The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be undertaking their first official engagements in the counties after assuming their titles upon their marriage in May, and will be visiting front-line charities including an organisation which supports the survivors of rape and sexual assault

Susan Pyper, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, commented on the Royal couple's visit to the Chichester Observer, saying: "We are so honoured to have the Duke and Duchess visiting our historic county and I know West Sussex residents are as excited as I am to welcome them here

"I hope they enjoy exploring some of the rich history of Chichester, including viewing the very special Sussex Declaration, before opening the university's fantastic Technology Park in Bognor Regis

" Peter Field, Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, also welcomed the couple's visit, telling the Brighton and Hove Independent: "Ever since their wedding day, the people of Sussex have been eagerly awaiting news of when the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit the two counties and it was a great pleasure for me when I heard that they were coming and I was asked to help organise the visit

"There is no doubt that since Her Majesty the Queen gave them the title of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day, at a ceremony watched by over two billion people worldwide, that most people in the world are now aware of the beautiful counties of East and West Sussex and how beautiful they are

Pointing to the financial benefits of their visit, he added: "I am aware that visitor numbers have already increased, and I know that many businesses are now taking advantage of the additional publicity

"In times of economic restraint we all need something to cheer us up and the visit this week is no exception

" The couple will first visit Edes House in Chichester, West Sussex, where they will see the rare Sussex copy of the American Declaration of Independence

Make Your Writing Smoother with Transitions - Duration: 7:01.

For VOA Learning English, this is Everyday Grammar.

Today we are going to talk about important transition words in English.

We will focus on how to use transition words to link ideas together.

Some common transition words are and, furthermore, in addition to, not to mention, and in the

same way.

Transition words are especially important in writing.

They help you give more information with fewer words.

When used skillfully, transition words can make your writing clearer and more concise.

Here's an example.

Listen to these three short sentences: Twenty minutes passed.

We were standing.

We were at the bus stop.

As separate sentences, they could be related or unrelated ideas.

Let's combine them into one sentence using the transition word and and the adverb still.

Twenty minutes passed, and we were still standing at the bus stop.

Notice how and clarifies the relationship among the three ideas.

It shows that these three ideas belong together.

And belongs to a group of transition words called coordinators.

Coordinators combine ideas of equal value, or weight.

Here are some more examples.

Cellular phones help us stay connected and allow us to find information easily.

The politician said he would raise taxes, and he promised to reveal the details of his

plan.

In addition, moreover, and furthermore are good alternatives to and.

Here are some examples.

My new phone runs apps quickly; in addition, it takes great pictures.

Our new teacher is highly qualified.

Moreover, she is friendly and down-to-earth.

The restaurant had slow service; furthermore, it was very expensive.

Sometimes you want to add and emphasize information.

In fact is a good coordinator for stressing a detail.

For example: Children perform better in positive environments;

in fact, most people react similarly.

Notice that the first sentence is about children, while the second is about people in general.

In fact helps the writer move from specific to general information.

You can also use in fact to move from general to specific information, as in this example.

Schools are moving toward project-based learning; in fact, my son's school just adopted a new

project-based program.

In this second example, the writer begins talking about schools in general and then

gives an example.

You can use as a matter of fact and indeed in the same way.

Did you notice the punctuation mark that looks like a mix between a colon and a comma?

This is called the semicolon.

You have the option of using a semicolon when you have two complete sentences that are closely

related.

Semicolons often confuse native speakers.

They are not required; you can also just use a period.

In addition and in addition to are used to add information.

But they have different sentence structures.

In addition to is a subordinator.

Subordinators show that one idea is more important than another.

For example: Cellular phones help us stay connected in

addition to allowing us to find information easily.

In this example, the main clause of the sentence -- "Cellular phones help us stay connected"

-- is more important than the subordinate clause of the sentence, "in addition to allowing

us to find information easily."

The subordinate clause cannot stand alone as a sentence.

In addition to can be followed by a gerund or a noun phrase.

Here are two more examples: In addition to providing medicine and food,

volunteers handed out clothes.

A gerund is when the "-ing" form of a verb acts like a noun.

The gerund phrase in this sentence is providing medicine and food.

In addition to medicine and food, volunteers handed out clothes.

In this sentence, the noun phrase is medicine and food.

Other useful subordinators include in the same way and not to mention.

Both have a similar meaning to also.

They introduce subordinate clauses.

For example: Egyptian youth demonstrated against their

government in the same way that young people in Brazil have demonstrated.

For a more conversational tone, you can use not to mention to add information.

For example: Congress did not get any bills passed today,

not to mention that many representatives did not even show up.

This is only an introduction to transition words and phrases.

We will cover more of these in a future episode of Everyday Grammar.

Transition words can be a great way to express ideas in a concise and sophisticated way,

especially in writing.

Next time you read a news article or a textbook in English, look for some of these transition

words and think about how they are used.

English learners sometimes force too many transition words into their writing.

Start off slowly with simple transition words that you really understand.

Not every paragraph requires a transition.

With years of practice, you will start to use them in a more natural way.

I'm John Russell.

I'm Jill Robbins.

And I'm Adam Brock.

Does Spidey's Web-Swinging 'Make You Feel Like Spider-Man'? | Game Maker's Toolkit - Duration: 13:14.

It seems like the biggest compliment you can pay the new Spider-Man game on PlayStation

4, is that it makes you feel like Spider-Man.

Seriously, there are loads of reviews that contain that exact same line.

And what they mean is, if you've seen a Spider-Man film in the cinema, then you'll

have an idea of how Peter Parker moves, fights, and swings about - and playing the game will

capture that exact sensation.

But actually, a lot of games work like this.

Especially big console releases.

Because games promise us a fantasy, and say, pop this in your Xbox and you'll get to

feel like an assassin.

Or a World War 2 soldier.

Or a cowboy.

Only, the fantasy isn't promised through a Hollywood movie, but instead the marketing

for the game.

Like the picture on the front of the box.

Or those flashy CGI trailers they play at E3.

For example, this Titanfall 2 video shows us the fantasy of being a nippy, trickster soldier

who jumps over enemies, uses gadgets to fool his foes, and can jump into a big mech to

wreck shop.

The gameplay then delivers on that fantasy, and effectively uses its mechanics to make

you feel like the bloke on the box.

But the question I want to ask is: how easily should that fantasy come true?

Look at Hitman, for example.

The CGI trailer shows Agent 47 as a perfect assassin.

He kills his targets without ever being spotted and then escapes into the shadows.

But boot up the game itself and most first attempts will see you screwing everything

up like a big bald idiot.

It's only when you learn the level, master the stealth system, and put in a bit of effort

that you'll be able to live out the fantasy promised by the game's snazzy marketing

campaign.

And maybe that's the right way to go, because if you give away that fantasy too easily it

can ring a bit hollow.

That's what happened with the combat in the Batman: Arkham games.

This is a really simple fighting system where you just need to tap the punch button over

and over again, and Batman will magnetically snap to enemies, pirouetting all over the

place like a goth ballerina.

And if you hit the counter button at any point during the generous timing window, the Dark

Knight will deck his enemies with ease.

Sure, fights look appropriately cinematic and the game makes you feel like Batman - but

when you don't have to exert all that much effort to get there, doesn't it feel a bit

patronising?

This is not the case in the combat for Spider-Man, which has a lot in common with the Arkham

fighting system but is a fair amount more demanding, and a lot less forgiving.

Spider-Man has lots more moves and unlockable skills, and can juggle enemies in the air

like you're playing Devil May Cry.

Plus, Spidey doesn't snap so magnetically to enemies when you punch.

Enemies gang up on you, making dodges and counters harder to pull off.

They use guns and rocket launchers to attack you from afar, or while juggling enemies.

And they'll even attack you when you're in the middle of cool animations, like swinging

bits of the scenery around.

All of this means that, for a while, you probably won't feel all that much like Spider-Man.

You'll look like a bumbling fool, getting bonked on the head by street punks, fumbling

finishing moves, and just sort of punching thin air.

It's only when you get better at the combat that you'll actually be able to dance around

goons like Spidey does in the movies.

So the combat in this game doesn't make you feel like Spider-Man - but it lets you

feel like Spider-Man, if you're skilled enough.

Getting to live out the fantasy is actually a reward for being good at the game.

Web-swinging, however, is quite different.

It is, to be fair, a pitch perfect recreation of the swinging you see in Spidey movies.

Right down to the animations, to the sound effects, to sense of speed, to the fact that

the webs actually connect to buildings instead of, like, the sky.

It absolutely makes you feel like Spider-Man.

And it's just really satisfying to swing around the city.

But it also comes very easily.

Starting a swing in Spider-Man is as simple as holding down R2 when you're somewhat

close to a building.

Which, in the densely packed metropolis of New York City, is just about anywhere.

You will then enter a swing, and and can choose when to let go: either when you're just

coming off the down swing if you want speed, or when you're barreling up towards the

sky if you want height.

You can also jump out of the swing, with X, for more speed and height.

But it doesn't matter too much when you exit the swing because you have so much control

over Spider-Man in the air, that you can easily set-up the next swing to go anywhere.

For example, if you whip the camera left, you can make a sharp turn and start swinging

down a street to your left.

There are also some other moves you can use while traversing.

