We are another week closer to the playoffs or to the end of the season.
It could go either way for a few of our Mesquite ISD teams.
Welcome to the Pre Game Show.
I'm Ted Madden.
The Poteet Pirates are on track to make the playoffs for the 7th year in a row.
Against Wylie East, the Pirates scored a touchdown on three of their first four offensive plays;
this is the one that wasn't a touchdown.
Dalton Dale goes 68 yards to the 8-yard line.
Next time they had the ball, Cam Lampkin ran even farther after taking the little shovel
pass 73 yards.
That made it 21-7 Poteet.

A few plays later, the defense got on the board when Jalen Hodo picked off a pass and
took it back to the house – 48 yards on that play.
Poteet began taking starters out in the 2nd quarter, and for the sixth time in 7 games,
every player on the roster got to play.
I think it's important.
I think it's something that they deserve.
There are a lot of games that you can't play everybody, but when you can, it's nice
to get those opportunities, and I think you should do it when you can.
And for us, we always want to play deep into the playoffs, so we'd love to play 13, 14,
15, 16 weeks.
And if you're doing that, you need to stay healthy.
You need kids fresh.
West Mesquite was down by two touchdowns to McKinney North, but that changed as quickly
as it took Jamal Clemons to return the 2nd half kickoff 89 yards.
It was 38-30 at that point.
The Wranglers scored one more time in the final minute on a 11-yard run from Neal Johnson,
but lost to McKinney North 52-37.
So the Wranglers are 2-4 entering their rivalry game with Poteet, which has won six games
in a row.
These two met in the final week of the 2017 season, and Pirates running back Seth
McGowan had 37 carries for nearly 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.
District 7-5A division I looks like this:
Poteet and John Tyler are tied for first at 3-0.
3-1 McKinney North plays at John Tyler this week in a big game.
West Mesquite is in 5th place at 1-2.
North Mesquite fell to 3-3 on the season after losing to Rockwall.
The highlight of the game for the Stallions was an interception return by Kevion Curry
in the 2nd quarter.
Jawuan Clark made the most of his five carries with 86 yards, including this 61-yarder.
But it was a long night for the Stallions, who lost to the Yellow Jackets 44-10.
It doesn't get any easier this week when North travels to Longview to play the sixth-ranked
team in Texas.
After this one, the Stallions wrap up the regular season against Mesquite Horn and Rockwall-Heath.
The Jaguars come off their bye without any wins but with some hope.
This week's game against Rockwall-Heath begins a three-game stretch of winnable games,
so it's still possible Horn makes the playoffs.
But they need to win this week.
Here's what the standings look like in 11-6A: Longview the clear favorite to win district
at 3-0.
Mesquite and Rockwall are tied for 2nd place at 3-1.
North and Tyler Lee are tied for the final playoff spot at 1-2.
