Youtube daily which Feb 1 2017

Hi I'm Sophie and welcome to my world

you know a lot of people ask me what

kind of work surface is best when you're

doing duct tape so i wanted to go over a

few little things that I've learned

about my work surfaces and share them

with you

so the first thing i want to tell you is

you can get these very thin very

inexpensive these are just these

flexible sort of cutting mats these are

not great you can see

how that flexes because what happens is

you will easily cut through with an

exacto knife you can see that right

there that's just for one or two uses

its already cut through so you do not

use the flexible ones if you're going to

go for a cheaper brands like a dollar

store brand make sure you get one of

these rigid ones now these are fine

these are completely fine when I do my

big workshops where I have you know

like 50 kids and they'll all be

needing a work surface i use these

because I can't afford to buy the fisker

ones which i'm going to show you in just

a second but as you can see it's a

little it's got flex but it's a little

sturdier it's a little thicker and you

won't be able to cut through this and

these are fine and the last a good long

time they'll usually last about at least

a year before they get too scarred up

now what I would recommend if you can

get them in your area is Fiskar brand and

there's other brands too and they're all

pretty much exactly the same i

think exacto makes a brand there's a

whole bunch of other different brands

out there basically they are

a work surface mat and what you want to

get is a self-healing mat and it will

say that on there self healing

they devised these and created these

years and years and years ago when

people started using rotary cutters for

fabric and what happened with duct tapers

is they realized that that was a perfect

surface for them to use a exacto knife

on so that's why these surfaces have

become very very popular my suggestion

to you is to get these when you can get

a coupon on sale so like jo-ann fabric

Michaels they always always always have

coupons so go on their website

you can find find out whatever their

deal of the day kind of thing is

but like Michaels you can usually get a

forty percent off one item and a lot of

the times with JoAnn's it's the same

thing so if you go you're gonna find

that these run anywhere from depends on

where you live but they'll run

anywhere from like US$15.99 for something

that this size but then you can get into

these bigger sizes like this size here

and even this size here which is my

personal favorite I love this size this

is the 18 x 24 this

size is the size that i find is easiest

to move around take with me

it's also it's a great size for working

with my duct tape projects so i got

an 18 by 24 they make them even

bigger like 36 x 48 they even make them

bigger than that i believe but anyway

this will run you about twenty dollars

so if you can get a coupon for like

forty percent off you can save yourself

a good goodly amount of money you can

get it for like twelve to fifteen bucks

so that would be my suggestion for you

so work surface you always want

to make sure that you take care of them

don't store them in this position

especially if they're big like this

don't store them in an upright position

because what happens is they will start

to take on this bending can you see how

that has like a bendy quality you don't

want that so store your work surfaces

flat you can put them under your bed put

something you know on top of that you

know that's fine but just make sure that

you're storing it flat don't store it on

its side and that is what I have to tell

you about work surfaces if you've got

ideas about your work surfaces that you

want to send me make sure you put them

in the comments below because i always

love hearing what you know what you the

audience use and appreciate and like the

other thing one quick thing don't use

wood like a wooden cutting board

it's going to get scarred up so quickly

that your tape is just going to stick to

it and it's just going to get destroyed

so don't use wood stick to something

that is a self-healing mat that's my tip

for you for more ideas

and what to do with your duct tape and

how to make it to last longer time or

easier to work with coming check us out

Which Locks Your Phone Best: Pins, Patterns or Passwords? - Duration: 3:31.

I don't keep a passcode on my phone, I just make my life too boring to hack.

Hey iPhone Addicts, Jules here for Dnews!

It's 2017, and passwords are soooo passé!

It goes without saying that our phones have become our main confidants, and the information

on them; sacrosanct.

In the last few years, we've seen countless variations on phone security, and new authentication

methods on the part of companies like Android and Apple.

Things like fingerprint scanning, encrypted passcodes, even complex patterns that have

to be inputted to gain access into the device.

But technology researchers will soon present a scary reality at the Network and Distributed

System Security Symposium of 2017.

They used covertly taken video of someone using Pattern Lock on their Android device

and paired it with computer vision algorithm software, which was then able to produce the

correct pattern within just five attempts.

The software was able to do this by tracking the victim's fingertips, from as far as

2 and a half meters away.

So, if you thought Pattern Lock was safer than a passcode, maybe it isn't.

Plus, most people don't use difficult to guess patterns or passcodes, making the job

of cracking them even easier.

Some security analysts suggest that the method of locking is less important than using multiple

encryption.

Most phones have an option where after a certain limited number of attempts, the phone locks

itself down until you can get it to a computer for validation, or it simply wipes the device

clean.

But even this encryption can be subverted by making multiple copies of the phone's

software.

So maybe the solution is to have a better password than just a four digit number of

nine-point pattern.

A four digit pin has about 10,000 possible combinations, a four-to-nine-point pattern

has closer to 400,000 combinations, but if you use an actual, alphanumeric password,

the number of options increases exponentially.