The web zip gives you a quick blast of forward momentum, and is a cheeky safety net if you

end up in one of the few places without buildings.

Zip to point lets you snap onto any spot indicated by a circular symbol, and you can then leap

off again with a well timed hit of the X button.

And you can also do air tricks, to build focus and experience points.

This whole system makes it almost effortless to put Spider-Man where you want him, either

by abusing that ample air control to move Spidey around like a drone, or by forgoing

web swinging altogether and just using the zip to point system.

And you can certainly read that as a positive.

Or as the game making life just a bit too easy.

It's very different to, say, Super Mario Odyssey where getting Mario to the right spot

means reading the level layout, chaining together the right actions, and moving with absolute

precision.

And because it's quite tough, it's immensely rewarding when you get it right.

Spider-Man requires far less of the player, giving you a lot less satisfaction.

And even if you do screw up, the game is extremely forgiving.

There's no fall damage whatsoever, and no reward for staying in the air - unlike Insomniac's

last open world title, the spicy Sunset Overdrive, where you're given style points and safety

from zombies if you manage to stay above ground.

There's also no reward for getting close to buildings like in the addictive Superflight,

where your score ticks up as long as you're in spitting distance of a wall.

And if you hit into a skyscraper in Spider-Man, it's no big deal.

You don't bonk off like in Mario Odyssey: you just instantly transition into a wall

run.

Which might slow you down, but not massively.

And who really cares when the game so rarely asks you to swing with speed or with precision?

You're either just bumming around in the open world, or doing main missions that are

so rarely about swinging: they're much more often about beating up goons, or doing rubbish

stealth bits.

Okay, okay, there are some good missions about swinging, like this stage where you're infected

by Scorpion and have to stay above ground at all times because Peter thinks the floor

is poisonous.

That's an awesome mission.

And in this fight against Electro, you'll need to carefully swing around buildings while

shooting at power transformers.

I like that one too.

But more often than not, missions will be like this one: where there's no need to

be fast and catch up to this helicopter quickly because the game won't let you latch on

until it's made sure that you've seen these cool explosions first.

Now, it's not impossible to make a game where web swinging is a bit more technical,

requires a tad more thought, and isn't quite so forgiving.

Web swinging, after all, is basically just a grappling hook: a mechanic we've seen

in lots of games, from Uncharted 4 to Titanfall 2, and so there are plenty of examples of

games that have played with this mechanic.

Take Bionic Commando, for example.

This po-faced shooter is generally pretty dire but the grapple hook gameplay is surprisingly fun.

Like Spider-Man, you can hook onto buildings, and then swing off at the right time - but

what makes this game more interesting, is that in this post apocalyptic wasteland, grapple

points are much more limited.

Meaning that finding a route across a level is a tiny puzzle you must solve, and reconnecting

to grapple points in mid-air is an actual challenge.

You've got to position yourself near to a viable point - as indicated by this cursor

- and at the right angle to keep your momentum going.

Plus, toxic goo and bottomless swamps stop you from touching the ground, and certain

hazards like enemy snipers force you to move quickly from point to point.

Then, there's Overwatch, where the recently added character Wrecking Ball - actually a

hyper intelligent hamster in a robot orb - can use a grapple hook to latch onto bits of the

environment and swing around.

This one's really interesting.

You don't have very much control over the ball when it's swinging or in mid-air, because it actually

acts like a heavy physics object attached by a rope.

So you've got to be much more precise about your speed, position and angle of the initial

hook, to get where you need to go.

Also, there's zero automation on the grapple hook point.

You've literally got to aim and shoot with a cursor, which makes latching on at speed,

or in mid-air, a real challenge.

And finally, as the character's name implies, this hero becomes a literal wrecking ball

when in motion and you can cause great damage to foes if you swing into them.

This is very different to Spider-Man, which often has a distinct divide between swinging

and combat.

Though, the boss battle with Scorpion and Electro finally lets you use both at once.

I also enjoyed the first-person game A Story About My Uncle.

In this one, a goofy magnetic glove pulls you towards objects, but can let go at any

time to keep that momentum, and continue flying forward.

This is especially fun with moving objects, that can really propel you like a graviational

slingshot.

You also have a limited number of grapples in mid-air so you have to plan each landing

carefully, and puzzle out your route before you take off.

A subtly different take on this idea crops up in The Free Ones.

I'm this game you can latch onto wooden panels, and drag yourself in, like a hookshot

from the Zelda series.

But at any time you can hit jump to detach your rope and spring yourself forward.

Chaining together these moves in mid-air makes for some exhilarating gameplay.

Though, a little slowdown might be nice, when trying to click on those panels at top speed.

Now these ideas might not work for Spider-Man.

Spidey doesn't have a finite number of webs that get replenished when he lands, like in

A Story About My Uncle.

The New York City we've seen in every Spidey movie is a tightly packed metropolis, not

a ruined wasteland like in Bionic Commando.

And Peter Parker is a lithe, athletic figure - not a 500 kilogram lump of metal like Wrecking

Ball in Overwatch.

And so to go against those facts would, actually, break the fantasy that Spider-Man is promising.

But I reckon there's lots Spider-Man could have done to make web swinging more challenging,

while still delivering the fantasy promised by all those movies.

And other Spider-Man games have toyed with more technical web slinging.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a cool idea, to have webs come out of Spidey's left and

right hands, when you hit the left and right shoulder buttons.

It doesn't really affect much - you have so much air-control that you can turn left

even after swinging from the right - but that could be interesting to explore.

And in Ultimate Spider-Man, webs draw Spidey closer to the building he latches onto, so

you have to swing from side to side with a bit more rhythm to stay in the middle of the

street.

Again, it's very subtle, but it's something.

Plus, Spider-Man could definitely integrate swinging and combat more closely, like Sunset

Overdrive, which has a whole combo system that encourages you to fight zombies while

bouncing off car bonnets and grinding on power cables.

At the end of the day though, it comes down to how much gamers want to work to fulfil

their fantasy.

Spider-Man's web swinging could absolutely be as mechanically complex as keeping a combo

going in Tony Hawk's, or chaining jumps and hat throws in Mario Odyssey, or speed-running

in Mirror's Edge.

But it's clear that Insomniac wanted the system to be effortless to pick up, and the

developer specifically chose to avoid things that would break your flow, saying...

BRYAN INTIHAR: "One thing we talked about is we didn't want to stop players.

We didn't want to, like, face-plant.

We wanted to just keep your momentum and flow going.

He's eight years being Spider-Man, he's fine-tuned his traversal, so you slam into

a building and you just keep running up it".

So perhaps Insomniac was right to keep the more technical side of web swinging to optional

content, like these bomb diffuser challenges, where you're graded on the time it takes

you to get between different points.

Or these missions, where you chase a drone and have to swing through big blue targets.

Your first go will be abysmal, just like a first stab at a Hitman mission.

But learn the route, steer around buildings, and chain in different moves, and eventually

you'll score a gold medal and, yes, feel like Spider-Man.

It's similar to how Super Mario Odyssey works: you only need simple jumps to finish the game,

but advanced manoeuvres will score you secret coin stashes, let you skip bits of the level,

and help you win later missions like golden Koopa races.

Unfortunately, these Spidey sidequests will uncover how finicky the physics can be, and

reveal how leapfrogging from building to building with the point launch is often much faster

than normal swinging, and it will also show that the skill ceiling of the web swinging is still pretty

low compared to other traversal based games.

But it's better than nowt.

And, while I would have loved to see a more in-depth web-swinging system, similar to the

stuff in Overwatch and The Free Ones, I guess if you buy a game called Spider-Man, most

players just want to feel like Spider-Man the second they press start.

10 (more) Awesome Finds that make Great Gifts for Women, Men or YOU, Christmas Ideas over 50 - Duration: 28:07.

Hey awesome ones. I have scoured our home looking for 10 awesome things that we

absolutely love. I've laid them out on the table here and

I'm going to show you them, every one of them individually and it starts in just a few seconds.

So if you can believe it we've had our YouTube channel now for

over a year. It's amazing time flies so much and what

we did about this time last year is we did look around our home and we shared

10 of our awesome finds with you. I don't know if you remember that. I'm

gonna put a link up there for you so you can take a look at that video because

there are some amazing things that we still use on pretty well a daily basis.

There were things in that video such as coffee makers, special espresso and

cappuccino makers, there were exercise wrist monitors that had bluetooth on

them and I'm just trying to think of a few more of them. Oh those infusers, for

essential oils, that sort of thing and so what we decided to do this year is find

10 more for you and they're great items. They're also really great items to give

as a gift or maybe even give yourself as a gift, if you know what I mean.

Oh my way, every single one of these items we bought with our own money. This

is not a sponsored video. We really want to tell you like it is. Ten awesome

things that we truly truly love and so I wanted to say that oh and another thing

is that what we're going to do in the description is do a link back to our

blog or maybe even have the links....we're learning to do this, in the description

themselves and that way you can click on the link you can check out the products

we're trying to get them exactly the same. Sometimes we have to have a little

bit of a different one, but we're really really looking at the reviews and making

sure we've got it right for you, but yes we're going to do all of that and I am

required by some kind of a rule on videos to tell you that we

do make a little bit of Commission on this. You pay exactly the same. A lot of

them are Amazon products. You pay exactly the same as what you would pay

to anybody else, but hey you know what, we want to keep on doing....we're having, we're

just loving doing this with you and so we want to keep on going and that

commission really really helps. So thank you so much if you're supporting us and

some of you are even buying more things and I think you're coming back into the

links and you know they're all connected to us and you're buying your groceries

and books and all kinds of things and you know who you are, thank you so much.

