Prof. Waite's Twitter game is fire - Duration: 1:35.

Hi, I'm Matt Waite, I'm a professor of Journalism here in the

College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

My students received a questionnaire asking them questions about me.

Ohhh boy.

I get to read them for the first time on camera.

What could possibly go wrong?

[Off camera] So, we'll start off with this question.

First one.

Okay.

What is your favorite thing about Professor Waite?

Professor Waite comes to class looking like he just fended off a pack of lions with his

bare hands.

Waite's twitter game is absolute fire.

Professor Waite swears... a lot.

Waite is a big Cypress Hill fan!

Guilty.

Professor Waite seems genuinely surprised when his 18-22 year old students don't get

obscure 90's cult film references.

Someday, you're gonna be properly educated in the history of film.

How has Professor Waite affected your life?

Professor Waite made me into a better journalist.

Professor Waite made me fall in love with feature reporting.

I still haven't decided if I hate him or love him for doing that to me.

Let's be real, it's hate.

Professor Waite is the funniest professor I've had, but he cares about his students

learning how to actually go out into the real world and report.

Ehhh, it's true.

I... why would I be here if I didn't?

What is weird about Professor Waite?

Everything.

[music playing from Waite's computer]

This is great, but!

If you want to understand the history of music?

Funkadelic.

Right here.

F13TH The Game: Part 4 Jason at The Jarvis House - Duration: 15:37.

Welcome. Kicking it right off at the start of the match. This is Part 4 Jason at the Jarvis House.

I always look toward camera to show the bloody skin. There are three variations: Light, Medium and Heavy blood.

Medium is on the game disc (reinstall it from the disc if you have the digital version). The other two have to be unlocked.

The only Jason that doesn't have bloody variants is the Tom Savini Jason. He's exclusive to backers of the game.

Note that if you have to reinstall the game from the disc, you can still get all your DLC from Manage Game.

Got one right away!

About to see a nasty decapitation..

Damn it! The camera obscured the whole thing. This is why tight hallways are a nuisance.

The game is sadly littered with these little glitches. With more time and money it could've been more polished.

Fortunately the game is fun to play and very accurate to the movies, so fans like me still enjoy it.

By now you should know it: always place a trap by the cars, especially the engine or driver's seat.

Oddly enough, passengers can only get in when the driver has started the engine.

But Jason only has to stand in the way of the car to smash it. The driver can try to restart it though.

To actually repair or refuel the car, the counselor has to go through a little "mini game".

Counselors with high Repair stats will manage it quickly, but fail and you'll alert Jason.

Haha, there you go! One of the funniest kills ever. She died of being tossed a few feet.

Still, a great way to quickly gain 150 CP (Customization Points).

Hitting a counselor with a throwing knife can be easier with Sense activated, since they glow red.

They can fight back though - counselors can even lodge a flare right in Jason's head!

Should counselors stay together to survive, or split apart to cover more ground?

Offensively, staying together can help for a while. You can take turns fighting and stunning Jason.

He tends to always come out on top though, so be prepared with weapons and hypos.

Your chances of survival are much higher if you communicate and coordinate.

For instance, counselors can drop items to give to others, like hypo sprays, weapons or repair items.

The map and walkie talkie are crucial first items to find, to help with communication and coordination.

Movie trivia: Characters have hidden under beds in the movies, but never been killed under them.

Several have been killed while IN bed though, like Jeff and Sandra in Part 2.

And Trey, the douchebag from Freddy vs. Jason.

On the Jarvis House map you can go into Tommy Jarvis' room.

It's full of his homemade monster masks, a tribute to effects maker Tom Savini.

Every time you hear "ki ki ki, ma ma ma", you've gained a new ability. They unlock over time.

Counselors can also hear that, knowing that you get stronger each time..

What's on my wishlist for context kills?

Fusebox electrocution. Classic.

This is the Jarvis House. Fans will recognize the stairway, the kitchen and upstairs rooms.

It's a real house in the Hollywood hills, used in a lot of movies and shows, including Entourage.

It's totally bizarre to see characters in a different show inside the Jarvis House.

No luck there. This counselor is being unusually quiet.

Here's Tommy's room.

Sometimes counselors (especially players) will try to hide behind doors, so check often.

Others will find ways to hide in areas Jason can't reach, which is a game breaking glitch.

Seriously, fuck those players.

The Jarvis House has quite few items in it overall, which is rare for a main house in the game.

