Kids are so smart sometimes huh? They'll beat you to it.
There was a Sunday school teacher who was talking to the Sunday School and
said, "So if I pick up all my clothes do all of my homework and do
everything will I go to Heaven?" And the kids said, "No!" "Well what if I feed the
dog and I also, you know, do the yard and I do these things and the kids said "No!" And she said
"well then what do I have to do to get to heaven?" little five year old from the back
said, "You have to die first!" I want to uh, go through... We've been going through the
Gospel project right, and all year we've been basically the Gospel project really
takes you through where Jesus is to provide the entire Bible every word
through the Old Testament through the New Testament and we're right now we're
in the book of Acts but I wanted to backtrack a little because something had
occurred to me while I was listening you know we see all these things that Paul
is doing they'd see all these things that in all these miracles that have
been all these things and we know that the Holy Spirit came down and one
question that I had was you know what is Jesus doing right now right and here in
the Bible in Luke we get a little hint of of what he's doing it says in the men
that held Jesus mocked him and smote him and when they had blindfolded him they
struck him on the face and asked him saying prophesy let's see who smoked
thee how many of you and many other thick blasphemous things they spoke
against him and as soon as it was day the elders of the people a chief priests
and the scribes came together and led him into their council saying art thou
the Christ tell us and he said unto them if I tell you you won't believe me if I
also ask you you won't tell me nor will you let me go he says something Courtney
says hereafter shall the Son of Man sit on the right hand of the power of God
and then he died on the cross and he was buried and on the third day he rose
again and then the Bible says in acts 1:9 and when he had spoken these things
to the disciples while they beheld him he was taken up and a cloud received him
out of their sight two verses later you know these angels come down and they
said why do you stand here looking into the sky the same Jesus who has been
taken from you into heaven will come back in the same way that you see him
going to heaven the same way how in the cloud and we know this because in real
at revelation 1:7 it says behold he comes with clouds and every eye shall
see him and then we always wait for the hope of the rapture writes that we can
all be taken with him and we known first Thessalonians 4:17 then we which are
alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the with him them
in the clouds to meet the Lord in their so here's Jesus Christ coming in the
clouds and then we go up and we meet them in the cloud but that's interesting
right but so where's Jesus right now there was a burglar who broke into a me
and then he heard in like the sound of her and decided he said he looked he
thought it was Syrian things you know he turned on the light and he saw that
there was a parrot during said hey are you the one saying all this stuff and he
said yes so what's your name Aaron Moses well who would name their parent Moses
he said the same people that were named their dog Jesus
wonderful part is that Jesus is on the right hand of God and he's watching this
in Luke 22 69 said here after the Son of man shall sit on the right hand of the
power of God and Stephen when he was being killed and stoned to death he
looked up with the Holy Ghost and looked up steadfastly to heaven and saw the
glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God and said behold I seen
the heavens opened and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God the
next five thirty once has exalted him Jesus to his own right hand as Prince
and Savior in Colossians it even says therefore if you have been raised up
with Christ keep seeking the things above where
Christ is seated at the right hand of God I kept searching and searching well
he seems like 58 verses about Jesus being at the right hand to God it's all
through the Psalms it's all through the whole New Testament it's everywhere so I
think might be important so we know where Jesus is but what is he doing
right now one of the things I want to do in the next couple of weeks is look at
six things that Jesus is actually doing right now right now what he's doing and
I'm gonna take you through him real quick he's ruling in power he's ringing
his high priest he's advocating for our cities
consistently and I'll prove that to you later
he prays for us consistently all the time he's the head of the church he
calls people and he draws them and he gives them ministry and he's also
preparing a place for us so the first one says he's ruling in power it's is
the right hand of the power of God and what is right hand me in English we have
a saying that says you know it's my right hand man right and right hand man
in the dictionary says someone who works very closely with another person at a
similar level helping with their work in the Bible that means
strength that means that the right hand is strength like the right hand always
means strength in the Bible okay so he's at the right hand in power in Psalms 26
it says now I know that the Lord saves his anointed he will answer him from his
holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand the Nexxus says that thy
right hand Lord has become a glorious in power it talks about Jesus being in
Dominion in power so we know that he's at the right hand of God and that he's
in power right okay so now I'm going to talk about this high priest thing and
it's gonna take us the rest of the service it's super important and I was
looking up and I was reading up on this and in the Bible where it discusses what
I'm about to try to teach you today it literally says that's where the verse
comes from that says you know we want to tell you these things but you're like
babes and you only want the milk but we would rather be be want to give you the
meat of the word and so I'm gonna try to ask you to listen try to keep up with me
we'll see if I can't but I'll mess it up let's see if I can there's no way I can
say it as good as Paul but let's find out Jesus is the high priest okay
what does that any mean there in the Bible Hebrews 3:1 wherefore holy
brethren partakers of the heavenly calling consider the Apostle and high
