Probably trying to have a real, deep conversation,

which is why I'm bad at flirting.

"In high school, your favorite extracurricular was:"

I guess student club cause it was like dance.

"You get home from the corner store

"and notice you were a little undercharged."

Probably don't worry about it, like I feel bad about it,

but I would be like, yay, extra dollars.

"Your idea of a worthwhile summer vacation is:

"hanging out and catching up with friends back home," no.

"Parachuting or diving off cliffs," no.

I guess a good book cause not many of these sound great.

"You hear that a girl in your class just switched

"to writing the same essay topic you've been

"working on since September.

"Resent her from afar, but say nothing,"

(laughs) probably.

"How do you get your time alone when you want it?"

Yeah, I've found that I just like tell people,

"I need to have Kaitlyn time, bye."

"When planning a group trip, you are the one who:"

It's either the first or the last one.

I'm not very good at traveling,

so it's difficult to like say that I would be

the one who took the reins on travel plans,

let's be the backup leader, who knows,

I don't even know at this point.

(bell dings) Oh my gosh!

(laughs) Guys, "you would be a Ravenclaw."

Oh, man.

Holy cow, guys, alright.

I was all like this is gonna be the definitive,

definitive answer for my Hogwarts House

and all I have learned is that

depending on which quiz I take,

I get a different answer.

So, I don't know, I don't know anymore

what House I should be in.

My question for today is What Hogwarts House

do you think I should be in,

because wow, I wasn't expecting this.

I thought that maybe I would get Gryffindor on one

and then Slytherin on the other two,

so yeah, question for today, you've seen me

answer these questions, what do you think

my Hogwarts House is?

And you can also tell me yours in the comments

down below, but (groans) I'm so confused.

I don't (fake crying), I just want an answer.

I'm exhausted (laughs).

Remember that you can check me out on my other social media sites

and there's a card over here that if you click on

will take you to my website.

There's a form you can fill out

if you wanna submit a question or video topic

for me to make a video on or a blog on,

and so just check me out on all those places (laughs).

Plus, remember to subscribe and hit the notification bell,

so you know the moment there's new video.

And I am just gonna go contemplate my

Harry Potter world existence because I don't

understand anything anymore (laughs).

I'll see you guys next Thursday, bye.

(laughs) (upbeat electronic music)

Safe Sex after 50: What We Need to Know about Avoiding and Talking About STDs without Shame! - Duration: 10:22.

