How Does a Case End Up at the Supreme Court? [No. 86] - Duration: 2:58.
Cases come to the Supreme Court almost exclusively from two sources.
A decision of a state Supreme Court that involves a federal question, constitutional or statutory.
And cases from the federal courts of appeals that raise a question that the court decides
is worthy of further review, or in a few instances that have to be heard by the Supreme Court
by reason of appeal.
The court system is hierarchical with three tiers in the structure.
So there's a trial court and a court of appeals and then ultimately a Supreme Court.
The facts have been settled by the trial court and will not be upset unless there is a blatant
or so-called clear error.
The federal circuit courts and the intermediate courts of appeals in the states are reviewing
decisions of the trial courts and there the review is de novo, meaning to say without
any deference to the trial court.
The court of appeals makes its own decision about what the law means.
The losing party in any court of appeals or in a state Supreme Court may petition for
further review in the Supreme Court.
The way in which one requests review by the court is to petition for a writ of certiorari.
That is a writ that would be directed to the lower court to send the record to the
Supreme Court.
Typically, the justices receive a recommendation from their law clerks or in the last few decades
there has been a certiorari pool in which one law clerk from one of the justice's chambers
writes a memorandum that is sent to all of the justices in the pool.
The Supreme Court decides whether to accept the case for review or whether to grant a
petition for certiorari by a vote of its members.
It takes four votes out of the nine for a petition to be granted.
The court is now receiving upwards of 8,000 petitions for review every year and is hearing
about 80 cases a year.
So that's about one percent of the requests that it receives.
Of the 80 or so cases that the Supreme Court hears every year, about a quarter are cases
raising constitutional issues and some of those are very important or very controversial.
The other 60 cases that the court hears each year may be relatively routine statutory questions
in which different courts of appeals have come to different conclusions and the Supreme
Court needs to resolve the conflict so that people know what the law means and what their
rights and obligations are.

How to Set Up a Landing Page for Beginners - Duration: 19:03.
what's going on guys it's Brian from BG meeting innovation and today I want to
bring you some great content if you're new to the channel
it's full of digital marketing tips ecommerce insights and really
step-by-step how-to content for any aspiring entrepreneur that wants to make
money online so if you're new to the channel go and hit that subscribe button
so you don't miss anything and with that being said we're just gonna jump right
in
alright guys so today we're gonna go through the basics of setting up a
landing page now we're not going to get too too in-depth with it I have an
entire course on how to build your own website and if you're interested in that
that will obviously be linked in the description as always for ten dollar
link I also have a course on building a blog that was is 100% free and if you
haven't checked out you know my latest video on how you can basically set up a
free blog that will be dropped in the upper right hand corner right now is a
card go and check that out first and then you
can set your free blog up and then come back to kind of you know test out this
theory and kind of build on your landing page because what we're gonna do right
here is probably the most important part of your website in a lot of different
aspects and we're going to go through that process right here for you so we're
gonna start building something in a second here but like I said that free
course if you're interested in building a free blog that's gonna generate you
affiliate income that will also be linked in the description
nuf blogs there's the only plugs let's move on so whether you're maybe you're
doing an affiliate blog and if you're doing an affiliate blog or cpa blog or
something along those lines if you're just trying to start a blog maybe it's a
review niche blog or something like that you're obviously going to want to go the
blog feature route now we're on Wix and obviously last blog right here
I like Wix just in general we'll get this out of the way you could use
something like WordPress if you want if you're looking for a little bit more
freedom and I have used WordPress in the past however in my opinion wix's a
little bit more user friendly it's a little bit more beginner friendly too so
anybody can hop on Wix and set up their own website and you look here if this
website that is mine b:g meeting innovation and I set this
website up 100% for free or sorry not 100 for free yeah I misspoke there I set
this up 100 cent easily on Wix literally so many different things that you can
implement on Wix and you know basically literally across the board it's super
easy for anybody that's a beginner now I have experience in setting on websites
but this drop it took me about a day on Wix and you can set up your own website
in about a day on Wix - it's very very easy so I'll drop an affiliate link for