We really really appreciate it. So here Oooh

Number one awesome fine this is a neck massager and I don't know if you can see what's

going on back here but it is totally awesome and I found this at one of those

Home Show kind of places. You just turn it on and off here. What I absolutely

love about this and I have....I have one of those chair ones, but this baby is

portable because it has a rechargeable battery and the battery lasts for about

an hour and a half or so, but I can also control how much pressure I want to do.

It's kind of doing shiatsu, kind of rubbing back there on my neck. I can also

do it on my lower back and of course I've got to tell you, you know you might want to

check with a doctor with some of these things, but I can just sort of take it

off right like this and as you can see it's very very portable. It also has a

setting on it there for heat. So if I wanted to do some heat with a massage

that's going to work as well and I you know, I don't know about you, but I really

do....I'm going to do just some more....but I suffer from a stiff and sore neck and

just to have this baby going..... and I can sit at my desk,

I can maybe watch some TV or a movie that we've were streaming, something like

that, it's absolutely incredible and it's my number one awesome fine and for the

next few ones, let's head on off into the kitchen. So number two of our awesome

finds has to do with wine. Bill and I really, you know at the end of a long day

we love a glass of wine. We're not excessive or anything like that, but it's

really important for us to kind of finish the day with a nice glass of wine.

Now for every day of course we've got our house wine which means it's a kind

of a cheaper wine that's available, but for those special occasions what we like

to do is we like to buy a little better bottle of wine and you know from all

different vintages and that sort of thing, this could be for our birthday or

for a holiday or maybe it's a new plateau that we hit with our YouTube

subscribers, but anyway when we do have the nice bottle of wine, if we have the

time we will decant it in a beautiful decanter such as this one here and put

the entire bottle of wine into it to allow it to breathe. Now Bill isn't it true

Bill we usually don't have time to do all of that. At the end of the day it

really is the end of the day. So what we do is.....this is the awesome find here. We

use a little....it's called an aerator like this and Bill's already opened the

wine for me and you just kind of put the aerator in here and Bill said....you said

you twisted it around a little bit....this is usually Bill's job, so twist it around a

little bit and get yourself a nice glass here and what this does.....it's going to

start going to cluke cluke. Oh maybe Bill can do a little close-up of this. Can you

hear the click click click? What that's doing is it's aerating

the wine and by putting some air into the wine it really, it really does help

to make it taste a little bit better. So just do a little bit of that right now

and it just stays in there quite nicely. We'll also kind of swirl it around even

more and or let it sit for a little bit. We have done tests with this and tests

of course with the decanter and the aeration sequence it really does help to

bring out all the flavors especially in a red wine. So for number three we're

still on the wine theme and what I have here our stemless wine glasses. You know

the other one glass that I just showed with the stem ,well very very dangerous,

maybe you're out on a deck or patio or maybe you have certain relatives over

for Christmas time or something like that, but these ones are really you know

hard to to knock over and I absolutely love them. Now what I'm going to suggest

is you do get a better, if you love wine, do try to get a better glass because

these ones that we have they're from a company called Reidel. I think it's

r-e-i-d-e-l and just listen to the ting on this......

it's just like beautiful, beautiful stemware and when you drink out of it

because it is so thin and I hope Bill's getting a close-up of this because it is

so thin you really do feel like you are drinking out of a very very nice

beautiful glass. So my fourth awesome find has to be this grill. It's one of

those the lean mean fat grilling machine from George Foreman and I absolutely love it.

We have the large size and as you can see it's almost like a Teflon on this

side and on also on this side and we did do a video on some of our favorite

finger foods and here you can see me grill'n away. I'm making some fajitas

here on the George Foreman grill and it really is quite easy to use and so back

to me now. We....yeah we absolutely love it and you can make so many things with it.

You can make fajitas you can make paninis you could make steaks and what

it actually does is.....let's say you put a steak here,

it's the middle of winter you're not going to go out and barbecue. You put the steak

in there....of course you've plugged it in and it just starts going and it's

grilling on both sides. Now it does come with this handy tray, don't forget to use

it because that's where all your drippings go they go into the tray and

not all over your your counter tops, but you know whether you're looking to eat

healthy and have some grilled vegetables or you know lean turkey or chicken or

something like this this baby we use it, we love it, it's a great awesome find.

So my fifth awesome find and I'm bet you guys haven't even seen this before. First

I'm going to tell you a story about this, Bill and I what we like

to do is we like to go to really fancy restaurants or maybe an old-fashioned

hotel and we go into the bar, we order ourselves a couple of Manhattan's. One of

the things that we've been noticing is that when they serve up the Manhattan's

they're giving kind of these spherical balls as ice cubes and they're really

amazing. So guess what I found? I found the spherical ball ice cube maker and

these are the holes here....you just sort of and you can do it, you can just sort

of pour it. I usually just pour the water very very thin stream of it through the

holes and what you do is you end up with these amazing little ice cubes. Now

the one thing I love about them is that they really take a long

time to melt. So I'm just gonna put this...sometimes I put it in with a spoon but

as you can see here that's gonna take forever to melt and I don't know if Bill

wants to do a close-up of this, but what happens is in a Manhattan, or I'm going

to pour Bill a nice little Scotch here. What do you think about that Bill?

Tasty. You deserve it, you've been working hard today, but so a scotch on the rocks,

where it's not going to really dilute the Scotch at all. So let's just see if I

can do this here and I think that's about enough for a scotch,

but isn't that fabulous and you're not drinking a whole bunch of ice cubes or

anything like that. So I just love them. And for any of you

out there that are always looking for bloopers, yes it was Irish whiskey and

not scotch. I got it all mixed up. Anywho.....now one of the things about some

of these things that we have....we are so excited right now because Amazon has

given us our own storefront. I guess it's because we have so many subscribers

right now. Thank you for that and our little store is called Amazon or it's

located at amazon.com/shop/awesome over50 and what we have we're

allowed to put different categories and sections. So if you like my makeup, I have

on my makeup there that you can buy from Amazon. I also have you know if you like

the way I curl my hair....fashions and then we also have housewares and kitchen

items and of course gifts for her and gifts for him. So I just wanted to

mention that so you can take a look at it all year round and it's great for

gift giving or again as I said giving a gift to yourself. So number 6 is

an oldie but a goodie. It's a slow cooker. Some people call them a crock-pot and I

absolutely love love love this and it's really easy. You can take out this

ceramic gizmo and it's easy for keeping it washed and clean and all that sort of

thing. You can even put this in the dishwasher. It takes up some space, but

anyway....now if you're thinking oh oh I got one of those from 1972. You might

want to rethink digging it up because these are really inexpensive and of

course we're going to link them in the description as well and they'll be on

our blog, but you know the other night Bill....you love spaghetti right? Oh yeah!!

I just threw in some spaghetti sauce, real Tomatoes, onion

and peppers and all that sort of thing and I just let this sit then you can see

that there's some, you know different levels you can put it on high, you can

put it on low and all the timing and it was amazing spaghetti.

Also you can....we've got to eat healthy, especially you know the older we get and

you can put in carrots and celery and and all kinds of things. Make some

amazing soups and and put some grains in there, maybe some brown rice or whatever.

And chile....chile is another staple to put into these slow cookers and we have

to eat our beans apparently beans are really good for our us. I was also

amazed. I bought this little, "A hundred and one things to do with a slow cooker"

and I just can't believe it. So we're gonna try to find some maybe some

cookbooks for you as well and have some links, because I mean you could put a

whole pot roast in here, a chicken there's things that I never even thought

about and you just put it on low and that's the other reason you know you

really want to make sure that the plug is good and everything because a

lot of people kind of leave this on their counter for maybe eight hours

or so, but just amazing suggestions and I love mine. It's a real time-saver too

because you don't have to sit over a stove and stir and stir. So as you can

see I've still got a few more awesome things left and if you love tea.I am a tea

drinker and I absolutely love this awesome find and what it is, it's tea on

the go and if you're like me you've sort of gone to the more loose leaf tea.

You're not really using teabags anymore and this one is a cream earl grey and it

is so good and you can get loose leaf tea and green tea

or darling or jasmine, I mean chai tea, there's so many different blends out

there and they're absolutely delicious. Some of them even have chocolate in them,

but anyway getting back to this particular item. What you do is you just

open it up and you pour in some of your loose leaf tea. So depending on how

strong you kind of like it you just pour that in there and you add your hot water.

I don't usually fill it right up to the top, but I just add my hot water. Now as

you can see on here, I don't know if Bill can do a close-up here, but there's a

little bit of a strainer and like I said there's different makes of these, but

basically you make sure the strainer is there in its place....put that on and then

as I am decided, oh hey I love my coffee in the morning but in the afternoon

I gotta have a cup of tea and so if I'm ready for that as you can see I'm just

drinking through this little hole here or you can pour it into a

glass as well.....a glass....a mug, but what is really great about this is it's now

making....straining all those tea leaves that are down inside here and what a way.