let's say you're with somebody new and you haven't been sexually active yet

how do you talk to your partner about the fact that you have a sexually

transmitted disease without feeling a ton of shame around that

thank you so much for tuning in again to our second act with Paige and Silke

I'm happy to say that Bonnie Gayle stayed over for another segment on our series

of dealing with sexual shame Bonnie thanks for joining us again thank you

well if you missed our previous segment we will link to that we discussed really

you know in in taking charge of your sexual health and and wanting to have

the best sex ever after 50 that lots of us well probably the majority of people

deal with shame just because of history religion etc etc but we want to talk

about today is some specific shame as it relates to sex and as we encourage

sexual behavior after 50 I think it's important that we also encourage safe

sex Bonnie talked about that absolutely and did you know that like people over

50 are the biggest percentage of people that are contacting diseases right now

sexually transmitted diseases and so there is a lot of shame around having a

sexually transmitted disease or infection and the thing is is like how

do you talk to your partner like let's say you're with somebody new and you

haven't been sexually active yet how do you talk to your partner about the fact

that you have a sexually transmitted disease without feeling a ton of shame

around that you know that that would be really difficult I know that would be

really difficult for me well and here's here are the numbers one in four people

has a sexually transmitted disease so we're not talking about a rare thing

here that's one in four so you have four people in a room one in four

the odds are has a sexually transmitted disease what specifically well I mean

okay so you could have herpes you can have genital herpes you know you can

have HIV or AIDS but you could you know you could have HPV you know there's like

so many different things that you could get and the thing is is like it's all

about taking care of yourself so first of all we have to know that we have

something so what do we need so this is the first thing is we should always

protect ourselves so I always suggest using condoms for sex understand that if

you are performing oral sex sexually transmitted diseases do get contacted

and contracted in that way so you know deciding what you want to do about that

okay but so using condoms using lubricants that are antifungal that are

antibacterial so that you keep the area safe and so that it stays in the correct

pH balance if your vagina if your penis is in the correct pH balance you will

not contract or contact disease that's how it works that's interesting I don't

think I knew that I always say I learned something new or balanced they don't

mutate okay okay no it's really important that's why you know like

understanding that every part of your body has different pH that's normal you

know like the vagina is 3.5 to 4 that's normal pH for the vagina so if

you go if you become more alkaline than four then you start to get where you are

more able to contract diseases or if you are more acidic than three and a half

then you are more able to contract diseases very interesting I have never

had it explained like that I'm gonna have to throw that to dr. Laurie too that

would be I think that deserves a whole other segment so yeah and I think it's

important to be honest with whomever you're going to be sexually active with

you know you know you could say you know I have you know I have bah-bah-bah and

you know it like for instance if it's not active you know as long as I you

know as long as we use a condom and we use you know a good Lube we're not gonna

have any issues you know and but being honest about it

sexually transmitted diseases and infections like what if you were married

and you got it from your husband like what about that is shameful for you

it doesn't mean that you did anything wrong well maybe your husband did that's

the whole thing is like not taking on the fact that somebody else gave that to

you you know do you mean like not taking it on like oh woe is me like I'm bad

because I did that if you don't have bad feelings about it when you're talking

about it you don't blow it up and make a big deal over it and people take it

better you know like the more dramatic and traumatic you get about something

when you talk about it the more they take that in it's interesting we had a

common of your comment on one of our past videos a Bonnie I believe was the

one that did with you I think I sent it to you and this woman very well educated

big time on you know safe sex after 50 she gave some really good advice but I

wondered you know how practical it really is I mean she literally would

request or she said she does test blood test from men before she's gonna sleep

with them is that going overboard is that is it smart

what well if you're sexually active with a lot of different people

I think it's intelligent I mean look the reality is is that if you've had sex

within the last six months that you know all of that may or may not get captured

in that test right but if you've had a disease for a long period of time or

that's gonna show up so the thing is is like just wanting to know I had one man

that I have been with in my entire life who required me to get tested and I did

get tested and you know I I wasn't really offended by it what I was

offended by was that he was like hounding me to go do it it was like well

you know it's like once he let me know that he wanted me to go do this it was

like every conversation seemed to be around that and I was like wait a minute

you know this is a little ridiculous so it goes back to how you handle it yeah

ask somebody for this information exactly like I don't think that that's a

horrible thing to ask if somebody now odds are they could say yes and they

could say no and if they say no then you you need to stick to your guns if that's

something that's important to you yeah yeah the the other thing I know that in

conversations with friends and you know just in context with this show I think

our generation the condom use was not prevalent when we were young I mean

right it's because if you grew up and you were having sex like in the 60s and

70s right yeah you know in the eighties HIV first came out that's when it

started to climb early eighties so if you were having sex in the 60s or 70s it

was all about free love or anything like people weren't like oh we need to wear a

condom you know like and there was a lot of

multiple partner sex at that time too with all the free love right so you

could have something from way back then that never actually showed up do you

think our attitude towards condoms that we've carried that forward and maybe

that's one of the reasons that the STDs are so prevalent among 50 and over now

could that have something to do with it not that that's really important but I'm

just wondering are - yes I think that you know like people think of using

condoms as birth control so if you think of it as using as for birth control

then before you think you're gonna get pregnant you know you don't use it and

then once you aren't you can't get pregnant anymore see that's what's

happening is there's this whole generation of people who can't get

pregnant anymore so now they're not using condoms and guess where it's

happening in old-age homes they're getting STDs that's so funny to me but

it's happening because they're not using condoms and they're having sex yeah

well the good news is we have a lot to look forward to oh that's funny

well Bonnie we're starting to come to an end of this segment what what are some

important last-minute tips that you like to leave our audience with so if you are

sexually active with multiple partners to get tested regularly

and to make sure that you know you use condoms and you use a good lube that

keeps the areas pH balanced and enjoy yourselves you know and the last thing

is you know if you have an STD and you're with somebody new it's important

that you share that with that person before you are sexually active with them

Bonnie thank you we will as always link to all of your information Bonnie would

love it if you reached out to her directly we will again have her contact

information and we'll see you in our next segment of our second act with

Paige and Silke bye bye

thanks so much for watching and I hope you found this information helpful for more information about taking charge of your sexual

health after 50 please visit our website second act TV and if you haven't already

What you should know before applying to study Hotel and food Administration in Canada - Duration: 8:27.

hi my name is Kyle and I study at the University of Guelph. My major is

hotel and food administration and I'm a fourth-year student.

I'm here to talk about what you should know about what its like to study

hotel and food administration at the university.

Hotel and food administration is a major at the university of Guelph under the commerce degree it's essentially Business Administration within the hospitality

industry focuses within hotels as well as restaurants the reason that I chose

it was because hospitality industry is a good industry to pursue if you'd like to

travel and I decided when I was in high school at Madison would like to pursue

as being able to travel while building my career

you should definitely check out the qualities and universities your applying

to for whichever major is important to know which how they stack up against

each other it's good to look at their reputation as well In University of Guelph

you have a very long-standing reputation for the hotel and food

administration. I've gone over to the Fairmont Banff Springs there was

recognition of this program then i'm told it is recognized world wide.

When applying to university, if your looking to go towards hotel and food admin. Then University of Guelph is a good pick because it does have the Co op program

so between your years of study that you will work for a year within the industry

oftentimes rotating jobs to pick a hot see all different kind of

levels of management as well as the fact that it's a commerce degree so it's

well-rounded another other our subjects like accounting economics and marketing.

When applying to the University of Guelph for hotel and food administration six

university level or mixed level persons are needed from high school one of them

has to be in grade 12 english and the others and advanced functions it also helps

to have any experience in the industry but it's not required

At my university tuition cost about $10,000 averagely per year for a Canadian citizen

and for international students it costs about $20,000 averagely for a year

for tuition payments there's my national assistance available.

Most of it goes tthrough OSAP we apply for OSAP that apply for

bursaries the student by a few services as there are a lot of bursaries and

others about our students

In hotel and food administration I would say so the more difficult parts are

so you know the case study and trying to figure out your best options for a lot

of that case, to allow profit the most. your often sit down with many different

types of situations that you might have to do with the demographics of the hotel

revenue streams or in the markets that we try to hit and that you have to come

up with the best ways that they can target that market and benefit the revenue

the bigger projects that I have done in this degree was the case on

revenue management and it was a case where you have to study the essentially the

income and revenue streams that the hotel was using a real hotel that you

can go anywhere else in Ontario use their public numbers to

figure out where they're profiting where they're not. Appear that over time to see

which revenue streams were increasing which ones were decreasing and then come

up with a strategic way to capitalize on profits as well to reduce the deficit

Hotel and food administration is a major in the Commerce degree. So

alongside the hospitality courses that you will take you'll be taking economics

management marketing accounting which is quite nice it's kind of get well-rounded in the commerce degree.

