her career by working for an advertisement agency in the client servicing department
in Mumbai.
She also worked for Hungama TV for some time.

appreciation for her.
The show ended in 2011.
Kratikas success did not stop with Jhansi ki rani and her career has been scaling new
heights since then.
She has also played the lead roles in two more successful shows Punar Vivah and Kasam
Tere Pyaar Ki.
Her appearance as a single mother in Punar Vivah on Zee TV opposite Gurmeet Choudhary
became really popular and she received several awards for her performance.
Her role as Tanu opposite Sharad Malhotra in Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki on Colors is also being
highly appreciated.
In between her lead roles, Kratika has appeared in shows like Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil,
Aahat, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas...Veera and Service Wali Bahu.

Young Adult, Formerly in Foster Care: This Is My Family, Where I Call Home - Duration: 3:29.
♪ ♪
I went into the system with my two older brothers
and then one of my younger sisters
who's only a year younger than me.
So, growing up in that system,
you understand the negatives, the positives.
And then aging out of that system,
you want to make a difference for those
that are younger than you.
I also had a foster family that really believed in me,
and I lived there for 14 years.
And that's very unheard of in the foster care system as well,
to have that ability to say hey,
this is my family and this is where I call home
and I know that I'm going to be sleeping here tonight
and I know that I'm going to sleep here
in six months from now and three years from now,
and I know that when I graduate from high school,
I'm going to have a graduation party
and I don't have to worry about somebody
putting my clothing in a garbage bag and saying
hey, you're 18 now, you got to figure out where you're going.
A forever family to me is a family
that you can call at any time
and they pick up the phone in the middle of the night
and they're there for you.
Normalcy for me was not having to tell my story.
When I was in high school,
I remember being petrified of telling people
that I was in care
because I had grown up in that same home for so long
that people, they just thought that I lived there,
and that's how my life was.
And I remember being so afraid of having to tell them,
you know, that I was in care,
because there's that stigma that if you're in care,
you know, you're a juvenile justice kid.
You're a kid that got in trouble,
and that's why you're there,
even though I had been there my whole life.
As a former special needs adoption social worker,
you really start to understand the importance
of relationships for youth.
Even if they're tiny, tiny relationships
and let's say that the youth has only been in that home
for a month,
but there's someone in that home
that they really built that connection with,
you want to try to sustain that
throughout their entire time in care
because that relationship, once they leave,
could really be something powerful.
So normalcy to me is having those relationships,
not having to put myself out there as a foster child
until I am comfortable with my story
and decide to share that part of my story.
Having a place to call home
and people to go home to for holidays,
Christmas, Thanksgiving,
people to move me into a dorm,
people to call in the middle of the night
when I have a question about something
and I have no clue what I'm doing.
So, I think to facilitate normalcy within relationships,
within the child welfare system
we really need to do a better job
of training our foster parents.
A lot of times foster parents
that come in expecting to work with an older population
don't understand all of the challenges
and ways to treat that population normally.
You know, so if you have other youth that are in your home,
let's say they're 10 years old and then you have a 16-year-old,
what's normal for that 10-year-old
might not be normal for that 16-year-old.
When you go in as a foster parent
saying you're going to work with older youth
and you have that in-depth training,
you know what you're in for.
You know the struggles.
You're willing to build that stronger relationship too.

YMCA Family Fit Program | Connecting Point | Jan. 23, 2017 - Duration: 6:39.
>> OBESITY IS A BIG PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY, IMPACTING ONE IN
SIX CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENCE, THE SCANTIC VALLEY YMCA IN
WILBRAHAM IS OFFERING A NEW PROGRAM CALLED "FAMILY FIT" TO
HELP PARENTS AND KIDS LEARN ABOUT MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES IN
DIET AND EXERCISE.
CAROLEE MCGRATH SPOKE WITH MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR RYAN WINDYKA
AND SCOTT BERG, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE YMCA OF THE GREATER
SPRINGFIELD REGION TO GET THE STORY.
>> WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO OFFER THIS NEW PROGRAM INTRODUCING IT
TO OUR YMCA, CALLED WHY FAMILY FIT.
WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WORKING WITH LOCAL DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS TO
BRING IN FAMILIES TO PARTICIPATE IN HEALTHY LIFESTYLES.
SO WHAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON IS GETTING KIDS IN WITH THEIR
FAMILIES, AND TO PARTICIPATE IN HEALTHY PRACTICES, AS WELL AS
NUTRITIONAL ADVICE.