Wix if you're looking to join Wix in the description below those two courses you
know you don't have to go through that the affiliate link but obviously it
helps support the channel because I get a commission with that being said that
we're gonna move on I'm gonna talk about how to build the landing page of your
website maybe you're doing an affiliate blog maybe you're just setting up a
brand and you want a website for that brand whatever the case is regardless it
should be relatively similar across the board no matter what type of a website
you're setting up because you want to capture emails or at least send people
to a general spot so I'm gonna hit probably online store and I'm gonna sell
because I plan on selling things on this on this website now clearly I'm not
creating a website but that's the general idea if you want to go the blog
route like I said click choose the bagua growl if you're just maybe potentially
trying to look to set up know you know a brand then just go business or design or
something like that it's very very easy you're not attached to anything you can
go back but it just kind of gives you the layout so you can use if you're a
little bit you need you know a little bit of beginner help I suggest going to
the right when you when you first get here and that'll take you to the Wix
editor it'll it'll give you tips and tricks and kind of guide you through the
process it's really beginner friendly but I'm gonna go to Wix 80 out avi route
because I'm a little bit more advanced with it but it's still very simplistic
anybody can do this I promise you so right here we're gonna fill out what
it is I'm just gonna say clothing store even though it's not none of this really
matters we're just kind of going through the basics of setting up the landing
page we're not gonna go too too in-depth with you know getting too specific we're
not gonna build the entire website because I have an entire course on that
for this will just say BG media just for the specific example but obviously I'm
not gonna be using this website and I'm gonna skip this cuz it's not located
we're online because we all make our money online so here right here you can
look add your logo you can add you know your social media networks and that will
pop up on the side so on and so forth you can obviously take them down later
I'm gonna just skip this for the sake of the time being but you can obviously go
through those in-depth and put all your information in so now I'm gonna hit
start and I'm gonna pick a style so I like classic I kind of like clean a
little bit and elegant it really just depends you can always go back and
switch it if you don't like but for the sake of right now let's go
clean let's just pick a different one and now it's going to prepare and we're
gonna create the website and you'll see here that it upload and once it's ready
to go we're simply gonna set up the landing page so when I say landing page
what do I mean just for those of you out there that are a little bit you know new
to building websites or so on and so forth you'll see here that we're on my
BG media innovation web site now this first web the the home page is
essentially the landing page that's where people kind of come in and are
directed you know to do something or that's their first impression of your
web site so we're all we're really gonna do is get capture emails today I'm gonna
set up the landing page so you can capture emails because that's the most
important thing now for beginners or most people you're gonna want your email
capture right here in the beginning above the fold now a little caveat above
the fold is everything above the that they can see on the screen so anything
down here below MacBook is below the fold like that's below the fold anything
down here is below the fold typically you're gonna want your email capture
like right here to be below or above the fold sorry so you want it up here when
people land there that'll kind of prompt them you want to give them something
free maybe you have a drop shipping website and your offering you know a
free coupon to first time you know visitors or something like that it's an
incentive for them to give you their email so that you can capture their
email and market to them later but obviously they get something out of it
too so I have mine down here because I also have a lightbox we'll see that when
you come to my website a lightbox also pops up and I can set that up with you
too and we're going to do that here in in
the future in a couple minutes but it's just important to realize where's my
lightbox pop-up there we go so it's a little bit too late on purpose um you
know but and this is obviously a little bit juvenile I still hate this I need to
change this but just for the sake of you know kind of showing you the process
we're really concerned about above-the-fold
know if you have a blog you're gonna want to put some blog posts in there cuz
you don't want your website to be empty you're also gonna want to potentially
tell and this is something I talked about my course in depth you're also
going to want to fill out other you know links on your website so you'll see here
I have contact which will take you down here I have BG
University where you can buy all my courses I also have the more tab which
kind of comes in with all the recommended stuff that I have all these