But don't forget to check the guest house across the road, and the basement. Sometimes a generator is nearby as well.

I've met the gentleman who played Jason in Part 4, Ted White. He was very approachable.

True to his movie look, you can see his bushy eyebrows through the holes in the mask.

When actress Judie Aronson was freezing in a raft while shooting her death scene..

..Ted White stepped in and demanded that she had to get out of there, or he'd walk from set.

A good thing too, because she had already contracted hypothermia, and was sick for weeks.

Counselors tend to hide in these "island" cabins, off the main part of the map. Always check them.

Part 4 Jason has high Destruction, meaning his huge Pig Splitter can chop down a door in three swings.

Jason isn't quite as menacing if he's hacking at the door for ten minutes straight, haha.

Counselors can run and jump out of windows, or walk and slowly climb out of them.

You get the gold "Last Resort" Badge for jumping out of 13 second story windows.

This counselor (Eric) is based on a real person, as well as Adam, Brendon and Kenny.

They backed the game with $10,000 each for that honor.

Now they are forever immortalized as Jason Voorhees' victims.

If you find a counselor in a tent, you can perform the "sleeping bag kill".

Kane Hodder claims it is his favourite that he ever performed in the movies.

A trap has sprung! Fingers crossed for a 2009 remake skin, especially if it comes equipped with a lot of traps.

She has a shotgun. Shotguns are effective stunners, but the best weapons to implement damage are machetes and axes.

Hurt Jason enough and his mask flies off, and you have a (small) chance at killing him.

I'm standing next to a toolbox, which can give you three different results for context kills:

A throat slash, repeated stabbings or a screwdriver to the temple.

It's one of the very few items that can yield different results.

Others include trees (high and low branches) and fences.

Always smash a repaired phone box. If they call the cops, they'll arrive after five minutes.

It's one of the easiest ways to win, you simply run to the edge of the map with the cops.

If Jason tries to approach them he'll be shot.

But if you're really lucky, you can catch a counselor in a trap near the cops.

That is extremely risky though, as they'll be right near the "finish line".

This is a radio tower, meaning the CB radio to call Tommy Jarvis is inside.

The way Tommy kills Jason with a machete swing is reminiscent of his death in Part 4.

You can even perform that exact kill yourself, it's called "The Jarvis".

Tommy always has a pocket knife, so be prepared for that when you grab him.

I could kill him with my throwing knives and Pig Splitter..but where's the fun in that?

Tommy is incredibly fast and has very high stamina, so chasing him can be a hassle.

Here's a brutal kill for you, called the "Slam and Gut".

It's part of the Part 4 Kill Pack DLC.

The only other Jason with a Kill Pack DLC is Part 7.

Hopefully more will follow though.

I'm using Stalk again, a little late perhaps. It's easier to sneak up on them with it.

That's Shelly Finklestein, the prankster from Friday the 13th: Part 3.

The actor, Larry Zerner, is now an attorney. But he returned to voice the character.

To learn as much as you could possibly want about the movies, check out..

..Crystal Lake Memories, which is the name of both a book and documentary.

They're both exhaustive tomes that fans should absolutely love.

Notice the blinking kill diamonds in the bottom right?

Getting your kill to work can take patience, so stay with it.

When a counselor dies, they drop all of their items. Others can pick them up.

That could also be a potential area to place a trap.

Counselors tend to mess with the cars often, or hide in cabins that have power.

Counselors that have very high Stealth stats and the right perks can be hard to find.

Sometimes bored or helpful players will tip you off to their location though.

We're in Offline mode though, so we are on our own for the moment.

Killing another generator, it may help flush them out.

There we go, main house all this time.

Alone and wounded!

This counselor wears clothes reminiscent of Chris in Part 3.

..and of course she has a pocket knife.

On Hard Mode, counselors will often use flares, traps, shotguns, machetes and pocket knives.

So be ready for quite the fight. They are also more likely to start up vehicles or call the cops.

This is "The Jarvis". The exact same way in which Tommy killed Jason in Part 4.

On the Blu-ray you can see uncensored takes of the scene, which was even more gruesome.

That is it for this game. For once I didn't kill Tommy last, which is a rarity.

Come back tomorrow to see the Roy skin and the new map, Pinehurst Youth Development Center!

Hope you've enjoyed the mayhem!

glor.io Level 27 game play part 2 - Duration: 8:44.