It's just fantastic and it's not even that big, wonderful little find here. So

let's just stay in the travelin mode here and what I have here is....believe it

or not it's a fold up backpack and if you saw the bike riding video that we

did, I'll put the link up there, but anyway in the bike riding video here's a

picture or a video of Bill and he just throws this over his shoulder, so it's

really really light and it is a very lightweight backpack. So I'm going to

open it up here and what do I have inside? Well I have

some paper, but as you can see it's light as a feather and it actually just folds

into itself and probably not going to get it right...just folding it right now

but it's you can see how tiny I can fold this and it actually almost goes into a

pouch like thing. This is fantastic for putting into well let's say you're going

traveling somewhere maybe, oh maybe you're just going for a walk and you

need it bike riding maybe you're going hiking or maybe you are going traveling

and you want to put in maybe an extra pair of socks, a sweater or a jacket.

Maybe some water and some snacks and this little baby it's so small that if

you are traveling on a plane you can probably even put it on your carry-on.

And of course I meant to say "IN" your carry-on, not "ON" your carry-on.

And talking about carry-ons, I have found this amazing carry-on. Now it's a

Samsonite and what Bill and I did....we really researched....this is one of

Amazon's best picks. It is so amazing, like I don't know is you can see this.....

this is like just my fingers holding this it is so lightweight and just

amazing. It's also very very scratch resistant. I'm going to do a video if

it's not up already. I haven't done it yet so I can't link to it, but Bill and I

are going on a five-day trip to LA and I want to get everything in a carry-on and

in my purse. And so I will be showing that, but this is just fantastic

and of course it has the....you know I think it's extension handle

here, but it also has another handle as well. This should be easy....there we go.

Right here you know for those times that you're walking on the escalators etc and

Bill if you get a close-up of these wheels. Look at these wheels, these swivel

wheels. I mean they're just fantastic also I made sure that I got this in kind

of a bluish grey color. I'm going to suggest if you're giving yourself a

treat and it's on your wish list to get a new carry on, just you know and your

luggage because a lot of times you get the carry-on or the luggage - don't get

it in black because everybody's tends to have the black. So let's just open this

baby up and show you a little bit of what I'm talking about because again

love love love and I guess well here we go. Alright so there you go, lots of

pouches you know to put maybe some wet things that might you know some of the

toiletries make sure you get the right sizes because you have to have the

little small ones and some clothing maybe some shoes can go in there and the

other thing that I really love about this is it has a lock so you can just do

your own combination and lock her up. So last but not least is this Go-Belt.

Stretchy belt too guys and I even saved the packaging for you, As seen on TV and

you know it's really fantastic because it's like, I put a little bit of cash in

there or something and maybe a little bit of I.D. I'm just going to show you

something but thinking of the big fanny packs are kind of not there anymore we

should really try to get something a little bit more slender and what I like

about this is....I'm just going to put it underneath this top and you can see that

if I did have a little cash in there or something and let's say that

I was traveling maybe in another country I don't want to bring my purse or maybe

I am going to a festival or hiking or going for a long walk or a run or

something along those lines, this is fantastic. Now if I am going for a bit of

a run and as you can see what I'm doing here it's really easy to snap on there.

It also has a couple of zippers and I read the reviews they said be careful

with the zippers. Okay so but what they're saying is that this will hold a

water bottle. So let's just see how that fits in here and as you can see so I've got

my water bottle..... just give me a second again they say be

really careful because sometimes it's a tight fit with these with a zipper do it

really really slowly. I'm actually gonna put it on the table and here and there we

go. You know they'd probably fire me on television for "As Seen on TV" or whatever

those things are....but there you go. So I'm pushing it together. I want it to last

and now I'm gonna go for a run as you can see that fit in there quite nicely

in my Go-Belt. I still have some room over here if I wanted to put my ID,

credit cards you know whatever else I might want to put in there and now yeah

I'm gonna probably have to put it in front of me, but it still attaches quite

nicely. Snaps in the back....there's a little bit of give in, oh Heather, there we go.

So now I'm running and I got my water and I am hands-free and all that sort of

thing. I think it fits a 36-inch waist something like that.It is adjustable but

I love it. Hey a lot of those things you gotta be hands-free and this is perfect.

So there you have it. What do you think of this year's awesome finds? You know

and if you have an awesome find that you really want to share with us,

put it in the comments. I want to read about them and maybe I'll go...oh my gosh

yeah that's another awesome one and you might even find that we'll put it into

our our storefront there at the what is it on amazon.com/shop/awesomeover50

stores. So there's so many things that what we really try to do

with this video is, we wanted to give you things that would really enhance your

life. You know that's what awesome over fifty is really all about. Maybe you saw

the carry-on and you're going yeah you know what, I've got to do some more

traveling. I've got to see my kids. I have to see my friends, they live in another

state or another country or whatever and what we want you to do is maybe look at

that or or hmm I should be eating more healthy maybe you have got a eat more

vegetables, make more soups in that slow cooker or exercise with the Go-Belt or

whatever it is and of course having your own little personal masseuse with that neck roll thing,

just love love love that so you know we hope we showed you some things that will

help keep you healthy and happy and most of all to have some fun. And talking

about fun....... Hurricane he's been waiting patiently on

my lap here. Our little Hurricane he is so much fun. And what did you think about

all those awesome things? Yeah I think that's the seal of approval right there,

but you know we're just so happy also to have you our subscribers and by

Arsenal legend Martin Keown make hilarious comment about Alexis Sanchez during Man United clash - Duration: 2:04.

Alexis Sanchez has not exactly hit it off since joining Manchester United from Arsenal

The Chilean signed for United as part of a swap deal that took Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates in January

But in Manchester he is a shadow of his former self.Sanchez was the main man at the Emirates, scoring 80 goals in 166 appearances during three and a half years in north London

But at United he has managed just three goals in 24 games under Jose Mourinho. He is, of course, not the only one struggling to make a mark in the Portuguese manager's regime, with Mourinho having a very public spat with France World Cup winner Paul Pogba

But he comes in for constant criticism on social media, and from pundits on television and radio too

And tonight has been no different.United have stuttered to a goalless draw with Valencia at Old Trafford tonight, although that result means it's four points from their opening two Champions League games - hardly a disaster

Arsenal legend Martin Keown was at the game for BT Sport and made a hilarious comment about the 29-year-old's display against the Spanish outfit

Keown said: "It's almost like they've signed the brother of the player at Arsenal

" Twitter users could not help by laugh at the comment, with one saying it was a "classic line from Keown" and another saying "Keown really hates Sanchez"

DEVILED EGGS | how to make the best deviled eggs recipe (paleo, keto, whole30) - Duration: 4:00.

- Hey guys, and welcome back.

The holidays are fast approaching and during the holidays

we're always in the need of some healthy snack

and appetizer recipes.

Because let's be honest,

most holiday nibbles are anything but healthy.

Now I definitely don't have anything against splurges

but when you have the option to eat a healthy snack

versus a sugary snack, I think that's always a win.

So today I'm gonna show you how to make my easy

and delicious deviled eggs.

Now this is a classic deviled eggs recipe

and I think still the best version of deviled eggs.

But over on my website

I will give you a few different flavor variations.

Depending on the time of year you're making this recipe

or if you're making it for a specific holiday like Easter,

you can have fun with a variety of different flavors.

All right, let me show you how to make 'em.

To get started, fill a pot with hot water

and bring it to a boil.

I'm using a medium size pot today

as I'll be cooking six eggs.

But you could use a larger pot and cook more eggs to easily

double or triple this recipe for a large gathering.

I've shown you how to make both hard boiled eggs

and soft boiled eggs before.

So if you'd like a step by step tutorial for perfectly

boiled eggs of all different consistencies,

make sure to watch that video.

But for today's hard boiled eggs,

once your water is boiling, reduce the heat to low

so that there are no longer bubbles forming.

Then use a skimmer to gently transfer your eggs to the pot

and set a timer for 14 minutes.

While the eggs are cooking,

prepare an ice water bath and set that aside.

The ice water bath immediately stops the eggs from cooking

and helps to prevent that green tinge you can get

around the yolk from overcooked eggs.

After your 14 minutes is up,

use your skimmer to remove the hard boiled eggs

to the ice water bath and let them fully cool.

Peel your hard boiled eggs,

give them a rinse and slice them in half.

Then use a spoon to remove the egg yolk to a bowl

and place the egg white on a serving tray.

(upbeat music)

When it comes to removing the yolk,

I have a little trick that makes it super easy.

And that's to use two of your fingers to pull back

on the top and bottom of the egg.

When you do this the egg yolk almost pops out on its own.

But you can still use a small spoon for some added help.

(upbeat music)

Once all your egg yolks are in a bowl,

use a fork to break them apart until they're crumbly

and resemble coarse sand.

Then add three tablespoons of mayonnaise

and I'm using my homemade mayo recipe.

One teaspoon of Dijon mustard.

And I do recommend Dijon mustard

rather than yellow mustard for more flavor.

One teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

and some salt and pepper.

