If I'm the one who is going to buy and use the smartphone at a low budget, I will buy a used Android phone.
To get a more up to date version of Android, I will root it then flash a custom ROM.
But what if your used market sucks and want to buy new for the peace of mind?
Also how many people actually know what "Root" or "Custom ROM" even is?
What can 35 US dollars buy you?
This is the cheapest you can get that is not from some unknown Chinese brand: The myPhone myA11.
For $35 (USD) unlocked you get an Android phone from a brand you can trust (or at least we
Filipinos trust) that runs the latest Android Oreo Go software--and that's about it.
I mean they do say "You get what you pay for" and I say "Not everyone can pay more."
So let's see what we can get for this rock bottom of a price point.
> The Shopping
The Filipino culture where an electronic device is tested first before leaving the store is
a very good practice.
The first boxed unit I got crashed twice and had to be swapped for another unit.
So make sure to have the phone tested in-store first.
Also note that the included earphones sounds like shit.
> The Aesthetics and Ergonomics
The phone has a very simple aesthetic and a very simple construction expected for the price.
Plastic front, plastic sides, and glossy plastic back with the myPhone distinct touch of having
the Philippine map on the map.
Standard Android capacitive buttons below the screen, 3.5mm headphone jack,
microUSB port that supports USB On-The-Go, volume rocker and power button on the right,
and on the back is the 5 megapixel fixed focus camera and LED flash.
It is a straightforward, get the job done design.
Also did I mention how small this phone is?
Well I almost forgot because all my other phones are also in the 4 inch screen size.
If you use almost any recent smartphone, this thing will be tiny in comparison--almost the
same size as an iPhone 5.
The back cover is removable but you may have to take your nails along the sides to do so.
It has a removable battery, a microSD slot, and 2 SIM slots with SIM 1 being a microSIM
while SIM 2 is a nanoSIM.
Fortunately here in the Philippines you can have the SIM card replaced with a triple cut
SIM and still keep your original number at no extra cost.
> The Unexpected
Now if you are even a bit techy and you laugh at the idea of a phone running Android Oreo
with 512 MB of RAM, I don't blame you.
But if you expect the phone to just stutter, freeze, or crash all the time, I'm
surprised that it's not the case.
UI navigation is smooth but it does have hiccups, apps like Phone, SMS, and Contacts just work,
and camera launches and takes a shot decently fast.
Fairly heavy music apps like Spotify works*, Messenger Lite and Viber work well and I guess
other internet-based messaging apps should work perfectly.
For basic communication this phone works perfectly.
It's not lighting fast, but they are perfectly usable--and that's what matters.
I would also applaud myPhone for not messing with the UI and keeping it stock Android.
I did have to disable some of your bloatware...but at least there's just two.
> The Techy Stuff
I can't really complain about specs for a phone at this price point.
A two year old MT6580M CPU (with its core architecture being even older), half the RAM
of my 6 year old Galaxy S II [512 MB], and storage so small I need to discuss later [4 GB].
For wireless it has the basic 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radio, and 3G (HSPA+) for mobile data.
No 4G LTE as expected.
Paired with the low end hardware specs is the lightweight Android Oreo Go operating
system and its accompanying lightweight Go apps.
More about Android Go over here [Android Authority video]
> The Odd
So not all apps works as smooth as butter.
The full Twitter app works but a bit laggy, but ironically Twitter Lite is worst.
The full YouTube app is laggy and uses more space but at least it's fully featured compared
[compared] to the bare bones YouTube Go app.
Chrome doesn't offer tab previews and runs as light as possible.
Other tabs don't even run or is even loaded in the background like on a more powerful
phone which is--
> The Expected
The main user interface hardware of a smartphone today is it's color touch display.
This phone, as expected, uses a cheap TN LCD display [480x800] with a plastic touch surface
instead of glass.
You have to look at it straight on to get a decent enough image and the included
screen protector is mandatory.
But then again, very low cost.
I accept that.
The touchscreen does has a noticeable amount of lag that is tolerable but could end up
being annoying.
Speed: It is not a fast phone and it is borderline underpowered.
It's not unusable, but tolerable as long as you don't push it too hard.
Don't even think about playing heavy games on this thing.
The bottom firing loudspeaker [comparison here]...distorts at max volume.
I do suggest to myPhone for any future model to just have one speaker.
Have the earpiece speaker do double duty and equip it with a bigger and better speaker.
512 MB of RAM.
What does that mean?
No true multitasking.
Everytime you switch between two apps, the app you go to reloads and the app you left
is unloaded from RAM.
Single taking only.