Top three things that is important when going to university is to really meet your

professors my first day of class welcome to your class and give your name and face

and tell them you know you're really interested in the class just because your professors will

remember you and it's important to have that relationship in future second I do

readings it's it's kind of simple and easy to do, it does keep me on top of course

which is nice and the last thing probably would be to be involved is really easy just

to show up to class and leave every day but it's important to see to try and get involved

whatever student clubs you can and as well as anything industry when it comes

to the volunteering or working in a restaurant or a hotel

some of the courses that are important to study in high school and preparing

for this major if your university offers anything accounting it's really nice to have

just because you will be doing alot of accounting and have it that high school

background just they started there really does help if you have anything

in economic and marketing that's amazing otherwise my personal experience I took

math and science cuz i thought i was going towards career in that sense

however I did go this way and I don't feel like I was ill prepared myself to go into hospitality

I do believe if you take grade 12 Chemistry as well you get to bypass one of our courses

my advice to you for preparing this major, i would see if thats what you like

Try working in a restaurant and hospitality industry and see of you you enjoy this I

think it's a job where you really it's it is all about guest satisfaction

and really being able to apply them experience unforgettable. So they can go home and

want to come back to whichever establishment you run

If you think dont't this is not the right student kind of job career for

you then, it's good to check it out to see if it is something you like.

It's important to dip your foot in the water of hospitality and see if you do like

working for hospitality industry. Just because I find that it is quite different to

others isn't your standard 9-5 oftentimes your working in weekends and holidays

The thing with this industry is that it's a lot of fun and so it's

really if you take pleasure and provided people with sense of my experiences I

think you'll really do well on this major

common some women find they cannot continue taking iron supplements as they

become too constipated alternative intakes of high iron foods such as green

leafy vegetables red meat eggs and legumes are other options options

constipation is more common in women who have become dependent on laxatives to

poo or who have abused laxatives in the past

ignoring the signs of needing to go to the toilet overriding the urge to poo

putting it off delaying and just ignoring the body's signals can all lead

to constipation over time doing this can lead to changes in the tone of the bowel

wall and rectum which means the body is less receptive to the normal evacuation

signals

AI News | What is Artificial Intelligence? | Intel Software - Duration: 2:18.

Hi.

I'm David Shaw.

And welcome to AI News.

This week, we cap off the July episodes

by zooming out to take a broader look

at artificial intelligence.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

AI is quite the buzzword throughout the tech community.

But what does it really mean?

And what's it capable of?

Well, let's find out.

How do you define artificial intelligence?

Well, that's almost like asking, how do you define a human?

A quick search defines it as "the development

of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally

require human intelligence."

Intel Fellow Pradeep Dubey says, "AI

is a simple vision where computers

become indistinguishable between humans."

It sounds a little scary.

But in simple terms, it can be described

as making sense of data.

This reflects how many companies are using AI today.

Imagine-- you just had a baby, and you give it a name--

Audrey Ike, or AI for short.

In order to help your child learn about the world,

you need to give them information and tools.

Maybe you take the baby on a walk through the park

in order to learn about the trees and animals.

Maybe you sign them up for swim lessons

so that they can be comfortable in the water.

Artificial intelligence is much like having a baby.

You need to feed it data and information in order

for it to learn about the world on its own

and even how to come up with solutions.

However, different from the complexities of a baby,

there are two main components within AI--

machine learning and deep learning.

Machine learning is a program whose performance improves

as it receives more data.

From this, it can make predictions or decisions.

Deep learning is different because the machine

can find the best ways to perform a task on its own.

Oftentimes, it can see things in a problem

that not even an expert would see.

Given enough quality data, it can

be used to solve problems with remarkable precision.

In order to learn more about how experts define AI,

check out the article "The Many Ways

to Describe Artificial Intelligence."

And hear Pradeep talk more in depth on AI

in the links provided.

MikeNgary Updates! I'm Moving & What Comes Next? - Duration: 11:11.

Hello, Welcome to my house!

here lemme get you down from there so I uh I just wanted I just wanted to

explain to you why I haven't posted for a while lots of interesting and exciting

things have been happening in my life and from one of the first times I just

wanted to share them with you a lot of times I I don't I feel awkward

sharing my personal life to YouTube and so this time I'm just gonna I want you

my audience to be with me and unedited uncut and walk with me in my final day

as as I sell my house so I've lived here 11 years and I bought this house with my

ex-wife and after the divorce my couple of my buddies I was kind of mopey and

Gary thought hey let's start doing videos again and we started doing videos

and we did one called five Loco and this is back when four

loko was gettin banned and we did it right here in this living room and he

started you wanted me to be active to cheer me up and that was the start of

Mike and Gary and here we are it's 2018 and still making videos and don't worry

I'm not stopping videos there's plenty more videos my new place I'm actually

dedicating a whole room to video editing and vlogging and doing all sorts of

stuff but yeah my my life has been really busy and I just have

had time to to edit I've got some great things filmed for you I just have to

find the time I figured I just showed you some of the rooms of this house

because most of what we filmed for the YouTube channel has taken place

somewhere in this building so here the living room we filmed for a local of

course we did minecraft worlds collide we did oh gosh we did a spin-off youtube

series called a terrible things and we did a lot of reviews right right over

here on this where this couch used to be we we filmed one of our most popular

videos and tin dough vs. zombies right in this room so yeah it's uh this has

been my living room for about pretty close to eleven years

so let's journey this room my best friend Marcus Ross he lived here

for a couple years we filmed we would vlog a lot from this

this area right here we would we would we filmed part of the Ninja Turtles

video how to become a real ninja troll here and yeah so he is now he's moved he

now lives in his own place here here's my room and I think I did a lot of the

Pokemon videos here over here I spent hours this is where I edited pretty much

every Mike and Gary video that I did and then Gary edited the others but yeah my

desk was right here so hundreds and hundreds of hours have gone into getting

these videos ready for you guys and so yeah we did our Pokemon Pokemon

Cemetery my bed was right here and so we filmed

played Ash and so yeah so a good bye room it's been fun

so now I'm going to take you to the kitchen now

we had some trouble we're trying to figure out where we wanted to do our

reviews different things like we've done reviews for Nintendo Power and a lot of

nostalgic stuff old sodas so we did the Back to the Future reviews right here

when when it came 2015 we talked about all the different things that separated

our reality of 2015 to what they had and back to the future part to my table used