Then use a large fork or spoon to stir everything together

until it's nice and creamy.

(upbeat music)

To transfer the yolk mixture back into the egg whites,

you can use a small spoon or you can use a piping bag

if you'd like a more ornate looking deviled egg.

I personally like the more rustic look of the yolk mixture

just dolloped back in but it's completely up to you.

Then to make these truly deviled eggs,

we need a little spice.

So grab your paprika and sprinkle a little bit on each egg.

(upbeat music)

And that's how easy it is to make deviled eggs.

I hope you guys enjoyed this video and if you did

make sure to give it a thumbs up

and hit that subscribe button below

so you don't miss my next video.

How To Make Homemade Power Balls For MTB Riding | Blake Bakes Trail Snacks - Duration: 6:29.

- Five ingredients, 15 minutes,

and you can get yourself some of these power balls.

(whoops)

I'm gonna show you how to make these things.

(mumbles) Because they taste so good.

Mmm-mmm.

Welcome to Blake's Bakes and a totally different scene.

I'm in the kitchen, I'm gonna cook up some fuel

for us peeps out on the trail.

So today, I'm going to show you how to make

these amazing power balls.

And you're gonna need these five ingredients.

128 grams of figs.

2/3 cup or 85 grams of oats.

1/4 cup or 32 grams of dark chocolate.

Three tablespoons, which is roughly

50 grams of almond butter.

And, lastly, one tablespoon of chia seeds.

So it's gonna take you 20 - 30 minutes to make these balls.

They are vegan friendly, freezer friendly for one month,

and they do keep for one week in a closed container

or zipped bag.

Okay, so you want 85 grams of jumbo oats.

I've got jumbo oats, you can get rolled oats,

any oats, anything that is oats.

85 grams of it.

70, 83, 84, 85.

It says 85.

Got your first bowl of goodies.

So with dark chocolate, you want 1/4 cup,

which is roughly 32 grams.

(chocolate snaps)

You gotta love chocolate.

So I'm going more than 32 grams,

because I love chocolate.

Next up, you wanna get some figs.

This is gonna be your substance to those power balls.

So you want 128 grams of figs,

and figs are really good for you.

Figs are good for your bowel, that's for sure.

My grandad eats figs.

Let's dice these figs up so they're a little bit

more easier to blend.

So, we got 128 grams of figs,

this is definitely gonna make it a little bit more meaty.

And figs are good.

There's no sugar involved with this,

because we're using all those natural sugars

within these fruits for the sugar rush.

So that's gonna give you a little bit

more energy on the trail.

And figs, oh, man, I love figs.

When I was a young kid, we had a big tree in our garden.

It was nice.

Tell you what, going to the toilet wasn't...

Was a dream.

That's what figs are for (laughs).

Now we've chopped up our figs just to give our

little blender a little helping hand and now,

it's time to make some noise.

Get your little blending pot.

Any blender will do as long as it gives it

a nice, smooth, pasty texture,

because you don't wanna have big, chunky bits

in your nice, smooth balls, ha ha!

Anyway, so you got that, and then once you're blending that,

you want to get that to a nice, creamy paste,

not too overdone, and then you can start adding in

your other ingredients.

(blender whirrs)

See what I mean?

If you had large figs in there,

it would, (exhales) it would be so hard.

(blender whirrs)

Right, so now it's time to add those chia seeds

to the mix, so that is a tablespoon of chia.

Get every little chia seed out of there.

Every penny's worth.

Now, is to get three tablespoons,

like I said, I went in for almond butter,

you can go for any butter you want.

Three tablespoons, you want a nice, good dollop

of the stuff, give it a good mix.

Alright, three big tablespoons.

Like I said, it's a bit messy,

it's gonna get sticky, it's gonna get runny,

but it's all worth it.

(cheerful music)

Be generous with this, because you'll be like,

thanking yourself when you're on the trail,

like, oh, man, I'm so glad I put loads of butter on that,

loads of almond butter, loads of peanut butter.

Now, to add the oats, jumbo oats to the mix.

All 85 grams of it in there, done.

Now, with the chocolate, if it's a little bit hard,

like it is here, you can put it into the microwave

just to soften it up a little bit

so it is a little bit easier for you to mix.

(blender whirrs)

Oh, I think that is ready.

I think that is ready.

Look at that, look at that.

It's the sort of texture you want,

you can see bits of chocolate in there.

You don't have to be that thorough,

you don't need to get all of them,

you know, all of that chocolate chopped up

because it doesn't matter,

because when you get into the ball,

now it's time to make the balls,

but when you're making the balls,

you could potentially pick up a nice lump of chocolate

and roll it up, then when you're out on the trail,

you chomp into it and you're like, (gasps).

It's the best thing.

Right, now, you just wanna pick up a nice lump,

like that, and get dirty, this is where you get dirty.

It's like being on the trail when you're full of mud,

or if you're hiking you could potentially

have these as well.

I'm gonna roll these things up into nice spheres,

like the earth.

Or the moon.

So little tip, when you're rolling these balls,

is you wanna kind of really squeeze them together,

kind of get all that air out of them,

because if you don't, it'll just crumble.

You don't want them crumbling into just a big old mess

in your bag when you're out on the trail.

(upbeat music)

When you're done, you just pop them in a bag,

get them ready to head out on the trail, woo!

(upbeat music)

(sniffs) The power is in those balls, for sure.

That's gonna give me some energy out on the trail

and you as well, if you follow this recipe,

definitely help you out.

Also, this goes to show you don't have to go to the shops

to go buy your energy bars, you can do it at home.

Takes 15 minutes to prepare, 15 minutes to make and mix

and roll up into these balls, woo!

They smell so good!

Right, if you wanna see another video where

these things would definitely come in handy,

click over here where Neil does 100 miles in a day,

he should've taken some of these balls

to give him a bit more energy out there (inhales).

If you love this sort of content,

hit that globe to subscribe because you can see a lot

more of this and if you wanna see me do some more

cooking stuff, let me know in the

comments down below and give it a smash up,

thumbs up if you love my balls (laughs).

In this video, we'll be sharing with you 10 psychological tricks to make you likeable

so that people will like you everywhere you go.

If you're new here, consider subscribing so that you won't miss other interesting

videos like this

No. 1

Let people talk about themselves

Harvard researchers recently discovered that talking about yourself may be inherently rewarding,

the same way that food and money are.

Though you want people to like you, you must understand that human beings are extremely

selfish.

Nobody will like you except you first let them feel good about themselves.

One of the best ways to make people feel good about themselves is to let them talk about

themselves.

When next you meet people, discipline yourself to speak less and let them do the talking.

Ask them personal questions and let them tell you about themselves.

When you leave, they will feel good and because you make them feel good, they'll like you.

No. 2.

Mirror Them

Mirroring is a psychological trick of mimicking other person's behaviors, gestures, facial

expression and body language.

In 1999, New York University researchers documented the "chameleon effect," which occurs when

people unconsciously mimic each other's behavior, and that mimicry facilitates liking.

Researchers had 78 men and women work on a task with a partner.

At the end of the interaction, the researchers had participants indicate how much they liked

those partners.

Without doubt, participants were more likely to say that they liked their partner when

their partner had mimicked their behavior.

Why does this work?

We all love people who are like us.

If you want someone to like you, by mimicking them, they subconsciously see you as someone

who has something in common with them and like you for being similar to them.

No. 3.

Compliment people Abraham Lincoln allegedly said, "I can live

on a good compliment for 3 months" It's a major human weakness that we love

to be appreciated.

We love to be complimented but we rarely get honest compliment so whenever we get one,

we reward the giver with love.

If you want to be liked by people, compliment their appearance, accomplishments or progress.

No. 4 Hurt people sometimes

Isn't this just the opposite of what we discussed in number three?

Here is it;

Nobody loves to be flattered.

Even though we may get angry at first, we all appreciate people who can tell us the

bitter truth.

According to the gain-loss theory of interpersonal attractiveness, your positive comments will

have more impact on people's emotion if you tell them the other side they don't

want to hear sometimes.

Here is an example.

If you always tell a lady that her clothe is beautiful, at a time she will know that

you're flattering her and your comment won't make much impact on her emotion again.

However if one day you tell her that her skirt doesn't fit her, though she'll not feel

good for that day, she will forever take your subsequent compliments as genuine

No. 5

Show warmth before competence

Harvard psychologist Amy Cuddy says that, especially in business settings, it's important

to demonstrate warmth first and then competence.

Your warmth attracts people to you while your competence makes them envy you.

You want them to like you first, so that they won't have the need to envy you so don't

show people how good you are, even if you're the best in such thing.

First show them how friendly and loving you are before you'll show them how competent

you are and they will like you and accept your competence as genuine.

No. 6 Be in a great mood

Everybody in the world is having enough headache and nobody wants more.

Because mood is contagious, people will rather like someone who is usually in great mood

than someone who is usually sad and depressed.

According to a research paper from the Ohio University and the University of Hawaii, people

can unconsciously feel the emotions of those around them.

Because I know your mood can affect mine, I'll not like you if you're usually sad

because I don't want to add more to the headaches I have in my personal life.

What's the way out?

Keep your problem inside your room because most people just don't care.

Only share your troubles with your close friends.

