Hi,
I'm going to pick a record from this bin,
and apparently there's questions.
Um.
(gasps)
If you could have made music in any other decade
which would it be?
Probably the 80's,
just 'cause like the hair.
I think music right now is really exciting because
it's accessible to a lot more people.
There's something about live music
in that it can bring —— really bring people together.
There could be someone in there that,
that believes one thing,
and a person in there that believes the complete opposite,
all coming together for this one thing.
And I think that's really special
and I think only music can do that.

Lenovo Explorer Review | Affordable VR is here - Duration: 10:32.
<Troll Giggle>
dude really during the unboxing.
Chuck your gnome not a troll!
Hey welcome back to the channel alright I am gonna give this Windows
mixed reality thing another try and everything I talk about in this video is
gonna be down in the description I'm gonna have the headset that I'm
reviewing today and the one that I reviewed a little while ago... you know
what scratch it I'm not gonna put the one I reviewed a little while ago I'll
put a link up here if you want to see that review it was not a pretty
experience and it's not a fault of Windows Mixed Reality that is a fault of
that hardware it did not work very well. Now if you don't know what Windows
Mixed Reality is that's Microsoft's foray into virtual reality and it's different
than like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive where those two systems they
provide the hardware the software the drivers all that stuff, in Windows Mixed
Reality, Microsoft provides the framework and it's built into Windows 10 so you
don't have to load any extra software and then there's manufacturers like HP
and Acer and Samsung and the one we're gonna be looking at today the Lenovo
Explorer they provide the hardware so the headset and the controllers and
because everything is built into Windows 10 the setup is super easy. Basically
these headsets have one cable with two connectors on it there's a USB and the
HDMI cable that plugs into the HDMI port on your card and then you can go into
the setup it's super easy to get these up and going.
So this headset is actually really comfortable the padding is really good
on it it stays really snuggly once you get it on your head correctly but that's
kind of the weird part it's a little weird how it goes about it it has a knob
on the back and you turn it one way to loosen it, obviously, you turn it the
other way to crank it in that kind of feels like you're putting your head in a
vise when you put it on there and crank it down but what I found is you don't
have to crank it onto your head really really hard just get the the screens
centered on your eyes so that you have a clear view of the screens and then get
it tightened just so it sits on there it's not going to come off it's a pretty
snug fit and you know I've played some pretty intensive games I've never had
the thing slip off my my head and the nice thing about these headsets is you
can flip up the screens or flip up the headset without taking it off your head
to see the world around you if you need to work on the computer or talk to
somebody the next part is the screens and in theory the windows mix reality
headsets have better optics than the HTC vive or the oculus rift they have a
higher resolution so like the lenovo explorer has a 1440 by 1440 resolution
per eye by way comparison the oculus rift has a 1080 by 1200 resolution now
it's not all about resolution because there's other parts of the optics that
come into play and the next part is the field of view so the field of view is
basically how much you can see in your peripheral vision so for example this is
a real narrow field of view and there's a real wide field of view it basically
it's just how much you can see on the edges now the lenovo explorer has a
hundred degree field of view or 105 depending on what you read but basically
it's the same or very close to the rift or the vibe as far as field of view it's
very comparable to my rift the next aspect of VR glasses is that sweet spot
now on current generation of VR headsets there's a clear area that you can see
through the lenses to the screens and anything around that area is blurry so
if you don't have the headset adjusted correctly
it's not gonna be as clear as it could and if you don't have that sweet spot
it's not gonna be a good experience the Explorer has that nice field of view and
it has a great sweet spot honestly from just the field of view and the sweet
spot it's very very similar to the oculus rift all right so now onto the
tracking in motion so right now there's two types of tracking for VR headsets
there's outside-in and inside-out so outside-in is what the vibe and the rift
use and that involves sensors that are set up around your room that track the
headset and track the controllers and relay that information back to the
computer obviously but it's tracked through these external sensors you have
to set up those sensors you have to set up your headset and get all that stuff
working now with Windows mix reality that uses inside out tracking so
basically all the tracking is handled from the headset and the controllers