Now for the camera.
Oh boy.
There is a camera and it has a flash.
The phone's cheap TN display actually make the photos look worse but even on my computer's
screen it takes lomography level shots.
Soft, lacking contrast, and outlined with color fringing.
Low light makes it even softer and noisier.
For video it does 720p...at 20 fps with potato audio.
It still gets distinguishable images in the end.
Almost everything that is negative on this smartphone is just expected at this price point.
All that matters is that it all works.
> The Ugly Compromises
4 GB of internal storage.
It.
Is.
Very.
Small.
Out of the box Android and the preinstalled apps use [more than] half of that.
In the end you'll have to spend extra on a genuine 8GB microSD slot to fit all of your
pictures, videos, and music.
Don't bother formatting the card as 'Internal Storage" because it was more trouble than
it's worth.
More on my extended technical review.
You can make Android run and run well on 512 MB of RAM...sort off.
When I use Spotify, for example, to play music, the phone is clearly struggling to, let's
say browse stuff through Twitter or Chrome at the same time.
Apps also start to load so much slower once you try to multitask.
You can only do one thing at a time...and it is what it is.
> The Just Bad
The battery is small at 1400 mAh, but then it doesn't have to drive a high end processor
or an HD display or a heavy Android skin in the first place.
It's running Oreo in Go form, remember?
Standby time is abysmal.
With the phone fully charged, when I leave it alone on Wi-Fi 7 hours later it lost around
8% of battery.
Much more battery optimization is severely needed.
Remember that the people who will buy a phone like this will not be the ones who would own
a power bank.
This time, I expect better.
The camera lens cover is plastic and as I use this phone it started to easily get scratched.
A plastic protector is needed to be pre-installed and I had to improvise with scotch tape.
> Conclusion
This smartphone is not a good value smartphone even for a first time Android user.
If you can pay $20 (Php 1000) more, you are better off buying a more powerful Android
Go smartphone that has 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, and a bigger and better display.
But not everyone can pay more.
It's that simple.
For what Google sees as the "Next billion," for a lot of them this could be all the phone
they can get...if at all.
But even with all the compromises, it does what it is supposed to do good:
A communication device.
It is a full fledged Android device.
Today, for this amount of money, I'm actually more surprised on the things it is able to
do, instead of what it can't.
This is EJ.
Thanks for watching.

Arsenal would be crazy to let Lacazette go - Duration: 2:31.
According to Le 10 Sport, Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is considering his future with the club as the summer transfer window approaches its closure
What's the story?. The Frenchman was a then club-record acquisition for the Gunners one year ago, when he joined from Lyon for a fee of around £46 million
After a bright start to life in the Premier League though, the 27-year-old's form wavered and he succumbed to injury
In January, Arsenal smashed their transfer record once again to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium
.Lacazette and the Gabonese striker are now locked in a battle for the right to lead the line under Unai Emery, and so far at least, having started the first three games of the new season, Aubameyang is winning
It may therefore be of little surprise that Lacazette, whose lack of involvement towards the end of last season potentially cost him a place in France's World Cup winning squad, is considering his options
Arsenal, though, would be mad to let him leave. Backing Laca.Whilst Lacazette's maiden campaign in North London wasn't the glorious term he'd have hoped for, his quality was evident, and so far this season he has looked very good when he's come on
There is certainly potential for a partnership between him and Aubameyang, rather than it remaining a one or the other situation
Their respective attributes are complimentary. Whilst Aubameyang's pace and movement makes him particularly effective when running in behind and into the channels, Lacazette's hold up and combination play when dropping deep is just as useful
Both are, of course, lethal finishers too.Arsenal can't afford to call time on Lacazette's career with them already, and Emery must convince the striker to stay and find a way to get him playing regularly

Target Shooting with the Spinster Target-Go-Round - Duration: 2:39.
3Rivers Archery. Your longbow and recurve experts.
Hi, I'm Johnathan Karch with 3Rivers Archery.
Today I'm going to be demonstrating the
Spinster motorized target-go-round.
Now this is a incredibly fun device to
really spruce up your shooting.
It's motorized engine that allows you to
rotate targets around.
Comes with a remote control. Runs on a nine volt battery.
Very adjustable for speed.
And we've got, as you see, some soda bottles
here of different size hanging.
You can speed it up slow it down.
Great especially for the instinctive shooter.
Really get your hand-eye coordination
working and just just like I said just a
lot of fun. Which is all what
shooting a bow is about.
So let's a, let's back up and see if
we can blow up some soda pops.
Alright folks we're ready to shoot. Little thing
to point out we've got a good backstop.