to be right here and I do a lot of the shots they close-up shots of the

different products that we'd feature that I reviewed right here and let's

make it up to see I'm gonna flip you around this is the upstairs and this has

been featured honestly this upstairs has been featured more than any other room

in the house I believe for Mike and Gary videos we there was a bar right here so

any review that you ever saw where we let's see we did surge ecto

cooler Zima what else we've done a lot of 80s toys we did the these old

Ghostbusters toys reviews up here I once - I wouldn't drank us expired beer from

1997 right over here it was really gross I almost threw up you can take you can

check that out man that was it was a Michelob dark lager and it was it was

terrible so yeah so here is the room it's not a very big room so if there was

a TV here right here was a couch and so for a Pokemon Cemetery

let's see ash my friend Johnny I played opposite him he played Brock

and so that scene was filmed there we also we did an episode of do marry kill

down there so alright and we did a whole bunch of couchsurfers episodes down in

this living room I forgot about those in couchsurfers episodes where usually we

would improv we would ask ourselves a question like if we did a Super Mario

Brothers movie who would we cast and that was one of the episodes I believe I

believe that's it it's the end of the tour so I just wanted to thank all of

you for watching all these years I'm excited too

for what we have in store for you I decided to do this video alone just

reflect and because this was my home since 2007 this is where Mike and Gary

began and I just wanted to to share this with you so let's let's get out of here

no for this place I you know oh one last little area this was our costume closet

we got so many costumes for Mike and Gary videos they had to have their own

closet so there are now they've been transported to the new location which I

will show to you hopefully soon so turn out the lights

see if I can lock this door one one-handed I'm gonna have to sit you

guys down there

sorry about that so here's what the outside looked like we did some exterior

shots here it's my coldest tack and you might remember what this house looked

like we showed it in a lot of our Pokemon videos so there it is Mike and

Gary studios moving on so but again I wanted to thank you and I am excited for

what the future holds and that the end of the day we could be gone tomorrow so

for once I wanted to share with you a little about myself and I hope you had a

good time so let's let's get out of here

I'm not sure how long this is gonna be honestly

that's just uh I'll take you with me I'll just uh take you with me down the

street All Right see you later house it's been been good doing yeah I can't

forget my seat belt

I'm gonna miss this place

goodbye for now

What Does The July Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse Mean For You? - Duration: 5:49.

July's total lunar eclipse is a strong spiritual experience for enthusiasts of

astrology and esotericism but will the Blood Moon eclipses affect your zodiac

sign summer this year is a bustling time of eclipses with two partial eclipses of

the Sun and one total lunar eclipse of the Moon the upcoming lunar eclipse will

grace the evening skies on the night of Friday July 27th the July Blood Moon

eclipses lunar eclipses are a regular astronomical event which occur roughly

twice a year but some astrologers believe they hold arcane powers

astrologer Barbara Goldsmith said many will be feeling a tide of change this

month as the lunar eclipse approaches she said we are now in the midst of

Eclipse season and many of you will be feeling the great changes taking place

coming next on July 27th is a full moon lunar eclipse in Aquarius at 4 degrees

in 44 minutes this is going to be the longest eclipse of the century at almost

an hour and 43 minutes it's also called a Blood Moon because of the reddish

color that's caused by the light that's being refracted from the Earth's

atmosphere so it's almost like we're in the build-up to something that is almost

extremely potent really strong energies the astrologer argued the fixed signs in

the skies are strong and signal a time for profound change to happen she said

we're moving into the Age of Aquarius and Aquarius is about finding new ways

of solving old problems that is what you are looking forward to at the times of

this eclipse this year the lunar eclipse will also rise in conjunction with Mars

which Jamie Partridge of astrology King argues marks a challenging week ahead

the astrologer said the lunar eclipse July 2018 astrology is mainly influenced

by Mars making this an emotionally challenging Eclipse

Mars anger and frustration could easily turn to reckless actions because of

harsh aspects of Uranus a more gentle influence from Saturn will make it a

little easier to calm down and some fixed stars give patience and

decisiveness in a crisis according to astrologers at forever

conscious Gemini's need to be on the lookout for heated emotions and

increased sensitivity brought on by the red moon the astrologers also think the

upcoming week will be a difficult time for those under the sign of Taurus an

astrologer Pam Gregory argued the eclipse will change people's friendships

and the social networks they are in she said this is a very interesting Eclipse

because Mars is integral is locked in to this total lunar eclipse

at one end we have the Sun in Leo at 4 degrees tightly conjunct the North node

in Leo at 5 degrees they are opposing Mars at 3 degrees to Aquarius the moon

at 4 degrees in Aquarius in the South node at 5 degrees of Aquarius and all of

them are squaring Uranus according to Katherine Goshen of Goshen astrology

emotions will run high on the night of Eclipse

the astrologer wrote on her blog with Mars retrograde and Uranus strongly in

the mix at this special full moon emotions can run high and you may act

rashly before you have time to think the call is to use this time as an emotional

reset period a time of reflection rather than one of high activity however if

intense feelings overwhelm you channel them into nonviolent activities which

can bring satisfying results astrologers at pandora astrology went one step

further and claimed the lunar eclipse blood moon is an excitable erratic and

defensive full moon the Sun in Leo and the moon in Aquarius will supposedly

reflect the internal turmoil of the self against the collective Pandora astrology

wrote with individualistic planets like Mars and Uranus forming hard aspects to

the full moon fulcrum people may be less inclined to compromise and work

cooperatively together you may feel like your individuality is being quashed by

some group expectation or practice or conversely you may be a part of some

collective which has to contend with some large and intransigent ego or

personality in your midst the astrology blog advised everyone not to fight fire

with fire during the influence of the Eclipse

so now that you have all of this helpful information on the emotional effects of

this intense cosmic shift what you do with it is up to you make the best out

of this time and remember your thoughts are extremely powerful tools use them

wisely and carefully

What Does Empowerment Look Like? Meet Educators from Kerman, CA! - Duration: 3:06.