have lights around the top the headset has cameras and sensors in it so
basically what it does is it Maps out your environment and keeps a track of
the controller so it tracks the controllers around and tracked your
movement through the environment the controllers are tracked really well even
if you go back behind your head as long as it doesn't stay back there too long
I'd never really lose tracking the only caveat to this and this is one area that
I like the rift and the vibe much better is with the windows mix reality you have
to have a very well-lit room because some of that tracking is done through
the camera in the headset and if that camera can't see the room it's not gonna
be able to do that tracking and then you only get three degrees of freedom that
way because it's not going to know where you are in that space to know if you're
moving forward or back so you have to have a well-lit room if you're in a
scenario where you know you're sharing the room with the family member or
something like that and the bright lights are going to bother them then
this isn't going to work for you you need to have a very well-lit area for
this to work properly
so now on to the apps and games so if you go to the Microsoft Store there's a
bunch of VR games and apps in there there's not nearly as many as like on
the riff or the the vibe but they are available to adding more all the time
but the cool thing is that steamvr supports the windows mix reality
headsets now not every single game is supported but a lot of the games a very
good majority of the games work really well and they work just as well with
them windows met reality as they do with the the vibe or the rift there's also
ways that you can use your oculus rift games with the windows mix reality
headset there's a little more involved with that it's not officially supported
but it works I've been playing beat Sabre and it
works great so honestly I don't really see the amount of apps that are
available as a limiting factor if there's an app that's not available
currently that you used to use on your rift or your vive and it's not available
for Windows mix reality it's only a matter of time before that's gonna be
available alright so the obvious question isn't worth getting the windows
mixed reality headset over an HTC vive or an oculus rift it depends the windows
mix reality is kind of a generic term so there's different manufacturers make
these different headsets the most expensive one is that the Samsung one
that has a few more features and we'll go into that right now but that's more
expensive because it has more features the cheapest one is the HP one
don't even bother considering that the Lenovo Explorer is only about $40 more
right now it's about 240 u.s. on Amazon totally 100% worth the additional $40
and that's the thing you can get this headset with the good tracking and
everything for 240 bucks whereas the the oculus rift is still 400 I think at this
at this point and the HTC vive is 500 so if you're looking for a budget-friendly
the solution this is a great option if you travel a lot and you're gonna use
the VR when you're traveling the windows mixed reality is definitely the way to
go because you don't have to worry about those external sensors and setting those
up every time it's basically just plug it in walk around your room to map it
out and you're good to go so if you're a traveler and you're taking your headset
with you while you're traveling that's another good reason to get the windows
mixed reality so why would you get the the vibe or the rift honestly those
external sensors do give you better tracking there's issues with the windows
mix reality headset if you like I said if you pull your hand back and then you
know if you're swinging a sword or doing a bow and arrow that's not really an
issue but if you hold your hand back out of the sight of the front of the headset
for too long or you have your hands down at your sides it does lose the tracking
then you got to bring them up and kind of move them around until it tracks
again the other thing is the the fact that you have to have it in that
well-lit room if that if you can't do that if that's gonna be difficult for
you then the windows mix reality is not going to work for you the HTC vive and
oculus rift don't have that problem because they use those external sensors
so in darker environments the rift and the vibe are gonna work better they're
gonna give you a little bit better tracking but they are more expensive so
depending on what your needs are Windows mix reality is an excellent entry into
virtual reality we've never done virtual reality before you still need a computer
with these specs to run it but if you have that and you're looking for an
affordable headset I can definitely recommend the Lenovo Explorer I've been
really happy with it really impressed with it and I'm glad that I gave Windows
mix reality another try thanks so much if you have any questions on anything in
the video please leave comments below I'm happy to answer them if there's
something you want me to try with the the headset leave that below as well

Here's What I Think About Car Insurance Rates and More - Duration: 4:01.