1. We're strapped to a target
Behind that's an old sand pit. A little grown
over as you can see, but we've got a good
good backing for the shooting.
Safety first.
So get her going.
I'm actually gonna slow it down.
See what we can do here.
Too early.
I had that one.
There we go.
I know I hit it.
There we go!
A lot of fun there. We had a great time
shooting the... the Spinster there didn't we?
That's fun. That really spruces up an old practice session.
Indoors, outdoors, whatever you'd like to do it.
Just make sure you're sure of your your backdrop,
and shooting, and you have the space for it.
I'm Johnathan Karch with 3Rivers Archery.
If you liked the video, please give it a
thumbs up. If you have any questions,
please comment below. And if you really enjoyed it
share it with your friends and family.
We appreciate it.
Have a good day.

Why You Don't Want To Go Viral - Duration: 6:18.
I don't know if you can see how much it's raining on camera, but...
...it's raining a lot.
In 1988, Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond wrote "The Manual",
or "How To Have A Number One The Easy Way".
They'd had a novelty pop song hit the top of the charts earlier that year, and the Manual --
I've had to plastic-wrap my copy, it's a bit rainy --
was a tongue-in-cheek guide to success in the music industry:
how to achieve a number one single with no money and no musical talent.
Almost all of it is out of date now, but there's one section, right at the start,
that is as relevant today as the day it was written,
and it's trying to talk the reader out of what they think they want. And it says:
"The majority of Number Ones are achieved early on in the artist's public career
"and before they have been able to establish reputations and build a solid fan base.
"Most artists are never able to recover from having one
"and it becomes the millstone around their necks to which all subsequent releases are compared.
"Either the artist will be destroyed in their attempt
"to prove to the world that there are other facets to their creativity
"or they succumb willingly and spend the rest of their lives
"as a travelling freak show."
A number one song does not make a career.
In fact, it can kill a career:
if all you're known for is doing one thing,
all the world will want to see is that one thing.
A single popular video does not make you a YouTube star,
it makes you the person who stands up and repeats that catchphrase
over and over again until everyone's tired of it.
There are people out there who think,
just one big hit, that's all they need,
that's the path to stardom and being set for life.
They were wrong thirty years ago, and they're wrong now.
If you're a one-hit wonder,
then it's not you that's popular; it's that one hit.
What you need is a steady build, a back catalogue,
enough time to learn the skills that you need to survive under the spotlight,
to have long-term, sustainable success.
If you've been tasked by your boss to Make Something Popular,
or if you've had that one hit and now you need the second,
that is a terrible environment to be creative in.
If you sit round, with a committee, and you ask
"What's funny? What's good? What's popular? What can we make?
"What will people be interested in?",
then you're already on the wrong track.
But you know that idea you had when you were in the shower, or in the pub with friends,
or just letting your mind wander on a rainy beach today?
That idea might be good.
Your brain isn't indexed so you can say "think of something popular".
Your brain thrives on connections.
And it is way more difficult to make those connections when your job depends on it.
For me, it took me more than a decade of throwing stuff at the internet,
of steadily building up a small following and learning my trade before I found
the Things You Might Not Know format, an idea that really worked,
an idea that got me a large audience and
a chance to actually turn this into something that could support me.
By sheer luck, that happened at the point where I'd been working somewhere long enough
to build up some savings,
so I wouldn't be completely bankrupt if this new, shiny YouTube idea didn't work out long-term.
There's a reason that a lot of people who make stuff for online platforms are either
kids supported by their parents,
or students with a lot of time on their hands,
or folks who have the means to support themselves.
And even if you are one of the lucky ones,
if your project starts bringing in some money,
if you're lucky enough to have the budget to be able to book a last-minute sleeper train ticket
and travel to a remote, rain-swept Scottish island because it makes a better background for your video,
it could still end at any time.
You could get ill, or your audience could get bored.
Actually, your audience, they will get bored at some point.
There are some folks out there, mostly still teenagers,
with millions of people already following them and money rolling in,
and they think this is going to last forever.
But every band's second album is difficult,
and every TV show starts to lose ratings over time as newer things come along.
The internet works the same way.
The new stuff doesn't necessarily have to be better: it just has to be exciting.
People like to have both familiarity and novelty, but there's got to be both.
Too much familiarity is boring. Too much novelty is scary.
If you don't strike a balance, if you can't change with the times,
someone else will be ready and willing to take your audience.
For almost every creator making stuff for the internet,
the work they do is a passion project.