[Pamela Millspaugh, Assistant Superintendent Educational Services CAASPP Coordinator] When I saw the digital library's extremely excited.

I thought wow free to California educators and everything is vetted in the library. Because our sight test

coordinators are working directly with teachers in the interim reporting system with their IADs and ICAs. It was a perfect match.

They trained our teachers on how to access the resources in the Digital Library

so that they can work on claims and targets to improve student achievement.

[Larry Karagozian, K-6th Math Coach] The Digital Library use on my end to help support the teachers in any capacity that they need in the classroom

and with the refinement of the filter system in the Digital Library

I'm guaranteed to meet that target area that focus and get the teachers and the students exactly the help that they need.

[Melanie Hawkins, 4th Grade Teacher ] I think the Digital Library allows teachers to really help differentiate their instruction.

So it allows you to look at the kids who are below grade level or near that grade level standard and

either reteach concepts or practice those concepts some more, but it also allows you to

challenge those kids who are above grade level standards and help you build off of the concepts that have been taught. [Lisa Sanders, K-6th Math Coach] As

a math coach I meet with the teachers and their PLCs and we look at their interim assessment data and

then I'm able to come alongside them and if they want me to do a demonstration lesson

maybe on a concept that their students have been struggling with I can do that or at that PLC we can brainstorm

different things that they can try to help their students with that concept.

[Hawkins] I would say the data definitely helps you reflect on your lesson and

decide did this work, that does not work,

what can I change for the next time to help me improve the way I delivered the lesson. With math

also

I think students were used to just giving an answer or picking a letter A, B, C, D and now they really have to show

their thinking and their process of how they came to that answer and I think some of the lessons that we have

used have helped them do that a little bit better now.

[Craig Hartsell, Assistant Principal] Knowing that the

lessons and activities given there in the Digital Library have been vetted by the teachers I think is the most important thing because

teachers are looking at teachers are using it and sometimes I think

when it's not done by teachers, then the credibility and the ownership isn't there. [Hawkins] It's so great to see the kids

struggle through something and then finally get it. [Oneida Gonzalez, 5th Grade Math Teacher] And it's empowering because they start using

those that math terminology, you know when they're talking to each other in groups and you know

you try to elicit good questions, but they come up with good questions

so it's just empowering to see that towards the end of the years like well, you know, we did something good.

[Millspaugh] I think the goal for driving education

improvement throughout the district is to be sure that we're all on the same page and we're moving together as a team and the Digital

Library helps that.

What TOO MUCH EXERCISE Does To The Body (Especially For People OVER 40) - Duration: 7:11.

Hey, hey hey everybody, what is up?

My name is Sean Hadsall.

I'm a 46-year-old stubborn fat expert.

I'm also the creator of an innovative system called

the Over 40 Ab Solution and Inside Today Short Rapid Fat

Loss video.

I'm talking to people who are over 35 years old.

So if you're in your 40s, 50s, or 60s

and you want to quickly lose more belly

fat in only 12 minutes per day, stop by, pay close attention,

say hello, drop a comment below.

Let us know where you're from because inside this video

I'm going to introduce you to a 12-minute metabolic protocol

that is specifically designed to reactivate

declining hormones for people over 35 years old.

Now I personally use this 12-minute metabolic protocol

for the last 10 years to maintain six-pack abs.

Now I don't share that with you to impress you,

just to impress upon you how powerful this can be.

Here I am at 37 years old.

These are progress pictures.

For 10 years in a row all the way up to when I was 46.

This was just taken in June of this year.

Again not to impress you, but to impress upon you

how powerful this can be.

Now when you click or tap the link that's somewhere

around this video, you're going to go learn

all about my over 40 Ab Solution system,

that the backbone of these is this 12-minute metabolic

protocol.

So you read about my wife's inspiring story

as well, and how this helped her get rid of what

we called her menopause belly.

It's an inspiring story, to say the least.

It was a cancer journey that forced her

into her early menopause.

And this 12-minute metabolic protocol

practically saved her life.

And you can learn all about her story over at our website.

Now, what makes this so powerful?

The first thing is it uses compound movements.

So if you're out there doing crunches or sit-ups,

remember it takes 22,000 crunches

to burn one pound of fat.

Doing crunches or sit-ups does not burn belly fat.

It works stomach muscles.

It works your abdominal region, doesn't burn belly fat.

DVD workouts, cross fit, Insanity, P90X,

amazing workouts, but they use ballistic movements

that can be very hard on the body for people over 35 years

old.

And they're so long in duration.

Usually 60 to 90 minutes, that can wreak havoc

on the hormones and the metabolism of anybody who's

over 40.

So instead, we use compound movements

that use hundreds of muscle groups at once.

They're easy on the joints, but they activate all the muscles

in your body so that you get a double effect.

You get the effect of building lean muscle at the same time

you're going to quickly lose more belly fat

using these compound movements.

Now the second reason that this 12-minute metabolic protocol

is so powerful is the hormonal aspect.

See I'm going to share two easy tips that you

can use to potentially double the effectiveness

of these 12-minute metabolic protocols in just a second,

but it all has to do with the hormonal effect.

When you perform these specific movement patterns,

and you use the intensity levels and the rest periods

that I prescribe, your body will release adrenaline and growth

hormone, which are both catalysts to help you quickly

lose more belly fat.

In fact, research shows that it can potentially

increase your growth hormone levels 400% to 700%

from just one 12-minute protocol.

Now I'll post scientific references in the comments

below, and you'll see tons of research over at our website

as well.

So I always back up any claims that I

make with scientific published research.

So the second thing is adrenaline.

