Youtube daily Best Nov 30 2018
Welcome to Indieformer, I'm Josh and today we're taking a look at the Top 5 Indie Games
from November 2018.
We just finished our giveaway of the complete first season of Life is Strange, so head over
to the discord to see if you won.
Now let's take a look at some honourable mentions.
From an ex-animator from the Witcher 3, we have Ricky Runner.
A hardcore parkour platformer in a fully physics-based world.
It hit early access November 30 and I had the chance to play it before release.
And at the very least, the animations are good.
The levels difficulty increased at a good pace and left a lot for you to work out.
When you get into games like this you may feel restrained by what's in front of you,
but you've got to look at how to break the rules.
The only 2 points that need work for me are, firstly there's got to be some music in
the background, it's quite bland without any tunes as you're running and jumping.
Secondly, it's just a tad slow and sluggish for me.
Although it's in a physics-based world, everything just seems a little held back,
or maybe I just suck at these types of games.
I'd love for there to be a sprint option implemented to speed up the pace a bit.
One to watch through its development.
Miles is a freshman in college and 'The Wall' has been his passion project for the last year. last year.
It's a fusion of the strategic elements in RTS' like Starcraft, the fast-paced combat
in online FPS' like Call of Duty, and the crafting/survival elements in open world games
like Rust and Minecraft.
Now that's a great combination of games to draw from.
From the trailer, the crafting and survival look great, the shooting mechanics make it
look like an entirely different game and the reviews so far are really good.
Defend your team's generator and destroy the enemy's in this online multiplayer experience.
It's a got a ways to go with it expected to remain in Early Access for over a year,
so it might be good to invest in it now.
Coming in at an affordable 3 AUD, Warpzone Drifter is a challenging game to fill the
void.
A breakless drifter retro-hardcore arcade game, made by the same creator of the UBERMOSH
series.
The Warpzone is an unstable parallel dimension used for transportation, and it's your job
to drift through specific nodes to stabilise areas of the zone.
There's moving tentacles, limited time and procedural levels to keep your fingers on
their tips.
The controls can be difficult to learn, but once you've got the hang of it, Warpzone
Drifter becomes a great experience.
Here's an interesting one; what happens when you combine a first-person shooter with
the progression and upgrades of a clicker game?
You get Time Warpers, duh.
Coined as an 'incremental game', there's always a fun upgrade to look forward to, and
the numbers keep getting bigger.
If you're someone who likes having a game idle in the background whilst you do other
tasks, then this might be something for you.
If a level is getting too hard, go idle and let your drones and turrets do the work.
Or join a public server and others may be able to boost you along.
Like any clicker game, there's going to be a grind and a point you can't pass unless
you grind, or in this case, go back in time.
For 30 AUD it might be a stretch for some people, but I'd consider it if you want
something you can literally just leave in the background and progress with and can play
at any time you want.
Maybe try to convince a few friends to get it too.
Now let's take a look at our Top 5 from November.
Based on Colin Thiele's 1964 children's book of the same name, Storm Boy takes place
on the beaches of South Australia near the mouth of the Murray River, where the titular
protagonist rescues orphaned pelican chicks, one of whom later becomes the child's pet
and faithful companion, Mr. Percival.
Cool.
Simplicity is at the core of this game.
It's comprised of many mini-games as you experience an interactive retelling of this
classic.
You take control of both Storm Boy and Mr. Percival in key moments, such as when the
pair rescue stranded sailors during a storm.
The music and design are beautiful, but it's a little rough around the edges.
This is definitely more of an interactive story than a game.
It puts pictures to the words of the book.
It's a way to follow a story, whilst also getting involved with some mini-games that
allow some attachment rather than just imagination.
I'd definitely say this was is aimed towards children, but if you like a good children's
book then this will take it to the next level.
It's a different experience when you can actually explore the world of a children's
book, and for a child, there's nothing better.
You can grab this on pretty much any platform of choice.
We live in a world where we use machines to do the dirty work, Despotism 3k flips that
and has humanity enslaved by an AI.
A resource management game, so there's nothing overly fancy here.
Manage the stamina, hunger and reproduction of your human race to continue building energy.
Every 20 seconds your food and energy deplete, so you need to manage how you're making
food and how your creating energy.
The aim is to make it to 25 days.
It's point and click, but there's nothing wrong with that if you're into it, but it's
necessary when there's so much to manage at once.
It's funny and challenging, but when you get the hang of it you pretty much know all
of the responses to make it through easily.
Thankfully though, there's a big update coming to the game that will be add more content.
Random events, point and click and general fun, can't complain for 11.50.
Price, a man who sold his humanity to get a partnership from a leading company: McDade,
Bruton & Moore.
Distraint 2 is a 2D psychological horror adventure game.