Even if you use a five-character alphanumeric password, with 90 different character options,

you'll end up with almost six billion different combinations.

That's pretty secure.

But of course, if someone sees you input your password, whether it be a camera, or just

someone looking over your shoulder, your security is gone altogether.

So what about fingerprint scanning?

That's safe, right?

Well, for starters, your fingerprint isn't really protected.

As we've talked about before on DNews, a number of companies have shown that fingerprint

unlocking can be done using 3D printed prints.

In 2013, a hacking group called the Chaos Computer Club took a photograph of a fingerprint,

laser printed it, poured rubber over the pattern, and was able to use this mold to unlock a

phone.

And of course, there's the less scientific method of just knocking you out and pressing

your thumb against the phone.

And legally, a fingerprint is not even considered a "password".

That might seem obvious, but an important example is if you are arrested and the police

want to go through your phone.

The Fifth Amendment says that you cannot be compelled to provide self-incriminating evidence,

like a password, but according to a court in Virginia, your fingerprint is not incriminating

information.

Other biometric ideas are in the works to help keep phones secure, and may one day be

standard on all phones.

It's already possible to recognize a designated person using their heart-rate, their vein

pattern under the skin, even by the iris and retina in the eye.

For now, it may just be a good idea to keep sensitive data off your phone.

If you want to know more about how phones can be hacked, check out this video here.

So that's hacking your phone, but did you know you can hack your body and implant technology

in it?

Our friends at Zoetic cover that in this video, here.

And what do you guys use?

A pattern? a pin? a password?

Your fingerprint?

Top 10 Things Which Make People Exceptional - Duration: 4:42.

Top 10 Things Which Make People Exceptional

People are unusual creatures by any stretch of the imagination.

Our unique skills, from large brains to opposable thumbs, have let us change our world to the

way it is now and even leave the earth into space.

In addition, there are strange things about us that are, well, in somwewhat way we can't

be compared to the remaining part of the animal kingdom.

So what just makes us exceptional?

Some things we take utterly for granted might surprise you.

1.

Language

Actually, the larynx, or voice box, sits lower in the throat in humans than in chimps, this

is one of several features that allow us to speak freely.

Human ancestors evolved a descended larynx around 350,000 years past.

Not only we can speak freely, we also able to articulate words when speaking.

2.

Nakedness

We appear nude in comparison with our more hairy ape cousins.

However, every inch of our skin on average possesses as much hair-producing follicles

as any other primates, humans often just have thinner, shorter, and lighter hairs.

Well, this is an interesting fact about hair: it seemingly helps us find parasites, according

to one study, Even though we do not appear to have much.

3.

Clothes

Well, you may call us "naked apes," but most of us is wearing clothes, that is one of the

fact that we can't be compared in the animal kingdom.

Well, let's save for the clothing we make for other animals.

The development of clothing has even influenced the evolution of other species, the body louse,

unlike all other kinds, clings to clothing, not hair.

4.

Upright Posture

People are unique in walking completely upright is our primary form of locomotion among the

primates.

This frees upwards our hands for using tools.

Sadly, the changes in conjunction with infants with big brains, makes human childbirth very

dangerous compared with the remaining portion of the animal kingdom.

A century ago, childbirth was a top cause of death for girls.

5.

Hands

Contrary to popular misconceptions, people aren't the sole creatures to possess opposable

thumbs.

We may also bend small fingers and the ring toward the bottom of our thumb.

This provides people special dexterity and a strong grasp to hold and manipulate tools

with our hands.

6.

Amazing Brains

Undeniably, the human characteristic that sets us aside the most from the animal kingdom

is our brain that is amazing.

Yet the human brain, weighing just about 3 pounds when fully grown, give us the capability

to reason and think beyond the abilities of the remainder of the animal kingdom on our

feet, and supplied the works of Einstein, Mozart and a number of other prodigies.

7.

Long Youths

The inquiry then becomes when it may make more evolutionary awareness to grow as rapidly

as possible to get more offspring.

The explanation could be our big brains, which need quite a long time learn and to grow.

8.

Fire

The heat of the fires additionally helped people remain warm in cold weather, empowering

us to live in cooler regions.

We have the ability to control fire, actually this is the one who helped our ancestors to

see in a night dark world and keep nocturnal predators at bay.

It also gave us cooking, made our food tastier and healthy.

9.

Blushing

Well, people are the sole species known to blush, a behaviour Darwin called "the most

unusual and the most human of all expressions."

It remains unclear why we blush, involuntarily showing our innermost emotions, we do understand

the way that it works though.

The frequently encountered notion is the fact that blushing helps keep people honest, helping

the group as a whole.

10.

Life after their Kids

Most creatures reproduce till they expire, but in people, females can live long after

stopping reproduction.

This could be because of the societal bonds found in people, grandparents can help ensure

the success of their families after they can have kids.