Hi guys

Remember part 1 of this video. This is a continuation of the first part of this video.

This is where more of the fun stuff happens.

I am playing this video in 4X speed, like how I did with part 1.

Remember from part 1 when I spoiled that the Russians will betray me? That those 2 teammates have the courage to fight me.

If you want to skip to the juicy part which is that part, you can feel free to skip to 5:00

I'm still leveling up, so I can have dominance over the server. Right now most of the people are at about level 8.

I went afk.

I payed a visit to the "trustworthy" people who will betray me.

To be honest I didn't even suspect them. I thought they would never have the guts to rebel.

I had to give food. He was a very nice person.

I know what you are thinking. I don't have enough gold.

That's why I am heading towards the ice knights to fight them.

I need gold for my wolf, so I can be better than average, and can flee if I have the need to.

Its easier to fight them at a higher level.

I don't generally play with bases. I think they come with burdens.

uh-oh I invited too many ice knights. Oh well.

Now is the time to get my sweet wolf.

I went afk, and now was the time for them to betray me.

The perfect opportunity to kill the other teammate of mine who I told to join who visited their base.

RIP super i. You were a loyal friend. I will avenge your death.

Wow they outnumber me in a ratio of about 3:1. Watch how I wreck them. This is the juicy part.

Grab your popcorn and watch this entertainment.

at some point they outnumbered me 12:1. Its time I make the ratios more even.

lol. They still want to mess with me.

Now peace finally. I destroyed the rebellion all alone. These are the moments a small youtuber feels strong and confident.

The dev should make gold baskets.

another advantage at this level: you can kill a bear without the use of mercenaries.

Its time I reveal my secrets.

helping him get gold.

I went afk again.

He doesn't know English well.

I needed to show him. He speaks Spanish. I like his effort. I need to learn more Spanish related to glor.io, and other IO games.

It will help me communicate with them better, and I can trust them possibly.

Anyways I had to leave soon.

This is The IO Gamer Dude. Please subscribe to my channel, and like this video.

Breaking Down the Best World in Rayman Legends | Game Maker's Toolkit - Duration: 7:49.

Hey. I'm Mark Brown, and this is Game Maker's Toolkit.

I've done a bunch of videos on my channel about platformer level design, but it has

almost always been through the lens of Nintendo games - which have a pretty reliable formula

at this point.

Each stage introduces a new gameplay mechanic - and that idea is explored through a series

of escalating challenges.

And then, the mechanic is thrown away - never to be seen again.

And that's certainly one way to do it.

But, it's not the only approach.

So, let's take a look at a platformer that does things quite differently:

Ubisoft's Rayman Legends.

So this game has plenty of unique ideas.

But the game's standout mechanics aren't ditched as soon as they're developed

- instead, they're often carried through an entire world's worth of levels.

In world two, Toad Story, practically every level is about updrafts that you can fly in.

And in world three, Fiesta de los Muertos, a bunch of the levels are about digging through

big chunks of cake.

But if you ask me, the best example is from world four: 20,000 Lums Under the Sea.

This world is a sneaky spy thriller, with James Bond style music, and stealthy gameplay

that's maybe closer to Splinter Cell than Rayman.

The main mechanic for this world is the sentry, which is a sort of mechanised security system

that casts a green light - or red, if Rayman gets too close.

And if Rayman stays in the red light for too long, he'll be zapped.

So it's all about sneaking past the sentry at the right moment.

There are ones that flicker on and off.

And ones that move, so you need to hide behind bits of the level that cut off the sentry's

light.

They appear in almost every stage in this world, but each level has a unique twist on

the idea.

They're introduced in level one, The Mysterious Inflatable Island, where you avoid the lights

by swimming past them.

Then in stage two, The Deadly Lights, we use this tiny green guy called Murphy to press

buttons and pop up barriers to obstruct the sentry's lights.

(This makes more sense if you're playing on a console like the Wii U where you can

physically poke, grab and move stuff with the touchscreen.

It's a bit janky on the other consoles where you just press a button.)

Anyway.

Stage three, The Mansion of the Deep, is different again.

The level starts with no sentries, but then you hit a power button and must go back through

the same rooms but now thinking about stealth.

Level four, Infiltration Station, brings back Murphy, but now you have full control over

the level as you move bits of the stage to create cover, or even move the sentries themselves.