When you perform these movement patterns with the intensity

levels, and rest periods that I give you,

you release adrenaline.

Adrenaline then converts into several other hormones

that are responsible for releasing

fatty acids from your fat cells into the bloodstream where

they can be burned off.

AKA shrinking a stubborn fat cells or more fat loss.

So adrenaline and growth hormone combined together

at the same time, you get this one, two punch

with this 12-minute protocol.

Now the third thing is, is the afterburn.

You see research shows that when this is done properly,

like I show you inside my system,

that you can elevate your metabolic rate

for up to 48 hours afterwards.

Now, remember if you do an hour of cardio, just regular cardio,

you're going to burn a fair amount of calories

in that workout.

But when you're done, your metabolic rate

is going to be back to baseline or normal within 60 minutes

afterwards.

Well, think about this.

In only 12 minutes, you can potentially

elevate your metabolic rate for up to 48 hours afterwards.

Your body continues to burn fat and calories.

It's pretty powerful.

Now there's a couple different ways

that you can potentially double the effectiveness

of these 12-minute metabolic protocols.

The first way is to simply do it in a fasting state

or don't eat before.

So either wake up in the morning on an empty stomach

or wait three to five hours after a meal to do it.

This is what will allow your body

to release adequate amounts of adrenaline and growth hormone.

If you eat before exercise, it might be a healthy choice,

it might even provide your body with energy,

but it's common sense if you think about this,

do you want to be burning the food you just ate or do you

want to be burning belly fat?

So also when you eat beforehand, you raise insulin.

Now insulin is very anabolic, so it helps with building muscle.

But insulin is a storage hormone,

and when it's elevated, it prevents adrenaline and growth

hormone from being released because their antagonist.

So by fasting beforehand or waking up

in the morning on an empty stomach

and doing these 12-minute protocols,

now your body's insulin levels are very, very low.

And this is what allows the body to release

adrenaline and growth hormone.

The second tip is to not eat afterwards.

Most people think they need to eat immediately after exercise.

I was taught the same thing for years.

And I'm not saying that it's not a healthy choice.

I mean eating directly afterwards the muscles

are kind of like a sponge that's been run dry.

So they want to suck out nutrients.

So when you eat after exercise, your body

is going reabsorb those nutrients very quickly.

And if the goal is to build muscle,

this might be a wise choice.

But if the goal is to burn belly fat,

you could defeat the purpose and block your body

from accessing fat as a fuel source

because again after exercise if you eat, the minute you eat,

insulins elevated.

So that growth hormone and adrenaline

you just spent 12 minutes releasing now is blocked.

So instead, I recommend that you ride the fat burning

way for about 60 to 90 minutes after the 12-minute metabolic

protocol is to let that growth hormone

and adrenaline work its magic then go ahead

and have a balanced meal.

So hopefully that gives you a detailed explanation

of how my 12-minute metabolic protocol works.

I have been getting tons of questions about it,

and I want to address them in this video.

So somewhere around this video, depending

on the device that you're on, you'll

see a link to click or tap where you go to our website,

and you can get access to my Over 40 Ab Solution that

gives you the exact weekly plan, the exact 12-minute workouts,

the exact exercises to use.

And we also provide you with a full-blown diet

called the Hormone Optimization Diet Manual.

And obviously you've heard this statement,

you know abs are made in the kitchen, and it is true.

These 12-minute metabolic protocols

can work some magic on your body if you're over 35.

But if you eat like crap, it's not going to work.

It's that simple.

So we also provide you with a diet.

So if you got something out of this,

do me a favor tag your friend that can benefit.

Share it, like it, drop a comment if you have questions.

We're seven minutes in and in today's world time

is our most precious commodity.

So I want to thank you for taking time out

of your busy day to watch this video.

Keep going strong.

The 3 Accounting Functions: What is Accounting? Who are Accountants? - Duration: 20:05.

Hi welcome to this tutorial on accounting basics. Specifically we're

going to talk about the theoretical functions of accounting and, ah, the

functions of accountants, and why they both exist. So first of all, I want to say

this is the first recording I've done in a few years, so I'm sorry if I'm a bit

rusty, and secondly I'm in a new location ah compared to previous recordings and

nearby they're constructing a block of units so if you can hear a little bit of

construction noise in the background, um, then I do apologise. Anyway here we go!

All right, so what are we going to cover in this tutorial? First of all there's

this introduction, then we want to talk about what is accounting, then we're

going to talk about what do accountants do, and finally we will talk about the three

functions of accounting. and then we'll have a conclusion. All right, so let's

get into it. All right, so what is accounting? Essentially, accounting is an

information system. Now whether an information system is software or

specifically IT related, or simply some sort of manual or paper information

system, it doesn't really matter, um, in this case. Accounting is an information

system. Now this information system primarily uses financial data so things

that involve money and finances such as transactions that have occurred in a

business or an organization, financial statements that are denominated by

dollars or euros, or so forth. And also, this information can also include

non-financial data. Now that's kind of important. Many people think I'm

accounting only involves money, but you'll find that many accounting reports,

specifically in management accounting, do involve non-financial data. So you may

have a management accounting report, like a materials variance report, and they

might have raw material inputs, in those management accounting reports. And that

involves some specific non-financial data, such as raw material. Ok, so when we

say it's an information system, ah, this accounting

information system has to be able to: Collect the inputs, so it has to be able

to collect transactions or collect events, and also then has to be able

to process, store, retrieve and analyze those events, and transactions, and then

generate reports, and essentially produce the outputs. And this is very similar to

other types of information systems. Ok, accounting is used in almost every type

of organization whether they're private organizations, public sector entities or

nonprofit organizations. (It's) We'll talk about why accounting information and

accounting information systems are so prevalent when we talk about the

functions of accounting towards the end. Ok so next up, what do accountants do? So