are basically affiliate products that I recommend that I use myself and you know
the motivation hub so the the content of my website is filled out but the heart
of it the meat of it where people kind of come are this landing page right here
and that's what we're gonna be building today just like the above the fold and
capturing the email so I'm gonna take you through the simple process of it so
here we are back here and X out of this now this is everything I don't know what
I just did nope didn't do that now this is a
everything above the fold right here this is what we're interested in right
here and you'll also notice that you can go to mobile view to what is this what's
at avi that's uh yeah we're gonna go to the editor not Wix avi sorry which I
misspoke when I was the one on the left there sometimes it used to be on the
right they must have updated but the Wix Adi is a little bit more beginner
friendly that's where we just were so I'm gonna go to the Wix editor Wix Adi
is the beginner friendly one and while that's kind of loading here we go this a
little bit better and this is pretty much everything above the fold right
here so when people land on my website I want to capture their email somewhere in
here before they get anywhere else because they'll start to notice
conversions drop off when you put it other places so for the sake of today
I'm just gonna kind of drag this up and you'll notice that everything on Wix is
drag-and-drop it's really really easy and you can kind of see here too that
the there's lines to kind of keep everything intact so I'm gonna drag this
up and we're going to use this as our capture box just briefly and what you're
gonna want to do is I'm actually gonna bleep that oops
and we are going to enter actually I'm gonna delete that too and we are going
to enter and add and this is just a little caveat here you can add things
you can add text you can obviously add an image you can you know go to your
lightbox which is something that we'll add in after we set this up in a second
but what I'm going to set up is a contact form
to capture email so it's very very simplistic and I'm gonna go to this one
cuz I kind of like this one sure what that meant but and now we're gonna
pretty much drag it down so right here we're gonna count we're gonna capture
the emails now for the sake of giving you an example because I know a lot of
people that watch this you know are setting up an affiliate blog so if
you're setting up an affiliate blog you know you're just gonna want to capture
emails to remarket affiliate products maybe you're going down with a review
niche so you want to kind of say you know for the latest reviews right to
your email you know sign up or something like that if you have a drop shipping
store maybe you're gonna wanna say something like you know 10% off for
first time you know first-time visitors grab it and then this will say ten you
know grab your 10% discount or a 15% discount something to entice them to
sign up to your email list so I'm gonna add text to kind of say that and for the
sake of an example here we're gonna say basically you'll see here and it would
mean for I offer my free drop shipping courses for people to sign up on my
website so you sign up you get both my free drop shipping courses and that's
the incentive there however for the sake of this example I'm gonna basically say
that we're gonna do a drop shipping source so we're gonna just pretend that
we're gonna do a drop shipping store and I'm gonna say you know 15% off for first
time we're first purchase
and we are going to edit that text and this is very simple stuff guys but I
know a lot of people out there are trying to build their brand they're
trying to build a website why is it's not editing text come on man all right
then very strange edit text

all right well while that's being weird we're not edit this so I'm gonna double
click on the like on this form right here and we're gonna manage the form
it's very simple to do so this is where you can obviously all the the people
that sign up you want to send them to an email maybe you want to set up an
autoresponder you know if you guys want to see a video of me setting up an
autoresponder and how you can do that let me know in the comments section as
always I want this to be a discussion so it's not you know just my channel it's
not just your channel it's everyone's channel this is a community and I want
us all to grow so what do you want to see if you want to see something you

it but for the sake of this I'm just gonna send it to my personal email which

hooked up to an autoresponder it's hooked up to my business website so
we're gonna set that up for the email text you know obviously your email
address you don't want them to send this is something that's important here you
don't want to click name on and you don't want to click you know phone on
because you want there to be as the least amount of barriers to entry for
them to submit that email as possible you don't need their name you don't need
their phone over the title you do want to change however those so it says join
our mailing list I would say you know get maybe like get your discount tell
them what they're going to get and then the subtitle you don't need a subtitle
now for the button you want to change it so it doesn't say subscribe because then