priest of our profession Jesus Christ so he's our apostle and he's our high
priest of our profession Jesus Christ in Hebrews 4:14 it says therefore since we
have a great high priest who ascended into heaven Jesus the Son of God that's
all firmly to the faith we profess we do not have a high priest who is unable to
empathize with our weaknesses but we have one who's been tempted in every way
just as we are yet he did not sing that's therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace
in our time of need what does it even mean so back in the UH the Jewish times
there was a temple that's the entire temple okay if you notice there's this
whole big one that goes around and that's the outer court that's where the
people could gather you could go in there you could gather there that's
basically a lot of the times when Jesus was preaching and there was marketplaces
that's where they were in the outer court area then you notice there's
another square little rect I mean rectangle there and that's the inner
court only the priests could all go in there they had to do their priestly
duties they had go in there and do you know their their little offerings they
took care of the plays they did all their little priestly duties but that
little building there it's called the Holy of Holies and only the high priest
could go into the Holy of Holies and every year he would do a blood sacrifice
to atone for the sins of the people but only him and he had to prepare the
entire way and he had to be kind of blameless and try to go in because if he
set foot in there and he wasn't the high priest he died so there was the people
in the court an outer court priests in the inner court and then the high priest
went into the Holy of Holies becomes like a blood offering okay in Hebrews
6:19 220 it says we have this hope as an anchor for the Soul firm unsecure it
enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain which is that holy holy holy of
holies right the curtain where our forerunner Jesus has entered on our
behalf he has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek
has anybody heard of Melchizedek before ever yeah some he only comes out one
time in the Bible and then he's talked about twice two other times in the Bible
and the one time he comes out is this I'm gonna tell you the whole story of
Melchizedek this is all you ever know of him it's right here in Genesis 14
Abraham had just lot had been taken away and Abraham gathered his whole little
army together and he went in he slaughtered everybody
took plot back he came back and then Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth
bread and wine and he was the priest of the Most High God and He blessed him and
said blessed be Abram of the Most High God possessor of heaven and earth and
blessed be the Most High God which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand
and he being Abram gave him a tithes of all so here's this guy just comes out of
nowhere Melchisedec king of Salem and he blesses
him and Abram gives him a tenth of everything he just took in that battle
it's where the first tie that were happened is to Melchizedek okay now
that's all we get from him and we could go to like scholars and other people to
Transat well who's Melchizedek what do you think what do you think but actually
we could just go to Hebrews because the writer of Hebrews told us exactly who
was in Hebrews 7 1 it says this smoke is a tech was king of Salem and priests of
God Most High he met Abram returning from the defeat of the Kings and blessed
him and Abram gave him a tenth of everything
first the named Melchizedek means what king of righteousness and then also
Salem means king of peace so here's a guy that's called king of righteousness
king of peace and he's bringing bread and wine pretty interesting and then it
goes on the next verse says he's without father or mother without genealogy
without beginning of days or end of life but made like unto the Son of God he
remains priest forever well kissa dead who is this guy he's
like has no beginning no end no lineage then he's priest forever it kind of
reminds me of when Abraham was out and this is the time when these three men
came to him and he ate with them and they told him Sarah's gonna have a baby
and Sarah laughs and she laughed I didn't laugh yahuwah and
it and what we learned is that that was the lord this was a representation of
the lord he's three men right we also see Jesus in the Old Testament in
Shadrach Meshach and Abednego was the fourth man in the fire right so there's
some reasons why we could say that Melchizedek was one of these sightings
of Jesus it's interesting because he's called the priest of the Most High God
long before the law was ever given and there were every not even any priests
there was like the Levitical priests of the time of Moses long before that
here's somebody just comes out of nowhere he's the priest of the Most High
God right he's called the priest forever just Jesus Jesus is the priest forever
it's called the king of Salem which is the king of peace and he's called the
king of righteousness and he has no genealogy he's an eternal one and then
the lesser which is Abraham is blessed by the better and Hebrews 7 7 says and
without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better the less is
Abraham and the better is Melchizedek Soumik is an egg's way better than
Abraham where we all come from these are the father of our faith who's better
than Abraham and Jesus has made a priest after the order of Melchizedek I think
we know that Jesus isn't lesser than Melchizedek so why would he be in the
order of some guy some random guy I was all like he's under that order I don't
think it means that at all I think that it means that he was Melchizedek the
order was established by him and then God established the new covenant upon
this order if you look in Hebrews it's a really hard read hebrews you just keep
going and going and going he just talks and talks and talks kind of reminds me
of my niece she just says a lot of things and it speaks things like she's
speaking in parenthesis in parenthesis parenthesis you're like a pig and
and it's a really hard read and he basically talks about the fact that this
is where the New Testament comes from this new order in the order of
melchizedek the Old Testament is the law the New Testament is Jesus has high