Let everyone else see you in great mood and they will like you the more.

No. 7

Discuss your shared values alone

According to a study, successful people are less likely to tell you what is in their mind.

They will rather discuss what you want to discuss.

Here's the math;

Human beings usually hate people who don't share their point of view.

How can you deal with that?

Stay at your shared values.

For example, if you have a friend whose opinion on politics is usually the same like yours

but against yours when it comes to religion, stop discussing religion with him.

Discuss politics and have nice time.

He will like you because he will think you're the same, even though you are not.

No. 8.

Casually touch people In a University of Mississippi and Rhodes

College experiment that studied the effects of interpersonal touch on restaurant tipping,

waitresses briefly touched customers on the hand or shoulder as they were returning their

change.

As it turns out, waitresses who touch people earned significantly larger tips than those

who didn't touch their customers.

This is known as subliminal touching, which occurs when you touch a person so subtly that

they barely notice.

Common examples include tapping someone's back or touching their arm, which can make

them feel more warmly toward you.

When you meet people, touch their arms, tap their backs etc. and they will feel so close

to you and love you in return.

No. 9.

Smile

In one study, about 100 women looked at photos of a woman in one of four poses: smiling in

an open-body position, smiling in a closed-body position, not smiling in an open-body position,

or not smiling in a closed-body position.

Results suggested that the woman in the photo was liked most when she was smiling, regardless

of her body position.

Be cheerful.

Wear your smile everywhere you go and people will like you.

No. 10.

Reveal your weaknesses from time to time If you know something to be your weakness,

make it public and you'll be loved for it because we're living in a world where most

people brand themselves as perfect individuals.

Take for example, most people will never say, "I don't know" if you ask them anything.

They would rather give senseless answers than to risk looking foolish.

According to the Pitfall effect, people will like you if you show them your weaknesses,

especially if they know you to be good in other things.

In summary, if you want people to like you everywhere you go;

Maintain great mood.

Smile Discuss only your shared values

Casually touch people Mirror Them

Tell people bitter truth sometimes Let people talk about themselves

Show warmth before competence Show your weaknesses to make you look human

Compliment people

How to Make Classic Chicken a la King | The Stay At Home Chef - Duration: 3:01.

Today on The Stay At Home Chef I'm showing you how to make Chicken a la King

This classic recipe is ready to make a comeback in your kitchen as an easy

weeknight dinner. To start melt 1/2 a cup of salted butter in a saucepan or

skillet over medium heat. Once that butters all melted add in 8

ounces of sliced mushrooms and we'll get those cooking. You want the mushrooms to

be fully cooked and soft which will take about five minutes. Then we'll sprinkle

in 1/2 a cup of all-purpose flour and you want to stir this in until there's

no more white specks and everything has combined with the butter and the liquid

from the mushrooms. Kind of looks gross but that's exactly what we're going for:

no more white specks. Then we'll pour in 2 cups of chicken broth and

1 1/2 cups of milk and bring this to a simmer. As the sauce comes to a simmer

the flour is going to act as a thickening agent and our sauce will

thicken. While we're waiting for that to happen in a small bowl we're gonna whisk

together two egg yolks with 1/3 a cup of heavy cream. This will make our sauce

nice and rich. Then we're gonna ladle up about 1/2 cup of that thickened

mixture and pour it in with our egg mixture and whisk this really quick. This

is called tempering your yolks and then we'll pour it back in with the

mixture/ We want to work quickly with this so that those eggs don't curdle and

cook. You want to stir it all in. Let that cook over low heat for 2 minutes then

pour in 1 cup of frozen peas, about 1 cup of drained pimentos, those are sold in a

can, and then you'll need 4 cups of cooked diced chicken. Stir this all in

You can use shredded rotisserie chicken for this, some leftover chicken or you

can just buy some chicken, saute it in a pan or pop it in the oven with a little

salt and pepper on it. You want to cook this all for just a few

it's more just long enough for everything to heat through and then

you're ready to eat! Chicken ala King is served up over rice or toast or biscuits

or pasta whatever your family likes the best.

Thanks for watching! You can find the full written recipe in the video description. Be sure to subscribe, like,

Great Ways to Make Holiday Money This Christmas Season - Duration: 16:02.

- Hey, Angie Nelson here, from theworkathomewife.com.

Can you believe it's fall already?

That is going to come as a surprise to many of us.

I know it did to me.

And one of the things that we need to start

thinking about here shortly

is that the holiday shopping season

is going to be upon us here soon.

And that can be a major point of stress for some of us

that are living on a budget,

or maybe we haven't done as much financial planning

over the last year as we would've liked

now that the time is quickly approaching.

So in today's video and in another video

that's going to be coming up here shortly on the channel,

we're going to be talking about some great ways

that you could make some extra money for

the holiday shopping season.

Whether you're in need of cash

because you'd like to do a little shopping,

or maybe the winter months mean that

your electricity bill's a little bit higher than normal.

Regardless of what the reason is

that you are in need of some extra cash,

we're going to be talking about some great ways

that you can make that happen.

Make sure you stay until the end of the video

so you can find out more about the great opportunities

we're talking about today,

in addition to some other great ways

that you can make money from home and on your own time.

Now that day that I am filming this video,

it's October 1st.

So the first opportunity we're going to be talking about today

is going to be some great work at home opportunities

as customer service representative.

Now the reason this one is going to be first on our list

is because a lot of these companies

are starting training this month,

some of them within the next few weeks.

So if you haven't already got your application

into these companies,

it's going to be something that needs

to get put on the top of your to-do list to do right away.

And of course, I'll leave you a link

in the description below to some great companies that,

that are known to be hiring at this time of the year.

But you're going to want to look into some companies

like Amazon, they frequently hire some temporary

seasonal customer service representatives,

as do companies like HSN, Wayfair, Williams-Sonoma.

Now even if customer service isn't at the top

of your work at home wishlist,

I want you to at least consider it

if you're in a crunch for some money,

and you need to get something going rather quickly.

As I said, a lot of these companies are going to be training

in the next few weeks,

so the application process can be a lot shorter

in some cases,

and many of these positions are going to be only temporary

at the get-go.

So that means that

while you may not want to do this, you know,

full time, year-round,

maybe you can make it work for just a couple of months

in order to get that,

get that cash flow coming in

while you're still applying

for some other work at home jobs.

And another bonus to these positions that many of us like,

is that they're going to be regular paydays.

It isn't going to be something that's really you know,

a long time before you get your first check,

or maybe the workflows there some days and not the next.

At this time of year, a lot of these companies

have a lot of hours available,

and they are going to pay you on a steady basis

whether that's weekly, biweekly, or monthly.

So like I said, I'll leave a link in the description below

for a list of companies that you can check out.

Now while we're talking about shopping,

let's talk about some of the ways

that you can make money shopping.

There are some great companies out there

like Instacart, or Shipt that'll pay you

to do the grocery shopping for someone else.

And the case of Instantcart, or excuse me, Instacart,

they do have two different kinds

of shopper positions available.

One is a full-service shopper,

and these are a lot more flexible usually in scheduling.

This person actually goes into the store,

does all the shopping, gets everything bagged up,

and then actually delivers the groceries

to the home of the customer.

Now obviously for that position,

you are going to need to have a reliable car.

If you don't, they also hire

some part-time in-store shoppers,

and those people aren't doing the deliveries.

They're just doing the shopping,

getting everything bagged up,

and then the customer may come into the store

and pick up their groceries themselves.

Now these can be nice little part-time gigs,

there's several people within my own community

that have said that they are doing these type of jobs

on the side in order to make some extra cash.

So, if you don't mind grocery shopping,

you know, you know your way around the store,

you know your way around produce,

this could be a great opportunity

for you to make a little extra cash.

Now while we're talking about driving,

we certainly can't overlook the opportunities

that are available out there for companies like

Uber or Lyft.

There are a lot of great opportunities like this

doing everything from chauffeuring customers around

to even just delivering packages.

We're seeing a lot of those type of opportunities come up

you know, with companies even like Amazon

that's hiring their own drivers now to deliver packages

with their Amazon Flex program.

So there's going to be some great gigs out there

that you'll want to look into.

I actually have a pretty lengthy post on my blog

The Work At Home Wife,

that really goes into some of the details that are,

that make each of these opportunities unique.

There's some things you certainly need to be aware of

with some you know,

that you may not have to worry about with others.

You're obviously going to need a reliable car

with any of these positions.

Now this time of year we are going to see

a bigger demand with these companies as well.

Whether you're talking about shipping,

the delivery companies like Amazon Flex,

they're going to have a larger demand for packages

that need delivered this time of year.

When you're talking about Uber or Lyft,

there's a lot of shoppers out there.

I know me and my husband when we are traveling

this time of year,

if we're going to a colder location,

we certainly don't want to be out walking.

So we will hire an Uber driver or a Lyft driver

to get us where we need to go

so that we're not out walking around in the weather.

And that's something that the shoppers

are going to be thinking about as well.

Or even those that are going to be frequenting

holiday parties or New Year's Eve parties,

that aren't going to want to be driving

after they're drinking.

So those are some things that you are

going to want to look into,

and as I said there's a great variety

if you do have a reliable vehicle,

and a valid driver's license,

there's a great variety there.