rev up your engines, Martin Sue says, Scotty I'm looking for my
first car, would a Lexus from the 90s or 2000 be a good choice what should I look
for and how can I get the cheapest insurance rate, okay well Lexus makes great cars, my
my wife's got 2002 ES300 I bought for 4 grand with 60,000 miles best car we ever
had, if you can find one like that they're very hard to find,
go ahead by one, now what you want to do is, buy a four-cylinder one because
the rates, the insurance rates in the United States especially in Texas, they
go by engine size, you get a four-cylinder with a smaller engine the
rates are gonna be cheaper, and you don't want to go for a sports car because the
rates are higher, so get a four-door the insurance rates are cheaper on a
4-door then they will be on a sports one, and just you know look around the price
they're very good cars, and the lower the engine the more sedan ish, you're gonna
get lower insurance rates, that's just how that works
Taleen Soul, says I got a 99 Chevy Cavalier it always overheats when I
Drive it over 60 miles an hour, nobody can figure out why, well the mechanics
you're going to are idiots, there's only really a few reasons that can overheat
when you go over a certain speed, one is if your head gasket is starting to
wear, the faster you go it builds up too much heat, I've got a video for that, how
to tell if your head gasket is blown, you can do that test and if it's starting to
blow, the liquid in the test will turn from blue to yellow, then you know it's blown head
gasket, if it's not that, you've probably got a bad radiator, the radiator
dissipates heat, if you got an older radiator when your engine goes faster
and faster and faster, it builds up so much heat that a worn-out radiator can't
dissipate the heat, now how you can test that is, you watch your temperature gauge
you go over 60 and it gets high, quick turn your heater on full blast
then the heater is dissipating heat, now summer so it's hot, roll the windows down
so you don't melt yourself, but if you find your turn to heater on then the
temperature starts to go back to normal, you need a new radiator, that's a very
good way of testing that, it's how I test it when I'm working on them,
Brandon says Scotty, my father has an O7 BMW X3, when you're going at a high
speed and you slow down it will stall, I replaced the air filter less than
two thousand miles, do you know why thanks, okay well mainly it's a 12 year
old BMW and they fall apart when they age, but if your going fast and you slow down and it
stalls, it's got a problem in the idling system, and sometimes it's a very simple
thing you just need to clean it, I have a very good video, how to fix your car with
a little spray cleaner, you buy two bottles of the spray cleaner and it costs you
like 14 bucks, follow the directions, it shows you how to clean it, and it'll
probably fix your problem, because it's normally the throtte's got gunk on or
the mass sensors got gunk on it, and that shows how to clean them, the spray cleaners are
gonna cost you maybe 14 bucks and you can do it yourself, if that doesn't fix
it, it is a BMW and there's all kinds of sensors that could go wrong, then you'd have to
go to a BMW mechanic, charge you a ton of money, because that's how BMW mechanics are
but doing the spray cleaner stuff, a lot of times it will fix them, that one gamer
says, my 90 Mustang has a problem with battery consumption, if we leave it
connected overnight it will be dead in the morning any tipsm sure watch my video
fixing battery drain in your carm you got a battery drain somewhere and you can
check it yourself it's a very simple thing, you basically take off the
negative battery terminal, you connect it with a little meter and you watch it, the
meter shows there's a drain, you pull out the fuses in your fuse box one at a
time and when the drain goes down, you know that particular fuse, whatever it's
running has a short in the system, and if it's something you don't care about like
dome light, you can just leave the fuse out, you don't have to, but if you want to
fix it then you have to trace that whole system whatever that fuse runs to find
out where the drain is, it's pretty simple thing to do on an older car like
that, so if you never want to miss another one
of my new car repair videos, remember to ring that Bell!

The Key to the Mueller Investigation: The Daily Show's New Book | The Daily Show - Duration: 4:36.
Late last week, it was reported
that the Mueller investigation has entered a new phase.
That's right.
Robert Mueller is emo now.
He's still investigating,
but he, like, doesn't really care.
But that's not all. That's not all.