So if you're starting out, you should know:
it isn't going to support you for the first few years,
perhaps the first few decades, perhaps ever.
And if you are one of the lucky ones, if you've made it,
it very likely won't support you for life.
I mean, if this is a passion project, you probably won't care about that.
And as long as you know that, as long as you plan for it, that's fine.
But you'll have seen all the creators, in every genre on YouTube, talking about burnout.
Your dream job can still be a nightmare if you don't have a backup plan.
In 1994, six years after they wrote the Manual,
Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond pulled all their music from sale.
They went to their bank,
and they withdrew most of the money they had left over from sales and royalties,
both from the novelty number one single,
and from all the other hits they'd had since then.
They had one million pounds in cash.
They travelled to this island, Jura, in Scotland,
they went to an abandoned boathouse a couple of miles down the coast,
they burned all of that million pounds cash as art.
Now, I'm not about to do anything like that.
I wouldn't recommend doing anything like that.
I don't think they would these days, either.
But I am well aware that nothing lasts forever,
If all you're trying to do is repeat your one success,
or if all you're doing is trying the same thing over and over and over and over again
for years and you're getting nothing back,
then you might as well just be throwing your money in a fire.
So these days, I hope that my ideas work, and I try to accept when they don't.
And I try out new things.
And sure, my baseline is different to when I was starting out,
the same way it's different to that of a massive corporation
who might spend millions on one advert,
but the principles are the same.
I keep following all those rules I've learned:
I make as many things as possible, and I try to connect with people.
If you're starting out, success might take a week.
It might take a month. It might take a century.
But every idea you put out there is another roll of the dice,
and you can learn from however those dice fall.
That's how you get popular on the internet.
That's good enough. Augh! How is there--
How is there rain going down the back of my neck?
All right, I've got to go catch a ferry.
Pack away, catch a ferry.

What CS:GO's cheating problem means for the game, and how the community has tried to fix it - Duration: 9:01.
CS:GO is not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination. It has its issues from tick rate,
(Stream)
To smurfing
(Stream)
To toxicity.
(Stream)
But none of these issues stack up to Counter-Strike's biggest problem.
Cheating.
(Stream)
So we all know that cheating sucks,
and what's even worse is that it often feels like Valve isn't actually doing anything about it.
CS:GO's lack of an intrusive anti-cheat system has left a lot of people without any faith
in the existing VAC system.
See, CS:GO is a really attractive game to cheat in, partly because of its snappy combat.
Here's a Valve at a GDC talk in 2018
"The design is this very satisfying combat experience where almost any weapon in the game can be a
one-shot kill
But that does also sort of fail to disincentivize cheating."
The game is also relatively cheap and easy to run compared to games like Call of Duty or Battlefield.
It's also extremely easy to start up a new account once one of your old ones gets banned.
So there are a lot of cheaters.
According to SteamDB, thousands of people get VAC banned every single day,
and when a wave hits,
60 thousand people can get hit by the ban hammer all at once.
It's at the point where real great plays from honest players are being called out
as an example of a cheater who hasn't been caught yet.
"It's the same pattern. He locks on the enemy that starts doing his weird f*cking shape.
This one's right on crisp clean lock boys."
So, what does Valve do to combat cheating. The current system works on two fronts.
The first is VAC, which looks for identified and installed cheating programs, and also checks the game files
to make sure nothing's been tampered with.
The other front is Overwatch.
Overwatch lets a selected group watch a reported players matches to determine if they're cheating or not.
If enough people vote that the player is a hacker they get hit by the banhammer
But that existing system is exactly why cheating has flourished in CS:GO.
So Valve began developing VACNet in 2016 after
massive community outrage regarding the cheating issue.
"Only thing the community was talking about was cheating.
It was this just deafening conversation."
They silently deployed it at the beginning of 2017.
"Here we deployed VACnet and you can see hey we started getting more convictions, that's great."
VACnet is a deep learning tool that works to get as many people into the Overwatch system as possible.
"VACnet gets a conviction when
it submits a case it convicts 80 to 95 percent of the time."
Valve also developed a trust score system
designed to put cheaters in matches with other cheaters.
This makes sure that they play with each other while clean players play with other clean players.
In theory as VACnet gets rolling and
more and more cheaters get banned the game should feel more fair
That's because when those cheaters return to the game,
they'll all be matched up against each other due to their trust score
But the issue is that the game's top players have already left Valve's matchmaking system.
And while they'll be under VACnet's watchful eye it all seems like too little too late.
The community has found something of a solution to the cheating that runs rampant
on Valve's official matchmaking servers.