accountants, ah, interact with this particular information system and they

communicate the results they get from that system. So whether the information

system is a manual, perhaps in a paper ledger like in those old ledger

notebooks you may see from very outdated newsagencies, or in a software system

where I could see today, or even millennia ago they would carve

accounting information to pieces of stone! And accountant needs to be able to

record, classify, summarize, and communicate data into this information

system and, ah, analyze the results. So they have to record transactions, they have to

be able to collect the inputs that will go into the information system, they have

to classify the inputs. So they have to say, "Ok here's a receipt, ah, what part

of the information system does this involve?" Then they might have to

summarize the data. So they might have to say, "Okay well my CEO doesn't want to see

a hundred thousand receipts, all he wants to see is a summary of all those

receipts that I can give him in a five-page report." Um, he may have to, an

accountant, he or she may have to analyze what's in the information system so

accountants aren't simply robots! They often, ah, have to use their analytical

processes. They have to know not only what's going to be a information system

but also how to read the language underlying business. So they may have to

analyze the reports, and then they have to communicate it. You'll find

that most higher-level jobs in the accounting field aren't really about

number crunching, it's more about the communication side. So whether they're

communicating to clients, or to a manager or to, ah, investors, it's about turning

what's in the information system, in the accounting 'language', into something

that's actionable and useful for the people who aren't as skilled in

accounting as that particular accountant is. Okay? And there's a vast array of

accounting roles, specialties and levels of responsibility in general, so I can't

cover everything here, but um you can, if you had to classify them, which you

probably shouldn't, you could probably state (sic) accountants perform their tasks

focusing on either financial accounting, management accounting, taxation, audit,

insolvency, or corporate finance. So, again, it's wrong to put these in mutually

exclusive buckets, but you'll find most accounting specialists, if you go out and

do an accounting career, normally tend to gravitate towards one of those areas. Yes,

again there's overlap, depending on the size of the firm there may be maybe more

overlap or less overlap, but ah, generally you'll become a specialist in one of these

fields, before you want to move around; perhaps for career mobility! And in

general, when you're working as an accountant there are four main areas so

you can work in. You can work at a specialist accounting firm, and that's

known as practice. Like, public practice or private practice, and that's where you

get your KPMG's and you EY's, everything down to your local CA or CPA

at a smaller office. That's where you work with clients, you may give business

advice, and ah, you might help them out with their tax, you might help them out with

restructuring things in their small business. It's a, it's a, whole basket of

choices, but essentially, you work as a specialist accountant and you provide

advice to your clients. Now you may work in a finance team

within a business, that's known as Commerce. That's where you work perhaps

in a large organization, like a large, perhaps in a large retail organization,

or a large manufacturing organization, and they had their finance team in-house.

That's probably led by the CFO, the chief financial officer, and there are

specific managers underneath them, and they handle all of the accounting

functions within that particular business, and only that particular

business. Now there's a similar sort of role within a government department, it's

a very similar role to the previous one, except you're in a public sector

organization. And also some people choose to be a teacher. And they teach

accounting in an institution, and they become academic accountants. And they

may be working at universities, or technical colleges or, um, other tutors and

so forth. Okay so this is this is the heart of the lesson: These are the

theoretical functions for accounting. Why does it accounting exist? What led to the

development of accounting in the first place? And, when you study accounting

you'll be generally told that there are three specific functions to accounting.

We have to remember that, all these involve the idea that resources are

scarce and need to be allocated well, or efficiently or optimally. Okay? So if we

all had as much money as we want and there was infinite resources on the

planet, then accountants probably wouldn't exist!

So let's embed these three functions, based on the idea that we have have to

make choices between: Where we spend our money. (And) have to make choices where we

spend our time. And we have to make sure whatever we spend our time and money on,

that we do it well. Okay, so taking that on board, now the three functions of

accounting are. the decision-making function, the contracting function and

the stewardship function. And we're going to go over them each, one by one.

Okay, the decision-making function. All right. So people in organizations need to

optimize decision making when deciding where to allocate their resources and

how to control the performance of these resource allocations. And accounting

information can greatly help this! Okay so that the general preamble. So we have

to decide where we spend our money, where we spend our time, between choices

and that's pre making the choice, and then post making the choice, we have to

make further decisions about controlling the management of those particular

allocations, so we have to make sure that, after we've made the choice then we have

to make further decisions that: whatever we hoped would happen, is actually

happening. And how do we get a hold all this? Accounting information,

whether they're management accounting reports or financial

accounting reports, greatly assist this decision making. And this function grew

out of the Industrial Revolution so pre-industrial revolution, ah, life is pretty

simple. You had a house, you had your family, you had your kids, you probably

had a small farm, that was right outside your house! So all you ever did was tend

to your farm. What you grew, you ate, and if there's any

leftover you might walk a hundred metres and sell it at the market, or something.

Not too complicated. But once the industrial revolution, um, the ownership and control

of assets and resource became separated. And the scale of projects became more

difficult to manage and control. So there we were in our farm, suddenly Industrial

Revolution occurs, or not so suddenly but um it occurs, and now we don't just own a

farm we may own a factory, ten farms, our employees might not be our children who

are sleeping in the same house as us, but we may have 50 employees in

another part of the country! And we not might not be selling, you know, 40

potatoes at a market, we might be selling millions of dollars of potatoes, in a

foreign country. So all those easy things we could do in

the past, by looking out the window and telling our kids what to do, or doing it

ourselves and watching over it, it was impossible once the Industrial

Revolution. So we needed this form of standardized communication. We needed to

know: What was my factory doing in the south of the country, ah, last month?