It has a dark story and it's fair share of dark humour.
The screen scrolls as you move to its edges with beautifully hand-drawn graphics.
There's music composed for each specific section of the game along with an atmospheric
sound design.
There are jump scares, as it goes with horror games.
But Distraint relies on human emotions, mainly fear.
So I'd call this more of a thriller than a horror.
Obviously, by the title, this is a sequel to an original of the same name where it follows
on from those events.
The mechanics are based around puzzle solving, so if you like a bit of a slow, story-heavy
puzzle game then you should give this a go.
I'd suggest picking up the original if you're going to buy this, but if you don't, the
sequel does a pretty good job of wrapping up the first.
It's only made by one guy, so any support his way ensures he can continue to make games
like Distraint.
For this one, I'm just going to let the developer explain.
It's one of the better trailers to let that happen with.
I'll give you my experiences once he's finished talking.
In theory, it sounds great.
But much like the babies, new players are useless unless
taught what to do.
So far I've not had many take the time to teach me, so I've had to have the wiki up
to see how to make things.
This game will take a lot of time invested to get knowledgeable at.
If you like a game that will reward you for knowledge then One Hour One Life is great.
Speaking and interacting with other players leads to hilarious situations, and you even
choose to be born as twins, triplets or quadruplets with a few friends.
For 30 dollars, I think this is a stretch, but as mentioned, if this is right up your
alley then you'll find it's worth.
A cooperative puzzle game that mixes eye-catching abstract art with mind-bending puzzles to
a unique gaming experience.
DERU is about playing together, you can play single player, but it's about communicating
and solving puzzles with someone else.
The main mechanic of the game is blocking the opposite colour stream.
It begins simple but ramps up in difficulty when new mechanics are added like being able
to leave a block in place to stop a stream or to transfer your size to the other player.
The design of the game is minimalistic and it uses nice shades of colouring.
It helps you focus on the task at hand and doesn't draw too much attention to itself.
There are a few bugs, but nothing that will stop you from figuring out a level.
One thing I forgot to mention is that this is a couch co-op game.
You need to use the same controller or keyboard to move the shapes around the screen.
That might be a turn off for some people, so they've integrated the game with parsec.
A client you can download to play with others online.
DERU is $21.50, so make your own judgements about the price, personally, it's a great
way to wind down and chill out with someone else and I'd happily spend the money.
It may seem odd to have a game like this as number one for the month.
But it's got challenging puzzles, a great design and plenty to figure out.
There really are no downsides to this game, and for other puzzle games like this, DERU
should be an example of what you should be aiming to achieve.

Best Moment: Tiffany Studios Vases & Crate - Duration: 5:33.
GUEST: During the Depression, my aunt was, started buying up these vases from Tiffany's,
so I guess she ordered some by the crate-load.
APPRAISER: On the side, it actually says, "Louis C. Tiffany Studios," with an address.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: And the crate in itself it's something you don't see very often, with "glass" plastered
all over the sides.
But I also want to point out the straw, because it's not often that people keep the shipping
crates.
So let's talk about what you have.
The, the dates are very interesting because the first piece of glass over here, which
is what we would call pastel glass...
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: is later-production Tiffany-- it was made in the '20s...
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: it was made in multiples...
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: and it came in different colors-- it came in pinks, and blues, and yellow, and
wisteria.
These are the colors that you see in some of the Depression glass of the era...
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: but this was a lot more expensive than your average piece of Depression glass.
Now, this piece is a paperweight glass vase.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: Leslie Nash, who worked for Louis Comfort Tiffany, claims that while they were
working with paperweight glass, Louis Tiffany himself, who was a painter, came into the
glass-working shop, handed them a painting of morning glories that he had painted, and
said, "I want you to make this in glass."
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Supposedly, it took $12,000 in R&D...
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: to create this kind of glassware.
1914 is when they first introduced it.
Your piece, on the bottom, actually says "exhibition piece" on it.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: And I know from the date letter on it, which is a suffix L, that that would
be somewhere around 1915.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: So it's possible that this could've gone to the 1915 San Francisco International
Exhibition.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: I think it came back to the studios, that's the interesting part.
You may have seen vases like this.
They're in many museums all over the world.
GUEST: I think I saw one at the Met in New York, mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: Yes, and the one at the Met has a number on the bottom, which is 1130-L. Yours
is 1132-L.
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: So this is two numbers after the Met's vase.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: The Met acquired it in 1924, even though it was probably made in 1915.
So these things still were sold later.
So just to give you an idea of value.
The, the crate, in a retail setting, this is something for Tiffany geeks everywhere--
collectors, museums.
They would actually be very excited about this, and it would be worth between $5,000
and $10,000.
GUEST: Holy cow!
APPRAISER: This piece, which is not as sought-after as some of the other art glass...