Even if you don't like the idea of having to chauffer

people around,

you can make money by delivering packages,

there are some great opportunities out there

to do food deliveries,

whether it's through GrubHub or Postmates

or opportunities like that.

These can be some great ways to pick up extra cash,

and one of the things that people really love

about these opportunities

is that they are really flexible.

With several of these companies,

you don't even need to have a set schedule

or even let them know when you're available

to work ahead of time.

If it's Saturday night and your plans got canceled,

you can just log into the app on your phone

and get to work.

Now since we just mentioned Amazon,

I wanted to remind you of the Amazon Trade-In Program.

If your motivation for making money this time of year

is going to be shopping,

you definitely want to take advantage

of some of these Trade-In opportunities that are out there.

If you don't want to take the time to list

some of the things you don't want anymore

on sites like Ebay or things like that

where there can be quite a bit of back and forth,

and you shipping products,

and getting payment from customers, things like that,

Amazon does have a Trade-In Program

where they will accept unwanted books,

electronics, DVDs and video games, among some other things.

And they'll let you know right away on the website

what they will give you for that trade-in

if it's in good condition.

Once you send it in,

Amazon will pay for the shipping,

they will go ahead and credit that money to your account

or you'll receive free Amazon gift cards.

And since Amazon carries just about everything,

it's a great way that you can get

some of your holiday shopping paid for.

Now if you're a person that kind of likes to do a little

pre-shopping before you do your shopping,

you may want to make some extra money

by picking up some mystery shops.

You can make some good money this time of year

as a secret shopper.

In most cases, what you're doing is

going into a store,

you might be checking the price of a product,

maybe you're seeing simply if the clerks at the store

are welcome you into the store,

and seeing if you need any assistance.

Each of these mystery shops will have a specific thing

that you are looking for.

Now I have a pretty lengthy list

of mystery shopping companies on my website

that we know to be legit,

you could also check out an app that's called Field Agent.

That will give you a list of available

task right on your phone.

Those will each tell you, you know,

what the flat rate is that you're going to be paid.

And you can go ahead and do everything you need

right from your smartphone.

Unlike some of the traditionally mystery shopping gigs

in years past where you had to go into this store,

you know, kind of remember what happened,

then come home and fill out the report on your computer.

Field Agent will let you do that

all right from your smartphone.

Now while we're talking about smartphones,

there are some great apps that you can use

to make extra cash.

One of my favorites is Ibotta,

it's an app that you load onto your phone

and it will allow you to earn some cash back

with your grocery shopping.

Before you head out to the store,

you can look and see what offers are available.

It will usually give you a specific amount of money back

for purchasing specific brands

or specific items at the grocery store.

When you get home, you just scan your receipt,

and that cash is usually back in your Ibotta account

within a couple of hours.

If not, 24 hours.

Once you hit the cash out threshold,

you can go ahead and get that money by PayPal.

Another app that's really popular among my community

is Swagbucks.

If you aren't familiar with this one,

it is a website that allows to earn some Swagbucks or SB

by doing various activities

whether that's watching videos,

doing surveys, shopping online,

there are a number of different things

that you can do that will allow you to earn these SB.

And those Swagbucks can then be redeemed for cash

or gift cards at some great online merchants.

Now many people in my community will just let these,

let these earnings roll throughout the year

and cash out their earnings at the end of the year

when it is time to do that holiday shopping.

Or maybe they'll just let it roll until it's,

an emergency arises and they do need that extra cash.

These are not going to be opportunities to pay your bills,

these apps.

They're simply going to be extra money makers

that you can do just during your free time,

whether it's as I said,

scanning a receipt when you get home

from the grocery store,

or maybe in the evening during commercial breaks

of your favorite television program

you're watching a few videos through Swagbucks,

or answering one of their surveys.

These are just things that don't require a lot of time,

but will allow you to monetize some of that free time

that you do have.

Now the last opportunity we are going to talk about

in this video,

is working on demand.

One of the main things that people in my community

are looking for when they are looking for

some ways to make extra money around the holidays,

is they don't want something that's going to

require an ongoing commitment.

They just want to make some extra money in their free time

during this few months that we have around the holidays.

Once that's over,

they just want to go back to their regular schedule.

So they don't really want anything

that's going to have that long-term commitment.

That's something that I mentioned

with some of those customer service jobs

in the first part of this video.

And working on demand is a great way to do that,

you can just kind of, pick up the gig

as you need the extra cash,

and as soon as you're done you can go about your business

without having to worry about an ongoing schedule.

Now we've talked about a few of these already,

Uber, Lyft, those are definitely something

that would fall into this on demand category.

You can also look around in your community

to see what other things are available.

There are some great apps like Rover or Wag

that are kind of in the pet sitting

or the pet walking industry.

You can check out TaskRabbit,

they will list different gigs

for a variety of different categories there.

And there are several different websites

that you can find these different gigs available.

You can also check out Craigslist,

you do, you know, there is some risk there always.

A lot of these apps, they are you know, doing some kind of a

verification process on both the buyers and sellers,

so there is kind of a little bit more safety net there

than there is on something like Craigslist.

But with Craigslist you can find some great one-off gigs

available as well,

especially when we're getting into things like

brand ambassadors or event staff.

A lot of companies will list those type of opportunities

on Craigslist.

Maybe you can make a a hundred bucks

by going and you know, being an event staff

at a concert one evening in your town.

Or if you are a town that has a big sporting event

that's going to be coming through,

a lot of them will hire

some type of short-term task

and often those will be listed on Craigslist.

You'll just want to make sure that all of the details

are going to be in writing,

even if that's just email as far as what you're paid,

when you're going to be paid,

who you're going to be working for,

those type of things.

So make sure that those things are all in writing,

just to kind of give yourself some kind of,

kind of a safety net there.

Now those are just a few of my favorite ways

that you can make some extra money this time of year.

In the description below,

I'm going to leave you a lot of links

to several different posts that are on my website,

some different websites

that you are going to want to check out

for some more information on these opportunities

and then some.

There are a lot of great opportunities out there,

so give yourself some time to go through and see

where your skill set

is best matched to what opportunities

and what opportunities are really going to allow you

to earn what you're worth,

because that's always something

that we need to keep in mind too

when we are looking into some of these

extra money opportunities.

If it's going to require a lot of your time

and your brain power,

you're going to want to make sure

that you're compensated accordingly.

So check out the description below,

and make sure that you are subscribed to my channel.

As I said, I'll be doing a couple more of these videos

with some great extra money earners

for the holiday season.

So make sure that you are subscribed

so you'll get notification of the next video.

And if you have any great holiday money makers,

I'd love for you to leave me a comment

and let me know.

The community is always looking for some great new ways

to make money,

and they would love for you to share your ideas as well.

Until next time, I wish you best of luck

in finding some great money making opportunities.

How To Make Turquoise Pearl Earrings: Jewelry Tutorial - Duration: 10:44.

To make the earrings you'll need to freshwater pearls that are potato shaped, 12 turquoise seed beads,

two pieces of 26 gauge wire. We're using gold wire and it's 4 inches long, each piece.

Two head pins that are gold.

Two earring wires also gold. And then for tools you need round-nose pliers and wire cutters.

To make each earring you're going to start with a four inch piece of 26 gauge wire and

what we're going to do is make a little circle in the middle of our wire using our round-nose pliers.

I'm going to place the wire so it's up near the top part of the

round-nose pliers because that's where its fattest and I want to make kind of a big loop and

I'm just going to pull the wire around

on both sides, like that,

to make a loop there in

our wire and now what we want to do is feed on six of our seed beads.

And this is going to make a little bit of a flower design at the top of our earring.

So I'm just going to feed on six of our seed beads.

And we like these seed beads, this style of seed bead is sort of cut flat on the ends.

It's not rounded and we just like how they sit on the wire next to each other.

It makes for a really pretty design.

And we chose 26 gauge wire for this because we're doing a little bit of wire wrapping and the wire wrapping

is a lot easier with thinner wire and 26 gauge wire is a pretty thin wire.

So that's one two three four five beads.

Here's our sixth seed bead.

So we've got all of our seed beads on there and I'm going to just sort of take my little

crisscross of my wires and crisscross a little bit more to make that

circle a little bit smaller so that it fits so the beads sort of make a circle. And

now I want to make a little wrapped loop in the top of my circle and to do that

I'm going to use my round-nose pliers

to just sort of make a bend and one of the wires.

It's like a 90 degree bend next to one of the beads like that. And

now I can take the other wire and wrap it around

that neck of the other

wire

and

I'm gonna just wrap wrap wrap

loosely with this wire, like that.

You'll make it just like a little bit of a messy, a messy wrap.

We like how that looks.

That's good. I'm going to trim we'll end because it's getting a little hard to wrap it around.

And

with this other end, I'm gonna make a loop with my round-nose pliers.

I'm going to do that just by bending the wire so it's got a 90 degree bend in it.

Take my round-nose pliers and grasp where that bend is and I'm going to pull the wire up and over that jaw,

the top jaw of my pliers, reposition my pliers to the bottom of my jaws are in the loop and pull

the wire around to make a loop. And now I'm going to wrap the loop by grasping across the loop like that and

pulling the wire around.