And then level five, Elevator Ambush, the sentries are still present but the stealth

gameplay takes a bit of a backseat to a more action-packed fist fight against these new

frogmen enemies.

Because, obviously, there's more to this world than just one mechanic.

Level one also introduces us to spiky navel mines, and frogmen who fire electrical blasts.

Level three adds laser tripwires, giant crushing pipes, and two extra underwater creatures:

jellyfish and these freaky worm things.

And level five adds another enemy type.

Plus weird shark guys who throw objects across the room.

And missiles, which were briefly seen in the boss fight from Toad Story.

What's clever is that most of these mechanics are introduced on their own, but then go on

to appear in tandem with the sentries.

Enemies pop up in areas guarded by the sentries.

The nightmare worms create fast-moving, and oddly-shaped cover.

And so on.

And then, after five stages of build up, all of these ideas come together in the sixth

stage, There's Always a Bigger Fish, which is a manic, fast-paced chase sequence that

uses almost every mechanic we've seen so far.

There are navel mines, sentries, missiles, frogmen, shark dudes, and

laser tripwires.

And yet, it's totally doable - simply because, the game has spent a lot of time carefully

building up this vocabulary of different mechanics.

The player has learned what these things look like, what they do, and how to deal with them

- even at great speed.

Because, if you don't do the necessary prep work, the player won't have the skills to

deal with these mechanics when put under pressure.

And as an example of this happening, you need look no further than Rayman Legends itself.

The game's got these brilliant musical stages at the end of each world, but, for whatever

reason, they often have slightly different mechanics to the rest of the levels - mechanics

which haven't always been fully established.

So in Mariachi Madness, you'll be running through the level at breakneck speed and suddenly

see a creature that you've never seen before and need to figure out what that is and what

you need to do in a split second and, yeah, I didn't react quickly enough.

And that didn't feel good.

So introducing mechanics early isn't just responsible level design - but it also gives

players an opportunity feel a sense of flow, and mastery - that isn't halted by trial

and error deaths.

That stage in 20,000 Lums feels amazing because you're going really fast and nailing all

of these challenges - but that's only possible because you're familiar with everything

the level has to throw at you.

That level is then followed by a boss fight, and then a swim back to the surface for the musical

number - taking you full circle, to the island you started on in level one.

Now. Not every world is like this in Rayman Legends.

Some worlds are linked by a theme, like world one's castle, rather than a game mechanic.

And there are plenty of one-off ideas, like a level about spreading guacamole, and a twisting

labyrinth stage, that are thrown away at the end of the level - just like a Mario mechanic.

But 20,000 Lums demonstrates some real benefits to keeping a mechanic around for longer than

just one level.

It means that idea can be explored exhaustively.

The sentries are seen in endless variations, and they slowly ramp up in difficulty.

They start to move more quickly.

The cover gets smaller.

They appear in pairs, or mix with other mechanics.

And instead of just waiting for an opportunity to proceed, you have to move in lockstep with

the cover to stay hidden.

You'll see even more variants in the world's secret rooms.

And if you want to go for bonus pick-ups like coins and kidnapped Teensies, you'll have

to put yourself at risk and deal with even more challenging sentries.

Keeping a mechanic around also means it can appear in much more difficult scenarios - and

the player will be able to deal with it - in masterful fashion.

In Mario, you've got to wait until the end-game bonus stages to ever face a mechanic in a

more tricky set-up.

A mechanic can also be a thread to create a wider narrative progression for the world.

The sentries are prominent at the start of 20,000 Lums Under the Sea, where Rayman is

using stealth to get around - but they disappear towards the end as - in classic spy movie

fashion - all hell breaks lose for the action-packed finale.

And finally.

And this one might be handy for any indie developers watching.

It's also surely a tad more economical to keep an idea around for more than one level

- than developing 100 different game mechanics.

We can't all be Nintendo, can we?

Hey, thanks for watching.

I also want to say thanks to Rayman level designer Chris McEntee who chatted to me about

the creation of this world.

I asked him whether the mechanic informed the theme, or if the theme lead to the mechanic

- and he told me that it was kind of a mix of the two.

The gameplay team was prototyping the sentry and the art team did some Jules Verne style

underwater artwork - and these came together for a world about sneaking through an underwater base.

Apparently there was a real back and forth of art and gameplay inspiring each other throughout

the creation of Rayman Legends.

Chris is now working on the Ori and the Blind Forest sequel, meaning I'm even more excited

about that game.