ESEA and Faceit offer
third-party pay to play servers with robust anti-cheat systems.
FaceIt even has a free version with a lot of the same benefits.
Neither Valve nor ESEA or Faceit want to show their hands
and reveal exactly how their anti-cheats work, which makes sense.
If no one knows how the anti-cheat works then cheaters will never be able to beat it
What we do know is that both ESEA and Faceit use intrusive anti cheats,
which check what else is going on in your computer while you're playing, and Valve uses a much
simpler system.
"ESEA can f*cking watch porn with me. Let me tell you dude
I could f***ing pull up a porn thing and some f***ing dev over at ESEA can watch it with me
having a grand ol' time. It's very intrusive.
So they have to let you know that it's very intrusive.
They can tell you exactly what the f*** you're doing on your comp homie."
And that's not the only reason that CS:GO players have switched over. Faceit and ESEA boast servers with
128 tick. The rate at which the server refreshes.
That's double what Valve has and something the community has wanted for a long time.
There's also a general
understanding that players are going to be less toxic and more serious on these services
because they're often paying for the right to play.
Now that's not always the case, toxicity usually finds a way to seep through.
(Stream)
And Rank S and FPL, the top ranks on the servers, don't have a lot of spots to go around.
Which means only the best players get to have that experience.
But overall third-party software provides the best experience for CS:GO pros to play against other pros.
Faceit and ESEA even offer payout for the top performers in each region at the end of the season.
This system affects real players from Silver to Global from Rank D minus to S. From Bronze to Pro League.
No matter where you play though, if you're an unknown or a less known player,
people are more likely to assume you're cheating than that
you actually earned your rank.
And the most recent example of this is 17 year old Faceit Pro League player d0cc.
D0cc ripped his way through the Faceit ranks and made it to Pro League, all without ever using a mic.
Communication is key in high-level CS and this was pretty unusual.
(Stream)
He even streamed his games but with no camera, And again
No mic. This gave him an air of mystery that led to a lot of online
speculation about his actual skill.
On the surface d0cc is a really talented player. He's even gotten some praise from top pros.
(Stream)
But the overwhelming voice of people accusing d0cc of cheating
overshadowed his skill. Fellow Dutchman ChrisJ reached out to help d0cc prove his innocence
But he refused.
"I asked him if he could come over and play from my place
But he says he cannot come until he's 18.
It's like whatever if he doesn't want to prove himself, then it's strange to me
but I cannot force him."
d0cc eventually met up with Faceit in the Netherlands to play under supervised conditions
and prove his legitimacy so he could join the ranks of FPL.
Sure he passed but his reputation is tarnished.
If d0cc ever chooses to pursue a career in CS:GO later on in life, those accusations
of cheating or going to haunt him and d0cc's story is eerily similar to Ropz.
Ropz was an up-and-coming player in the EU FPL and just like d0cc, he had to deal with plenty of
accusations of cheating early on in his career.
"He might be cheating actually. Watch this sh*t. He does like these quick looks.
That's so weird bro. Like why are you doing that."
"And did it. He did it right after he got the kill.
I think it's just one of these things where he has an OCD twitch.
I don't think he cheats.
I don't think they're right about that, you gotta watch all his streams and see why he's looking there.
I think it's just some OCD."
The community picked apart every aspect of his play to try and prove that he was cheating.
And just like D0cc, Ropz's eventually travelled to meet with Faceit employees
and play under supervised conditions to prove his legitimacy.
He also passed and is now a pro player playing for Mousesports.
Faceit might trust our anti-cheat but after years of dealing with cheaters running rampant
on Valve's official matchmaking services,
They don't trust anyone. The lack of pros on matchmaking is a unique problem to CS:GO.
League, Dota, Overwatch, all the major esports titles have pros in the
highest echelon of their matchmaking servers.
CS:GO on the other hand is so broken that it needs third parties to come in and clean up the mess.
"To really have fun in the game and feel like you're playing anything close to what pros play.
You tend to need some third party
service, that's not really the case in League of Legends
that actually got a fairly decent ranked system. Overwatch likewise, not really the case."
But Valve is off to a good start when it comes to fixing matchmaking.
The new more efficient anti-cheat is unbelievably important for the longevity of a competitive multiplayer
game.
They can change the server and even tackling smurfing might bring a lot of players back.
But none of that is ever going to matter to the top level of players.
They've left matchmaking behind and as ESEA and Faceit are rapidly improving
there's basically no downside to playing on them. Besides some players' monthly fee.
Sure the vast majority of CS' casual audience will reap the benefits of Valve's changes,
but the pros are never coming back.