priests in the order of Melchizedek right we can even look in sons where the
Lord had sworn and will not change his mind
you are priest forever in the order of Melchizedek this is in Psalms 110 for
what does that even mean well Melchizedek we know means king of
righteousness so then Jesus is in the order as a king of righteousness so your
high priest forever was the king of righteousness in that order is everybody
with me still do you tell another joke oh that's the Bugs Bunny okay so in
Hebrews 8 and what's the point of all this and what is this all of you mean
it's even even Paul talks like this now the main point of what we're saying is
this I don't know if you remember but I was started in like Hebrews chapter 3
and this is this is how long paul discussed this from chapter 3 all the
way to 8 and now it's like okay here's the main point of what I'm saying he
said we do have such a priest who said at the right hand of the throne of
Majesty in heaven so Jesus ascended into the holy of holies which is imagining a
heaven and who serves in the sanctuary the true tabernacle set out by the Lord
not by a mere human being so heaven is the new Holy of Holies and Jesus Christ
is our new high priest that went to heaven first he was the only one that
could get in the only one that got makes sense yeah
so Hebrews 10:19 says therefore brothers and sisters since we have this confident
confidence of what confidence that Jesus Christ is there he's our high priest
what a priest do back in the Old Testament
they prayed for the people they advocated
they bless them they're with me they were there they were supposed to
serve the people and therefore whether the thing we have this confidence that
Jesus is the most holy place by the blood of Jesus re since we have this
confidence that that to enter the most holy place which is for us to enter into
heaven by the blood of Jesus since we have a great priest over the house of
God let us draw near to God with a sincere heart so since we have this
confidence and Jesus is there what are some things that we can apply to
ourselves right it used to be especially since I grew up
like in the Catholic Church well I had to could only go to the priest I could
only go tell my sins to them I had to pray to to some Saints or I had to pray
to Mary I had prayed all these things and I couldn't come just boldly to God
before and so but now what it's saying is is that here's Jesus he's the high
priest of all King the king the Lord of lords the high great high priest because
of that we can have confidence that we can just go straight to him so let us
draw near to God with a sincere heart so the first thing that we can do is draw
near to God second thing is it says and with the full assurance that faith
brings having our heart sprinkles to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and
having our bodies washed with pure water since we can actually come with full
assurance that he's not going to condemn us our sins are completely forgiven so
we can get to him right and then it goes on and say let us hold unswervingly
to the hope we profess for he who promised is faithful so we can hold on
to our hope in what hope I mean basically the real hope that we
have to have is that when we die we're going somewhere and hopefully that's
heaven right and that's the hope that we have in Jesus Christ so we can hold on
to that hope because he's there and he did all the work for us so we can hold
on to that hope that was promised to us and then it says this and let us
consider how we may spur one towards love and good deeds so we can
come boldly and we can have this kind of faith to go through we can hold on to
that faith we hold on the hope that we're gonna make it to heaven because
he's there and also then because of that we can encourage one another
let's do good things together let's love one another it's love and good deeds and
then the last thing I think it's interesting that it says and not giving
up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one
another and all the more as you see the Day approaching this is not meeting
together in church you're gathering together
don't ever stop meeting together as the habit of some of you I could be talking
about you guys some of you are doing the habit of some of us are doing never stop
meeting together and all a day and all the more as you see the Day approaching
and that day is the capital letters it's the day when Jesus Christ comes in the
clouds and picks us up with him so there are just certain things that we need to
be doing and we know right which today brings us to where talked about in
Hebrews 4:14 therefore since we have a great high priest who has ascended into
heaven Jesus the Son of God let us hold firmly to the faith we possess it is
therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find
grace in our time of need okay that was like a lot to give right I mean it's
tough you got to get a really think through it thinking it's not that
exciting maybe but it should be it should be exciting because without that
and without Jesus being our high priest we can't get into heaven we can't come
boldly nobody's hearing our prayers nobody's listening to us nobody's
advocating to the Father for us with all the sins that were doing nobody's doing
any of that and that's one of the major things that he's doing he has power the
two we King went over as today's ruling empowered right from the beginning of
time he created all the heavens in the earth
he was there and he still rules in power today and he's our high priest
advocating for us the entire time the next time I want to get into all the
other ones so let's pray Heavenly Father Lord thank you Father we thank you for
this beautiful message that you've given us Lord it's kind of a lot to take in
but we know that you gave it to us for us to understand and we thank you for
putting it in your word so that we could understand it we give you praising glory
and we bowed down at your beautiful majestic power Lord your sovereign power
the Bible said we should fear with fear and trembling we worship you lord
if father we thank you because you sent your son to die for us and take our
place to become high priest to advocate first and to intercede on our behalf to
always be on our side to call us and draws near lord I ask that you give us
that boldness to come to you whenever we are in need unto your throne of grace
and Jesus name we pray amen