it will say get your discount book subscribe you don't want to tell them
that they're subscribing to your newsletter that's already implied they
kind of know that you want to see something else maybe you say actually
this right here you probably get your discount get your discount now and this
might be fifteen percent off
15% off there we go and then thank you message
you want to just kind of convey this is very very you know normal stuff but
instead of saying thanks are subscribing because they just subscribe you want to
say you know thank you something along these lines like thank you your your
discount should be in your inbox geez cannot type today wow this is crazy
shortly whoa all right we'll send us your inbox yeah cut that will say your
discount should be in your inbox shortly thank you as the subtitle and then
you're pretty much done and then you want to obviously make the 15 percent
off in the middle so you can change the layout of that and header alignment you
want in the middle you can also make it vertical if you want I kind of like the
whole the the vertical horizontal I mean I kind of like the vertical it looks a
little bit better in my opinion and I like this design so with the design you
can obviously play around with these maybe you want to go classic design
postcard design I'll keep it plain and simple with strip
I think that converts better my opinion but it's up to you and then you can
change the you know the the color schemes we're not gonna get too crazy
with that right now but you can play around with them and change that you'll
see you know mine looks a little bit different here and obviously as a thank
you that kind of brings a little bit of attention there but that's the general
idea you want to capture emails above the fold on your landing page that will
give you the most bang for your buck and return on your investment because when
you capture somebody's email you can remark it back to them later you can
give them free stuff you can update them when you're having a sale you can you
know send them over to content if you maybe I just post a YouTube video and I
send out to all my subscribers that hey this YouTube video just went live I
think you can really help you out there's so many different ways that you
can mark it back to them when you capture their email correctly that you
definitely want to take into consideration and then obviously you can
switch the button around you know play around with that it's a very very simple
the more you play around the better you'll get but just for the sake of kind
of showing you guys I'm not gonna actually do this right now
but I do want to fix this text right here because it's annoying me so
I don't know why this is being very weird
my cute computer's having a panic attack or something usually you hit edit text
and it lets you it gives you all these options on centering you know changing
the thing it's kind of like when you double-click here it'll give you that
I'm not really sure why it's being weird right now
but for the sake of just demonstrating for you guys I'll just drag this over
and we'll Center it this way what let me do that undo and bout there now
typically when you Center it you'd see that line but for whatever reason it's
not letting me do that right now I've never I literally had that problem
before and you know ever using Wix I think that it's just maybe because I'm
running a bunch of software in the background my computer's being a little
bit slow I'm not really 100% sure but for the sake of you know just kind of
getting it done right now we're just gonna leave it like that so that's
basically the obviously I would change this to make it a little bit bigger it
would look something like this with a picture and a big title you know what
you're actually gonna receive and then something to entice them to click so
you'll see here for an example when I set up this landing page you know free
to option course when everyone else's eggs use AG a different take on how to
drop ship from Amazon in 2007 or 2018 sorry get the entire course for free
below and to tour today and learn step by step how to construct your very own
passive income stream so you're telling you're telling them basically what
they're gonna get why they should subscribe and what their incentive is
and then obviously they go ahead and do that and that's basically the the basics
of setting up a landing page now it's important to understand you know setting
up all the other pages like I talked about before you also want to maybe add
a little bit of content on it maybe a contact form maybe you want to add some
social media links but that's basically the simplicity of it so maybe if for all
those people out there that don't want to put the affiliate links in their
YouTube channel or their description set up a landing page like this put your
affiliate links in a blog article down here you know a little bit further and
you can send everybody and just post that one link in your description and
basically say go here to get it instead of all the other ones so just just like
ideas to keep in mind but like I said I wanted to demonstrate this a little bit
faster a little bit like kind of broad for you today just kind of give you the
idea if you'd like to see more website kind of you know design
tutorials like this I'm just kind of focusing on one thing let me know in the