SO WE WANT TO SHOW KIDS THAT EXERCISE CAN BE FUN, SO THAT
THEY ARE NOT JUST DOING VIDEO GAMES, AND THEY ARE NOT JUST
SITTING AT HOME.
WE WANT THEM TO BE ENGAGED WITH THEIR FAMILY, AND WE FEEL LIKE
HAVING THEM HERE AT THE YMCA IN THE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT IS GOING
TO BE BENEFICIAL FOR THEM.
>> SO I THINK THE INTERESTING THING IS THAT YOU ARE WORKING
WITH THE DOCTORS IN THE AREA, NUTRITION I WASES AND SOMETHING
THAT I HAVE HEARD A LOT FROM DOCTORS IS THE GROWING OBESITY
PROBLEM, AND KIDS, MORE KIDS BECOMING AT RISK TO BEING OBESE
AT SOME POINT.
SO THAT'S A REALLY NEAT THING TO INTRODUCE, IS SOMETHING THAT'S
IMPORTANT TO YOU TO MAKE SURE THAT THE FAMILIES ARE GETTING
THAT EXERCISE, AND QUALITY TIME I GUESS, AS WELL.
>> YEAH, THE YMCA, COLLECTIVELY, WEFL THREE PROGRAM THRUSTS,
HEALTHY LIVING AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND RYAN AND I
WERE JUST TALKING, IT'S REALLY UNIQUE TO HAVE A PROGRAM THAT
FITS ALL THREE.
SO THAT'S REALLY WHERE OUR FOCUS IS.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THE FAMILY IS TOGETHER AND FUN AND WE WANT
TO MAKE SURE IT'S HEALTHY AND WE LIKE KIDS TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE
HAVING A GREAT TIME, AND TO SHARE WITH OUR YMCA, WE'RE THE
FOURTH OLDEST WESTMINSTER WEATHER DEPARTMENT IN THE WORLD
SO WE'VE BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME AND THE Y'S HAVE GONE FROM
HOUSING TO PHYSICAL FITNESS TO WHAT PEOPLE THINK IS GYM AND
SWIM AND WHAT WE'RE DOING NOW IS MORE AND MORE IN THE MEDICAL
AREA WORKING ON DIABETES PREVENTION AND ON CANCER
PROGRAMS AND THIS JUST FITS RIGHT INTO THAT THRUST
NATIONALLY.
>> AND I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I REMEMBER AS A CHILD IS
WALKING INTO THE GYM.
THIS IS 100 YEARS AGO, WALKING INTO LIKE ONE OF THOSE GYMS THAT
WERE OPEN AND JUST BEING TOTALLY INTIMIDATED BY THE MACHINES AND
THE WEIGHTS AND THE PEOPLE IN THERE.
HOW DO YOU MAKE THE KIDS UNDERSTAND THAT THIS DOES NOT
HAVE TO BE SCARY AND CAN BE FUN, AND YOU CAN FEEL FANTASTIC AFTER
30 MINUTES ON THE TREADMILL.
HOW DO YOU BRING THEM IN?
>> WE DO PRIDE OURSELVES ON BEING A VERY WELCOMING
ENVIRONMENT.
SO WE DON'T EVER WANT KIDS OR ADULTS OR FAMILIES TO FEEL LIKE
THEY ARE INTIMIDATED ABOUT COMING TO THE Y.
WE'RE ALL-INCLUSIVE SO WE SERVE A WIDE RANGE OF AGE GROUPS, AND
CLIENTELE, AS WELL.
BY BRINGING THEM INTO THE Y WE WANT THEM TO HAVE FUN, AND
THAT'S THE BIGGEST THING, IS NOBODY WANTS TO GO ON A
TREADMILL AND RUN FOR A HALF-HOUR.
THAT'S NOT FUN.
WE WANT THE STAFF -- >> IT'S NOT?
>> IT'S REALLY NOT.
SO OUR JOB HERE AS THE Y PROFESSIONALS IS TO MAKE SURE
THAT THE KIDS DON'T SEE IT AS EXERCISE, BUT THEY SEE IT AS A
WAY OF LIFE.
AND THAT WHEN THEY COME TO THE Y, IT'S FUN.
IT'S NOT WORKING OUT, IT'S ENGAGEMENT WITH OUR STAFF AND
THEIR FAMILIES AND WHEN WE PICKED THE NAME OF THE PROGRAM
WE MADE SURE WE ADDED FAMILY.
