A team of Australian researchers has discovered a new gene with a critical role in the immune system and they are launching a public appeal to help name it

 CSIRO researcher Cameron Stewart said studying the gene — currently called C6orf106 or "C6" — could lead to new treatments for cancer, influenza and autoimmune diseases

 According to Dr Stewart and his colleagues, the gene probably evolved more than 500 million years ago in organisms much simpler than humans

 "We found the gene by studying viruses," he said. "Viruses can't replicate on their own

They need host genes in order to do that. "So we performed a comprehensive screening looking through the entire genome to identify human molecules that are important for virus growth

" The process took about three years, working in a high-containment facility. Dr Stewart and his colleagues published their findings in the in May and, because they identified the function of a gene that had not been studied before, they have the right to name it

 This week they launched a new website, where the public can nominate suggestions

 Dr Stewart said he was going into the process with his eyes open and knew it was just a matter of time before Genie McGeneface gets tossed up

 "I don't mind it. Funny suggestions would be great," he said. "There is a body that does make the final decision so I don't think Genie McGeneface is going to get up, but let's see how many votes it gets in the first place

"Genes could lead to new treatments The CSIRO said the newly identified gene played a crucial role in regulating the body's immune response to infection and disease

 The hope is the discovery could lead to the development of new treatments for a variety of serious diseases

 Rebecca Ambrose is a former CSIRO researcher — now based at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research — who co-authored the report on the discovery

 She said there was still much work to do when it came to understanding human genes

 "Even though the human genome was first fully sequenced in 2003, there are still thousands of genes that we know very little about," she said

 "It's exciting to consider that C6 has existed for more than 500 million years, preserved and passed down from simple organisms all the way to humans

But only now are we gaining insights into its importance." Dr Stewart echoed those sentiments and said it was an encouraging moment for his team, who work with some of the deadliest diseases on the planet

 "It is a high-containment lab and we do a lot of diagnostics work for very serious diseases, viral diseases that don't have any cures and can infect humans," he said

 "The idea of getting to name a gene or being the first one to discover its function, especially an important gene like this with roles in cancer and autoimmunity, it's very fulfilling and it's one of the reasons scientists love their job

He has been an absolute revelation to me at this tournament.In Harry Kane, too, we have a captain worthy of the title

No, this young side probably won't win the tournament, although I hope for even more success over the next fortnight

But whatever the final result, they have already won our hearts and minds.After so many England embarrassments down the years, at long last we have a bunch of lads who look like the best of England, rather than the worst

My Top 10 Anticipated E3 2018 Games - Duration: 5:08.

Hello and welcome!

E3 is over, here are my top anticipated 10 games from E3 2018.

Marvel's Spiderman I love the PS1 spiderman games, so when I

say this new Spiderman game is the best spiderman game I've ever seen, you know it's going to

be good.

New York city looks incredible, gameplay looks super slick, and so many villains will make

for an epic story.

Best bit?

It's out this September.

Doom Eternal I really enjoyed the Doom Reboot, and Doom

Eternal seems to be more of that with new demons and the setting of a hell ridden Earth.

Some of the city levels in the original doom series were very memorable, so I'm looking

forward to seeing similar themes with modern graphics.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and birth by sleep are

great, the other side games I kinda struggled with.

So I'm happy to see Square Enix return to the main entries with 3.

I'm a big fan of the general gameplay and RPG progression systems here, and Toy Story

is one of my favourite Disney movies.

Just don't make me suffer any more My Little Mermaid musical worlds please.

Death Stranding This game is still a massive mystery to everyone,

and the more I see the more I think that Hideo Kojima might be a insane.

This game is so mysterious it's a selling point and it's really picked my curiosity.

Don't eat that, Ewwwwww

Beyond Good and Evil 2 The cinematic visuals of Beyond Good and Evil

2 were incredibly impressive.

They revealed Jade, the main character of the first game, looking more badass than ever.

They did show some very limited gameplay which looked amazing, the city visuals also looked

incredible, I just hope it doesn't get downgraded like with Watch_Dogs 1.

I reckon this isn't going to be finished for quite a while, none the less I'm still very

excited for it.

Fallout 76 An online multiplayer Fallout 76 is going

to be interesting and different.

I'm really looking forward to building my own base anywhere, grouping up with friends,

and nuking said friends.

I've got some multiplayer and always online concerns with Fallout 76 that prevent it being

lower down in my list, but I'm going to reserve those concerns and judge it for myself come

this November.

Cyberpunk 2077 Cyberpunk 2077 was a pleasant surprise at

E3.

I'm a huge fan of RPGs and CD Project Red make some pretty damn good and honest games.

There is so much potential with this RPG I can only imagine because We didn't really

see any gameplay, it was all behind the scenes so I'm pretty jelly.

Hopefully the public will see some gameplay soon!

Sekiro - Shadows Die Twice Sekiro is the next game from the Souls and

Bloodborne creators - From Software.

The core gameplay looks pretty awesome, I cant wait to get my hands on that crazy bone

arm - grappling hook.

I will say Sekiro seems to wander a little from the usual Souls like gameplay, so I hope

they manage to pull this new game off well.