Because even though Mueller hasn't been able
to interview the president yet, last week,
he figured out how to do the next best thing.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now investigating
a new subject,
the president's Twitter feed.
According to the New York Times,
Mueller is scrutinizing Trump's tweets
and negative statements directed
at Attorney General Jeff Sessions
and former FBI director, James Comey.
The Times reporting Mueller also wants to question Trump
about his tweets.
Damn. Mueller is officially looking into Trump's tweets.
And something tells me
that Mueller's not a Twitter type of guy.
Yeah. I feel like, pretty soon, he's gonna be like,
"Cover me. I'm sliding into his DMs."
They'll be like, "Uh, sir, that's not what that means."
And, look, I know some people are saying, "This is ridiculous.
"The special counsel is gonna treat Donald Trump's tweets
like they're actually important?" But, remember,
remember, the president told us many times
that @realDonaldTrump
is the real Donald Trump.
It allows me to give a message without necessarily having

It's a way of bypassing dishonest media, right?
-(cheering) -We go, wah, wah.
(laughter)
Say what you want about Donald Trump,
but that man really has a wah with words.
But you heard him, you heard him.
Trump is more honest on Twitter than anywhere else.
In fact, when Mueller does finally get Trump into court,
forget the Bible-- they should make him swear on his phone.
That's what they should do.
So, Robert Mueller is looking at Trump's Twitter.
And it's not the worst idea. My only issue is,
if you've been on Twitter, you know how easy it is
to get distracted, right?
Mueller's gonna log on to investigate Trump,
and, the next thing you know, he'll be watching videos
of dogs dancing to Drake.
Which, by the way, is a real thing.
(Drake's "In My Feelings" plays)
♪ ♪
(laughter)
I've watched that 300 times,
and I still have questions.
Was the dog really dancing to the music?
Or did the add the music later?
Was the dog driving the car before he jumped out?
If so, where's that video?
Does the dog have a SoundCloud? I want to know where to find...
You see? I almost forgot what we were talking about.
Mueller investigating Trump's tweets.
This is what Twitter will do to you.
And look, Mr. Mueller, investigating Trump's tweets
for obstruction of justice is a good idea,
but you don't have to go on Twitter to do it,
because we at The Daily Show have already combed through
all of Donald Trump's tweets,
and we've come up with our own definitive analysis...
right here in this book.
The Daily Show presents
the Donald J. Trump Presidential Twitter Library.
You want to get to the bottom of the Russia conspiracy?
Well, we've done the work for you. Yeah.
We've compiled... we've compiled all of Trump's tweets
that show you how it really went down.
Every single tweet.
-Yeah. Every single tweet! -(cheering, applause)
And it turns out, it turns out...
crooked Hillary and the FBI
are the real Russians.
You just got Shyamalan'd.
-(laughter) -Oh, oh, and if you want...
if you want to get Trump on obstruction of justice,
we've covered that as well.
You see? We found the tweet
where he pretty much confesses to the obstruction of justice.
Look at that. Huh? Huh? Look at that. Go real close.
Nah-ah. You got to buy the book.
You can't just read it for free on the show.
-(applause) -The point is...
this book is far more
than just Trump's Twitter feed printed out.
We've curated more than 400 of the president's key tweets.
We've analyzed them, and we've added context
to really get inside of his head.
Like, do you have any idea how much he hates Diet Coke? Huh?
Even though he drinks it all the time? Look. Look.
Here's the complete history of Donald Trump's Twitter war
against Diet Coke.
All of this. Yeah.
And I'm not saying that it helps your investigation,
but it's pretty funny, it's really pretty funny.
Look, Bobby...
you've got no time to waste.
Donald Trump could tweet anytime that you're fired.

Here's The Secret Meaning Behind Meghan Markle's Beautiful Blue Earrings She Wore To The Polo - Duration: 3:32.
We can't stop thinking about the Duchess of Sussex's latest appearance at the polo.
The beautiful royal wowed the crowd at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club as she
watched her husband Prince Harry play in the Sentebale Polo Cup.