THAT'S AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO.
>> EVEN FOR PARENTS, THOUGH, WHO ARE LIKE GOING ON, YOU KNOW, A
NEW DIET OR SOME SORT OF AN EXERCISE KICK, AND THEN THEY GO
HOME AND THERE IS COOKIES AND EVERYTHING AND THE SPOUSE IS NOT
SUPPORTING THEM, IT CAN BE REALLY HARD AND IT CAN DERAIL
ANY GOOD INTENTIONS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE, AND I WOULD ASSUME
THE SAME GOES FOR CHILDREN, THEY ARE TRYING TO DWELL BUT MOM IS
PULLING OUT THE BAG OF POTATO CHIPS, NOT THAT I HAVE EVER DONE
THAT, BUT IT CAN BE HARD.
>> THAT'S WHAT'S NICE, THE CHILDREN ARE RECEIVING THE
ACTIVITY, PARENTS ARE RECEIVING THE EDUCATION AT THE SAME TIME.
A LOT OF TIMES AS FAMILIES YOU END UP DROPPING OFF THE CHILDREN
AND RUNNING AROUND AND DOING ERRANDS, AND THIS ONE YOU ARE
ENGAGED IN LEARNING AT THE SAME TIME, AND THE OTHER MAJOR PART
OF THE Y THAT'S, THAT'S WONDERFUL, IS THAT IT'S OPEN TO
EVERYBODY, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY IN FULL, SO IT DOES NOT
MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY.
IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT WE'RE HERE FOR YOU AND WE HAVESHIPS,
AND LAST YEAR WE GAVE AWAY 754,000 IN FINANCIAL AID SO
THAT'S WHAT WE PRIDE OURSELVES, BEING A NONPROFIT AND TO PROFIT
AND REFLECT THE COMMUNITY.
>> FOR THAT CHILD, WHO MIGHT BE DEALING WITH A WEIGHT PROBLEM,
WHO MIGHT NOT BE ATHLETIC, HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE THAT KID THAT
HEY, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOUR ABILITY IS BUT WHEN YOU
LEAVE HERE, AFTER 30 MINUTES, YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL BETTER
ABOUT YOURSELF, AND YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOUR
OUTLOOK IN GENERAL.
HOW DO YOU REACH OUT TO THOSE KIDS?
>> I THINK IT'S JUST ABOUT HAVING STAFF WHO UNDERSTAND THAT
NO TWO PEOPLE ARE THE SAME.
SO I THINK THAT AT THE Y WE DO A REALLY GOOD JOB OF RELATIONSHIP
BUILDING AND THAT IS KIND OF THE CORE OF WHAT THE Y DOES, IS WE
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH NOT ONLY ADULTS BUT KIDS.
IS TO HAVE THAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE KID AND CONNECT AND
UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS THAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR, AND MAYBE THEY
DON'T KNOW YET BUT OUR JOB AS STAFF IS TO GET THEM MOVING.
>> RIGHT, BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY IS GOING TO BE AN ATHLETE, AND
YOU WERE A COACH, AND I KNOW THAT YOU HAVE COACHED BASEBALL
AND MANY OTHER SPORTS.
NOT EVERY KID IS GOING TO CLICK WITH THE SPORT, AND SOMETIMES
THEY FEEL SORT OF LEFT OUT OF THE GAME.
RIGHT?
>> IT'S ABOUT DOING THE BEST THAT YOU CAN, AND ABOUT FEELING
INCLUSIVE.
THE Y IS SPECIAL BECAUSE OUR GOAL IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY
INSIDE SO PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE TO WORK OUT EVERYWHERE BUT
HOPEFULLY THEY COME IN AND THEY SEE FRIENDLY STAFF AND PEOPLE
THAT THEY SEE EVERY DAY AND THE SAME WITH THE KIDS.
THEY WANT TO COME HERE AND FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE A SPOT THEY FIT
IN AND THERE IS NO CUTS AT THE Y.
SO IT'S THE BEST WAY TO PUT IT, WE FIND A PLACE FOR EVERYBODY,
AND THE KIDS WILL LEAVE HERE FEELING BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES.
>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TELLING US ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
AND I CAN'T WAIT TO DO 30 MINUTES ON THE TREADMILL.
>> YES.
ANY TIME.
>> THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