Super Smash Bro's Ultimate I was really happy to see that Smash Bro's

Ultimate is an entirely new Smash Bros game, there was rumors that it was only going to

be a switch port of the previous one.

Having every character return is really exciting for me, I honestly did not think Cloud and

Solid Snake would be returning.

I'm also looking forward to Ridley, and I really really hope that there's some more

characters announced leading up to this game's release.

Speaking of release, the biggest reason to be excited for Super Smash Bro's Ultimate?

I can play it this December.

Devil May Cry 5 My number 1 game, this is more of a personal

thing.

I was quite a big fan of the Devil May Cry series, I was quite sad when the series was

reboot with the last game DMC - it was still a pretty good game but I really missed the

original legendary characters.

I'm so excited to see Nero, Dante, and possibly Vergil return in what looks it might be the

best Devil May Cry yet.

Even the music played during the trailer was awesome and has hyped me up even more.

So Zero Latency is the global leader in first-person, free-roaming, multiplayer virtual reality gaming

There are no cords, no wires, completely untethered in the environment, so there's eight people

roaming around in the game space, interacting with each other in the virtual world.

We have Zombie Survival.

It's a case of defending a fort, if you like, against a zombie attack.

Engineerium, which is a great introduction to virtual reality if you haven't played it before.

It's very peaceful but it's just a great experience to walk around the virtual world,

where gravity takes on a slightly different meaning.

Singularity, which is a 30-minute game in itself - it is a first-person shoot 'em up.

You are fighting against rogue drones and robots on a space station, but it's an element

of a lot of adventure in there as well.

There is a lot of movement.

You work collaboratively as a team.

VR is actually bringing the gaming experience to a whole new level of realism.

So you are actually can feel it, you can touch it, you are there.

Most games and movies aim to bring you to a different place, put you into the skin of a hero.

Now, in VR, you actually are that hero, you are brought to that place, you are physically

there, and you can live through all the experience.

And most of your senses will actually tell you that this is real.

While you are playing a conventional game, you just have a screen and some speakers around you.

The fact that we can physically control the game ourselves by our entire body movements,

it takes gaming and personal gaming to a whole different stratosphere.

So gone are the days where people are sitting stationary behind a console, or with their

keyboard or mouse or joystick.

Now, the human body is the game controller.

It takes that level of immersion inside a game to a whole new level.

So the challenge of...

I guess the major challenge we face is communicating how good this technology is to people, letting

them know about it, and encouraging people to come and try it.

I personally think that the technology is so new and it's developing so fast that

when people come here, they need to be educated, they need to be taught how to use the equipment,

how to use the control or what this thing is all about.

People don't really know what VR is.

They hear a lot of things from the news, from the media, and when they come here, or when

they contact us, they don't really know what they want.

So, we have to tell them what we can actually do, what we do offer, and how is it different

from what they have in mind.

The sky's the limit when it comes to VR, it really is.

And I think what Zero Latency has managed to do here with the hardware and, of course,

the content, is take a huge leap forward when it comes to entertainment and gaming.

For example, for us, I mentioned to you that we are also doing real life escape games.

We are also applying this concept of VR, creating 360 VR movies, and real-life puzzles, where

from virtual reality, you can actually interact with real life, and you have to solve a puzzle

together with your friends.

I also think that you will see large VR arenas, or maybe entire theme parks.

In fact, I've already read about one being developed in China.

I know for a fact that in many parts of the world, VR and free-roaming VR is used in commercial

real estate, meaning the content developers will build an apartment with the selling off-the-plan,

and will get potential buyers to walk through the apartment.

So it's this type of immersion that allows people to be in another reality when they

actually can't be there, so it could be anything.

You know, I think in the future it will be used for holidays, for travel.

So where are you going to go this afternoon?

I think I might go to New York City or something like that.

And you spend a couple of hours walking around New York City.

We're only scratching the surfaces to what VR can do, and what the game developers, the

content developers can do.

So that's an exciting thing right now is that, already we have amazing, you know, experiences

to offer people, but what we're going to see in the next 6 to 12 months, even into

the next couple of years is really exciting.

Spherical controller makes gaming accessible for disabled users - Duration: 1:45.

Mylo is a spherical gaming device intended to build cognitive ability

speed of information processing and aid rehabilitation

as well as becoming a household gaming device that everyone can play with.

The inspiration for Mylo came from my 24-year-old sister, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

She decided to walk a mile - hence the name Mylo - around 18 months ago

and suffered severe muscle spasms meaning that I wanted to develop a product

that could build her mental fitness and her dexterity levels.

The way Mylo works is the user picks it up from the charging docking station.

There's a dial unit, as well as five illuminated buttons around the edge and on top.

Next to each button, there's a speaker, a light sensor and a microphone

so they can interact with their voice, their ears, you know...

really interacting with the product in any way they can.

The device also links to an app, where the user can explore a range of fun games

aimed to aid rehabilitation, for example if they've broken a wrist.

It also seeks to improve hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and speed of information processing

as well as building cognitive ability for people with specific disabilities.

I see the future of Mylo being used as an occupational therapy aid

for people with cerebral palsy or similar kinds of disabilities

as well as it being a family orientated gaming device

that can work alongside other gaming platforms and tablets mobile phones, etc.