Meghan, 37, wore a beautiful denim dress by Carolina Herrera which she teamed with nude
high heels by Aquazzura and of course, a raffia clutch bag by J.Crew which cost just £44
in the summer sale.
You may have been so mesmerised by her outfit that you could have missed her beautiful blue
earrings.
The former Suits star wore a pair of cushion cut studs by her favourite jewellery brand
Birks.
The 'Bee Chic' studs retail at £494 online and are a glamorous edition to any jewellery
box.
However the earrings appear to have a special message.
Topaz is the birth stone for December, and although Meghan was born in July – the meaning
of the stone is love and affection.
Harry and Meghan shared a fairy-tale kiss at the polo – so maybe this is a reflection
of her happy marriage.
So heartfelt!
Blue jewellery is something that the Duchess loves to wear – her most memorable piece
is the blue aquamarine ring that she wore to the evening reception of her wedding to
Prince Harry at Frogmore House.
The stunning ring once belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales and was a moving
tribute to Harry's mother.
It was likely to have been a gift to Meghan from Harry – a memorable present to his
bride on their special day together.
The emerald cut ring, which was created by Asprey in 1997, featured the bold aquamarine
stone surrounded by small solitaire diamonds and is set in 24 carat yellow gold.
Diana left a lot of her jewellery collection to her sons' future wives, and in a letter
she wrote: "I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my
sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it."
From a young actress in New York in 2016 to a new royal enjoying Ascot with her husband
the Duke this year, Meghan has never put a sartorial foot wrong.
With her first birthday as a royal approaching, no doubt the Duchess of Sussex, who turns
37 on Saturday, is looking back at the past 12 months and reflecting on just how much
her life has transformed.
After all, at this time last year Meghan was not even engaged to Prince Harry and the couple
had still to make their first official appearance together.
Now she has a role at the heart of the royal family, allowing her to serve her new country
and carry out work for the causes close to her heart.
Meghan's status is not the only thing to have changed – her wardrobe has, too.
Gone are the clothes once suitable for first a young starlet and then a bona fide star.
In their place are beautifully tailored outfits perfect for Meghan's new public life.
However, be they Club Monaco or bespoke Givenchy, Meghan's outfits are always carried off with
her unique and unfailing sense of style, described by Christine Ross, of fashion blog Meghan's
Mirror, as "polished imperfection – effortless and elegant, but never quite the totally perfect,
every-hair-in-place sort of look".
Here, we take a look at 37 of Meghan's most popular outfits over the years and see how
our newest Duchess's style has evolved.

Lucas Torreira trains with Arsenal for the first time: Here's five things we noticed - Duration: 4:18.
The Arsenal team have returned to London from Singapore and were back in training on Monday ahead of the new season, despite the jetlag
The squad were joined by new signing Lucas Torreira, who was allowed to miss the pre-season trip to Asia to rest following his participation at the World Cup Here's five things we noticed from the Gunners' latest session
1. Lucas Torreira introduces himself to Arsenal The Gunners splashed out £22million on the Uruguayan this summer, following his exploits at the World Cup
In actual fact Unai Emery had his eye on the midfielder for quite some time, but allowed Torreira to focus all his attention on this summer's finals before swooping for him
In training on Monday the Arsenal coaching staff got a first good look at the player, and it seems they like what they saw
The holding midfielder should slot straight into the first team, and at just 22, will likely have a long a prosperous career in north London
2. Matteo Guendouzi has his eyes on the prize.Guendouzi featured twice for the Gunners in their pre-season tour of Asia after joining from FC Lorient, and already looks to have settled in
The 19-year-old is now itching to be a part of the first team going into the new season, and recently sent Emery a message of his intent
I hope to play a few games. It's a great environment to work in, we're working really well in training and we're playing well in the matches," he told AP
"But it's only the start. Hopefully this will be a big adventure with Arsenal.".Of course the hard work starts in training, but the sky is the limit for the teen