And I'm just going to wrap that some more like that.

We'll get a nice big messy wrap here.

It looks artsy.

Now I'm going to trim the wire with my wire cutters,

like that.

And now we've got a little flower

made out of our turquoise beads. And I'm gonna set that aside and

make our little pearl dangle.

To do that. I'm going to start with a head pin,

take one of my potato-shaped freshwater pearls and slide that on and now I'm going to make a wrapped loop. And to do that

I'm going to do kind of what I just did.

It's a little bit similar. I'm going to use my round-nose pliers. I'm going to grasp the wire right above that potato-shaped

freshwater pearl,

bend the wire 90 degrees toward me, like that.

I'm going to reposition the pliers so they're at the top of that 90 degree bend, like that. And

then take the end of the wire and pull it so it goes up and over the top jaw of my pliers.

I'm going to reposition the pliers so the bottom jaw is in the loop and I'm going to pull the wire around

to make a nice round loop,

like that. And

now before I wrap the loop, like if I was making a normal wrap loop, I would just wrap it now.

But instead I'm going to slide this

flower into the loop. And what I want to do is make sure that I've got

three beads on either side of where this loop on our dangle is going to sit.

I'll show you what I mean. There we go.

So you can see I slid the loop of my bead dangle

onto the flower and I've got three turquoise beads on one side and three on the other. And

now I can wrap that loop. And to do that I'm going to grasp the loop across

using my round-nose pliers, and I'm going to pull the tail around

to wrap the loop. And I'm going to wrap it as, a bunch of times again to make another little messy wrap.

It'll kind of echo what we did at the top. And this wire of the head pin's a little bit harder than the other wire,

so it's a little bit more of a challenge.

You can always use chain-nose pliers to pull it around if you want.

Or you can just go as far as you can and then either trim the end or mash it down

with a pair of pliers. I'm going to just trim the end,

like that.

And now we've got our little earring and we can just feed it on to our earring wire.

The loop is kind of already open there.

Like that. And now I'm going to use my round-nose pliers. Just press the loop closed a little bit more.

And we've got one earring done and now we'll do the same technique to make the second earring.

So I'm going to use my round-nose pliers to

make a flat or make the circle in the middle of my wire by criss crossing the wires over

the top jaw at its fattest point. I've got my little circle.

I'll feed on the rest of the seed beads. There's six left. So this will be my other

last six seed beads to make my flower.

So we've got our six beads on there and I'm going to do what I did before which is make a little wrapped, a

sort of wrapped loop, by bending one of the wires ninety degrees like that.

And taking the other wire and I'm just gonna pull it around

to make a big messy wrap at the top of our beaded flower here,

like that.

It's really fun working with this 26-gauge wire because it's so malleable you can really,

you can really wrap it like crazy. There we go. I'm going to trim that little end.

And if you have any ends sticking up when you're done

you can always use a pair of chain-nose pliers to mash it down or you can use your round-nose pliers.

I'm going to see if I can

flatten that one down a little bit because it's sticking up a little bit. We don't want it poking.

There we go. And now we're gonna make a wrapped loop at the top of the wire there by making a 90-degree bend,

like that. And then using our round-nose pliers to grasp the wire at the bend,

pull the wire up and over that top jaw as far as it'll go,

then reposition the pliers so the bottom jaw of the pliers is in the loop.

Pull the loop all the way around and

then we're going to wrap the loop by grasping the wire across the loop. I mean across. And

then

wrapping the rest of the wire around. And I'm just going to wrap right over

what I did before to make my big messy wrap.

And then I'm going to trim the end.

There's our other little circle flower circle there and

we're ready to do our bead dangle with our pearl.

So we've got our head pin and our potato shaped

freshwater pearl and

we're ready to make a wrap loop in the top. So we're going to grasp the wire above the pearl,

bend the wire 90 degrees,

reposition the pliers to the top of that bend, pull the wire up and over the top jaw as far as it'll go.

Reposition the pliers so the bottom jaw is in the loop and pull the wire around.

And now I want to feed that onto my little flower and make sure that the loop is nestled in between

in between the three beads, so there are three beads on either side. This part a little bit tricky, just kind of manhandle it.

Get them in there. Nope. That's the wrong spot. Let me move it over bead. There we go. That's the right spot. And

now we can wrap this loop. And to do that

I'm going to grasp the loop across and pull the tail of the headpin wire around the neck and

do another big messy wrap and

then I can just trim the end. Got a

little bit of a sticky outie wire there.

And

then we can just feed that on to our earring wire and

nestle it down

into the earring wire loop and

press it closed. And now we've got a pretty pair of turquoise and pearl earrings.

Did the global response to 9/11 make us safer? | Benedetta Berti - Duration: 7:48.

Almost 20 years have passed since 9/11.

It is time to take stock of where we stand

and stop and think.

It is time to ask ourselves,

have the assumptions and policies

we developed in the wake of those tragic events

truly made us more secure?

Have they made our societies, both in Europe and in the United States,

more resilient?

I've worked all my life in the field of security and defense,

and I am convinced that now, more than ever,

we need to radically reframe the way we think and act about security,

and especially about international security.

By international security, I actually mean what we do,

how we prepare our countries

to better respond and prevent external threats,

and how we protect our citizens.

The key to both

is to focus on protecting civilians,

both in our own countries

and in those where we are present in the name of security.

Now, this idea goes against the fixed narrative

that we developed over the past 20 years

over what security is and how to get it,

but that narrative is flawed, and worse, it is counterproductive.

Over the past 20 years,

both in the United States and in Europe,

we've come to accept that we must talk about security in zero sum terms,

as if the only way to gain more security is by compromising on values and rights:

security versus human rights,

safety versus freedom and development.

This is a false opposition.

It just doesn't work like that.

We need to recognize

that security and human rights are not opposite values,

they are intrinsically related.

After all, the most basic human right

is the right to live and to be free from violence,

and a state's most basic responsibility

is to guarantee that right for its citizens.

Conversely, if we think about communities all over the world

affected by war and conflict,

it is insecurity and violence

that stops them from achieving their full freedom and development.

Now, they need basic security just as much as we do

and they need it so they can live a normal life

and so that they can enjoy their human rights.

This is why we need to shift.

We need to acknowledge that sustainable security

builds on a foundation of human rights,

builds on promoting and respecting human rights.

Also, over the past two decades,

we have accepted that the best way to guarantee our own security

is by defeating our enemies,

and to do that, we need to rely almost exclusively on the military.

Again, this clashes with my work, with my research,

with what I see in the field.

What I see is that building sustainable security

has a lot less to do with crushing enemies,

has a lot less to do with winning on the battlefield,

and has a lot more to do with protecting victims

and building stability.

And to do that, well, the military alone

is simply insufficient.

This is why I believe we need to shelve the never-ending War on Terror,

and we need to replace it with a security agenda

that is driven by the principle of protecting civilians,

no matter where they are from, what passport they hold,

or where they live:

Vancouver, New York,

Kabul, Mosul, Aleppo or Douma.

Sustainable security tells us that we're more likely

to have long-term security at home for ourselves

if we focus our engagements abroad on protecting civilians

and on ensuring their lives are lived in dignity and free from violence.

For example, we all know that defeating ISIS

is a security achievement.

Absolutely.

But rebuilding destroyed homes,

restoring order,

ensuring a representative political system,

these are just as, if not more important,

and not just for the security of civilians in Iraq and in Syria,

but for our own security and for global stability.

More fundamentally,

ISIS's danger should not just be counted in the number of weapons it holds

but also in the number of children it has kept out of school

or indoctrinated.

This is from a security perspective.

From a security perspective,

the long-term generational impact of having millions of children in Syria

growing up knowing only war and out of school,

this is a far more dangerous threat to stability

than all of ISIS's weapons combined,

and we should spend just as much time and just as much energy to counter this

as what we spend when countering ISIS militarily.

Over the past two decades, our security policy has been short-term.

It has focused on the here and now.

It has systematically downplayed the link between what we do today

in the name of security

and the long-term impact of those choices.

In the years after 9/11,

some of the choices,

some of the policies we've implemented

have probably made us less, not more secure in the long term.

Sustainable, civilian-centered security

needs to look at what happens in the long term.

Again, for example,

relying on drones to target enemies in faraway countries may be a tool.

It may be a tool to make sure or to lessen the threat

of an imminent attack on the United States.

But what about the long-term impact?

If civilians are killed,

if communities are targeted,

this will feed a vicious circle

of war, conflict, trauma and radicalization,

and that vicious circle is at the center of so many of the security challenges

we face today.

This will not make us safer in the long term.

We need civilian security,

we need sustainable civilian-centered security,

and we need it now.

We need to encourage thinking and research around this concept,

and to implement it.

We live in a dangerous world.

We have many threats to peace and conflict.

Much like in the days after 9/11,

we simply cannot afford not to think about international security.

But we have to learn the lessons of the past 20 years.

To get it right, to get security right,

we need to focus on the long term.

We need to focus on protecting civilians.

And we need to respect and acknowledge the fact

that sustainable security builds on a foundation of human rights.

Otherwise, in the name of security,

we risk leaving the world

a far more dangerous and unstable place

than what we already found it in.

Thank you.

(Applause)