What about the north of the country? How did the factory in the north of

the country compare to that in the south of the country? So the accounting

information became the standardized communication

methods, both to make decisions and control our decisions. Alright, secondly

the contracting function. Alright so remember the idea that

now we have, ah, not just our children working for us, or ourselves working for

us, on the farm, but now we have a large enterprise and we may have 50 or 500 or

5,000 employees working for us. So how do we manage and influence, to control these

large numbers of people, that are spread over large distances, where even larger

sums of resources are at stake? You know, I imagine if you're growing up in you

know 15th century farming community and your parents told you to chop the wood,

there wasn't much of a choice. But if you if you're living post Industrial Revolution

and you've got a CEO on the other side of the world, what's making you do the

right thing, when you're being employed by them? What's actually controlling you

and influencing you? And this is where accounting info can again help, because

you can embed accounting info into these employment contracts. And the accounting

info, within the contracts, can overcome the agency problems. And now the agency

problems, are/is a technical term or an academic term, for the situation I

just described earlier, in that ownership of the resources, (and) the control the

resources, like the managers and the employees, they're separated! So they

often have different motives. The managers and the employees probably want

to do as little work and get paid as much as possible. While the owners of the

resources probably want the agents to do as much work as possible, for as little

money as possible! So they have they have different incentives. So by introducing

accounting information into our contracts we can perform: bonding

mechanisms, and monitoring mechanisms. And these are the two techniques to overcome

agency problems. Now an example of (a) bonding mechanism, let's go back to,

we'll forget farming, let's go to mining. Okay? So I'm in Sydney at the moment, and

this is post-industrial revolution, and I want to start a mine. I've analyzed the

accounting data, and I've made the decision that I don't want to start a

mine in Sydney, ah, in Australia, I want to start a mine in South Africa. So I employ

a mine manager in South Africa to open my mine, and operate my mine. Now an

example of a bonding mechanism, we can embed into his contract, is we can say,

"Okay Mine Manager, if our mine generates, you know, X amount of profit this year

then I will give you a bonus." So we're bonding the mine manager's and my

motivations. We're saying, "I want profit as the owner, now if you if you give me

profit, then you'll get a bonus." So essentially we're bonding our

motivations so we want the same thing. That's, ah, one example there. The other

example is the 'monitoring mechanisms'. So, even though I'm using the bonding

mechanism to get my mine manager to want the same thing as I do, that's not

the only way to influence and control his behavior, his or her behavior, I beg

your pardon. Now we can include our monitoring

mechanisms using accounting information into the contracts. I can say,

"Okay Mine Manager I'll only employ you if you send back

monthly mine operation reports back to me in Sydney. So each month he would get

the accounting information, he would do a quick management accounting

information report and he would email me, back to Sydney. And then I could get

the report and I could 'monitor', what his performance is like over the previous

month. And that's how I use that accounting information as a monitoring

mechanism. And that's the second way we can introduce the contracting function,

using accounting information. Okay, and the final function of accounting is the

stewardship function. Now this one pre-dates the previous two functions, although

it's kind of similar. So the previous two functions of decision-making and

contracting we're all post-industrial revolution and

kind of involve the employee-employer relationship, and the profit motive. The

stewardship function predates that, and goes all the way back to the times of

kings and queens and lords and ladies and, ah, so forth. It was when one

person or one organization would own ALL the resources, and not out of an

employee/employer relationship, someone will be given a certain piece of those

resources to manage. So there may be a king in London or a queen in London and

they would say, "Okay, ah, lord, Lord Jamie(!), you can look after this area of land and as

long as you take care of it well, and you're a good steward of that land, and you

know, ah, pledge allegiance to the king and queen, then you can

maintain that land and, get a nice life off it. Now go enjoy that Lord Jamie." So it

still involves similar ideas to the previous two, ah, we're trying to control the

behavior of Lord Jamie, who's looking after the land and we want him to take

care of that land. We don't want him to trash the land, we don't want him to let

it over grow, and, we want to take care of the land, and ah, we also want him to report

back how the land is going, back to the king and the queen, or the bishop in case

of the religious organization. So how can both parties assess if the steward is

doing a good job? How can the king or the queen or the bishop know that the

steward... how can each of them communicate saying, "Yes, are you doing a job?" and the

steward goes, "Yes, I am doing a good job! Like, here we go, here's some information."

So they use this accounting information, um... Okay my slide's a bit wrong there. So,

"Accounting information within contracts can provide the communication of control,

um, control mechanism." Just remove that: "within contracts" so just um, that slide

should read, "Accounting information can provide this communication and control

mechanism." So we may have our the accounting information such as tax receipts of the

land, agriculture output and distribution, you know,

if it's a particular area of the country or land there may be gold treasure stored there, so they

could report back how much gold is on that piece of land, ah, using

accounting information. And they may even report on soldiers and armory available

for wars. So the king, who's in his castle in the capital, would know um, perhaps

how much gold is located everywhere in his Kingdom.

All right. And so you see it pre-dated, and it's a bit of a different relationship,

but they're they're similar sorts of ideas. Yeah, feel free to comment, if um that,

'within contracts' section has thrown you off. I should have double checked that. You know

how you always, you make mistakes, um not when you do typos and they've got the

red line showing you the made a mistake, it's when you

include words that are spelled correctly and obviously grammatically

correct, and ah yeah, completely missed it! So I'm sorry about that. Okay so let's, ah,

have a quick review. What we covered today was: What is accounting? And that's

essentially an information system. What do accountants do? They interact

with the information system and communicate the results. And what are the

three functions of accounting? That is decision-making, contracting and

stewardship. Okay! All right that's it! I hope it helped. Best of success, in your exams, and

your studies and if you choose accounting as a major. If you enjoyed the

And finally, feel free to comment below if anything needs clarification or if you

just want to say hello. So, um, it doesn't have to be a one-way conversation here.

If, ah, I can't answer like specific assignment questions, haha! You'd be surprised

how many people just send me their homework and assignment questions and, ah,

want me to give them the answers, but I can't do that. But if you

need any clarification, where you can help yourself, then feel free to

comment below. And, um yeah, I hope to hear from you. Alright thanks very much!