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: would retail probably between $2,000 and $3,000.
But this piece, in a retail shop, it could be sold for anywhere between $50,000 and $75,000.
GUEST: No way!
Oh, my gosh!
I was... thinking maybe $8,000 to $10,000, I was hoping.
Wow.
APPRAISER: Well, that was a long time ago.
GUEST: Wow, I really didn't know what the market had done, you know, if it had gone
sideways or up or down, but... wow. (inhales)
APPRAISER: So there's one other thing in here that I want to talk about.
This vase.
This practically stopped my heart when I saw it in the box.
(giggling) This is the piece I was waiting for for 20 years.
GUEST: Oh, wow.
APPRAISER: And what I can tell you is, every night before the "ROADSHOW", people would
always say, "What is on your wish list?
What would you like to come in to the show tomorrow?"
And I always say, "A Tiffany Lava vase."
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: And that's what this is.
It's extremely special.
It is meant to look like molten lava...
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: on the surface of the vase, and this one is particularly interesting because
you also have these protrusions here.
And it's very similar to a vase that was shown in the 1906 Paris Salon Exhibition.
GUEST: Oh!
APPRAISER: A very similar example is in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
in Paris, and it's been there since 1906.
GUEST: Gee.
APPRAISER: So when I saw this...
I was kind of excited.
(laughing)
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: Well, the thing about Lava is, it was very hard to make.
They get cracked in the making.
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: And I did go over your Lava with my special light and a magnifying glass, and
I couldn't find any imperfections.
An example like this, in a retail shop, could sell between $100,000 and $150,000.
GUEST: (laughing) Where's my brother?
He... (laughs) Wow.
That's unbelievable.
I had no idea.
APPRAISER: I just can't believe that your aunt bought all of this in the late '20s and
the early '30s.
GUEST: Yeah.
APPRAISER: It's... it's pretty remarkable.
GUEST: Yeah.

that's on sale for the next 10 days and win it.

Best Moment: Diamond Bracelet & Van Cleef & Arpels Ring - Duration: 5:03.
GUEST: My husband and I are originally from Los Angeles.
He's a congregational rabbi, now retired.
And while I was working in Japan in the late '80s, he had a phone call asking if he would
officiate at the funeral of somebody that wasn't a member of the congregation, and met
this woman, and she was charmed by him, and he officiated at her husband's funeral.
And she invited him to dinner, and he said, "Well my fiancé is coming back from Japan.
Would you mind if it was the three of us?"
And on Sunday evenings, she had a particular restaurant in Los Angeles which she would
go to, Trader Vic's, and we were part of the Trader Vic's Sunday night dinner event.
And this took place probably once a month for almost 12 years.
And when she passed, she left these two items to me in her will, and I remember admiring
the ring because that was something that she would always wear when I would see her Sunday
night.
APPRAISER: Now, have you ever had an appraisal done on the bracelet or the ring?
GUEST: Just on the bracelet.
And, at the time, in the early 2000s, I think they said it might have been ten grand.
But I've never had the ring appraised.
APPRAISER: The bracelet's kind of a classic 1940s…
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: …bracelet.
We can tell it has some European-cut diamonds in it.
If you look through the bracelet, the larger round stones…
GUEST: Mh-hmm.
APPRAISER: …all add up to about eight carats, total weight.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Then we have these baguettes, what they call "straight baguettes…"
GUEST: Mh-hmm.
APPRAISER: …kind of basket-weaved throughout it.
And in those is another ten carats of diamonds.
It's a Jewish appraisal.
GUEST: Wow!
APPRAISER: 18 carats, that's chai.
It's good luck.
GUEST: That is good luck! (laughing)
APPRAISER: And then it's made out of platinum, classic.
It's built like a truck.
That bracelet will never wear out.
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: And it's fantastic.
Couldn't find a signature.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: But when I see this kind of bracelet, and the metal work is a little heavy, it leads
me to think something like this was probably made in the United States, probably New York.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: I mean, she was out in L.A., it certainly could have been made there.
And if I told you that $10,000 today appraisal is low.
Today, if I had to reappraise that for auction, I would tell you that bracelet would be $15,000
to $20,000.
GUEST: Wow.
That's... (breathlessly) ...quite, quite a gift.
APPRAISER: Well, I'm not here for the bracelet.
I'm here for the ring.
GUEST: Oh, really?
APPRAISER: All right?
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: So let's go.
(chuckling)
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: So, first, I love the...
I love pearls.
The pearl in the middle is about 14 millimeters.
It's a little bit of a button pearl.
Instead of being very round…
GUEST: Mh-hmm.
APPRAISER: …it's sloped down a little bit.
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: Some pearls are cultured, some are natural…
GUEST: Mh-hmm.