3. Emile Smith Rowe is also making noises.Like Guendouzi, Smith Rowe stormed onto the scene in pre-season for Arsenal, introducing himself to more than just the Gunners supporters
The youngster was compared to Kevin De Bruyne after starring in Arsenal's victory over Boreham Wood
He then netted in the Gunners' defeat by Atletico Madrid, before featuring prominently once more in the win over Paris Saint-Germain
Smith Rowe looks like a part of the furniture in north London, and again, as with Guendouzi, the sky is the limit
4. The Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang show.A positive atmosphere in the camp is vital going into a new season
It suggests the team is together, confident, and raring to get off to a great start - even if the first game of the new term is against Manchester City
Compared to other Premier League clubs who have endured a slightly disjointed pre-season, Arsenal's looks like it's been a blast
The young players are blending in well, along with the new signings, and everyone is picking up Emery's unique style The above picture of Aubameyang epitomises the mood inside the camp
5. I don't care if you are new! Emery made a lot of time for his new recruit on Monday, after he met up with his team-mates for the very first time
But after getting the introductions out of the way, it was straight down to work
We are just weeks away from the start of the season now, and it looks as if Torreira will be a starter for the Gunners from day one

Here's How Meghan Markle Will Be Spending Her First Birthday as a Royal This Weekend - Duration: 3:00.
Saturday may mark Meghan Markle's 37th birthday (her first as a full-fledged member of the royal family!), but the spotlight won't be on her
Meghan and Prince Harry will spend August 4 at the wedding of his childhood friend Charlie Van Straubenzee to Daisy Jenks
The pals met at Ludgrove Prep School and have remained close ever since — in fact, Van Straubenzee was all smiles heading into Meghan and Harry's royal wedding back in May
Royal photographer Tim Rooke (also know as "Rookie," who was nearly at the receiving end of a polo ball shot by the 33-year-old royal at his charity game on Thursday) shared that Harry would serve as Van Straubenzee's best man via Twitter
"Unfortunately I will be missing the wedding of Charlie Van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks where Prince Harry will be best man on August 4th in Churt Surrey as I will be on the beach," said Rooke while announcing his vacation
"Can't do everything!" While Harry has a special role in the bridal party, Van Straubenzee is also buddies with Prince William, who is also expected the attend the wedding with Kate Middleton
The groom's older brother, Thomas Van Staubenzee, is also one of Princess Charlotte's five godparents
This won't be the first wedding that Harry and Meghan attend as a married couple
Just one month after they said "I do," the royal couple attended the wedding of Princess Diana's niece in coordinating outfits: Meghan wore a long-sleeve blue-and-white floral print Oscar de La Renta dress paired with a chic fascinator, while her husband matched in a blue tie with his evening suit
Celia McCorquodale, the daughter of Diana's eldest sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale, walked down the aisle in June as she tied the knot with George Woodhouse at St
Andrew and St. Mary's Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire wearing the Spencer Tiara, which Diana wore in 1981 when she married Prince Charles
Ahead of their November engagement last year, the couple celebrated Meghan's birthday by heading to Africa — which Harry has called his "second home" — for a safari vacation
Wearing matching baseball caps and with their arms around one another, Harry and Markle walked across the airport tarmac carrying their bags and big smiles on their faces

Here Comes Baby - Newborn Behavior - Duration: 7:34.
Hello. I'm Tara Parsons, a registered nurse with the Monarch Center. Here today
to talk to you about newborn behaviour. It's no surprise that having a baby
changes your world. Your schedule, your orderly and tidy house, your sleep
schedule, it may all go to the wayside once baby arrives. This is because babies
behave very differently than you and I. So, what is normal, newborn behaviour?
How can you respond to your newborn's needs? When should someone be concerned
about their newborn's behaviour? First, let's compare newborn behaviour with
adult behaviour to give you an idea. Let's start with newborn sleep.
The average adult sleeps about seven to nine hours at a
time, and for the most part through the night or is able to get back to sleep on
his own if awoken.
Now, let's talk about eating.
The average adult eats three meals per
day with snacks in-between. Adults generally eat during the daytime and it
generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes for an adult to finish their meal.
It is recommended that baby be fed on cue as often as they want day and night.
A feeding cue can be your baby stretching, moving their arms and legs,
or bringing their hands to their mouth, or sticking out their tongue and licking their lips.
Now, let's talk about crying. Since babies cry to communicate,
it is normal for babies to cry multiple times a day.
Adults also cry when they are sad, upset, and when they are hurt, but much
less often than babies. There are many things you can do to soothe a crying
baby. Here are some examples: feed then or burp
them, change their diaper, check the room temperature to make sure it is
comfortable, make sure baby is not overdressed or
underdressed, go for a walk, talk or sing to your baby, rock the baby, give baby to
your partner or support person.
Now, let's move on to diapers.
Adults use the washroom about four to five times a
day and do so independently. Refer to this chart from Best Start for
information on what is normal for baby in the early weeks.
There are many community resources available if you have any questions
about your newborns behaviour. Here they are:

Highly Intelligent People Choose to Be Less Social – Here's Why - Duration: 4:07.
Highly Intelligent People Choose to Be Less Social – Here's Why
Welcome back to our channel guys.
In this video, I'm going to show you the reason why highly intelligent people often choose
to be less social.
But before we talk more about this matter, make sure to like this video and subscribe
our channel so you won't miss any interesting updates in the future guys!
Also, don't forget to check link on the description below to see our interesting offer that might
be useful for you.
First of all, let me ask you a few question.
Do you ever dream about being a hermit?
Would you prefer to live in a countryside cabin, instead of a bustling city?
Would you rather stick your nose in a book than throw your hands up in the air?
Do you hide when someone rings your doorbell unexpectedly?
If this sounds like you, I have good news.
You're not anti-social.
In fact, you just might be a genius.
According to an NCBI study, people who are highly intelligent tend to associate with
fewer people and seek out social interaction less frequently.
Interestingly, their life satisfaction increases when they choose to live by this strategy.
According to lead researchers Satoshi Kanazawa and Norman Li, for those seeking happiness,
the "hermit in the woods" strategy might be the way to go – especially for people
who are highly intelligent.
Through thorough research, these evolutionary psychologists were able to determine that
human beings are happier living in less densely populated areas.
They also found that happiness increases when a greater percentage of our social interactions
are with our most dearly loved ones, as opposed to strangers, casual friends, or acquaintances.
Unsurprisingly, the study's participants reported a greater level of happiness when
they had more frequent social interaction – except for one group.
For the most highly intelligent of people, this effect was not only diminished, but was
actively reversed.
In fact, as the researchers explained, "More intelligent individuals experience lower life
satisfaction with more frequent socialization with friends."
Carol Graham, who studies the economics of happiness, examined this effect in a Washington
Post article.
"The findings suggest (and it is no surprise) that those with more intelligence and the
capacity to use it are less likely to spend so much time socializing because they are
focused on some other longer term objective."
In other words, that nerd who says they have better things to do than hang out with friends
is actually on to something.
In interpreting the results of this study, evolutionary psychologists found great significance
in this dynamic in relation to the "Savannah Theory."
This theory proposes that we find happiness in the same things that would have made our
ancestors happy.
On the savannah, population density would have been low, and interpersonal interaction
would have been incredibly important for survival.
This study's results, although ultimately in support of this theory, suggest that the
most highly intelligent of human beings may be evolving past the need for very frequent
social interaction.
Instead, they are beginning to favor activities which promote our advancement in the modern
world – which tend to be more intellectually and economically based.
We need interaction less than our ancestors did, so the most highly evolved human beings
have ceased to prioritize it.
So, the next time you opt to stay home instead of hitting the club, don't feel weird about
it.
Feel smart.
You are an evolutionary groundbreaker.
Well, that's the reason why highly intelligent people choose to be less social.
Really cool information isn't it?