APPRAISER: …and we're kind of assuming that this is cultured.
I mean, down the road, you could always have it X-rayed.
If we turn it to the side, everybody can see it's beautifully set, what we call "pavè-set"
diamonds.
GUEST: Mh-hmm.
APPRAISER: They're set so close together, there's one or two beads holding each other
in.
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: It's made out of platinum.
The pearl is later.
The bracelet's from the '40s.
I talked to my colleagues and we feel the ring is probably mid-20th century, maybe early
'60s.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: Platinum, about six carats of diamonds.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Now, when we turn the ring around…
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: …and we pull it off, over here is where the magic starts to happen.
We can see right over here…
APPRAISER: Mh-hmm.
GUEST: …it is signed.
"V.C.A."
GUEST: (gasps) Van Cleef and Arpels!
APPRAISER: Yeah.
GUEST: Holy moly!
She said something about Van Cleef and Arpels.
I always thought it was the bracelet!
APPRAISER: I know you did.
(laughing)
GUEST: Wow!
Wow.
Amazing, because I asked you earlier.
Wow.
APPRAISER: What did I say?
GUEST: You said, "No, not the bracelet."
But you didn't tell me anything about the ring.
Wow, what a pleasant surprise.
APPRAISER: And it was a pleasant surprise for me, too.
This is the kicker.
If the ring came up for sale, I feel very strongly for it, at auction, at $20,000 to
$30,000.
GUEST: As Shirley Temple would say, "Oh, my goodness!" (laughing) Wow.
APPRAISER: And it's the kind of thing, I think, would get to the high end of the estimate
pretty quick…
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: …because, frankly, this is very sought after.
If I was doing this for insurance replacement value, I believe you'd have to put the bracelet
at $35,000.
GUEST: Wow.
Amazing.
APPRAISER: But the ring, because it's Van Cleef, for insurance replacement, would probably
be closer to $60,000.
GUEST: Oh, my goodness, thank you.

Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones for Flying - Duration: 5:22.
AudioZack here! I'm about to bar it a 10-hour flight and I want to find out
which noise cancelling headphones are the best for flying.
I'm about to fly over the Atlantic, so I will be testing some noise-cancelling headphones.
The criteria are:
How well do they cancel noise?
Do they sound good?
Will the battery last the length of the flight?
And of course, are they comfortable?
you can probably hear the massive jet engines in front of me, so let's begin with noise-cancellation.
We'll be testing this by taking this little microphone and putting it inside my headphones.
These Sony headphones let you cycle between three different settings.
We have regular, noise-cancellation, and
ambient sound for when you want to listen to something, but you don't know what to listen to.
so here we go! Let's get rid of those jet engines!
That helped a bit! Let's try ambient.

I'm not a big fan of the ambient.
One other thing I like about these Sonys is:
I can immediately get out of the noise cancellation.
if the flight attendant asks me a question or if I'd like to pay attention to anyone else.
These monoprice headphones, on the other hand, just have a nice little switch.
That was immediate! It was not quite as noise-cancelly as the other models, but for the price it does the trick.
Up next, we've got Beats by Dre.
This model is a little older. I bought it a few years ago, and we'll seee if the noise cancelling technology is still all there.
I was hoping it would beat those jet engines into submission but
these things beat no more.
...and that's when the flight attendants brought out lunch one thing led to
another; I got distracted and now I'm back in the comfort of my own home.
I guess time flies when you're having fun, right?
Okay. Speaking of comfort, which headphones were the best? Which were
the most comfortable? Let's start with the Sony's. They're definitely heavier than
the other two but you don't really mind so much. It feels like you're wearing
headphones, but it's got this nice bit of cushioning at the top. I'm gonna move in
a little closer. It's got that nice cushioning at the top; nice and squishy
so you barely even know you have it. Well, you do know you have it on but you're wearing
noise canceling headphones. What do you expect?
Monoprice headphones are
definitely the lightest of the bunch. I think they're about, I want to say two
ounces less than the Sony's. They feel like you've got these nice little
pillows on your ears. There's the cushion. I could take a nap right now!
Now the Beats by Dre. They feel a little clunky they're... Weight wise they're
somewhere in between... It might just be because I'm using an older model but
like, the comfort justice isn't where the other two are. I could definitely listen
to an album with these, but a ten-hour flight is asking a little much.
To me the clear winner in the comfort category is Monoprice, and I am as
surprised as you are! And that brings us to battery life. Now I
can't really compare that too well because all three headphones lasted the
entire flight. Granted I wasn't playing music through them, and that may have
made a difference, but they worked. What else is there to say? And if I may
have a drumroll!
Where's the drummer when you need them? It goes the Sony!
They're just an all-around good pair of headphones. They outperformed my expectations, and I
